Research hotspots, trends and opportunities on the metaverse in health education: a bibliometric analysis

PurposeThe metaverse offers great potential for creating a new educational environment with unique experiences. Currently, it has been integrated into many stages of education, including classroom study aids, clinical skill interaction and image training simulators, thanks to a new generation of Internet applications. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive systematic review using bibliometric analysis on the metaverse in health education and analyze the trends and patterns of research output within the field.Design/methodology/approachThe paper conducts bibliometric analysis and follows the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to ensure a rigorous and transparent review process. Specifically, this article identifies research questions, develops a data-collection strategy and establishes a screening approach that includes determining relevant keywords and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria.FindingsA bibliometric analysis is conducted comprising 231 studies from 145 scientific journals to assess the trends, patterns and collaboration networks in research on the use of metaverse technology in health education. This paper provides insights into the research themes, publication trends and countries leading in this field, which can guide future research in this field.Originality/valueThe use of metaverse technology in health education has gained momentum in recent years. Despite this interest, comprehensive studies to review and analyze the existing literature on this topic systematically are lacking. In response, this paper provides a systematic review that explores the potential role of the metaverse in health education. By considering the current research, key trends, research hotspots and opportunities for future investigations are identified. The findings not only shed light on the current state of research but also offer guidance for advancing this exciting field.

Design and Research of New Network Address Coding

Abstract To solve a series of problems caused by address space and information security of contemporary Internet, Chinese scientists have proposed a new generation of network architecture. Since the release of IPv4 RFC791 in 1981, it has become the first widely used Internet of things protocol due to its characteristics of easy implementation and good operability. It constitutes the basic protocol of current Internet technology. However, due to the defects in address classification, address resources are largely wasted. As the scale of the Internet continues to grow, especially the number of addresses used to surge, the address shortage has limited the Internet further development. IPv6 has solved the problem of insufficient IPv4 addresses to some extent, but it is not widely for more than 20 years used because it integrates the information of physical layer and application layer, which confuses the network layer and brings many security risks. Based on the study of IPv4 and IPv6, this paper proposes a new generation network architecture, which is designed from the aspects of addressing model, address writing, address prefix writing and address type. The address structure is compatible with IPv4 and IPv6, so that the previous design results can be retained, fundamentally solve the space address and information security issues, and provide a new solution for the next generation of Internet applications and research.

Don't Be Afraid to Explore Web 2.0

WEB is a hot topic. The term refers to the next generation of Internet applications that allow (even encourage) the average Internet user to collaborate and share information online. It signals a major change in Internet use, since in the computer world 2.0 indicates a major upgrade to an original program. Web sites allow anyone to contribute content and to participate with other users in editing and even combining or remixing existing content with other material to repurpose it for additional uses. Thus content on the Internet is no longer static; it is changing and dynamic. A distinguishing Web feature is the increasing significance of the individual user, as anybody (even a fifth-grader) can create and upload text, as well as audio and video, to the Internet. Another characteristic is the reliance on user participation, often referred to as the wisdom of the crowd and the architecture of participation. Web has an inherent trust in people and what they can contribute when working together toward a common goal for the greater good. If Web (even though we did not know it was 1.0 at the time) was a read-only medium, today's Web is read/write. The Internet's first era of mass use required users with programming skills to contribute (upload) material to the Internet. Early Internet users found that material in a manner similar to going to the library to find and take home a book. In contrast, Web users still go to the library (i.e., the Internet), but instead of figuratively just taking home a book to read, they now enjoy other possible uses, including contributing comments, changing the contents, and having others simultaneously read the material in real time. So perhaps you are thinking that all of this is very interesting, but you're wondering, What effect can Web have on me and how I do my job? Maybe your favorite FM radio station is WII-FM (What's In It For Me?). Read what educators are saying. Kim Estes, a secondary instructional technology specialist in the Burleson (Texas) Independent School District, says Web is shifting the focus from individualized work to collaborative efforts, from individual learning to collective knowledge, from passive reception to active creation. Kathy Schrock, a technology administrator in the Nauset Public Schools in Orleans, Massachusetts, and keeper of the Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators website, relates that the ability to add to the body of knowledge about a topic, offer additional information, or state an opinion via public commenting on a blog or social networking site allows students to understand the importance of producing information for an authentic audience. Several thousand Web applications have become available in the last few years. These applications are generally free to individuals. One suite of online applications that promotes creating, sharing, and collaborating is Zoho (http://zoho.com), which offers a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, and note taker, among other services. Another increasingly popular and diverse online productivity and collaboration application is Google Docs (http://docs.google.com), which requires a free Google account. Google is increasingly becoming more than just a search engine. Google Docs is a suite of applications that allow you to import existing documents or create new documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. As with other Web applications, it is Web-based so you can create, edit, and store your material online. Using online applications instead of programs installed on your desktop or laptop computer is a hallmark of Web applications, so much so that it has acquired its own name: cloud computing. P2P/Grid-based overlay architecture to support VoIP services in large-scale IP networks

Communication services such as, Voice over IP (VoIP), over the Internet have gained much attention in recent years, as next generation Internet applications are requiring the integration of voice and data in the single IP infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a Peer-to-Peer (P2P)/Grid-based architecture to efficiently provide VoIP services in large-scale IP networks. Particularly, our technologies include: (1) a multi-overlay architecture that leverages the resources/capabilities of individual VoIP components. (2) We design and develop several models and protocols for realizing VoIP services in our architecture. We conduct extensive performance evaluations on different schemes proposed. The evaluation results show that the load-aware weight-based call routing scheme can achieve much better performance than static selection schemes in terms of average call routing delay. The experimental results also demonstrate that the P2P + Hierarchy model for conferencing applications can achieve better performance than all other models in terms of minimizing the network bandwidth overhead.

XML: data's universal language

You have probably heard a lot lately about Extensible Markup Language (XML): a new tag based language for describing data. Trade journals and industry magazines devote cover pages to it, and application vendors build in support for it and promote its virtues. The most enthusiastic supporters claim XML will open the door for the next generation of Internet applications. But will XML live up to all the hype? XML is fast becoming the key language for an increasing number of new applications. It is poised to fundamentally alter the way we deliver and use information and to enable the creation of new, powerful applications. It has the potential to shape the future of the Web, among other things. But XML is still a work in progress. Designers and developers are adding new features to it and developing new technologies around it.

New protocols are a response to the growing variety and volume of traffic on the Internet and intranets. The developers of IPv6 specifically refer to supporting a future in which low-power, handheld devices may tap into the Internet, as may refrigerators, soda machines, and electric meters. They acknowledge that any protocol developed will be viable only if it remains compatible with current standards and plans for incremental change-few companies can afford to change their systems all at once. Protocols such as IPv6, RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol), and RTP (Real-Time Transport Protocol) are attempting to take the Internet into the future while meeting the needs of users today.
