Facebook likes and corporate revenue: testing the consistency between attitude and behavior

Whether a person’s attitude is predictive or consistent with their behavior is a topic that has generated much research in the literature. The current study attempts to address this research question using a big data approach in a social media advertising context. Both attitude (i.e. clicking the “like” button for a company’s Facebook posts) and behavior (i.e. purchasing products from the company) are measured in a naturalistic setting. The goal is to examine whether Facebook “likes” on companies’ posts are significantly related to those companies’ revenue. The authors estimate panel models by using nearly eight years of data containing the S&P 500 companies’ Facebook activities in conjunction with their financial performance information. The results suggest that the number of Facebook “likes” is positively associated with revenue across the models. The study concludes with specific theoretical and practical implications and limitations.

The Effect of Earning Per Share, Debt to Equity, and Return on Assets on Stock Price

This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of Earning Per Share, Debt to Equity Ratio, and Return on Assets on Stock Prices. The population in this study is as many as 77 populations. The sample used in this study were 12 samples of property and real estate sector companies. The sample selection method uses a purposive sampling technique, namely taking the sample with certain considerations with fulfilled criteria. The data collection method uses secondary data, by looking at financial performance information on property and real estate sector companies in 2016-2020. The data processing method in this study uses Eviews 12 software. The results of the research conducted using panel data regression analysis prove that Earning Per Share and Return on Assets has a positive and significant effect on stock prices. While the Debt-to-Equity Ratio has a negative and insignificant effect on stock prices.

The Effect of Financial Literacy and Financial Technology on Financial Performance (Case Study: Desa Kebun Kelapa )

This study aims to analyze the effect of Financial literacy and Financial technology on financial performance in Desa Kebun Kelapa . Financial performance information is indispensable in assessing potential changes in economic resources to predict the production capacity of available resources. Fintech is a combination of financial services and technology, which allows financial transactions without having to have a bank account, on the one hand this creates problems for Indonesian people who are not ready to accept changes in economic activity, Through Financial Literacy and Financial Technology, it can help village officials in terms of improving their village's financial performance. This research is quantitative and the research data used are primary data and skunder. The object of research in this study is the village community of coconut plantations, especially business actors and village officials. The analysis method used is quantitative with an associative approach. The results showed that Financial Literacy and Financial Technology play an important role in improving village financial performance in the form of increased operational efficiency, and efficiency enjoyed by its members, however, the application of Financial Literacy and Fianncial Technology also has its own challenges.

Non-Performing Loan and its Impact on Stock Price Index Through Return on Equity in the Banking Industry

This research aims to examine and analyze the influence of non-performing loans on the stock price index through return on equity in the banking industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The study employs secondary data from 30 banking industries obtained from ICMD (Indonesia Capital Market Directory) for the period 2016 to 2020, as well as data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Bank Indonesia, Jakarta Stock Exchange website, and Bank Indonesia. The data is analyzed using path analysis with AMOS version 7 to test the data and analyze the hypotheses. The research findings indicate the following: 1) Non-performing loans have a significant negative influence on return on equity, meaning that lower non-performing loan values in an industry lead to higher profitability levels measured by return on equity; 2) Return on equity has a significant positive influence on the stock price index, explaining that higher profits for banks, as measured by return on equity, correspond to higher stock prices as measured by the stock price index; 3) Non-performing loans have a significant negative influence on the stock price index through return on equity. This suggests that investors are more responsive to changes in non-performing loans rather than waiting for financial performance information, as measured by return on equity, to assess stock price developments.

Financial Performance Information System Using Economic Value Added Method

In the current era of globalization, information is needed in a management organization. Most companies prefer computerized information systems because they simplify performance management. The rapid development of today's technology is also very useful and supports all aspects of life, especially in managing accounting and financial information systems, becoming a financial analysis of a company as a benchmark in assessing company performance. At the place where this research was carried out, there was no financial data to measure financial management performance. Become a reference in evaluating financial reports to assess financial performance in this study. Responding to these problems, it can be formulated to design a financial performance information system by applying the web-based EVA (Economic Value Added) method to assess whether a company's financial performance measurement influences growth or decline for decision makers related to financial management. and investors and provide results to company stakeholders as an evaluation value of financial management. The end result of this research is the EVA value for the company is Rp. 4,267,398,060. And this value can be used as an evaluation of management at the research site.

Intellectual Capital dan Kinerja Keuangan Bank Pembiayaan Rakyat Syariah

This study aims to examine the effect of intellectual capital on the financial performance, consist of capital, asset quality, earning, liquidity, of Islamic Rural Banks. The data of the research is in the form of secondary data on financial performance information obtained with documentation techniques. Capital performance is measured by CAR, asset quality by NPF, earning by ROA, and liquidity by CR. The population of this study was 163 BPRS throughout Indonesia. We use the purposive-sampling technique and the sample obtained is 26 BPRS in Central Java. The number of sample data is 69 data, for the period 2018-2020. We use the Partial Least Square method in processing data with the help of SmartPLS 3. This study results that intellectual capital affects financial performance (capital, asset quality, and earning), except for liquidity performance.

NPO Web-Based Accountability: How Can We Know If NPOs Are Doing Good Things?

This study develops a comprehensive but practical framework for not-for-profit organization (NPO) web-based accountability involving (a) disclosure of operations, financial performance, and social performance, and (b) dialogue; and investigates it in the practices of five Australian NPO award finalists and 160 NPOs more broadly. The findings highlight NPOs’ web-based accountability focused on operational disclosure, promoting NPOs’ activities and mission. However, financial and social performance disclosure was lacking, despite financial performance information being publicly available on the government regulator’s website. Furthermore, the use of online platforms to promote dialogue and exchange was limited. The study suggests that regulatory requirements play an important role in strengthening NPOs’ accountability, and the lack of social performance reporting means it is still unclear what “good things” NPOs are doing.

The provincial government of East java made a downstream upstream program for famers in order to increase agricultural productivity. This program uses funds from Bank Jatim with a mild interest rate and a longer grace period. Gabungan Kelompok Tani (Gapoktan) Pojokkulon Ds Kesamben Kabupaten Jombang are farmers who get the assistance of this upstream downstream program. The creditor, Bank Jatim, will need financial performance information from Gapoktan in order to gain confidence that the Gapoktan can return loans according to the agreed schedule. The creditor so far the Gapoktan parties have not been able to provide financial information because they have not been able to prepare financial reports in accordance with financial accounting standards. Therefore, together with Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), held Financial Management training activities to Gapoktan Pojokkulon. The training is devoted to recording and compiling financial reports in accordance with standards. The method used in thia activity is a preliminary survey, financial management training and implementation and evaluation. The result of this dedication activity is to be able to increase the knowledge of trainees in recording financial transactions, being able to know the process of preparing financial statements, knowing the types of financial reports in accordance with the financial accounting standard of micro, small, and medium entities, and knoeing the calculation of sales expenses.

Financial Performance Information and Voters’ Behaviorfor the Re-election of Incumbent Regional Heads

The aim of the research is to examine the extent to which performance information influences the voters’ behavior in the re-election of the ruling regional head. Based on information content theory and Rational Choice Theory empirically in analyzing the incumbent re-election relationship as the dependent variable, and financial performance variables consisting of financial independence, the level of budget absorption, and the ratio of debt to income.This research used quantitative research method with secondary data sources from 215 incumbents. Sample selection was purposive sampling. Data were analyzed by multiple linear analysis.Empirical results indicated that financial performance information on financial independence and budget absorption rates had a positive effect on re-election incumbent, the debt ratio had no effect. The results of this study were important because they can be a reference for incumbents to determine policies, for voters can be used as a basis for assessing the incumbent's performance before making a choice.

Can Employee Training Influence Local Fiscal Outcomes?

Employee training is often viewed as essential for incorporating performance management practices into public organizations, but few studies directly link training programs to subsequent changes in organizational outcomes. Typically, evaluations of the impact of training and management innovations more broadly focuses narrowly on improvements at the mean of the distribution, ignoring isomorphic pressures that may spur divergent responses at opposite tails of the distribution. We examine these notions by testing whether training local government personnel on the use of financial performance information in decision-making influences fiscal outcomes. Specifically, we compare the outcomes of North Carolina local governments whose employees participated in training on a new fiscal benchmarking tool at the University of North Carolina School of Government to peer governments that did not participate. Municipal governments with at least one trained employee experienced modest changes, on average, across most of the financial ratios reported in the benchmarking tool. By comparison, the dispersion of the reported outcomes declined considerably among municipal governments whose employees participated in training in comparison to control governments. The strength of this response increased with the number of public officials trained. The results indicate that employee training can facilitate the use of performance benchmarking systems in public sector decision-making. They also suggest that benchmarking without explicit performance targets may encourage convergence toward the average outcome.

The Impact of Vivid Graphical Presentation of Financial Information in Digital Annual Reports on Investors' Impressions of Management and Firm Performance

ABSTRACTThis study examines the effect of graphical vividness on nonprofessional investors' impressions of management and firm performance when the financial performance news is either positive or negative. Conducting a 2 × 2 between-participants experiment with 470 participants from Amazon Mechanical Turk (M-Turk), I find that when the news is positive, nonprofessional investors have more positive impressions of management, which, in turn, leads to more positive impressions of firm performance when the graphical presentation is vivid versus pallid. In contrast, when the news is negative, presenting graphs vividly has little effect on nonprofessional investors' impressions. The study contributes to regulators and practice by demonstrating that allowing a high degree of presentation flexibility in digital annual reports has behavioral outcomes to nonprofessional investors' judgments and decisions. The study also contributes to the strategic disclosure literature by demonstrating the impact of graphical vividness in presenting financial performance information.

Responsibility and Performance Relationship in the Banking Industry

We study the relationship between financial performance and responsibility in the banking industry. Given the wide diversity in business models and operations, this relationship needs to be studied at the level of specific industries. We contribute to the debate about financial and social performance in the banking industry by using highly detailed responsibility and financial performance information, which helps to understand why this relationship exists and how the relationship evolves over time. We rely on a diverse international sample for the period 2002–2015 and use a wide range of financial performance measures next to various specific indicators for corporate governance, environmental, and social performance. By using simultaneous equation system estimations to address the causality between financial performance and responsibility, we find that the Tier-1 capital adequacy ratio is significantly and positively associated with responsibility indicators. As such, stronger institutions appear to be able to act in a more responsible manner and such responsibility signals banks’ health. We also establish that the global financial crisis did have a profound impact on the finance-responsibility nexus. We show that there are changes in the underlying relationships in this nexus during the post-crisis period compared to the pre-crisis period. Furthermore, such changes are different between countries with high and low income, civil and common law, single and multiple supervision authorities, and central bank and non-central bank supervision.

Financial and Non-Financial Disclosure Practices in Selected Awqaf Institutions

It is undeniable fact that waqf becomes as one of tools used in order to alleviate inequality among people especially Muslim community. Basically, waqf fund is raised from the public and managed by mutawalli under waqf institution. As the intermediate party between waqif and beneficiaries, waqf institution is accountable for the management of waqf funds and need to disclose sufficient information pertaining to waqf fund itself. Good disclosure practices by waqf institution should cover both financial and non-financial information for all related waqf activities, programs and projects conducted. This includes such as corporate information, strategic information, financial performance information, financial statement information and non-financial performance information. To examine such disclosure practices, intensive content analysis was employed on waqf reporting information which is waqf annual report from three selected awqaf institutions namely, Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor (PWS), Pusat Wakaf MAIWP Sdn Bhd (PWM) and Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS). The results revealed that financial statement information was the highest disclosure practice by selected awqaf institutions when it scores 100% (385 out of 385 items), followed closely by strategic information 68.9% (62 out of 90 items), financial performance information 66.7% (80 out of 120 items), corporate information 61.7% (74 out of 120 items) and finally by non-financial performance information 37.5% (45 out of 120 items). Besides, several interesting and advanced disclosure practice by MUIS also highlighted and discussed as a benchmark for other awqaf institutions to disclose their waqf activities, programs and projects in the future.

Review of Financial Performance analysis of Corporate Organizations

The work expatiated on the concept of financial performance and its analysis. It also captured relevant stakeholders for financial performance information. The review sought to encapsulate the existing state of knowledge on financial performance evaluations from previously published works. It also highlighted gaps in the reviewed literatures. Two dimensions of existing literature were explored; namely financial performance of companies, regardless of the location or industry, as well as those specific to companies in Ghana and particularly to the telecommunications sector. Of all the existing works reviewed, 54 percent captured literature in the first category described above and the remaining 46 percent was on the second category. It was revealed after the review, that three different methodologies or approaches were adopted in evaluating financial performance of firms. The first approach employed the use of financial ratios either overtime within firm, or between different firms for comparative analysis. Another strand of the surveyed works examined the impacts of selected indicators like capital structure and operational practices like Just-In-Time (JIT) systems on financial performance. A third approach employed metrics from internal key performance indicators to examine a firm's financial performance. It was ascertained that majority of existing literatures in the field and on the topic deployed the first two approaches.

Performance Measurement Information, Job Rotation, Role Stress, and Performance: An Investigation οf Local Government

Budgets in the public sector, especially in local government becomes the starting point for local governments to implement public service. Many strategic decisions relating to the budget that must be taken by public manager for future service improvements. This study raised the issue that the quality of public manager strategic decisions require performance measurement information and role stress in local government. Therefore, the performance of public managers associated with budgeting evaluated in this study. The study was conducted by using experimental methods to obtain evidence of a causal relationship between performance measurement information, job rotation, role stress, and performance of public managers. This study used a Multivariate Analysis of Variance and path analysis as an data analysis. The results showed that lower role ambiguity on public manager who received non-financial and financial performance information than public manager who received non-financial performance information only. Public manager performance was significantly higher at the time experience low role ambiguity. These results support the role theory and contingency theory. However, no evidence was obtained that public managers who received non-financial and financial performance measurement information experience role conflict is lower than the official who received the non-financial performance measurement information or financial information alone. Similarly, about the job rotation. This study did not obtain evidence that role ambiguity and role conflict were lower in the job rotation with high frequency. The results also indicate that role ambiguity is fully mediate the effects of performance measurement information on the performance of local government public managers. However, no evidence was obtained that role conflict mediates the influence of performance measurement information on the performance of public managers. Other results showed that role ambiguity and role conflict did not mediate the association with the job rotation and performance. Impact of Value Relevance of Financial Performance Information and Corporate Governance on Capital Structure : Evidence from Egyptian Manufacturing Firms

This research empirically investigates the impact of value relevance of financial accounting based performance information, stock valuation and corporate governance on capital structure choice in Egypt listed manufacturing firms. Multiple regression analysis is used to examine the association between leverage level and research independent variables for a sample of 52 Egyptian listed manufacturing firms from 2006-2010. The results show that capital structure choice has a weak-to-no relation to firm's performance and corporate governance. Findings show that the value relevance of organizational performance and corporate governance both have insignificant interactive influence on the capital structure. The results shows that profitability and operational performance has a negative insignificant relationship with capital structure, while liquidity and stock valuation has a positive relationship with firm financial leverage, price/earning has significant impact to the capital structure.

Franchise performance information including potential sales, income, or profits is very important for both prospective franchisees and franchisors. Prospective franchisees want financial performance information when deciding whether or not to purchase a particular franchise. Franchisors use financial performance information as a powerful selling tool for recruiting prospective franchisees who need for information about the possible financial results of their investment. Financial performance representations(FPR) that state fraudulent or exaggerated information result in franchisees’ loss of their investments. In Korea, the number of disputes in which franchisees ask for contract termination due to the franchisor’s provision of fraudulent or exaggerated information has increased continuously during the past decade. For this reason, the Korea Fair Trade Commission(KFTC) recently prohibited the use of those deceptive and misleading practices conducted by the franchisors. The Franchise Transaction Law amended on August 2013 requires Korean franchisors with more than 100 franchisees or franchisors who are not classified as small and medium companies to provide prospective or current franchisees with the Sales Projection Document(SPD). Most franchisors and their representatives such as Korea Franchise Association are reluctant to comply with the Amended Law whereas franchisees and civil right groups are welcoming it. This study addresses the problems of KFTC’s current regulations on financial performance representations including mandatory provision of SPD, a form of FPR. For this, the authors review the history of FTC Franchise Rule regulations on FPR and contrast the opposing arguments related to the mandatory disclosure of FPR. The debate concerning the mandatory disclosure of FPR falls into one fundamental issue: Should the franchisor make a financial performance representation or should the prospective franchisee gather relevant information for their own success. With respect to the adequacy of the mandatory disclosure of FPR, this study also discusses the franchisor‘s use of integration clauses. The FTC Rule prohibits franchisors from disclaiming liability for statements authorized by franchisors in their disclosure documents. By prohibiting this practice, FTC preserves the integrity of the material information in the disclosure document, thus preventing deception. It is still controversial whether franchisors can use an integration clause that purports to disclaim their legal responsibilities. Reviewing the benefits and the costs of mandatory disclosure of FPR and the judicial decisions regarding the franchisor’s use of integration clause, the authors suggest several directions for further development in governmental regulations on FPR. These suggestions would contribute to the development of fair and undeceptive practices in franchise industry by enhancing the reasonableness of the current regulation on FPR and by lessening the franchisors’ reluctance to comply with the law.
