Along with that, the usage of AI helps the companies to gain knowledge about the B2B marketing process which helps the companies to enhance their goods and products. In addition to that, by using the facilities of AI programs the companies can gain knowledge about the demands and needs of the market easily.Therefore, the companies can improve their products according to the demands of the markets. Thus, improving the services according to the demands and needs of the market helps the companies to enhance the number of the customer. Therefore, enhancing the number of the customer leads to the enhancement of the sales rate of the companies. Furthermore, the purpose of this particular research study is to analyze the artificial intelligence framework and its impact on the business performance of the companies. The usage of AI impacts not only the international companies but also the companies of domestic markets are impacted by the software program. In addition to that, the researcher has used the secondary methods for gathering genuine, objective and accurate data about the research topic. Apart from that, the researcher has used the qualitative methods for analyzing all the collected data in this research study.

Management of Regional Knowledge: Knowledge Flows Among University, Industry, and Government

The purpose of this paper is to study the process of knowledge creation and management in a geographic region, highlighting the knowledge flow through university–industry–government collaboration. The knowledge flow is analyzed from the perspective of the SECI model (socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization), developed by Nonaka and Takeuchi and of the triple helix concept, applied to the region knowledge theory. An analysis of the literature has been conducted in order to establish testable relationships between theories of knowledge management (KM), triple helix (TH) model, and regional knowledge (RK). A conceptual model that integrates theories of KM, TH, and RK represents a valuable framework to stimulate knowledge production and innovation through university–industry–government cooperation and collaboration in geographic regions. The knowledge economy needs to stimulate innovation and sustainable development. As it depends on knowledge, the study is justified as it suggests a new framework for knowledge production and innovation in regions, emphasizing the collaboration and interaction among players in order to consolidate the synergy as in a knowledge production chain.

Queer/Humanitarian Visibility: The Emergence of the Figure of The Suffering Syrian Gay Refugee

Prior to the Syrian uprisings in 2011, Syrian queer and trans* populations were rather unknown and irrelevant to global LGBT politics, Western media, and humanitarian efforts. This changed considerably after the uprisings as representations steadily increased and proliferated on social media and in journalistic accounts. This article traces this shift and argues that queer and trans* Syrians became visible primarily through a queer/humanitarian media-visibility paradigm and the construction, consolidation, and circulation of the figure of the suffering Syrian gay refugee. Drawing on analyses of what I consider pivotal events and media representations as well as journalistic writings, this article maps out the ways in which the figure of the suffering Syrian gay refugee and the associations it foregrounds emerged, circulated, and became normalized after the uprisings and years into the Syrian conflict. Furthermore, based on ethnographic fieldwork that I conducted with Syrian LGBT refugees in Istanbul during 2014 – 15, this article challenges the suitability of this figure as a knowledge production framework and suggests new research trajectories to approach, understand, and write Syrian queer and trans* histories beyond the queer/humanitarian visibility paradigm and the figure of the suffering Syrian gay refugee.

Knowledge begets knowledge: university knowledge spillovers and the output of scientific papers from U.S. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) projects

Scientific papers submitted for publication from U.S. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)-funded research projects are an innovative output that has yet to be studied systematically. Using a knowledge production framework, we identify empirically covariates with the number of scientific papers resulting from SBIR projects over the period 1992 through 2001. We find empirically that when the firm involves a university in its funded project, more scientific papers result. When the form of university involvement is taken into account, we find the greatest impact on the output of scientific papers comes from the inclusion of an individual from the university who originally developed the technology being pursued by the firm in its SBIR project. In other words, the project-specific technical human capital knowledge from the university that spills over to the firm’s project begets (i.e., brings about) additional knowledge in the form of scientific papers submitted for publication.

Redefining ‘tradition’ in political thought

Debates about preserving, modifying and applying sharia (Islamic normative guidelines) through principles of taqlid (to follow) or ijtihad (to carry out independent interpretation) are immensely useful in thinking through a sharper definition of tradition for political theorists and historians of political thought more generally. Political theorists and historians of political thought have tended to use tradition in a range of ways without specifying key elements of the concept. Building on debates in Islamic thought related to taqlid and its relationship to ijtihad, and through a focus on the ideas of a contemporary thinker, Javed Ahmed Ghamidi, this paper proposes that tradition in political thought can be defined as a framework for knowledge production and consumption constituted of two key elements: method and sensibility. Further, the paper suggests that this definition allows us a better understanding of vibrancy in a tradition: vehement debate, contradictions and internal contestation are not signs of decay but of vitality within a tradition. It is the severe delinking of the two elements of a tradition, method and sensibility, which has greater potential to reduce its vibrancy.

Social and Rational: The Presentation of Nature of Science and the Uptake of Change in Evolution Textbooks

ABSTRACTThe nature of science (NOS) as described by education scholars is a critical component of scientific literacy and includes both rational and social aspects taught best in an explicit and reflective manner. NOS is frequently tied to a critical contextual empiricism (CCE) framework for knowledge production. Central to CCE is that objectivity is attained only with an integration of the rational and social within a diverse community of scholars that is open to criticism. The field of sexual selection theory is ripe with opportunities to present NOS in an explicit and reflective context that promotes the understanding of knowledge production as simultaneously social and rational. We examined the presentation of sexual selection theory in college evolutionary biology textbooks to evaluate the extent to which textbooks demonstrate uptake of change in the field and use socially driven critique to present science as both social and rational. All of the textbooks incorporated new research in the field and some provided context about how and why the field has changed but not to the degree warranted by the rich literature available. We provide recommendations for the integration of NOS and social embeddedness of science, and posit that a portrayal of science as both social and rational has the potential to promote more inclusive science teaching and a more accurate representation of science.

Practitioners' Views on Useful Knowledge for Climate Change Adaptation Projects

In countries like Bolivia and Colombia, increased pressures on freshwater supplies are putting millions at risk, and effective adaptation strategies will be critical to mitigating the worst impacts in these regions. Transdisciplinary knowledge production frameworks can account for the interactions of natural and human-made environments, and provide a potential solution for those in developing regions. Recent scholarship has reconciled common perceptions of transdisciplinary knowledge within the literature; however, little is known about how practitioners define transdisciplinary knowledge, and whether this type of knowledge production is favored. Using the Q-methodology, this study examines the role of transdisciplinary knowledge among 22 practitioners from non-governmental organizations working on climate change adaptation projects in Bolivia and Colombia. Four statistically different perspectives emerged: 1) Engaged Multi-Dimensional Problem-Solver, 2) User-Focused Advocate, 3) Ivory Tower Producer, and 4) Development Traditionalist. These results and recommendations for using a transdisciplinary knowledge production framework to address climate change adaptation in developing regions will be discussed. Science or graduates: How do firms benefit from the proximity of universities?

This paper examines the impact of universities on the technological performance of adjacent firms. We extend existing research by jointly analyzing, and comparing, the effects of education (graduates) and scientific research (publications) activities of universities on firms’ technological performance. Adopting the knowledge production framework, our study is conducted at the level of 101 Italian territorial areas (provinces) and four industries. Overall, fixed-effect panel data models reveal a positive effect of both university graduates and scientific publications on the technological performance of firms. At the same time, considerable industry differences are observed. While the provision of university graduates positively affects firm performance in all industries under study, additional effects for scientific research are only observed in electrical and pharmaceutical industries that are science-intensive and where the scientific knowledge base is changing rapidly over time. The observation that spillovers from academia into the industrial texture of provinces rely on education and research in an industry-specific manner is relevant to the design of appropriate research and innovation policies.

The evolution of local participation and the mode of knowledge production in Arctic research

Arctic science is often claimed to have been transformed by the increased involvement of local people, but these claims of a research paradigm have not been empirically evaluated. We argue that the new participatory research paradigm emerging in Arctic science embodies many of the principles of the Mode 2 knowledge production framework. Using the Mode 2 thesis as an assessment framework, we examined research articles appearing between 1965 and 2010 in the journal Arctic to assess the extent to which there has been a paradigm shift toward more participatory approaches. Results suggest that the involvement of local people has increased only slightly over the last half century and continues to vary systematically among disciplines, organizations, and regions. Analysis of three additional journals focused on Arctic and circumpolar science establishes the generality of these slight increases in local involvement. There is clearly room for more community involvement in Arctic science, but achieving this will require either increasing the proportional representation of the organizations, disciplines, and regions with a track record of successful Mode 2 research, or encouraging Mode 2 research innovation within the organizations, disciplines, and regions currently predominated by Mode 1 approaches.

Modelling the effect of national culture on countries’ innovation performances: A conditional full frontier approach

This paper provides empirical evidence of the link between countries’ cultural factors and innovation performance. By defining innovation process in a knowledge production framework it uses conditional and unconditional Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models together with data from the European Innovation Scoreboard for the year 2007 and Hofstede’s cultural indexes. In this way it models and measures the effect of cultural values on 25 European countries’ innovation efficiency levels. The empirical results reveal that national culture can impact countries’ innovation performance. Specifically, we find significant negative effects on countries’ innovation efficiency levels for countries with higher power distance and uncertainty avoidance values.

An Investigation of the Relationship of Innovation and Knowledge Production

In this paper, we examine the relationship of innovative inputs to innovative output using a knowledge production framework approach. Following the line of research first developed by Griliches, the main concept is that innovation input (research effort) could lead to the knowledge generation, which could be reflected on a new or an improved product. We adopt, as the main innovative input, the innovation expenditure per sales and as the innovative output, the share of innovative products in the total of sales. We test the hypothesis that innovation expenditure is related non-linearly to knowledge growth (in terms of the share of new products in total sales), forming an inverted U-shaped curve at the firm level in a short-term period. Innovation activity is not the only factor influencing the generation of new knowledge and it is accepted that it can lead to knowledge growth. It is therefore of interest to look at the knowledge growth problems faced by enterprises when trying to carry out innovation. The analysis is based on the data set of the research: Women and Innovation: Determinant Factors and Obstacles of Innovative Activity of Greek Firms, 2004- 2006, ARCHIMEDES research project, Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece.

A large body of literature estimates private returns to R&D adopting the Griliches knowledge production framework which ignores the potential impact of spillovers on consistent estimation. Using a panel of 12 manufacturing industries across ten OECD economies, we investigate whether ignoring spillovers leads to bias in the estimated private returns to R&D. We compare results from a common factor framework, which accounts for spillovers and other unobserved shocks, to those from a standard Griliches approach. Our findings confirm that conventional estimates conflate own-R&D and spillover effects, implying that spillovers cannot be ignored even when the interest lies exclusively in evaluating private returns to R&D.

Performing place, mobility and identity in South Africa

Cultural geography, as a label for a sub-discipline or a mode of enquiry, has little purchase in South Africa. Studies of the cultural production of place are, however, undertaken in multiple fields, usefully if loosely grouped under the banner of ‘cultural studies’. I argue that geographers have much of value to contribute to this field, particularly through engaging in debates that currently enliven cultural geography elsewhere. In particular, the geographical work inspired by performance studies can help balance the dominance of discursive frameworks in South African cultural studies of place. Using Nigel Thrift's non-representational theory as a springboard, I suggest that a materialist perspective on cultural production may productively re-orient the dominant ontology and epistemology of both geographical and cultural research into South African place-making, but that this need not rely on an opposition between representational and non-representational approaches. I argue that this dualism can be displaced by the concept of ‘embodied stories’, which allows the social, narrative, referential and symbolic functions of performance to be knitted together with its irreducible materiality. Through a reading of three recent performing arts events in Cape Town, I explore the value of this framework for knowledge production in cultural geography.

A flower in full blossom?: Ecological economics at the crossroads between normal and post-normal science

In this paper we address some potential difficulties ecological economics (EE) might be confronted with in its further development. EE has evolved with intent to tackle the urgent problems human society faces today, in particular the ones related to environmental and ecological issues. To deal with such problems, a new concept of science different from disciplinary, normal science seems to be necessary. We will present post-normal and mode-2 science as two examples of such a concept. The importance of this new concept does not lie in the fact that it provides a new framework for knowledge production. Rather, it lies in the fact that the set of values behind it can be seen as a ‘regulative principle’, i.e., as a collection of ideas and principles with the potential to guide the actions and attitudes one takes with respect to the urgent problems in a transparent way, helping to become aware of and making explicit one's own normative assumptions. EE can be seen as one manifestation of this regulative principle. On the other hand, it is increasingly developing into a normal science with its special set of institutions, what endangers it's status of being mode-2. Besides EE, there are other frameworks that try to set up sort of a ‘sustainability science’. It is important to integrate all these initiatives in some way, at least on an abstract level. Otherwise the conception of a ‘new mode of science’ dealing with sustainability becomes as inflationary as the term ‘sustainability’ itself and the discussion of this concept may go on without leading to any conclusion. It is not necessary and effective to employ too many resources being engaged in the discussion of the status of a ‘sustainability science’, however defined. What counts is to take actions and to try to solve these pressing problems—whatever label may be given to such processes—and to be engaged in a open-minded and self-reflecting way, aware of one's own system of values, shortly, according to the regulative principle given by the values behind mode-2 science.
