The tibial tubercle-to-trochlear groove distance changes in standing weight-bearing condition: An upright weight-bearing computed tomography analysis

BackgroundThe tibial tubercle-to-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance and Insall-Salvati (I/S) ratio are widely used to determine the need for distal realignment in conjunction with medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction in patients with recurrent patellar dislocation. A TT-TG distance >20 mm and an I/S ratio >1.3 are significant anatomical risk factors for patellar instability. However, these parameters have traditionally been measured using non-weight-bearing (NWB) imaging modalities. As patellar dislocation occurs during weight-bearing actions, these two parameters should be measured under weight-bearing conditions. Thus, this study aimed to measure the TT-TG distance and I/S ratio using upright full-weight-bearing (FWB) computed tomography (CT) scans and compare the data with NWB CT scans. MethodsThis study included 49 knee joints of 26 healthy volunteers. CT images were obtained under both FWB and NWB standing conditions using a 320-detector row upright CT scanner. TT-TGs in the axial plane and I/S ratios in the sagittal plane were measured and compared. ResultsThe average FWB TT-TG distance was 20.3 ± 3.9 mm, whereas the average NWB TT-TG distance was 12.3 ± 4.7 mm. The TT-TG level was significantly higher in the FWB condition than that in the NWB condition (P < 0.001). The I/S ratios were comparable between the FWB and NWB conditions (P = 0.29). ConclusionsThe TT-TG distance in the standing weight-bearing condition was larger than the conventional TT-TG distance and surpassed the historical cutoff value of TT-TG, which may affect the indication of additional distal realignment in MPFL reconstruction for patellar instability.

Coverage maps demonstrate 3D Chopart joint subluxation in weightbearing CT of progressive collapsing foot deformity

A key element of the peritalar subluxation (PTS) seen in progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD) occurs through the transverse tarsal joint complex. However, the normal and pathological relations of these joints are not well understood. The objective of this study to compare Chopart articular coverages between PCFD patients and controls using weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT). In this retrospective case control study, 20 patients with PCFD and 20 matched controls were evaluated. Distance and coverage mapping techniques were used to evaluate the talonavicular and calcaneocuboid interfaces. Principal axes were used to divide the talar head into 6 regions (medial/central/lateral and plantar/dorsal) and the calcaneocuboid interface into 4 regions. Repeated selections were performed to evaluate reliability of joint interface identification. Surface selections had high reliability with an ICC > 0.99. Talar head coverage decreases in plantarmedial and dorsalmedial (− 79%, p = 0.003 and − 77%, p = 0.00004) regions were seen with corresponding increases in plantarlateral and dorsolateral regions (30%, p = 0.0003 and 21%, p = 0.002) in PCFD. Calcaneocuboid coverage decreased in plantar and medial regions (− 12%, p = 0.006 and − 9%, p = 0.037) and increased in the lateral region (13%, p = 0.002). Significant subluxation occurs across the medial regions of the talar head and the plantar medial regions of the calcaneocuboid joint. Coverage and distance mapping provide a baseline for understanding Chopart joint changes in PCFD under full weightbearing conditions.

Foot radiographic angle variation as a function of weightbearing magnitude.

Weightbearing radiographs are widely used to investigate foot disorders. However, it is unclear how imaging during partial weightbearing affects foot alignment measurements. This study aimed to determine a partial weightbearing threshold that yields consistent measurements of various radiographic angles. Eighteen normal fresh-frozen cadaveric foot specimens were dissected and prepared for mechanical testing using a custom-designed, computed tomography-compatible loading frame. Specimens were placed in a neutral ankle position and scanned in five axial loading conditions (0%, 12.5%, 25%, 37.5%, and 50% bodyweight) using weightbearing computed tomography. (Note 50% bodyweight per foot represents full bodyweight in quiet stance.)The lateral first talometatarsal and calcaneal pitch angles were measured on lateral radiographic projections, and the hallux valgus angle and first-second, fourth-fifth, and first-fifth intermetatarsal angles were measured on axial projection images. The lateral first talometatarsal angle decreased significantly with increased bodyweight loading (p < 0.01). Mean significant decreases in the lateral first talometatarsal angle compared to 0% were 6.6° for 12.5%, 7.6° for 25%, 8.8° for 37.5%, and 10.0° for 50% bodyweight loading; 12.5% to 50% was also significant. There was no significant differences between other loading condition pairings or with increased axial load at other angles. The medial longitudinal arch flattened with increasing axial load, resulting in a decreased lateral first talometatarsal angle. However, this radiographic parameter did not change between the 25% and 50% bodyweight conditions, indicating that partial weightbearing imaging (between 12.5% and 25% bodyweight) might be enough to reproduce the sagittal foot alignments observed under full weightbearing conditions in normal feet.

The Effects of a Medial Heel Wedge on the Weight-Bearing Response of Hindfoot Valgus and the Total Weight-Bearing Responses of the Navicular and Talus Bones

OBJECTIVES Medial heel wedges are commonly prescribed to manage the weight-bearing response of hindfoot valgus and the total weight-bearing responses of the navicular and talus bones. Previous studies have reported that a medial heel wedge is effective in the management of musculoskeletal injuries. However, it remains unclear the effect of a medial heel wedge on the weight-bearing responses of footarch bones in vivo. To clarify the effects of a medial heel wedge on the weight-bearing response of hindfoot valgus and the total weight-bearing responses of the navicular and talus bones is necessary to understand how best to treat musculoskeletal injuries clinically. The purpose of our study was to clarify the effects of a medial heel wedge on the weight-bearing response of hindfoot valgus and the total weight-bearing responses of the navicular and talus bones.METHODS Twenty-five healthy males were analyzed. We obtained MRI scanning of the right foot under non-loading (NL) and full weight-bearing (FW) conditions. Participants wore two insole types, a flat insole and a medial heel wedge. To evaluate the weight-bearing response in hindfoot valgus, the hindfoot alignment view (HAV) was measured. We also measured navicular and talus bone positions and calculated the total positional changes of the navicular and talus bones (ΔTPCN, ΔTPCT) from the vertical and medial displacements using the Pythagorean theorem.RESULTS Significant interactions were observed with the HAV. Under both NL and FW conditions, the HAV was smaller on the medial heel wedge than on the flat insole. In addition, the ΔTPCN was significantly smaller on the medial heel wedge than on the flat insole. However, no significant differences were observed for ΔTPCT.CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that use of a medial heel wedge decreases hindfoot valgus values under both NL and FW conditions and stabilizes the total weight-bearing response of the navicular bone.

Asymmetric Lambda Sign on Axial Weightbearing CT Scans of the Foot: An Indicator to Aid in the Diagnosis of Subtle Lisfranc Instability?

Category:Trauma; Midfoot/ForefootIntroduction/Purpose:Subtle Lisfranc instability, a spectrum of conditions resulting from trauma of individual structures within the Lisfranc ligamentous complex (LLC) including the dorsal- (DLL), interosseous- (ILL), and plantar Lisfranc ligaments (PLL) remain challenging to effectively diagnose. The current standard to asses these injuries is through bilateral weightbearing radiography. However, weight bearing computed tomography (WBCT), which provides a clearer visualization of osseous structures, joint spaces, and instability could also be utilized for evaluation. This study aims to define and report the occurrence rate of an ‘asymmetric lambda sign’ observed on axial WBCT imaging secondary to simulated purely ligamentous Lisfranc injuries of various severities subjected to increasing magnitudes of weightbearing conditions. It is hypothesized that this sign will be a reliable aid in detecting subtle Lisfranc instability, clinically.Methods:The asymmetric lambda sign was assessed on 24 match-paired cadaveric legs (mean age, 46.0 +- 14.8 years; mean weight, 80.2 +- 17.4 kg; mean body mass index, 25.3 +- 4.2 kg/m2). Dissection groups were described as follows: control intact LLC (group 1), dissection of the DLL (group 2), dissection of the DLL and ILL (group 3), dissection of the DLL, ILL, and PLL (group 4). After each dissection, CT scans were acquired in non- (NWB, 0 kg), partial- (PWB, 40 kgs), and full-weightbearing (FWB, 80 kgs) conditions. In a standardized axial view, the lambda sign was appreciated by visualizing the joint spaces between the medial cuneiform and the second metatarsal base (C1-M2), the medial and middle cuneiform (C1-C2), and the second metatarsal base and middle cuneiform (M2-C2). The asymmetric lambda sign was defined by a widening of the C1-M2 joint space relative to the C1-C2 or M2-C2 joint space (Fig).Results:The asymmetric lambda sign was observed in 25.6% (221/864) of all studies. This sign was not found in any intact specimens regardless of the weightbearing status. In group 2, this sign was observed in 4.2% of NWB, 15.3% of PWB, and 16.7% of FWB conditions. With the DLL and ILL dissected, simulating a more developed subtle LLC injury (group 3), this sign was observed in 15.3%, 27.8%, and 38.9% in NWB, PWB and FWB conditions, respectively. Additionally, the fully dissected specimens (group 4), demonstrated this specific sign in 33.3%, 72.2%, and 83.3% in NWB, PWB, and FWB conditions, respectively. The inter- and intra- observer reliability was calculated to a kappa value of .843 and .912.Conclusion:An asymmetric lambda sign viewed through axial WBCT imaging is a reliable indicator in the diagnosis of a complete Lisfranc ligamentous injury with secondary joint instability in partial and full weightbearing conditions as demonstrated using a cadaveric model. Clinically, this simple sign can be utilized as an aid to accurately evaluate and diagnose patients presenting with subtle Lisfranc instability.

Comparison of two reinforcement rings for primary total hip arthroplasty addressing displaced acetabular fractures: a biomechanical analysis

IntroductionAim of this study was to biomechanically compare two different acetabular cup fixation constructs in terms of fracture fixation for displaced acetabular fractures involving the anterior column with hemitransverse fracture under partial and full weight-bearing conditions.MethodsTwo different reinforcement rings designed as cages for primary THA were biomechanically tested in terms of managing a complex acetabular fracture. Single-leg stance cyclic loading was performed to assess fracture gap movement and fragment rotation. Twelve hemi pelvis Sawbones were divided into two groups: primary THA with acetabulum roof reinforcement plate (ARRP) (n = 6) and primary THA with Burch–Schneider reinforcement cage (BSRC) (n = 6).ResultsDuring loading under partial weight-bearing (250 N) fracture gap movement tended to be larger in the BSRC group as compared to the ARRP group. Under full weight-bearing conditions, the ARRP showed 60% significantly less motion (p = 0.035) of the os ilium to os ischii gap compared to BSRC. Fracture gap movements between the os ilium and spina iliaca fragments were significantly reduced by 76% (p = 0.048) for ARRP in contrast to BSRC. The ARRP group also demonstrated significantly less movement in the fracture gaps os ischii to quadrilateral plate (62% reduction, p = 0.009) and quadrilateral plate to spina iliaca (87% reduction, p < 0.001). Significantly less rotational movement of the quadrilateral plate to the os ilium was exhibited by the ARRP group (p = 0.015).ConclusionsThe presented acetabulum roof-reinforcement plate (ARRP) provides stable conditions at the acetabular component with adequate stabilization of a displaced acetabular fracture.

Neutral or Natural? Functional Impact of the Coronal Alignment in Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a very successful procedure. The alignment in TKA has been identified as being of importance to prevent early implant failure and patient dissatisfaction. Our hypothesis was that patients with a preoperative varus deformation remaining in a slight varus alignment as their natural alignment after TKA will have superior clinical results compared with patients who are restored in neutral alignment. A total of 115 patients were corrected from varus to neutral (varus-neutral) and in 33 patients a preoperative varus alignment was kept in varus (varus). Standardized preoperative and postoperative full-length hip-knee-ankle radiographs under full weight-bearing conditions were performed in all patients. The patients' knees were categorized preoperatively and postoperatively based on the angle between mechanical femoral axis and mechanical tibial axis. Knees with alignment between ± 3 degrees were categorized as neutrally aligned, whereas alignment within ≤ -3 degrees was categorized as varus. The Knee Injury Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and Oxford Knee Score were determined retrospectively. The varus group scored significantly better in total KOOS (p < 0.05) compared with the varus-neutral group. Also, a trend was visible in the Oxford Knee Score but this was not significant (p > 0.05). This trend was even more evident in varus knees which were slightly undercorrected. The results support the assumption that leaving a residual varus alignment after TKA leads to better functional outcomes in TKA for patients with preoperative varus osteoarthritis.

Weight-bearing three-dimensional computed tomography analysis of the forefoot in patients with flatfoot deformity.

The recent classifications for posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) stage II are based on forefoot deformity, but there is still no consensus regarding a detailed explanation of the clinical condition. The purposes of this study were to clarify the clinical condition of flatfoot deformity using three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) imaging under loading on both healthy and flat feet and to compare 3D movement of the forefoot in response to load. Ten volunteers and 10 PTTD stage II patients with symptomatic flatfoot deformity were examined. CT scans of 20 healthy and 20 flat feet were performed under non-loading and full weight-bearing conditions. Images of the tibia and foot arch bones (talus, calcaneus, navicular, and first and fifth metatarsal bones) were reconstructed into 3D models. Rotations of individual tarsal bone or metatarsal bone were described by the Eulerian angles. Compared with healthy feet, flat feet experienced plantarflexion of the fifth metatarsal bone relative to the first metatarsal bone under loading conditions. We defined this phenomenon as synonymous with forefoot varus on the coronal plane. The results of this study have clarified part of the clinical condition of the forefoot in flatfoot deformity and may have applications in basic research of the staging advancement and substage classification of PTTD.

Combined magnetic resonance imaging approach for the assessment of in vivo knee joint kinematics under full weight-bearing conditions.

The development of detailed and specific knowledge on the biomechanical behavior of loaded knee structures has received increased attention in recent years. Stress magnetic resonance imaging techniques have been introduced in previous work to study knee kinematics under load conditions. Previous studies captured the knee movement either in atypical loading supine positions, or in upright positions with help of inclined supporting backrests being insufficient for movement capture under full-body weight-bearing conditions. In this work, we used a combined magnetic resonance imaging approach for measurement and assessment in knee kinematics under full-body weight-bearing in single legged stance. The proposed method is based on registration of high-resolution static magnetic resonance imaging data acquired in supine position with low-resolution data, quasi-static upright-magnetic resonance imaging data acquired in loaded positions for different degrees of knee flexion. The proposed method was applied for the measurement of tibiofemoral kinematics in 10 healthy volunteers. The combined magnetic resonance imaging approach allows the non-invasive measurement of knee kinematics in single legged stance and under physiological loading conditions. We believe that this method can provide enhanced understanding of the loaded knee kinematics.

Reliability of threaded locking screws.

A frequent problem for interlocking nailing that affects the treatment of the fracture is locking screw deformation. The aim of this study is to determine whether bending resistance is different between high, low, and unthreaded locking screws of interlocking femoral nails. Ninety screws were used in this experimental study, with 10 screws used in each of 9 groups. Three-point bending tests were performed on 6 groups of 5 mm screws (titanium, stainless steel, crossed with unthreaded, low threaded, and high threaded) and the same 3 thread types of 5.5 mm stainless steel screws in a 30-mm inner diameter steel tube, imitating the level of the lesser trochanter. An axial compressor was used to determine the yield points for permanent deformation in the locking screws by way of 3-point bending tests. The mean yield point value of the 3-point bending tests of 5-mm low threaded stainless steel locking screws was 2071 N, 53% less than that of unthreaded screws (3169 N). The mean yield point value of 5-mm high threaded stainless steel locking screws was 556 N, 272% less than that of low threaded screws (2071 N). To avoid locking screw deformation, high threaded screws must not be used as locking screws. In cases of unreliable patients, 5-mm low threaded screws should not be used in the nailing of comminuted or oblique femur shaft fractures. All 5-mm unthreaded screws and 5.5-mm low threaded stainless steel screws can be used safely in full weight-bearing conditions of unreliable patients.

Retrograde bridging nail in periprosthetic femoral fracture treatment which allows direct weight bearing

The bridging nail is a retrograde intramedullary femoral nail designed to stabilize periprosthetic femoral fractures. It offers a minimal invasive surgical approach in combination with early mobilization. The goal of this study was to evaluate the osteosynthesis under full weight-bearing conditions. Three groups of five composite fibreglass femora were prepared with a cemented hip stem. Group 1 underwent cyclic axial loading with 1500 N during 150 000 cycles. After completion, linear loading to failure was conducted. Groups 2 and 3 were submitted to linear increased torsional loading with and without an axial load respectively. Failure was defined as rotational movement of the connection (slippage). In the axial cyclic loading configuration, one specimen failed after 122 000 cycles. Four specimens passed 150 000 cycles and failed after linearly increasing the axial loading of 1940-2600 N (mean, 2408 N +/- 313 standard deviation (SD)). Slippage was first detected at a torque varying between 2.5 and 8.2 Nm (mean, 5.1 Nm +/- 2.1 SD) in group 2 and between 10.0 and 15.4 Nm (mean, 13.0 N m +/- 2.3 SD) in group 3. In conclusion the bridging nail offers a stable connection with the stem of a hip arthroplasty which can resist high repetitive loads, representative of direct full axial weight bearing. The biomechanical results support the clinical experience of a stable osteosynthesis enabling early post-operative mobilization.

THE EFFECTS OF AN OVER-GROUND HARNESS SYSTEM ON WALKING SPEED, CONFIDENCE, AND BALANCE IN A PATIENT WITH POST STROKE HEMIPLEGIA - A CASE STUDY

Background & Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an over-ground harness system on deficits found in patients with chronic stroke. Stroke is one of the leading causes of severe ambulation deficits and intensive gait training rehabilitation is needed to overcome these deficiencies. An overhead harness support system (OHST) is one training method under study that may directly affect both static and dynamic balance, thereby enhancing a patient's ambulation abilities. This system allows for gait and balance training under full weight bearing conditions while reducing the fear of falling. Case Description: A single subject case study design was used as a preliminary method to determine if the OHST training should warrant future study. The participant was a 58 year old female with left sided hemiplegia, one year post stroke. A Fugl-Meyer Lower Extremity Assessment of Sensorimotor Recovery score of 24 placed her within the moderately-severe deficit category. Methods And Materials: Measurements were taken one week prior to testing (to control for spontaneous recovery), one day prior to testing, after six sessions, and following training. The assessment tools included the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), 10 Meter Walk, Activities Specific Balance Confidence Scale (ABC), and the Balance Master Sensory Organization Test (SOT). One month follow up testing using BBS and the 10 Meter Walk test were taken to measure the amount of carry-over following therapy. The subject participated in 12 training sessions in the OHST. Training consisted of a 5-minute warm-up followed by various balance and gait activities. This was conducted over a six-week period with treatment sessions twice a week. Outcomes: Several of the subject's scores improved from initial to post treatment. BBS improved from 50 to 56, speed from 0.613 m/s to 0.963 m/s, and ABC increased from 70% to 86%. The subject's general balance score on the SOT test remained relatively stable (74 to 73). One month follow up scores for the BBS and the 10 meter walk tests indicated that the patient maintained her gains in both balance and speed. Discussion: The subject demonstrated improvements in the areas of speed, balance, and confidence at the end of the treatment intervention, which were maintained one-month post treatment. These results suggest that use of the OHST with a focus on gait mechanics and balance benefited the subject, improving her overall function. However, the single subject design limits our ability to determine if the OHST was responsible for the gains. The subject was young, fairly active, and motivated prior to the study, which may also have contributed to the improvements in balance and speed. Additionally, there was no control subject for comparison, so it is difficult to determine the overall impact of the OHST. The results from this study do warrant further investigation of OHST using a randomized control trial.

Deleterious tissue reaction to an alkylene bis(dilactoyl)-methacrylate bone adhesive in long-term follow up after screw augmentation in an ovine model

Biomaterials are designed to support orthopedic surgeons and once implanted they will help the body to heal itself. In this way one of the most attractive substances are biomaterials that allow gluing of bone fragments and implant fixation. Although no bone adhesive is established for practical use in clinical practice yet, there is evidence in vitro and in vivo that a new class of bone adhesives based on alkylene bis(dilactoyl)-methacrylates may meet the requirements to bridge the gap between bench and bedside. The purpose of this experimental study was to investigate the long-term biocompatibility as well as the integration in the remodeling process of a new polymer of this group of substances that was used for both fragment adaptation and implant fixation in a large-scale animal model. In 24 sheep the lateral tibial condyle was osteotomized and refixed by three cortical screws. In 12 of them overdrilling the bone thread of one screw was performed to simulate the poor mechanical properties of osteoporotic bone and the polymer was used in this setting for screw augmentation, furthermore the osteotomy surface was covered with polymer before osteosynthesis to analyze the influence of the material on bone healing. In the other 12 sheep that served as controls osteosynthesis was performed without a polymer. All animals were permitted to walk immediately after surgery under full weight bearing conditions. Six animals of the polymer group and six animals of the control group were analyzed after 6 weeks and 6 months, respectively. Bone healing and implant integration was evaluated by contact X-rays, histology and histomorphometric quantification. After 6 weeks integrity of the healing bone in the polymer group was preserved as compared to the controls, albeit signs of prolonged aseptic inflammation were observed in the polymer group, which is in line with previous reports. In sharp contrast after 6 months, extensive tissue destruction was observed in all animals of the polymer group that was attributed to a massive foreign body reaction at the histological level. These long-term results suggest that (i) short-term observation not always allow valid conclusions regarding the biocompatibility of biomaterials, (ii) that biocompatibility might vary between species, and (iii) that the polymer used in this setting, although previously attributed to be a good candidate for clinical use in patients, does not meet the necessary criteria and tremendously interferes with the physiology of skeletal repair.

Human Meniscus Allografts’ in Vivo Size and Motion Characteristics

Background Although many reports have described clinical outcome of meniscus transplants, their size and motion patterns are not well understood. This study assessed postoperative in vivo size and motion patterns of meniscus transplants under full weightbearing conditions. Hypothesis The human meniscus transplant has size and motion characteristics similar to the native menisci. Study Design Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods Eight meniscus transplants in 7 knees were studied 15 to 34 months postoperatively. The knees were scanned in an open magnetic resonance imaging 0.5-T superconducting magnet while standing. Single slice sagittal and coronal images were obtained at 0 °, 30 °, 60 °, and 90 ° of flexion in the operative and contralateral knees. Results The mean height and width of the anterior and posterior horns of the transplants were similar to those of native menisci. The millimeters of coronal displacement of motion of the midbody were also similar between the transplants and the native menisci. The anterior horn of the native medial menisci moved a mean of 5 mm more (total anterior to posterior translation, P<. 05) than did the transplants. The posterior horn of the native medial menisci, and both horns of the native lateral menisci, also tended to move more than the corresponding horns of the transplanted menisci, although this result could not be confirmed statistically, given the number of menisci studied. Conclusion Meniscus transplants had similar size and midbody motion characteristics as the native menisci. The horns of the meniscus transplants tended to show decreased motion compared with the native menisci. The operative techniques and subsequent healing of the graft bone and peripheral attachments provided a stable meniscus construct.

Ankle images digital analysis (AIDA): digital measurement of joint space width and subchondral sclerosis on standard radiographs

Objective Reliable evaluation of joint space width and subchondral sclerosis of osteoarthritic joints is difficult. The present study describes a new digital method to analyse standard radiographs of the ankle.Design Standardized radiographs were taken of the ankle of 12 patients with severe osteoarthritis (OA) under full weight-bearing conditions, before treatment and 1 year after initiation of treatment. Treatment consisted of 3 months distraction of the tibio–talar joint, for which clinical benefit has been shown previously. The width of the joint space was measured on digitized images of the radiographs by means of the newly developed semi-automatic digital technique called AIDA (Ankle Images Digital Analysis) and by means of the most widely used conventional analogue measurements. In addition, AIDA was used to assess subchondral sclerosis by measuring the intensity of the radiograph at fixed positions at the bone–cartilage interface.Results AIDA appeared to be a reliable method for measuring small changes in joint space width and subchondral sclerosis because the intra- and interobserver variation was small. Mean JSW for two observers was 1.96 and 2.00mm, with mean differences between two observations of 0.05 and −0.01, respectively. Mean subchondral sclerosis in the tibia was 1.52 and 1.61 with mean differences between two observations of, respectively, 0.00 and 0.03. In addition to conventional measurements, AIDA could demonstrate a decrease in subchondral sclerosis as a result of joint distraction of 71% and 69% after 1 year for talus and tibia, respectively.Conclusion The use of AIDA is preferable to the conventional analogue method for evaluating the severity of ankle OA, because the method provides quantitative data not only for the joint space width but also for subchondral sclerosis.
