There are many opportunities that human skin contacts with hot surfaces during some works. The works are in a glass factory, a steel factory, a fire fighting, a construction site and so on. This paper describes the touchable time of hot surfaces for handling. The touchable time is defined as a period till it feels a hot for the first time during contact with a hot surface by a bare hand in this paprer. The touchable times were estimated by 20 to 22 subjects aged 19 to 24 years old. The plates of aluminum, steel, granite and glass of 10 mm of thickness with various surface temperature were prepared for the test. The test results are as follows; (1) An equation is proporsed to predict the touchable time with a contact coefficient (√λ c ρ) and surface temperature. (2) The touchable time for various surface temperature shows the same tendency as the EN 563 and the BSI PD 6504(discomfort). (3) The contact temperature felt a hot is 38.1℃ to 40.5℃. The contact temperature detached a hand from the surface is 40.1℃ to 42.4℃. Both temperatures show each constant temperature regardless of kind of material and surface temperature.
