Geography Teachers' Views on Harm De Blij's Book 'Why Geography Is Important'

Books written for academic purposes have a great impact on the development and progress of science branches. In addition to these, popular books written about the field of science make important effects and contributions. One of the books that affect the recognition and agenda of the science of geography is the book titled "Why Geography is Important" by the famous US geographer Harm De Blij. The data of this study, which was carried out using case study, one of the qualitative research designs, were collected through the Turkish translation written by Blij. The scope of the book on geography subjects, what it tells and its usability in geography teaching were evaluated with 50 geography teachers working in different cities of Türkiye who voluntarily participated in the study. After the volunteer participants read the book, the data of the study were collected through an online focus group interview moderated by the researchers. The data transcribed after the recording with the consent of the participants were subjected to content analysis with MAXQDA software. As a result of the research, it was determined that the physical geography sections of the book were scientifically sufficient. It was concluded that the relevant work contains good examples and definitions in terms of geography education, but the human geography sections are sometimes biased due to ideological approaches but have satisfactory information. It is recommended that geography teachers and individuals receiving geography education should read the book with the idea that it will be useful.

The Impact of Learning Behavior and Student Engagement on Learning Outcomes in Geography Subjects at Junior School Level

Geography is a science that deals with all activities and symptoms found on earth. At the junior high school level, geography is integrated into integrated social studies subjects. Geography is also an important social science to be implemented in lower secondary schools, but in its application there are also factors for its success, including learning behavior and student involvement. The objectives of this research are1) Analyzing the effect of learning behavior on student geography learning results, 2) Analyzing the effect of student engagement on geography learning results, and 3) Analyzing the effect of learning behavior and student engagement on geography learning outcomes. This research used quantitative method. The population in this study were students from grade 7 to grade 9 at SMP Negeri 2 Kemalang totaling 584 students. The sample in this study consisted of 237 students. SThe sampling was conducted using the stratified random sampling technique. Data were obtained using observation, documentation, and questiinnaires. The data analysis techniques used in this study include descriptive statistic, simple correlation tests, and multiple correlation analysis. The result shiwed that 1) students have a level of learning behavior in the high category, 2) student learning engagement in geography subjects categorized into high category, and 3) There is no significant influence of learning behavior and student engagement on geography learning success. It can be observed that the r value is smaller than the r tabke value 0.059 0.134) and the significance value is above 0,05 (0.416 0.05).

Development of E-Earning Learning Media Based on the Kahoot Application in Geography Subjects

Learning media is a very important component of learning resources in the learning process. This research aims to develop e-learning media based on the Kahoot application in geography subjects regarding rural and urban spatial interactions. This research uses the ADDIE development research method which consists of five stages, namely the analysis stage, the design stage, the development stage, the implementation stage, and the evaluation stage. The research results showed that the media expert validation score was 85%, the material expert validation score was 83%, the teacher validation score was 85%, and the average student response score was 97.81%. The scores resulting from validation by experts and the student response scores show that the Kahoot-based Elearning learning media in the geography subject on topic of Village and City Spatial Interaction is categorized as very valid and suitable for use in the learning process.

Persepsi Bentuk Penugasan Mata Pelajaran Geografi dalam Penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka

Education reflects society's ability to produce competent individuals who contribute positively. As times evolve, the education system undergoes transformation to meet modern era demands. Technological and informational advancements influence students' knowledge, skills, and social aspects in completing tasks, encouraging them to be more adaptive. Indonesia has implemented various curricula, with the Merdeka Curriculum being the latest. This curriculum is expected to deepen conceptual understanding and strengthen student competencies in the dynamic global era. This study analyzes the perceptions of 10th-grade public high school students in Tapos District, Depok, regarding geography subject assignment forms in the Merdeka Curriculum. Using a quantitative descriptive approach with a questionnaire as the main instrument, this study finds that the majority of students (64%) have a good perception of these assignment forms. The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum shows variations in assignment forms, including print-based technology, audio-visual, computer, and their combinations. In conclusion, students have a positive understanding and view of various geography assignment forms in the Merdeka Curriculum.

EFFECT OF AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS IN TEACHING AND LEARNING AND STUDENT ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN GEOGRAPHY SUBJECT IN DAY SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN RWANDA

The research investigated the influence of audio-visual aids in teaching and learning on students academic performance in geography subjects: a case study of public secondary schools in the Gasabo area of Rwanda.This study is important to the government of Rwanda and other educational stakeholdershe total population of respondents is equal to 388, and it was composed of 165 geography teachers who were sampled as 84 teachers, 23 headteachers, and 200 students who were sampled as 101 respondents. To triangulate the data, primary sources were acquired utilizing questionnaires, interviews, and observation methods. To generate a sample population from the respondents, this study employed purposive, stratified, and simple random sampling methods. In data gathering and analysis, the study used both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in tandem. Content analysis aided qualitative data analysis, while quantitative data was presented using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlational and regression analysis) in the statistical package for social sciences. The finding indicates that there was relationship between audio-visual aids in teaching and learning and students academic performance in geography the findings suggest that enhancing physical facilities can improve student outcomes and were positively and statistically correlated since most of their level of significance was more than 0.05 in association with girls retention rates in public secondary schools in Gasabo District, Rwanda.

Development of Virtual Geography Laboratory to Improve Cognitive Learning Outcomes and Spatial Capabilities Social Sciences Education

This project aims to develop a website that functions as a virtual laboratory for studying geography topics that is suitable for use, as well as testing its effectiveness on cognitive learning outcomes and spatial abilities. The research uses the Borg and Gall development model, which is then summarized and divided into three main activities: introduction, development, and testing. Subject selection was based on the cluster random sampling technique. The subjects consisted of Class Learning outcome data was collected using questionnaires, interviews, pretests and posttest, analyzed using descriptive statistical tests and Mancova inferential statistics. Research Results: 1) the development of a geographic virtual laboratory is suitable for use according to material experts and received the "very good" category, while according to media experts it received the "good" category; 2) students gave a strong response to the implementation of the virtual geography laboratory; 3) there is a significant difference between initial abilities and cognitive learning outcomes and spatial abilities; and 4) there are no significant differences between two schools that implement virtual geography laboratories with cognitive learning outcomes and spatial abilities.

The Influence of Implementing the Project Based Learning Model on Students’ Geography Learning Motivation at SMA N 1 Tanjung Mutiara Agam Regency

This research is motivated by the problem of low motivation to study geography, no concentration and low activity during learning, there is no student feedback when learning takes place. The purpose of this study was to find out and analyze data that had the effect of applying the Project Based Learning learning model on increasing students' motivation to learn Geography at SMA N 1 Tanjung Mutiara, Agam Regency. The type of research used was a quasi-experimental research, the research design used was a non-equivalent Control Group Design. The population of all class X students of SMA N 1 Tanjung Mutiara, Agam Regency who were registered in the 2022/2023 school year consisted of 6 classes and the sampling in this study was conducted by random sampling, the instruments in this study were warm and the data analysis techniques were descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. Research results: Is there an effect of applying the Project Based Learning learning model to increasing students' motivation to learn Geography at SMA N 1 Tanjung Mutiara, Agam Regency, research. Based on the descriptive analysis of the experimental class (Project based learning) which obtained a percentage value of 84% in the High category while students in the control class (Conventional) obtained a percentage value of 78% with High. Based on the independent sample t-test regarding student questionnaire answers, it can be concluded that the sig value is 0.002 < 0.05 which states that the coefficient value is significant because tcount > ttable = 3.298 > ttable 1.670, thus it can be interpreted that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. so, there is an influence of the project based learning learning model on student learning motivation in the subject of Geography at SMA N 1 Tanjung Mutiara, Agam Regency.

Eval_uasi Penerapan Pembelajaran Berdiferensiasi pada Mata Pelajaran Geografi Kurikulum Merdeka di SMAN 2 Gunung Talang Kabupaten Solok

The purpose of this research is 1) To find out how the implementation of differentiated learning at SMAN 2 Gunung Talang Solok Regency. 2) To find out the obstacles experienced by teachers in the Independent Curriculum Geography subject in class X SMAN 2 Gunung Talang Solok Regency. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research. The informants in this study were the principal, teachers and students of class X phase E. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques in this study used the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display and verification. The results of this study concluded that 1) The application of differentiated learning is very effective to be applied in the classroom as evidenced by the increased interest in learning and student learning outcomes and all stages in the application of differentiated learning from the pre-implementation, implementation and eval_uation stages have gone well and all aspects of differentiated learning have been implemented well by geography teachers. But in its implementation there are still some things that need to be maximized again. 2) The problems encountered such as the lack of time in its implementation because each school has allocated time for each teacher and their respective subjects. So that teachers do not have enough time in implementing differentiated learning and limited resources because differentiated learning is still new in its application arises because of the independent curriculum.

Pengaruh Efikasi Diri Akademik terhadap Hasil Belajar Geografi Fase F SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan

The purpose of this study was to analyze whether there is a positive and significant influence of academic self-efficacy on the learning outcomes of geography phase F of SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti, Pesisir Selatan Regency. The type of research used is quantitative research with a correlational approach. The location of the study was at SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti, Pesisir Selatan Regency. The research period was April 22 to May 22. The population in this study were students of phase F who taught geography subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti, Pesisir Selatan Regency. The number of samples was 97 people using the total sampling technique. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, surveys, and documentation records. The data analysis procedure technique in this study used validity tests, reliability tests, descriptive statistical analysis, normality tests, linearity tests and hypothesis tests. The results of this study concluded that 1) There is a significant relationship between academic self-efficacy and student learning outcomses at phase F of SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti, Pesisir Selatan Regency as indicated by a significant correlation level value of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. This means that the academic self-efficacy variable has an effect on the learning outcome variable. 2) The academic self-efficacy of students in phase F of SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti Pesisir Selatan as a whole is in the low classification, which can be seen from the pie chart and the academic self- efficacy percentage table. 3) The learning outcomes of students in phase F of SMA Negeri 1 Linggo Sari Baganti as a whole are in the context of the less group, based on the calculation of the pie chart and the Learning Outcome Criteria (KKTP) table set by the school.

Pengaruh Aplikasi TikTok terhadap Minat Belajar Siswa Geografi pada Kelas XI SMA Muhammadiyah 09 Kualuh Hulu Kabupaten Labuhan Batu Utara

The purpose of this study is to find out whether the TikTok application affects students' interest in learning geography subjects at SMA Muhammadiyah 09 Kualuh Hulu, North LabuhanBaatu Regency. This study uses quantitative research on the technique used, namely purposive sampling. This research has 2 classes as a sample. The number of respondents was 72 students. It is divided into an experimental class and a control class. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, questionnaires, pretest posttest questions and documentation. The data analysis techniques in this study used validity tests, reliability tests, descriptive statistical analysis, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The results obtained are in accordance with the researcher's calculations, there is an influence of the TikTok application on the learning interest of students at SMA Muhammadiyah 09 Kualuh Hulu, LabuhanBatu Utara Regency, North Sumatra province, This can be seen from the results of the research on the value of students' learning interest scores in experimental classes that use the TikTok application as a learning medium is higher than in the control class using the conventional method (lecture). In addition, judging from the significance value of 0.000 is less than 0.05 thus H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, the hypothesis states that social media has an effect on students' interest in learning.

Diasporas and their organisations, which traditionally aimed to serve their interest in the homeland and abroad, have long been studied under several social science disciplines, such as anthropology, sociology, political science, and geography. At the beginning of the 2000s, for instance, human and political geographers started to focus on diaspora realizing that it is a geographical concept, which addresses various geographical themes such as dispersion, boundaries, territory (as homeland), and identity. The “geographical turn” contributed to the concept theoretically, and also to transnationalism and migration studies empirically by which cases were reconsidered through the lens of geographical concepts, such as space, place, and time. Similar to geographers’ arguments, diaspora organisations (DO) -as a distinct form of collectivity- and their activities are very relevant to what we study in International Relations (IR), especially when it comes to exploring DOs’ role that transcends state borders in development, human rights, conflict, and peace. In that regard, attempts to introduce novel contributions from various disciplines have the potential to significantly enhance our comprehension of the theory of diaspora and its associated organizations.

Curriculum Implementation Index for Geography Learning in East Java, Indonesia

Curriculum changes often occur in Indonesia. However, studies regarding the gap between curriculum planning and implementation are still very limited. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the Curriculum Implementation Index for Geography Learning in East Java. In this study, we used a curriculum implementation index for geography subjects. This study used purposive sampling with several considerations, such as the region distribution of geography teachers and school accreditation. The number of respondents is determined by selecting the person directly related to geography learning and its relation to curriculum implementation. We observed 30 geography teachers to determine curriculum implementation. The curriculum implementation index was used to evaluate consistency between curriculum planning and implementation, as indicated by teachers’ activities and several concepts in geography learning. The results show that the readiness of teachers to implement the curriculum in the laboratory, literature, and media aspects is in the low category. This is indicated by a laboratory index of 1.03, a literature index of 1.58, and a media index of 1.87. This low index means that geography learning does not meet the 2013 curriculum standards, especially in physical geography material, which needs laboratories and media to explain concrete concepts in geography learning. Implementing the 2013 curriculum in geography learning has not met the characteristics of the concrete idea of geography learning, which requires visualization for physical and environmental aspects.Keywords: Curriculum Implementation; Geography Learning; Index; East Java

Analysis of Multiple Choice HOTS Test Questions on the Final Semester Assessment

Assessment is essential in the education system to monitor educational development and make appropriate instructional decisions. This study aims to analyze the quality of multiple choice questions based on high-level thinking skills (HOTS) in the Geography subject using Anates Windows Version 4.0.9 software. This evaluative research involves analysis of final semester exam questions for class X Geography at SMA Islam Al Azhar 14 Semarang. Data consisting of questions, answer keys and exam results were collected from 32 students. The analysis was carried out descriptively and quantitatively to assess the level of difficulty, discriminating power, reliability, effectiveness of distractors, and validity of the questions. The analysis results show that the difficulty level of most of the questions is in the medium category (50%). The discriminating power is mostly good, although several questions are wrong or bad. Most of the distractors worked well, but some questions had ineffective distractors. Regarding validity, 17 questions were valid, while 11 questions were invalid. The reliability of the test is in the high category, with a reliability coefficient of 0.71. Anates Windows Version 4.0.9 software effectively analysed the quality of HOTS questions. These findings indicate that although most of the questions are of good quality, some require revision to increase their validity and effectiveness. This research emphasizes the importance of using technology in educational assessment to ensure the quality and fairness of exam questions. Development of Interactive Learning Media Based on Problem-Based Learning: Improving Geography Learning Outcomes

The aim of this research is to produce interactive learning media based on a problem-based learning model that is feasible, practical, and effective in improving student learning outcomes in geography subjects. The ADDIE development model was the type of research used. The results of the research show: the material validation test obtained a score of 98% in the very feasible category, the media validation test obtained a score of 94% in the very feasible category, the design validation test obtained a score of 100% in the very feasible category, the individual and small group trials obtained a score of 86% in the very feasible category. , and the field trial obtained a score of 91% in the very worthy category, with an overall average result from the respondent category of 93%. The use of PBL-based interactive learning media in the experimental class obtained an average learning outcome of 84.17, while in the control class, which used video media and printed books, it obtained an average learning outcome of 79.50. The research data was declared normal and homogeneous. The results of the independent samples t test show tcount = 2.38 and ttable = 2.00 with a significance level of α = 0.05, so tcount > ttable. It can be interpreted that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means that the PBL-based interactive learning media product developed is effective. Furthermore, based on the results of the N-Gain calculation, a score of 60.78% was obtained, so this PBL-based interactive learning medium is classified as "quite effective" in the "medium" category

Earth Science System In The Community Learning Model is a model that is oriented towards problems that occur in the earth that can be solved within the scope of the community (society). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Earth Science Community (EarthComm) learning model i n geography subjects on students' spatial thinking skills at SMA Negeri 2 Kota Kupang. The type of research used is quantitative research, the method used is quasi-experimental with the form of research design is Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this study is all students of class XI IPS with sampling techniques using saturated sampling techniques. The results of this study indicate that the average value of the experimental class is higher than the control class. It is known that the average value of the control class is 69.57 and the experimental class is 75.86 so that there is a difference between the two. Based on the results of data analysis of the Independent Sample T-Test test, there is an effect of the Earth Science System in the Community (EarthComm) learning model in geography subjects on students' spatial thinking skills compared to the control class using the conventional model. The EarthComm learning model is recommended to be used as a variation of teacher learning in the application of the learning model. This model can also be develo ped by other researchers by adding moderator variables or other media.

Improving Student Learning Outcomes by using Blog Media in Geography Subjects

Purpose of the study: This research aims to improve student learning outcomes by using blog media. The background of this research is that learning is still teacher-centered, more teachers only use the lecture method, and do not use learning media. Students are less enthusiastic when studying geography, they often fall asleep in class. This causes low student learning outcomes, so the method used to overcome this problem is to use blog media. Methodology: The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research with a sample of 34 class XI high school students. The instruments used were lesson plans, observation sheets, interview sheets and geography learning results tests. This research was conducted at Senior High School Nusantara. Main Findings: Theresearch results showed that student learning activities experienced significant changes and the average N-Gainin cycle I was 0.33 and increased to 0.52 in cycle II. Based on these results, it can be proven that the use of blog media is effective in improving geography learning outcomes Novelty/Originality of this study:In an effort to enrich the learning process, this research allows the use of blog media as an innovative tool. By integrating information and communication technology through blogs, it is hoped that it can create a more dynamic and interactive learning environment. The focus of this research is not only on technological aspects, but also on the impact of using blog media on students understanding and involvement in understanding geographical concepts.

Implementasi Penggunaan Media Ajar Berbasis Mixed-Media Pada Mata Pelajaran Geografi Di Kelas XI-H MAN 2 Blitar

Learning media is a medium used to convey information in the learning process in the educational sphere, so that effective communication between teachers and students will be formed.. The learning media used by teachers in Geography subjects is mixed-media based in the form of PowerPoint and YouTube. The research was carried out at MAN 2 Blitar school because it is the only superior madrasa in Wlingi district.. The problems that researchers found were based on pre-research results, students' lack of understanding of the material presented and lack of learning outcomes. There are several problem formulations based on the results of researcher observations, namely: 1) How is the use of mixed-media based teaching media in Geography subjects in class XI-H MAN 2 Blitar?, 2) What are the obstacles and challenges in using mixed-media based teaching media in Geography subject in class XI-H MAN 2 Blitar?, 3) What is the impact of using mixed-media based teaching media on Geography subjects in class This research uses qualitative research with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques use interviews, observation and documentation. The results obtained by researchers are that mixed media is often used to support success in the learning process, so teachers must increase creativity to apply interesting learning media. Sometimes the internet connection network becomes an obstacle to the learning process. Even though mixed media is often used, there are still students who show boredom in learning.

IMPLEMENTASI NILAI-NILAI KARAKTER DALAM PEMBELAJARAN GEOGRAFI PADA KELAS X D MAN 1 PROBOLINGGO

This research aims to determine character values in geography subjects at MAN 1 Probolinggo. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of observation and documentation. The research sample using purposive sampling was class X D MAN 1 Probolinggo. Testing the validity of the data used in this research is the source triangulation technique. Analysis of the data obtained was carried out in several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification/drawing conclusions. The research results show that character values in geography subjects are integrated into the Teaching and Learning Activities (KBM) process with a learning method approach that supports the strengthening of interactive and participatory character education, or by directly observing the characters in the school environment. The application of character values to students seems to have experienced positive changes and significant improvements as a reflection of the results of the application of character values which are reflected in students who are moral, positive and responsible.

Tingkatkan Aktivitas Belajar Geografi: Implementasi Model Project- Based Learning dengan Media Aplikasi Canva di Kelas X SMA N 1 Seririt

Student activities in the learning process are not only limited to listening and taking notes. The more activities students do during learning, the quality of the learning process will increase. This research aims to examine the impact of the Project-Based Learning model with the support of the Canva application on student learning activities in geography subjects. The research subjects consisted of five classes The research design used was One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Data collection was carried out through observation and documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and quantitatively, with hypothesis testing using the T-test and simple linear regression test. The research results show that there is a positive and significant influence from implementing the Project-Based Learning model with the support of the Canva application on student learning activities in geography subjects.
