Research on Computer Aided Design and Machining of Equipment Globoidal Cam

The Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism (Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism) is composed of a space cam with a ridge and a turntable with rollers equally divided radially. In this paper, a program for reversing the law of motion of the globular indexing cam mechanism is developed, which realizes the computer-aided design and computer-aided processing of the globular indexing cam, and expounds the method of solving the motion law of the driven disc with the idea of reverse design, using UG twice the development tool UG/Open API realizes the parametric modeling of the globular indexing cam, and introduces the process of using the UG software to process the globular indexing cam surface.

General expression of pressure angle and principal curvature of globoidal indexing cam mechanism

Given the lack of general mathematical model for the parameters of the globoidal indexing cam (GIC) mechanism, a method of modeling the contour for the GIC based on the unified mathematical expression is proposed by applying the envelope theory and the matrix transformation of the homogeneous coordinates. Taking the globoidal cams with cylindrical, conical, and hyperbolic meshing turret-rollers as the research object, a unified mathematical model of profile model for the GIC is derived. On this foundation, the general analytic expression of pressure angle and principal curvature is further obtained, which provides a theoretical basis for the precise design and manufacture of the GIC and provides a mathematical basis for the fatigue strength analysis of the GIC material.

Design of the Globoidal Cam Mechanism Based on MATLAB and CATIA

Working profile of Globoidal indexing cam is a complex surface. 2D mechanical drawing is difficult to describe it clearly. With the development of computer technology, the 3D design software such as CATIA, Pro-E, Solidworks, UG/NX, the solid and surface function of them make productions more excellent. Globoidal indexing cam profile equations firstly was studied, the geometric size of the globoidal indexing cam mechanism was calculate, and then use MATLAB to calculate the globoidal indexing cam contour surface 3D coordinates of points, finally completed the three-dimensional modeling of globoidal indexing cam in CATIA.

An method was proposed to derive the formula of the overlap coefficient and the influence of main parameters on overlap coefficient were also discussed; The load distribution is deduced and the rule of contact load varying with overlap coefficient was revealed; The results indicate that the increasing overlap coefficient can extend the time of rollers engaging, reducing the contact load of globoidal indexing cam mechanism and altering the load distribution.

Stress Analysis for Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism with Steel Ball

This paper presents stress analysis for globoidal indexing cam mechanism with steel ball, and stress model of each component is established. Globoidal indexing cam mechanism with steel ball is made up of globoidal cam, indexing plate and steel ball. The mechanism can realize approximate rolling transmission. Stress is analyzed for globoidal cam, indexing plate and steel ball at dell and indexing period respectively. According to rotary transform tensor theory stress in different coordinate system is obtained to build static equilibrium equations for steel ball conveniently. Axial force, radial force and peripheral force for globoidal cam and indexing plate are reached.

Meshing Efficiency of Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism with Steel Ball

Theoretical calculation equation of meshing efficiency of globoidal indexing cam mechanism with steel ball is derived by analyzing the motion of steel ball and power loss of the mechanism. Based on the features of loads, meshing efficiency and influencing factors are analyzed. Calculation and analysis show that meshing efficiency varies with cam angle, friction coefficient and sliding velocity are major influencing factors, with the increase of them, meshing efficiency increase. Pretightening force, contact ratio factor and cam motion rule are minor influencing factors, meshing efficiency increases with the increase of pretightening force, the contact ratio factor affects meshing efficiency and the distribution of losing power, cam motion rule affects meshing efficiency by mean of it’s influence on inertia load of the mechanism, this research has guiding significance for design and manufacture of the mechanism.

Dynamic Simulation Analysis of the Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism

A procedure for the dynamic simulation analysis of the globoidal indexing cam mechanism is presented. Fist of all, the 3D model of globoidal indexing cam mechanism is established. Then, the virtual model needed by ADAMS is directly achieved by converting the 3D assembly model through the interface of SimDesigner in CATIA. In ADAMS, the tendency curves of angle velocity, acceleration of the indexing plate and contact forces between the roller and cam are made by dynamic simulation. It is very obvious to see the influence of the thickness of preload plate and assembly error on the maximum acceleration of indexing disk from the simulation result, and it will contribute to the design and assembly the globoidal indexing cam mechanism.

Because of the design and manufacture of the globoidal indexing cam mechanism is very difficult, this paper developed a globoidal indexing cam CAD/CAM system by using Pro/ Engineer’s further development module Pro/Toolkit, which can simplify the process of designing the globoidal indexing cam. The main idea is that designing cam by parameters and generating the data points of the indexing cam automatically by the computer.

Profile Surface Construction and Pressure Angle Analysis of a New Type of Globoidal Indexing Cam

This paper presents a new type of globoidal indexing cam mechanism with steel ball. The characteristic of this mechanism has double circular arc section for cam raceway. Due to this kind of cam raceway section the mechanism can realize approximate rolling transmission. According to rotary transform tensor theory profile surface equation of globoidal cam is established. Meshing equation is built through meshing theory, and profile surface equation is determined by meshing equation. Based on profile surface equation 3D geometric model for globoidal cam is established. MATLAB software is used to calculate three-dimensional coordinate points, these coordinate points are imported into Pro/E software, and finally 3D model for globoidal cam is established by three-dimensional modeling function of Pro/E software. Pressure angle equation of globoidal cam is also established. On the condition that the other parameters remain unchanged the variation law of values of pressure angle depended on cam angle and indexing plate rotary radius is obtained respectively.

3D Modeling and Simulation of a New Type of Globoidal Indexing Cam Mechanism

This paper presents 3D modeling and simulation for a new type of globoidal indexing cam mechanism with steel ball. The characteristic of this mechanism is that cam raceway section is double circular arc section, and this characteristic is helpful to realize approximate rolling transmission. Profile surface equation of globoidal cam is established according to rotary transform tensor theory and meshing theory. Coordinate points of profile surface is obtained by MATLAB software. 3D model of parts of globoidal indexing cam mechanism with steel ball is built by Pro/E software. In Pro/E software these parts are assembled, and kinematics simulation is performed. Through kinematics simulation angular displacement, angular velocity and angular acceleration of indexing plate are obtained. Finally dynamic simulation of this mechanism is performed by ADMAS software, and contact force between cam and roller is obtained.

Analysis and design of the globoidal indexing cam mechanism

We first design and analyze the contour surface of the globoidal indexing cam with the aid of computer, and then do optimum design according to the requirements of dynamics. Finally, we discuss the problem of the pressure angle of the globoidal indexing cam mechanism in detail and put forward a new concept of equivalent pressure angle.
