Abstract The inhibition of pollution accumulation on the ground equipment by cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) as coating materials was investigated, and the effects of discharge voltage, power supply polarity, and the material properties of ground equipment on the characteristics of dirt accumulation were discussed. When the voltage was greater than 40 kV, the pollution accumulation of the sampling plate of the PVC-coated conductor was higher than that of the XLPE-coated conductor. Whether it was PVC or XLPE coated wire, the amount of pollution accumulation under negative polarity power was greater than that under positive polarity power. When the ground equipment was made of aluminum sheets, the amount of pollution accumulated was greater than that of the PTFE. As the film thickness increased, the amount of pollution on the aluminum fouling film decreased continuously.
