Validation of the Short Parallel and Extra-Short Form of the Heidelberg Figural Matrices Test (HeiQ).

Figural matrices tests are frequently used to measure fluid intelligence. The HeiQ-an operation-oriented figural matrices test-was developed to tackle limitations of previous matrices tests, mainly the possibility of excluding distractors based on superficial features instead of actively solving the items. However, allowing for a total administration time of 60 min for the assessment of one construct is not feasible in many study designs. Thus, the goal of this study was to develop three short forms of the existing HeiQ. Two parallel 20-item short forms (the HeiQ-S A and HeiQ-S B) that are comparable in content as well as on a psychometric basis and a 6-item short form (the HeiQ-XS) were generated. All tests showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha ranging from α = 0.82 to α = 0.86) and good criterion-related validity (correlations with high school grade (Abitur) ranging from r = -0.34 to r = -0.38); construct validity (correlations with the global intelligence scores of the Intelligence Structure Test 2000R were between r = 0.58 and r = 0.71). Further, all test versions showed to be Rasch-scalable, implying a uniform underlying ability. Thus, we conclude that all three newly developed short versions are valid tools for assessing fluid intelligence.

Development of Screening Psychosocial Stressors Objectively Test (SPOT) for the Parents having Children with Intellectual Disability (Feasibility Study)

In the present study an attempt has been made by the researcher to develop a free associative projective test named screening psychosocial stressors objectively test (SPOT) for the parents having children with intellectual disability (Feasibility Study) Here in this test researcher screen and find out the level of stress caused by their psychosocial needs of parents having children with intellectual disability. This free associative projective test can be helpful to the clinicians in assisting them in screening and finding out the stress and its root causing needs, A clinician by using this tool can recommend suitable therapy to a patient based on the patients’ views, needs, stressors and his or her personality trait in order to reduce their stress level, which ultimately leads to better adjustment in their personal and professional life. And also, this pilot study (N=60) indicate that SPOT is psychometrically a sound tool as the content validity of this tool has been established in terms of (7) expert opinion by using Delphi Method and the reliability was established in terms of parallel form reliability and the result suggested high (0.95). Further researches are recommended to standardize this free associative projective test for the assessment of various psychosocial disorders in parents having children with intellectual disability and in individuals. which may lead to significant indications for intervention and thereby improving their quality of life of an individual.

Examining the Law Guiding Prostitution in Uganda from the Lens of Kabalagala Parish-Makindye Division

This study examines the law guiding prostitution in Uganda. The study revealed that the increasing incidents of prostitution are clear evidence that the enforcement of laws against prostitution in Uganda is ineffective as it is like containing smoke while leaving the fire burning underneath. Based on these findings, the study calls for the authorities to engage social sciences experts to find out the real causes of prostitution and their probable solutions because ‘customers’ include married people. Without this, prostitution will be here to stay despite its being against the law and morals. More so, a combination of programmes that expand income-generating opportunities needs to be developed both in the short and long term. Furthermore, prostitutes should be called upon through their advocating organization placed in vocational training courses, and given parallel forms of support for involvement in entrepreneurial activities. Similarly, continuous training needs analysis should be undertaken for prostitutes to determine appropriate skills to be imparted for productive work. Finally, behavioral change programmes should be continued to discourage and eliminate risky behaviors in the communities, in the form of live drama performances, audio and visual materials, and recreation activities targeting both community members and prostitutes. Developing a Situational Judgement Test to Assess Clinical Judgement in Fourth-Year Medical Students: A Pilot Study.

Introduction Assessing clinical judgement objectively and economically presents a challenge in academic medicine. The authors developed a situational judgement test (SJT) to measure fourth-year medical students' clinical judgement. Methods A knowledge-based, single-best-answer SJT was developed by a panel of subject matter experts (SMEs). The SJT included 30 scenarios, each with five response options ranked ordinally from most to least appropriate. A computer-based format was used, and the SJT was piloted by two cohorts of fourth-year medical students at California University of Science and Medicine in 2022 and 2023 upon completion of an internship preparation course. Subsequently, students completed an optional survey. Evaluated scoring methods included original ordinal ranking, dichotomous, dichotomous with negative correction, distance from SME best answer, and distance from SME best answer squared. Results The SJT was completed by 142 fourth-year medical students. Cronbach's alpha ranged from 0.39 to 0.85, depending on the scoring method used. The distance-from-SME-best-answer-squared method yielded the highest internal consistency, which was considered acceptable. Using this scoring method, the mean score was 72.89 (SD = 48.32, range = 26-417), and the standard error of measurement was 18.41. Item analysis found that seven (23%) scenarios were of average difficulty, 13 (43%) had a good or satisfactory discrimination index, and nine (30%) had a distractor efficiency of at least 66%. Most students preferred the SJT to a traditional multiple-choice exam (16; 62%) and felt it was an appropriate tool to assess clinical judgement (15; 58%). Conclusions The authors developed and piloted an SJT to assess clinical judgement among medical students. Although not achieving validation, subsequent development of the SJT will focus on expanding the SME concordance panel, improving difficulty and discrimination indices, and conducting parallel forms reliability and adverse impact analyses.

On minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in complex space forms with semi-parallel second fundamental form

In this paper, we study the interesting open problem of classifying the minimal Lagrangian submanifolds of dimension [Formula: see text] in complex space forms with semi-parallel second fundamental form. First, we completely solve the problem in cases [Formula: see text]. Second, supposing further that the scalar curvature is constant for [Formula: see text], we also give an answer to the problem by applying the classification theorem of [F. Dillen, H. Li, L. Vrancken and X. Wang, Lagrangian submanifolds in complex projective space with parallel second fundamental form, Pacific J. Math. 255 (2012) 79–115]. Finally, for such Lagrangian submanifolds in the above problem with [Formula: see text], we establish an inequality in terms of the traceless Ricci tensor, the squared norm of the second fundamental form and the scalar curvature. Moreover, this inequality is optimal in the sense that all the submanifolds attaining the equality are completely determined.

Evaluation of alternate form reliability for the 9-item versions of the interprofessional socialization and valuing scale (ISVS-9A/9B)

BackgroundThe Interprofessional Socialization and Valuing Scale (ISVS) was developed to measure interprofessional socialization as one adopts and integrates learning into practice. While items for the ISVS-9A and 9B were drawn from three subscales of the original 24-item tool, these parallel forms were validated as a unidimensional measure using Canadian health professional and student populations. ObjectivesThe aim was to investigate if the ISVS-9A and ISVS-9B forms are interchangeable and examine their internal structure. DesignStudents completed an 18-question survey that included the nine items from the ISVS-9A followed by the nine items for ISVS-9B. SettingsTwo U.S. academic health science centers provided longitudinal interprofessional education (IPE) in a classroom setting. Participants625 students representing 13 programs from one institution and 512 students representing 7 health professions programs from the second institution were included in the study. MethodsParticipants completed the ISVS-9A and 9B as a single form. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and corresponding 95 % confidence intervals were calculated to measure the absolute agreement between the scores from the ISVS-9A and 9B forms. A factor analysis considering the original tool's three subscales was conducted. Results592 responses from one institution and 500 responses from the second institution were analyzed. ICC for the ISVS total scores demonstrated good reliability (0.75–0.90). However, the internal structure of the three factors demonstrated moderate reliability (0.5–0.75) and may need further investigation. ConclusionsThis study confirms the use of the ISVS-9A and 9B total score to measure interprofessional socialization in health professional students attending U.S. institutions. Additional research is needed to determine potential reasons for mixed outcomes from studies using ISVS-9A and 9B parallel forms.

Research on topology technology of integrated battery energy storage system with reconfigurable battery and converter

In traditional battery energy storage systems (BESS), batteries are usually connected in a simple series or parallel form, and separate converters and balancing modules are typically used for energy exchange between the battery and external sources, as well as for balancing energy between batteries. This paper proposes an integrated battery energy storage system (IBESS) with reconfigurable batteries and DC/DC converters, resulting in a more compact structure. The IBESS can reconfigure the connection of energy storage batteries based on the battery's status and external demand. The DC/DC converters can operate in different modes such as boost, buck, or buck-boost converters. The IBESS has five working modes: discharging mode, balancing mode, battery discharging and balancing mode, constant current and constant voltage (CCCV) charging mode and backup mode. To verify the feasibility of the proposed energy storage system, a model with four battery modules was built using MATLAB/SIMULINK, and the operation of all working modes was demonstrated. The simulation results verified the system's performance and reliability, demonstrating its flexibility and efficiency in different operating modes.

Intonation words in initial intentional communication of Mandarin-speaking children.

Intonation words play a very important role in early childhood language development and serve as a crucial entry point for studying children's language acquisition. Utilizing a natural conversation corpus, this paper thoroughly examines the intentional communication scenes of five Mandarin-speaking children before the age of 1;05 (17 months). We found that children produced a limited yet high-frequency set of intonation words such as " [a], [æ], [ε], [ən], [ə], eng [əŋ], [o], and [i]." These intonation words do not express the children's emotional attitudes toward propositions or events; rather, they are utilized within the frameworks of imperative, declarative, and interrogative intents. The children employ non-verbal, multimodal means such as pointing, gesturing, and facial expressions to actively convey or receive commands, provide or receive information, and inquire or respond. The data suggests that the function of intonation words is essentially equivalent to holophrases, indicating the initial stage of syntactic acquisition, which is a milestone in early syntactic development. Based on the cross-linguistic universality of intonation word acquisition and its inherited relationship with pre-linguistic intentional vocalizations, this paper proposes that children's syntax is initiated by the prosodic features of intonation. The paper also contends that intonation words, as the initial form of human vocal language in individual development, naturally extend from early babbling, emotional vocalizations, or sound expressions for changing intentions. They do not originate from spontaneous gesturing, which seems to have no necessary evolutionary relationship with the body postures that chimpanzees use to change intentions, as suggested by existing research. Human vocal language and non-verbal multimodal means are two parallel and non-contradictory forms of communication, with no apparent evidence of the former inheriting from the latter.

Compact pixelated scintillator detector investigation for gamma ray detection

Objective. A scintillator is a luminescent material that converts high-energy photons into visible light and is widely used in medical imaging. Different scintillators are applied to gamma imaging in proton therapy and boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT). A pixelated scintillator is suitable for position measurement. The energy resolution, detection efficiency and position measurement of pixelated scintillators coupled to a SiPM were investigated via two kinds of detectors. The goal of this manuscript was to accurately measure the gamma source position through spectrum analysis in selection of energy windows for characteristic gamma lines. Approach. Scintillators were effectively manufactured and encapsulated before testing, especially for the easily deliquescent LaBr3. The compact front-end electronic prototype modules with 2 × 2 array SiPMs in stacked form and 1 × 10 array SiPMs in parallel form were developed for gamma ray energy resolution and efficiency measurements with a radioactive source of 22Na, which had two energy gamma lines at 511 keV and 1274 keV. Energy calibration was used for accurate energy window selection when measuring the position of the gamma source. Main results. Evident inconsistencies were present between different pixels of the same type of scintillator. Thus, an energy calibration method was needed. LaBr3 was the first candidate scintillator for the gamma ray spectrum measurement since it exhibited the best performance with an energy resolution of ∼5%. The recommended size of LaBr3 was 5 × 5 mm2, which had a higher efficiency than the 3 × 3 mm2 size. The gamma count of the multiple mode of the 2 × 2 array was much higher than that of the single mode, while the energy resolution was poorer. Thus, multiple mode was not suitable for gamma ray detection. The 1 × 10 array detector had the potential to measure the gamma ray source position and could be used for proton therapy and BNCT. A small deviation of 0.22 cm was observed in the measurement of the source center position with Energy Window 1 for 511 keV and Energy Window 2 for 1274 keV before the energy calibration. No deviation was observed after energy calibration. Thus, to achieve a higher accuracy position measurement, automatic energy calibration algorithm was coded into data acquisition software. Significance. The characteristic gamma lines produced by particle therapy are abundant and useful for imaging technology. Our developed compact pixelated scintillator detector coupled with SiPMs could measure the gamma spectrum with high resolution. The energy calibration and window selection method could measure the position of the source with high accuracy. Therefore, an advanced imaging device based on the energy spectrum for particle therapy could be potentially attainable.

Validation of a Rubric to Assess Physiology Exam Multiple Choice Questions to Create Fair and Equitable Assessments

Inequities and achievement gaps exist for students from groups underrepresented in medicine (URiM) and for English language learners (ELLs). This is particularly evident with multiple choice assessments which are prevalent in health professions and medical education. Increasing the linguistic accessibility of test items by simplifying the language used while keeping the content diffculty was perceived as helpful to ELLs in an undergraduate Chemistry course (Lee & Orgill, 2022). Following best practices when writing exam questions provides consistent and valid measures of student comprehension. Across institutions we face similar challenges when forming and assessing multiple choice questions for our physiology exams. Some major flaws include long complex options; using vague terms; negatively structured stems; grammatical cues; word repeats. Lopez (2023) found that 56% items contained at least one flaw. The most common flaws identified were those in which the items were not approximately the same length and item options that did not have parallel grammatical form and structure. In order to address these issues in an objective way, we collectively modified the previously detailed rubric (Lopez, 2023) for identifying common flaws based on the “Item-Writing Guide” from the National Board of Medical Education (NBME®) and one formed in the context of general chemistry by Breakall et al. (2019). Twenty-six questions from physiology exams at three different institutions were evaluated by three faculty using the newly created rubric. After analyzing the questions, we returned as a group and compared our individual ratings, clarified any discrepancies and modified the rubric accordingly. We will conduct statistical analysis to assess our inter-rater reliability score before using this rubric to analyze the full question banks for physiology exams at each institution. This process is not limited to physiology educators since it can be utilized by teachers in any program or discipline. The significance of the work will not only benefit our validation of learning but it will also address specific equity issues by eliminating flaws that provide irrelevant diffculty or benefit test wise students. Furthermore, this rubric is also helpful in generating new questions for future exams, ensuring equitable assessments.

Embedded parallel-actuated technology for deformable space segmented mirror

The deployable segmented space imaging system is an important solution for future ultra-large aperture space optical systems. To achieve the imaging capability of an equivalent aperture monolithic mirror, it requires not only to ensure the positional accuracy in the cophasing process, but also to have extremely high surface accuracy and curvature consistency of the sub-mirrors. However, this work is extremely challenging due to the manufacturing error of the sub-mirrors and the complex space environment. Active optical technology can ensure the surface shape accuracy of the spliced mirror by controlling the mirror surface deformation and compensating for the wavefront aberration. This article compares and analyzes the control ability of two types of deformable mirrors actuated by vertical and parallel methods. We explored the characteristics of the influence function mathematical models of the two types of actuation forms and compared the aberration and curvature correction abilities of them through finite element analysis, summarizing the advantages of the parallel actuation forms. Finally, a 300mm aperture embedded parallel-actuated deformable mirror was designed and manufactured, and relevant experiments were conducted to verify its adjustment ability. By comparing and analyzing the experimental results with the design results, the adjustment ability of the embedded parallel-actuated deformable mirror was verified.

Reliability, Validity and Acceptability of the PEDI-CAT with ASD Scales for Australian Children and Youth on the Autism Spectrum.

The PEDI-CAT (ASD) is used to assess functioning of children and youth on the autism spectrum; however, current psychometric evidence is limited. This study aimed to explore the reliability, validity and acceptability of the PEDI-CAT (ASD) using a large Australian sample. Caregivers of 134 children and youth on the spectrum participated in clinical assessments involving the administration of the PEDI-CAT (ASD), Vineland-3, PEDI-CAT (Original) and a feedback instrument. The PEDI-CAT (ASD) content was compared to the ICF Core Sets for ASD to summarize areas of functioning assessed and relevance to autism. The PEDI-CAT (ASD) demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency and test-re-test reliability. Parallel forms reliability with the PEDI-CAT (Original) included significant correlations (good to excellent), however, t-tests showed significantly higher Social/Cognitive scores for the ASD version. Convergent validity results demonstrated that most PEDI-CAT (ASD) and Vineland-3 core domains were significantly correlated (poor to good). Content analysis revealed that the PEDI-CAT (ASD) covered less than half of the ICF Core Sets for ASD (mostly Activities and Participation codes). Just over half the codes assigned to the PEDI-CAT (ASD) were represented in the ICF Core Sets for ASD. Feedback on the acceptability of the measure was mixed, but overall was it was considered user-friendly and efficient. The PEDI-CAT (ASD) had adequate psychometric properties and acceptability as a measure of Activities and Participation codes. However, it lacks comprehensiveness and relevance when compared to the ICF Core Sets for ASD and has the potential to overestimate functioning.

Monte Carlo simulation studies of reliability in psychometrics

Monte Carlo simulation studies are widely used in reliability research. This study reviewed 85 published Monte Carlo simulation studies investigating reliability. The review focused on the prevalence of particular reliability estimation methods and estimators, as well as adherence to previous recommendations for the Monte Carlo simulation method. It appears researchers do not fully adhere to these recommendations. Most of the reviewed studies have limitations in at least one of the following: reporting on the data generation procedure, selection of the number of replications, selection of conditions, benchmark utilization, and performance evaluation. Findings also suggest internal consistency in general and coefficient α are the most prevalent. Conversely, some reliability estimation methods and estimators that can be useful under many empirical conditions appear to be mostly overlooked. In the case of internal consistency, these are relatively obscure forms of α, λ2, λ4, μ-series, Kristof's coefficient, Feldt-Gilmer coefficient, maximal reliability, greatest lower bound to reliability, ω family, structural equation modeling-based coefficients, and internal consistency confidence intervals. Overlooked reliability estimation methods are parallel forms, test-retest, multilevel reliability, latent class-based reliability, reliability of an individual, and Bayesian reliability. Suggestions for future research have been offered.

Electronic feedback alone vs. electronic feedback plus in-person debriefing, for a serious game designed to teach novice anesthesiology residents to perform general anesthesia for cesarean delivery: a randomized controlled trial.

EmergenCSimTM, is a novel researcher-developed serious game (SG) with an embedded scoring and feedback tool that reproduces an obstetric operating room environment. The learner must perform general anesthesia (GA) for emergent cesarean delivery (CD) for umbilical cord prolapse. The game was developed as an alternative teaching tool because of diminishing real-world exposure of anesthesiology trainees to this clinical scenario. Traditional debriefing (facilitator-guided reflection) is considered to be integral to experiential learning but requires the participation of an instructor. The optimal debriefing methods for SGs have not been well-studied. Electronic feedback is commonly provided at the conclusion of SGs, so we aimed to compare the effectiveness of learning when an in-person debrief is added to electronic feedback compared to using electronic feedback alone. We hypothesized that an in-person debriefing in addition to the SG-embedded electronic feedback will provide superior learning than electronic feedback alone. Novice 1st year anesthesiology residents (CA-1) (n=51) (i) watched a recorded lecture on GA for emergent CD, (ii) took a 26-item multiple-choice question (MCQ) pre-test, and (iii) played EmergenCSimTM (maximum score 196.5). They were randomized to either the control group which experienced the electronic feedback alone (Group EF, n=26) or the intervention group, which experienced the SG-embedded electronic feedback and an in-person debriefing (Group IPD+EF, n=25). All subjects played the SG a 2nd time, with instructions to try to increase their score, then they took a 26-item MCQ post-test. Pre-and post-tests (maximum score of 26 points each), were validated parallel forms. For Groups EF and IPD+EF respectively, mean pre-test scores were18.6 (SD 2.5) and 19.4 (SD 2.3), and mean post-test scores were 22.6 (SD 2.2) and 22.1 (SD 1.6); F=1.8, P =.19. SG scores for Groups EF and IPD+EF respectively were - mean 1st play SG scores of 135 (SE 4.4) and 141 (SE 4.5), and mean 2nd play SG scores were 163.1 (SE 2.9) and 173.3 (SE 2.9); F= 137.7, P < .001. Adding an in-person debriefing experience led to greater improvement in SG scores, emphasizing the learning benefits of this practice. Improved SG performance in both groups suggests that SGs have a role as independent, less resource-intensive educational tools. None.

Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Informant Assessment of Geriatric Delirium Scale.

<p>Delirium is a common complication developing in el&shy;der&shy;ly patients. Therefore, it is important to diagnose delirium earlier. Family caregivers&nbsp;play an active role in early diagnosis of de&shy;lirium and build a bridge between health pro&shy;fessionals and patients. The purpose of this research was to achieve the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Informant Assessment of Geriatric Delirium Scale (I-AGeD).</p>. <p>This is a methodological study. The sample comprised 125 caregivers ac&shy;cepting to participate in the study and offering care to older patients with hip fracture aged &ge;60 years. Data were gathered preoperatively and on postoperative days 0, 1 and 2. After achieving the linguistic and content validity of the scale, the known-groups comparison was used to achieve its construct validity. The ROC curve analysis was made to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the scale. Item-total correlations, item analysis based on the difference between the upper 27% and lower 27%, Kuder&ndash;Richardson 20 (KR-20) coefficient and parallel forms reliability with the NEECHAM Confusion Scale were adapted to assess discriminant indices of the items in the I-AGeD.</p>. <p>The item-total correlation coeffi&shy;cients of the scale ranged from 0.54 to 0.89 and KR-20 coefficient ranged from 0.09 to 0.91 depending on the measurement times. According to the ROC curve analysis, the sensitivity and specificity of the scale were &ge; 91% and &ge; 96% respectively. The parallel forms reliability analysis showed a highly significant, strong negative relation at each measurement between the I-AGeD and the NEECHAM Confusion Scale.&nbsp;</p>. <p>The I-AGeD is valid and reliable to diagnose delirium in older Turkish patients in perioperative processes.</p>.

The Validity and Reliability of the Postpartum Symptom Inventory in Turkish Women

Objective: Postpartum period is a significant period that covers approximately 6 weeks after childbirth, progresses with various symptoms, and affects the life of the woman. The study was conducted in order to test the validity and reliability of the Postpartum Symptom Inventory (PSI-20). &#x0D; Methods: The study was conducted on 310 participants with a descriptive, cross-sectional, and methodological design. The study data were collected through Identifying Information Form, Postpartum Symptom Inventory, and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale as a parallel form. In the analysis of the data, factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, and item-total score correlations were used. &#x0D; Results: The scale consisted of 20 items under 6 subscales with a variance of 71%. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the Turkish version of the scale was 0.86. According to split-half test reliability, Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of the first and second halves were found to be 0.71 and 0.73, respectively, Guttman split-half coefficient was 0.94, and the correlation coefficient between the halves was determined as 0.88. According to confirmatory factor analysis, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation Index (RMSEA) 0.072, Goodness of Fit index (GFI) value was 0.89, Comparative Fit Index (CFI) value was 0.94, Relative Fit Index (RFI) was 0.89, Incremental Fit Index (IFI) was 0.94, and Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) value was found as 0.93. &#x0D; Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that the Turkish version of the Postpartum Symptom Inventory (PSI-20) was a valid and reliable tool in order to measure postpartum symptoms in Turkish women.

A method of numerical modeling of acoustic fields in open areas with the possibility of parallelization of calculations is proposed. This method is part of a developed software solution that allows you to perform physical field modeling in various subject areas, being scalable in the sense of using an arbitrary set of parallel calculators. The use of existing modeling systems is associated with great difficulties in solving complex problems with a high degree of detail of the simulated object. Greater accuracy implies a high degree of discretization, a greater number of elementary model calculations performed. Parallel and distributed computing systems have a much better ratio of accuracy-approximation and time and cost costs compared to single-processor systems. Modern general purpose modeling systems use a simplified ray model of sound propagation, which neglects diffractional and interference effects, which are often critical in industrial acoustics. The article proposed a method based on the approximation of the principle of superposition of sound fields. It is accurate, while the linearity of the equations of acoustics is relevant. The basis is the Rayleigh integral and the approximation of reflective surfaces by flat point radiators. A parallel form of such a method is presented, as well as an analysis of its properties, both in sequential and parallel forms.

On the periodicity of singular vectors and the holomorphic block-circulant SVD on the unit circumference

We investigate the singular value decomposition of a rectangular matrix that is analytic on the complex unit circumference, which occurs, e.g., with the matrix of transfer functions representing a broadband multiple-input multiple-output channel. Our analysis is based on the Puiseux series expansion of the eigenvalue decomposition of analytic para-Hermitian matrices on the complex unit circumference. We study the case in which the rectangular matrix does not admit a full analytic singular value factorization, either due to partly multiplexed systems or to sign ambiguity. We show how to find an SVD factorization in the ring of Puiseux series where each singular value and the associated singular vectors present the same period and multiplexing structure, and we prove that it is always possible to find an analytic pseudo-circulant factorization, meaning that any arbitrary arrangements of multiplexed systems can be converted into a parallel form. In particular, one can show that the sign ambiguity can be overcome by allowing non-real holomorphic singular values.

Preferences in the use of overabundance: predictors of lexical bias in Estonian

Abstract This study of morphological overabundance focuses on the (non-)synonymy of parallel forms in Estonian illative case (‘into’) and the type of entrenchment behind it. We focus on the lexical level, testing whether the form preferred for a lexeme depends on semantic or morphophonological factors, or both. Using multifactorial regression analyses, we compare three corpus datasets: lexemes biased toward long forms, those biased toward short forms and lexemes with balanced form distribution. This is the first study to investigate realised overabundance in this way, and to include inflection class membership in the model, enabling us to test whether declension class subsumes the morphophonological factors found to affect form preference in previous studies. The analysis shows that cell token frequency and inflection class are significant predictors of form preference, while the lexical-semantic features included in the study do not affect formative choice, highlighting the role of cell entrenchment instead of formative entrenchment in guiding form use. In conclusion, the study highlights the important role of inflection class (morphophonology) in the general shaping of form usage patterns in parallel forms and the weak role of semantic factors on the lexical level.

The purpose this study is to examine the establishment process of Daejeong- Gwonbeon in the Imperial Japan's forced occupation period and Gwonbeon's Sijo based on Daejeong-Gwonbeon, and analyze its content and meaning. First, by exploring the change process of the Gisaeng (female entertainers) system, this study attempted to examine the characteristics of the Gisaeng system and changes in perception of Gisaeng in the Imperial Japan's forced occupation period. Next, this study tried to understand the process of Daejeong- Gwonbeon's establishment and its meaning through Sijo works based on Daejeong-Gwonbeon.&#x0D; In the Imperial Japan's forced occupation period, Gisaeng's role and perception changed after the abolition of the government-gisaeng system. Gisaeng, who was recognized as an artist with expertise, participating in Joseon dynasty national events and various banquets, was perceived as a professional woman who made her living from the craft since the Imperial Japan's forced occupation period. In this way, the change in the Gisaeng system and perception of Gisaeng was due to social changes at the time and had a great impact on Gisaeng themselves.&#x0D; In this situation of the times, Daejeong-Gwonbeon's Gisaeng tried to prove their own value as artists. Daejeong-Gwonbeon's Gisaengs tried to emphasize their aspect as artists through dance and song within the changed system. Especially as well as traditional dancing and singing, they tried to differentiate themselves from other Gwonbeons by showing their own unique performances by utilizing their various fortes.&#x0D; These characteristics of Daejeong-Gwonbeon are also clearly visible in the Sijo works included in the 『Joseon Beauty Bogam』. Sijo, created in the form of a question-and-answer dialogue, expresses the characteristics and prosperity of Daejeong-Gwonbeon through chrysanthemums and nature. The metaphors and symbols that appear in the works, as well as the question-and-answer form in parallel form, are a typical feature of Sijo, which was often used in the Joseon dynasty, which confirms that the Sijo works created based on Daejeong- Gwonbeon follow the traditional Sijo style.
