Parameter estimation and control of a fuel cell air supply system based on an improved extended state observer

ABSTRACT Tracking control of the oxygen excess ratio (OER) and keeping the cathode air pressure relatively stable are essential for the operation of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). In automotive fuel cell air supply systems, the cathode air pressure and OER are usually unmeasurable parameters, which makes the air supply system control and fault analysis very difficult. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an extended state observer based on the hyperbolic tangent function (HTF-ESO) to estimate the cathode air pressure of the fuel cell gas supply system, and indirectly obtains the OER according to the estimated cathode pressure, and designs the sliding mode control (SMC) and a first-order active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) for the tracking control of the OER. The simulation results show that the improved HTF-ESO effectively mitigates the initial differential peak phenomenon and reduces the initial estimation error of the cathode air pressure, and the RMSE of the cathode pressure and supply manifold pressure observation errors are reduced by 68% and 20%, respectively, compared with the present unimproved ESO. Compared with the PI, the RSME of the control error after convergence of the designed SMC and ADRC is reduced by 4.3%, and the OER can be restored to the reference value within 1 second, with good dynamic response.

Active control of combustion oscillation with active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) method

This research aims to develop a novel method for the active control of combustion oscillation based on active disturbance rejection control (ADRC). The effectiveness of parameter tuning and the controller in suppressing combustion oscillation was studied by simulation and experiments. The control performance was verified using a Rijke tube and turbulent premixed swirling flame within a model combustor. For the former, the results show that the first-order ADRC can rapidly mitigate the limit cycle oscillation and maintain the effectiveness of the control when the oscillation frequency changes. For the latter, a system identification method based on an acoustic network was adopted. Combining the identification results with a thermoacoustic network, the formation process of the limit cycle oscillation and the effectiveness of the first-order ADRC were simulated by SIMULINK. The experimental results show that the first-order ADRC performs better than the proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller. At the same time, the first-order ADRC and second-order ADRC achieve good outcomes when the equivalence ratio changes. However, the second-order ADRC exhibits a better pressure-suppression effect and smaller controller output voltage.

A High Performance of Induction Motor Drive System

Background: A multi-motor synchronous drive control system is widely used in many fields, such as electric vehicle drive, paper making, and printing. Methods: On the basis of the optimized structure of ADRC, a fuzzy first-order active disturbance rejection controller was developed. Double channels compensation of extended state observer was employed to estimate and compensate the total disturbances, and an approximate linearization and deterministic system was obtained. As the parameters of ADRC are adjusted online by a fuzzy controller, the performance of the controller is effectively improved. Results: Based on the SIMATIC S7-300 induction motor control experimental platform, the performances of anti-interference and tracking performance are tested. Conclusion: The actual experimental results indicated that compared with PID control, induction motor drive system controlled by fuzzy ADRC has higher dynamic and static status and following performances and stronger anti-interference abilities.

The decoupled vector-control of PMSM based on nonlinear multi-input multi-output decoupling ADRC

The Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is widely used in many fields. Aiming at nonlinearity, strong coupling and uncertainty of the PMSM, this paper proposes a nonlinear multi-input multi-output (MIMO) decoupling PMSM algorithm based on Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC). A Lower-Upper matrix factorization approach is introduced to solve a general inverse of the measured time-varying matrix in real-time decoupling ADRC. This PMSM is based on the vector control. First, the PMSM model and vector control are simulated. Then, a first-order ADRC is introduced and used to replace the PID controller in the d and q axis of PMSM respectively. The simulation shows that the replaced system has a smaller fluctuation, faster response and better stability. Finally, the nonlinear MIMO decoupling ADRC and its inverse matrix method are deduced. Then, the decoupling PMSM control based on ADRC is verified. The simulation shows that this system has a better static and dynamic performance, and it conforms to the PMSM characteristics better. All this shows that the nonlinear MIMO decoupling ADRC is a better strategy for the PMSM. The presented algorithm also has advantage in method compared with some recent results of decoupling PMSM control.

A New Three-Motor Drive System Using Fuzzy Active Disturbance Rejection Control

Three-motor synchronous drive system is a multi-input multi-output, nonlinear and strongly coupled system, which is widely used in the driving field of high precision coordinated control such as paper-making, printing, electric locomotive, etc. A mathematical model of three-motor drive system is analyzed and a new control strategy is proposed for the decoupling control of speed and tension of three-motor drive system, in which the core is fuzzy first-order active disturbance rejection controller (ADRC). Various disturbances from the outside and the inner model are observed and compensated by an extended state observer. As the parameters of the active disturbance rejection controller are adjusted online by a fuzzy controller, the performance of the controller is thus effectively improved. The anti-interference performance, decoupling performance and tracking characteristics were tested based on laboratory-developed multi-motor experimental platform. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed strategy can effectively decouple speed and tension. The system has fast dynamic response, low overshoot, high steady-state accuracy and good tracking performance.

Research on Digital Control of Tension Servo System Based on PLC

Mathematical model of tension servo system drived by two induction motor is analyzed in this paper. Then, structure optimized of first-order active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) of tension servo system is designed. Double channels compensation of extended state observer is used to estimate and compensate the total disturbance of system, and approximate linear and determined treatment is done to the tension control system. S7-300 PLC is used as lower computer controller, while WinCC is used as upper computer monitor software, realizing all-digital control of the system. The experiments is carried on based on S7-300 PLC experimental platform and the results prove that the decoupling control of speed and tension is realized, and the control system has higher dynamic, static status and robustness performances.
