The Ability to Use the Conjunctions "ZHIYOU...CAI" and "ZHIYAO...JIU" by fourth-semester students of STBA-PIA Medan.

This study aims to analyze the ability of fourth-semester or Second year students of STBA-PIA Medan to use the Chinese conjunctions “zhiyou……cai” and “zhiyao……jiu” and to identify the factors influencing this ability. The research uses an integrative research design, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to complement each other. Data were collected through tests, while the factors influencing ability were analyzed through interviews. The data analysis results show that the fourth-semester students of the Chinese Literature program at STBA-PIA Medan demonstrated a high level of proficiency, with an average score of 87. The median score was 90, the mode was 95, and the standard deviation was 13. The factors influencing the students’ ability to use the conjunctions “zhiyou……cai” and “zhiyao……jiu” consist of four factors: (1) motivation, which includes internal and external motivation, short-term and long-term motivation, and integrative and instrumental motivation, (2) formal instruction, (3) first language influence, and (4) environmental factors, including formal and informal environments. Improving teaching quality: Development of the PjBL microteaching model for prospective biology teachers

Educational institutions prepare prospective biology teachers so they can carry out learning effectively and efficiently. However, there is a gap in meeting the needs for effective learning for prospective biology teachers. Based on a survey of 177 prospective teacher students, it was found that they preferred microteaching to be integrated with the project-based learning model. The aim of this research is to develop a PjBL-based microteaching model. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE model. The research subjects were 36 fourth-semester students from the Biology Education Study Program who were enrolled in microteaching courses. The PjBL-based microteaching model has the syntax, (1) Instructional to the concept of microteaching, (2) plan, (3) teach, (4) feedback and reflection, (5) project collection, (6) project evaluation. Conclusion: This PjBL-based microteaching model is developed from microteaching and PjBL theories. The PjBL-based microteaching model for prospective biology teachers is deemed suitable for use, as indicated by validator assessments and small group and large group tests. Based on the results of the large group trials, it is evident that this model positively impacts the 4C skills of prospective biology teachers.

A GENRE-BASED APPROACH IN TEACHING MULTIMODAL TEXTS

Abstract: This research aims to investigate how the teaching and learning processes of English Education Program Students occur in creating multimodal texts using the Genre Based Approach teaching method. The study seeks to demonstrate that Genre Based Approach, as a teaching method for academic reading and writing courses, can assist students in creating their own multimodal texts, which combine words and images. Participatory Case Study is employed as the research design, aiming to delve deeper into the phenomenon of teaching and learning processes within it. The use of field notes in each phase of the learning activities is crucial in this research as it clearly records interactions between lecturers and students in the classroom. This study provides evidence that the analysis based on the Image Framework analysis (O'Halloran, 2008) in collaboration with the Transitivity System from Systemic Functional Linguistics (Emilia, 2014) enables students to comprehend multimodal texts, analyze them, and ultimately create their own multimodal texts using the genre of analytical exposition. The results of this research demonstrate that the Genre Based Approach teaching process, conducted over 14 sessions from February 21 to April 10, 2024, has improved the reading and writing abilities of fourth-semester students who will be undertaking the PLP program in their fifth semester. This improvement is evidenced by the pre-test and post-test results, which measured understanding of multimodal texts and the production of multimodal texts.

Unlocking Fluent Speech: Enhancing Student Speaking Skills through Digital Storytelling

This study evaluates the impact of digital storytelling on improving college students' speaking skills, based on Vygotsky’s Social Constructivism, which emphasizes the role of social interaction and cultural tools in learning. Using a quasi-experimental design, 60 fourth-semester students at the Islamic Institute of Sunan Kalijogo Malang were divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group from the Faculty of Islamic Da'wah and Broadcasting engaged in digital storytelling, while the control group, including students from the Tarbiyah and Teaching Faculty, did not. Narrative texts such as fairy tales and fables were used in the intervention. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in speaking skills, with their mean post-test score increasing from 55.39 to 61.72, compared to a decrease in the control group's score from 57.01 to 55.12. Digital storytelling effectively enhances students' speaking skills by providing engaging, interactive learning experiences. The study supports the integration of digital storytelling into language instruction to improve oral communication abilities

The Family, The Family Social Climate and Academic Performance

Introduction The influence of family factors on the academic performance of nursing students in group B of the University Foundation of the Andean Area 2022 was characterized. Methodology: This is a descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional study. Non-random sample of 50 students. Results: The results of this research show that there is a significant relationship between the Family Social Climate and the School Performance of fourth-semester students, group B, of the Nursing program of the University Foundation of the Andean Area Pereira Sectional in the second semester of 2022. It is concluded that the Low Academic Performance demonstrated by the students of the Institution in the year 2022 is related to the inadequate Family Social Climate in which the students live. Conclusion: Families do not identify high family risk even with adverse conditions such as weakness with the social support network. It is necessary to intensify actions that involve the health of the family.

CONJUNCTIVE RELATION OF GRAMMATICAL COHESION ON FOURTH SEMESTER STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ESSAY WRITING OF STBA JIA

This research aims to analyze the types of conjunctive relation and the use of all types of each word in academic essay writing of fourth-semester students of STBA JIA. It focuses on 1) identifying the conjunctive item and 2) determining the use of all types of each word of the conjunction of grammatical cohesion on fourth-semester students’ academic essay writing of STBA JIA. The grand theory used for this research is Halliday and Hasan (1976). This research uses a qualitative methodology in which the researcher is knowledgeable about the academic essays, types, and the use of all types of each word of the conjunction of grammatical cohesion. The 20 pieces of data describe the types of conjunctions and show the relation between the use of all types of each word. The percentage of types of conjunction consists of Temporal 74.5%, Adversative 16.3%, Additive 4.1%, and Causal 5.1%. Based on the data, the dominant type of conjunction is Temporal. This research could be further examined and as a reference to assist understanding of conjunctive relation of grammatical cohesion and expected to give some advantages especially for the researcher himself, the respondents, and all university students toward their writing skills.

Gamification as a Tool to Improve Vocabulary in English Language in High-School Students

Gamification has gained popularity among educators who perceive it as a useful tool for carrying out the teaching-learning process optimally. The lack of positive results in the learning of English as a foreign language has become one of the main challenges Mexico faces considered the language as a priority. English teachers know the importance of finding options to present new words to students in a way they could learn appropriately. Vocabulary is a meaningful key of language learning, based on it, other skills are developed. Trough unplugged gamification there has been determinate the relation between the strategy and academic results in written tests in vocabulary area, specifically nouns, among fourth-semester students in high-school education at Plantel Norte, Escuela de Bachilleres. The study follows a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, correlational scope, and a longitudinal study moment when nouns have been measured based on tests administered before and after the development and use of these low-cost games.

Reading Comprehension and Test-Taking Strategies of Different Achievement Levels

The complexity of the reading process, which poses significant challenges for EFL and ESL learners, underpins this research into effective strategies for both reading comprehension and answering English reading texts. This qualitative phenomenological research aimed to explore the strategies that students use during reading activities and while taking reading comprehension tests. The study involved four fourth-semester students, differentiated by gender and achievement levels: a high-achieving female, a low-achieving female, a high-achieving male, and a low-achieving male. The research identified that students employed a variety of strategies, with 11 metacognitive strategies being used out of a possible 23, including determining word meaning, making connections, inferring, and summarizing. Additionally, four out of the five FIVES reading strategies were utilized: inference, vocabulary, summarization, and experience. High-achieving students employed more strategies, leading to better comprehension and higher test scores. For test-taking, strategies such as careful time management, revisiting difficult questions, and employing process-of-elimination techniques were noted. The effectiveness of both reading and test-taking strategies, along with factors like topic familiarity and the ability to make inferences, were crucial in determining reading success. These findings underscore the importance of targeted interventions that focus on teaching effective strategies, enhancing topic familiarity, and supporting students in developing robust test-taking strategies, particularly for low-achieving students.

Implementation Of The Project-Based Learning (PJBL) Model In The Dance And Drama Arts Education Course To Develop Student Creativity

This study aims to apply the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model to dance and drama education in the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, FIPP-Yogyakarta State University through art performances in developing student creativity for one semester. Project Based Learning (PjBL) is a learning model that centers on students using projects or activities as a means of learning to gain learning experiences, achieve attitude, knowledge and skill competencies. This research is a type of qualitative research with a descriptive method approach. The researcher conducted a study of dance and drama learning through the performing arts process in developing student creativity in the dance and drama education course. The subjects of the study were all fourth semester students at Yogyakarta State University who took the dance and drama education course in the 2023/2024 Academic Year. The results of this study show that the creativity of dance and drama works in art performances is very good, able to show good creativity, able to apply the project-based learning model, good teamwork and creativity, more independent, able to create new things and productive in managing performing arts management in the dance and drama process. The implementation of the project-based learning model was declared successful and a success in the dance and drama arts education course.

PEMBENTUKAN KARAKTER PESERTA DIDIK MELALUI KULIAH KERJA LAPANGAN (KKL) TAMAN NASIONAL BALURAN BANYUWANGI

Character must be formed through various activities. KKL is one of the activities carried out through learning outside the classroom. The purpose of this study was to determine the character building of students through field work activities (KKL) in the Baluran Banyuwangi national park area. The research method is descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were fourth semester students of Zainul Hasan Islamic University Genggong. The results showed that students have good character. The results of student data have a high percentage level of character building indicators of 85%. The percentage is based on the activities of students during the MPA activities. The highest indicators are mutual cooperation and self-confidence. Learners successfully apply character building very well.

Academic Genre Instruction and Its Influence on University Writing Proficiency

The ongoing debate in language education revolves around the effectiveness of pedagogical approaches in teaching writing skills, particularly the merits of Genre-Based Pedagogy versus Isolated Skill-Focused Conventional Methods, which focus on practicing individual writing skills separately. This study investigated the impact of Genre-Based Pedagogy on 16 purposively selected fourth-semester students from the English Education Department at Harapan Bangsa University. Using an experimental design, participants were divided into experimental (8 students from class A) and control (8 students from class B) groups, with pre-test and post-test assessments over eight weeks. Results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group's writing skills, with a mean post-test score of 78.75 compared to 62.25 in the control group (t = 8.12). These findings suggest that Genre-Based Pedagogy, emphasizing contextualized learning and immersion in diverse text genres, significantly enhances writing proficiency compared to conventional methods, enabling students to effectively integrate grammar, vocabulary, content development, and organizational skills tailored to specific genres.

Enhancing Students’ Mastery On Phrasal Verbs By Applying Make A Match Technique

This is Classroom Action Research (henceforth, CAR) which was mainly carried out to prove that the implementation of Make A Match technique could enhance students’ mastery on phrasal verbs and to describe the students’ responses towards the implementation of Make A Match technique in learning processes of phrasal verbs. This CAR was carried out in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of four phases. The research subjects of this CAR are the fourth semester students of the English Language Education Study Program in the Academic Year of 2022/2023 at a private university in Medan consisting of 14 students. The analysis of quantitative data shows that the students’ total score and mean increased continually from the pre-test, formative test, and post-test. The students’ total score in the pre-test is 270 and the mean of the pre-test is 19.3; the students’ total score in the formative test is 792 and the mean of the formative test is 56.6; the students’ total score in the post-test is 1.072 and the mean of the post-test is 76.6. The analysis of qualitative data shows that the learning processes of phrasal verbs through the application of Make A Match technique ran very well. The class atmosphere was more alive and enjoyable after Make A Match technique was implemented so that the students were more active and motivated to learn and master phrasal verbs. It is advisable that English teachers or English lecturers apply Make A Match technique to teach phrasal verbs to their students.

The effect of the effectiveness of red ginger and L14 acupressure on (Primary Dysmenorrhoea) in fourth semester students of D III Midwifery Study Program STIKES Maranatha Kupang

<h2><em>Background</em><em>: </em><em>Menstrual pain is commonly felt by women on the first day of menstruation. Based on the results of an initial survey conducted at STIKes Maranatha Kupang D-III Midwifery Study Program 1 (10%) people who experience mild dysmenorrhoea, 7 (70%) people experience moderate dysmenorrhoea, 2 (20%) people who experience severe dysmenorrhoea, 2 (20%) people who experience very severe dysmenorrhoea every month.</em><em> </em></h2><p><strong><em>Objectives : </em></strong><em>The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in effectiveness between red ginger and L14 acupressure on menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhoea) in students at STIKes Maranatha Kupang D III Midwifery Study Program.</em></p><p><strong><em>Methods: </em></strong><em>The design used in this study was comparative analytics with an observational approach. The study population was all adolescent girls who had primary dysmenorrhoea and were not taking painkillers.</em><em> </em><em>A sample of 32 respondents was taken by accidental sampling. The instrument used is the NRS Bourbanis pain scale assessment sheet. This research was conducted at STIKes Maranatha Kupang Midwifery Study Program D-III. </em></p><p><strong><em>Results </em></strong><em>: The pretest results of the red ginger group showed that most respondents (56%) 9 respondents experienced mild. pain, while the post test results showed almost all respondents (81%) 13 respondents experienced mild pain.</em><em> </em><em>The pretest results of the L14 Acupressure group showed that most respondents (75%) 12 respondents experienced moderate pain, while the post test results showed almost all respondents (81%) 13 respondents experienced mild pain. With the statistical test Mann-Whitney Test the results show P_value = 0.030 < (α) 0.05.</em></p><p><strong><em>Conclusions: </em></strong><em>T</em><em>hat there is a significant difference in effectiveness between after consumption of red ginger and L14 on the intensity of menstrual pain in adolescent girls at STIKes Maranatha Kupang Study Program D-III Midwifery. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as an alternative option to overcome / reduce the intensity of menstrual pain (primary dysmenorrhoea) in adolescent girls without having to use chemical drugs.</em></p>

‘HEY BLOG’ CAN PERSONAL WEBSITE ASSIST L2 STUDENTS’ WILLINGNESS TO DO PEER FEEDBACK?

Technology's rapid growth has significantly impacted how lecturers incorporate technology into classroom activities, especially when providing feedback. The students will receive feedback during the revision session. There are many techniques for giving feedback on students' writing. For instance, peer and self-feedback are two techniques for checking students' mistakes. Therefore, this research portrays technology as a medium for implementing peer and self-feedback in students' writing. This research aims to describe the integration of media in giving feedback. The media are blogs and Google Docs. This research also gathered students' perceptions of the use of online media. In this research, the researcher implemented qualitative research. This research was conducted by the fourth-semester students of the essay writing class, English Education Study Program, Uin Raden Intan Lampung. The researcher used documentation, an internet survey, and an observation sheet to gather data. The data from the research is analyzed interactively. The findings highlight the significant benefits of utilizing blogs and Google Docs for reflective writing practices. The implication of this research underscores the importance of integrating online media for peer and self-feedback to enhance students' writing skills effectively. This research contributes valuable insight into leveraging technology for academic improvement and fostering a conducive learning environment.

Student compliance in paying zakat: Do zakat literacy and awareness matter?

Purpose – This study analyzes how zakat literacy and awareness affect compliance with zakat payments among Islamic students. Zakat literacy involves understanding zakat’s concept, types, calculation, and distribution, while awareness includes recognizing zakat’s importance as a religious and socioeconomic duty.Methodology – This study employed a quantitative approach using primary data collected from second- and fourth-semester students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar through purposive sampling and questionnaires distributed to 116 individuals via WhatsApp groups. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with SPSS Version 26, chosen for its comprehensive statistical tools and user-friendly interface. Findings – Data analysis revealed that both zakat literacy and awareness had a positive and significant effect on compliance with paying zakat. Students with higher levels of zakat literacy and deeper awareness of the benefits of zakat are more motivated and consistent in paying zakat, according to Sharia provisions.Implications – This study highlights the importance of zakat education and counseling in universities to enhance literacy and awareness, which can ultimately increase compliance with paying zakat. This increase in compliance supports the achievement of Zakat’s social and economic goals in reducing poverty and social inequality.Originality – This study makes a unique contribution by focusing on the role of zakat literacy and awareness among students, a topic that has been underexplored. These findings can inform the development of more effective zakat education programs at the university level.

Role Playing to Improve English Vocabulary Ability in Speaking Skill

In this study, initially scoring at 2.15, the objective was to enhance students’ English vocabulary for speaking through a role-playing learning strategy, using a Collaborative Classroom Action Research approach. The methodology involved stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection in distinct cycles, each comprising two meetings. Data were collected using methods like speaking skill evaluations, questionnaires on role-playing practice, and field notes. The participants were fourth-semester students of the D3 English Study Program at Madiun State Polytechnic. Notably, student scores in speaking vocabulary improved across cycles, from 2.42 in the first to 3.15 in the third, meeting the success criterion of 3.01 and demonstrating the effectiveness of the role-playing strategy in the learning process.

PENGEMBANGAN MODUL DIGITAL MENGGUNAKAN FRAMEWORK TPACK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KEMAMPUAN LIFE SKILLS SISWA

The purpose of this study is to develop a digital module using the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework in enhancing students' life skills and assessing the effectiveness of lecturers' learning management. The respondents of this study were the fourth-semester students of the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) program. This study employed an R&D (Research and Development) design that follows the 4-D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) model. The design adopted the theory proposed by Plomp, which outlines five steps: problem analysis, design, realization, implementation, and evaluation. The findings of this study indicated that students have a significant role in teaching and learning process. It revealed the lecturers’ self-reflection on digital technology-based teaching abilities. Additionally, it implied the development of student creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, negotiation, and decision-making skills. These are integral components of 21st-century skills that play a pivotal role in students' future careers. This study concluded that the digital module using TPACK framework could enhance students' life skills and demonstrated high practicality regarding usage and lecturers’ self-development.

Analisis Gerak Biomekanika (Kinovea Software) Untukmengembangkan Kemampuan Akurasi Shooting Sepakbola Pada Mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Ke Olahragawaan Universitas Negeri Makassar

Research assesses movement, shooting accuracy and knee angle in football. Using a biomechanics approach with Kinovea’s software, the study aims to evaluate the process of recording such movements, focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of the method. The sample consisted of 30 fourth semester students in the Physical Education, Sports, and Recreation Study Program at (UNM). This study used a survey method with an observational approach to analyze the relationship between knee angle and ball speed in the context of football shooting techniques. Visual recording of shooting motion techniques is done with a camera and analyzed using Kinovea’s software. The research sample consisted of 30 Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) students who had the best shooting accuracy and were male at Makassar State University. Data on ball velocity and knee angle were analyzed using the SPSS program version 25. The results showed a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.591, with a significance (2-tailed) of 0.001, indicating a positive and significant relationship between knee angle and ball speed. However, it should be noted that correlation does not imply causality. The first model has a coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.349, indicating that about 34.9% of the variability in ball velocity can be explained by knee angle. An Adjusted R Square value of 0.326, indicating that the addition of predictor or sample variables will not provide a significant improvement in explaining ball velocity variability. Although there is a strong and significant relationship between knee angle and ball speed, other factors such as player technique and environmental factors can also influence this relationship. Therefore, more research is needed to understand the additional factors that influence this relationship as well as to establish a causal relationship between the two variables.

Profile of Entrepreneurial Interests of Science Teacher Candidates

This study aims to describing biology students’ perceptions of entrepreneurial interest. This study is an exploratory research with 55 biology education students as respondents. The research instrument used was a closed questionnaire with degraded answers according to a Likert scale that had been validated by experts and declared valid. Analysis of research data used is descriptive quantitative statistics and inferential statistics with Anova test at a significance level of 5%. The results of the study show that (1) the perceptions of biology education students regarding entrepreneurial interest are as follows: second-semester students have an average score of 3.05 with a category of Tall, fourth-semester students have an average score of 3.01 with a category of Tall, sixth-semester students have an average score of 3.23 with a category of Tall, and eighth-semester students have an average score of 3.00 with a category of Tall; (2) no significant difference in the perceptions of second, fourth, sixth, and eighth-semester students regarding entrepreneurial interest, which is proven by a significance value of 0.554, which is greater than 0.05 (>0.05).

ADAPTASI STRATEGI MANAJEMEN DALAM PEMBELAJARAN JARAK JAUH: PEMBELAJARAN PADA ERA PASCA PANDEMI

This research aims to gain deeper insights into the experiences and perceptions of 50 fourth-semester students in the Economics Education program at Universitas PGRI Argopuro Jember (UNIPAR) during the academic year 2022/2023 regarding their learning and adaptation experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-pandemic period. The research method employed is qualitative, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary data collection instrument. The findings of the study indicate that students faced various challenges in navigating remote learning during the pandemic and beyond. They faced technical issues and had trouble staying motivated and focused during online learning. However, as time passed after the pandemic, some students showed better adaptation to this new learning environment. Additionally, the study identifies key adaptation strategies used by students during and after the pandemic, such as improving time management and seeking assistance from lecturers and peers. These insights greatly enhance our understanding of how students manage remote learning challenges in both pandemic and post-pandemic contexts.
