Potensi dan Permasalahan Dalam Pengembangan Seni Kerajinan Tiohu (Mendong) Gorontalo

Tiohu craft (Fimbristylis globulosa) in Gorontalo has the opportunity to be developed into a creative industry, but in fact the craft just can survive without having significant development. The lack of development on the craft is assumed due to a problem hindering, while its survivability up to now is expected due to the potential that support it. This study aims to analyze the potential and problems in the development of tiohu crafts in Gorontalo. This study employs a qualitative research method with a case study model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and literature review. Data were analyzed interactively through data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The results showed that the Gorontalo tiohu craft has the potential to be developed but there are problems that hindering. These potentials and problems are revealed from the basic aspects of the craft, namely: the condition of craftspeople, production technology, product form and function, and distribution or marketing. These aspects are interrelated and have a direct influence on the sustainability and direction of its development, therefore it can be used as a basis in formulating strategies on developing Gorontalo tiohu craft in the future or other similar crafts

Antioxidant and GC-MS Analysis of Cyperus iria, Fimbristyis miliacea, and Fimbristylis globulosa

Cyperaceae family had been commonly found in rice field areas. This family consists of 3000 species and 220 of them were classified as weeds. The presence of secondary metabolites demonstrates that this family of weeds, despite being one of the most invasive species in the world, is capable of a variety of biological functions. In this study, the antioxidant analysis and potentially chemical compunds were identified on three weeds in Cyperaceae family: Cyperus iria, Fimbristylis miliacea, and Fimbristylis globulosa. The GC-MS analysis of methanol extract of the three species showed 25, 11, and 9 compounds respectively. This study focuses on the non-polar extraction. The methanol extracts of these three species were screened for antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity was determined using DPPH test. IC50 values for the extracts are 309.07 μg/ml (C. iria), 250.67 μg/ml (F. miliaea), and 623.82 μg/ml (F. globulosa).

The greatness of the characteristics fiber pseudo stem outer layer of Musa acuminata origin lombok Indonesia as reinforcing polyester composite

Musa acuminata stem is an agricultural waste that has good economic potential. For this reason, efforts are needed to increase the saba banana tree not only as waste, but also to increase its function into natural fiber raw materials for polyester matrix composite reinforcement. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of Musa acuminata stem fibre (MASF) from North Lombok Regency, Indonesia Country as a reinforcement for polyester matrix composites. In this study, the fiber (specimen), taken from pseudo stem Musa acuminata, which consists of three layers: outer, middle and inner stem. The ratting process is done mechanically using a fiber extraction machine. To remove impurities in the fiber, alkaline treatment was carried out, by soaking for 24 hours in a 5 % NaOH solution. To determine the characteristics, a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) test was carried out for MASF morphology analysis, chemical compound content testing, heat resistance testing, and fiber tensile strength testing. The results showed that the MASF of the outer layer pseudo-stem has a strong character. Fiber morphology is different, between the outer, middle and inner layers pseudo-stems. The cellulose content (73.12 %) was higher than the fiber of Fimbristylis globulosa, hemp, jute, rice straw, wheat straw, seaweed, sorghum straw, coir, and alpha grass. Less resistant to heat degradation because mass loss occurs at a constant rate up to 245 °C. The highest MASF, in the outer pseudo-stem layer it is 40–50 cm from the base stem. Its characteristics are better than other natural fibers so that its potential can be further developed as a reinforcement for polymer matrix composites

ERGONOMIC DESIGN OF THE CUTTING MACHINE FOR CHOPPING CYPERACEAE PLANT

The manual cutting is still applied in the Small and Medium Industries (SMI) especially in cutting the Cyperaceae plant. One of the varieties is “Fimbristylis Globulosa (Mendong)”. This plant is used as a raw material to manufacture the handicraft. The process is commenced with chopping the plant by using a manual tool. However, the existing tool still causes some complains where 90% of users experienced discomfort and unsafe in the use. The tool is also not effective and efficient for cutting. Thus, it is significant to improve the better cutting tools. This objective of this study is to design the innovative and ergonomic cutting tools for satisfying user requirements. The survey was done to identify some discomfort. The participatory ergonomic method is applied to determine the specification of design on basis anthropometry data of users. Non-parametric statistical analysis is conducted to test the hypothesis. The results of this study show that the developed design is a valid to reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders and more comfort and safer at 5% of the significant levels where the proposed design specification used electric motor system and pneumatic system.

Mitigasi Dan Arahan Pengelolaan Air Asam Tambang Melalui Hutan Rawa Buatan Di Lahan Pasca Tambang

The application of remote sensing using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology to identify distribution of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) as part of mitigation process has been done in PT. Jorong Barutama Greston. UAV imagery was interpreted visually to produce land cover map. Bare land area from land cover map is used as the boundary of the analysis area for the mitigation of AMD source. Color of soil in UAV images is used as training area for supervised classification to differentiate different pH. The result shows distribution of soil with pH between 2-3 is 1.2 ha, pH 3-4 is 4.5 ha, and pH 4-5 is 9 ha. This analysis can show that mapping results using aerial photo is effective to identify pH of soil in bare land as a source of acid to water in void and it used as input for revegetation and swamp forest planning as bio-phytoremediation efforts. Swamp forest as a wetland is one recomendation for sustainable water management on mine to increase pH and reduce heavy metal content. The success of constructed swamp forest as passive treatment for bio-phytoremediation is determined by the selection of plant species, site location, design and construction of swamp forest and maintenance. Typha latifolia, Salvinia sp., Fimbristylis globulosa, Chrysopogon zizanioides, Melaleuca leucadendra, Melaleuca cajuputi, Nauclea subdita and Nauclea orientalis L. are recom-mended as local selected plants for phytoremediation. Obtained six variables that significantly affected to determination of site location for constructed swamp forest are elevation (T), slope (S), land cover (L), cathment area (C), distance from channel (K) and distance from the monitoring pool (P). The model X = 0.2T + 0.2S + 0.1L + 0.15C + 0.3K + 0.05P applied to find very suit-able area with α = 0.05 and the R-square (R2) value 93.4%.

Remediation of Chromium Contaminated Soil by Phyto-Bio System (PBS) Application

Chromium polluted water was increased as the result of the growth of the industries, due to their industrial waste were most likely contain heavy metals, especially textile industrial waste that was discarded to the rivers. This research aimed to study the removal of chromium levels in soil used the symbiosis between plant and bacteria. Soil sample contained with 4.33 mg kg<sup>-1</sup> and the irrigation water sample contained with 1.09 mg l<sup>-1</sup> of total chromium. This research design was factorial with Randomized Complete Block Design as the based design There were 3 factors in this study: 1. inorganic fertilizer (P): P0: without inorganic fertilizer, P1: with inorganic fertilizer; 2. chelator (B):B0: without chelator, B1: with chelator <em>Rhizobium sp I<sub>3</sub></em>, B2: with chelator manure; 3. Plant (T): T0 without plant, T1: with plant. Data were analyzed by statistical analysis using ANOVA continued by T-test or Duncan Multiple Range test and correlation test. The result showed that the remediation process reduced chromium levels in soil with the removal effectivity up to 71.90% on the treatment combination of NPK fertilizer+manure+plant while removal effectivity on plant-only treatment was 55.66%. The chromium levels in <em>Fimbristylis globulosa</em> were in the range from 1.82–3.15 μ g<sup>-1</sup>, it indicated that <em>Fimbristylis globulosa</em> was a feasible plant for bioremediation. <em>Fimbristylis globulosa</em> grew well and has the ability to absorb chromium, especially by combining it with <em>Rhizobium sp I<sub>3</sub></em>and the chromium uptake in roots was higher than shoots.

Pulsed Electric Field Assisted Extraction of Cellulose From Mendong Fiber (Fimbristylis globulosa) and its Characterization

ABSTRACTIn the present work, the properties of cellulose extracted from mendong fiber have been investigated. The experiments were conducted by two different methods to extract the cellulose from mendong fiber, which is extracted by alkali and alkali assisted by PEF. The cellulose was analyzed using X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Infra Red, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and compared with cellulose of commercial product. The morphology of cellulose after extraction was observed using both optical and Scanning Electron Microscope. The crystalline structure properties of cellulose extracted from mendong fiber assisted by pulsed electric field (PEF) were similar to the commercial cellulose.

The Effect of Soil Moisture Content and Animal Manure Application on the Growth of Mendong (Fimbristylis globulosa (Retz.) Kunt)

The objective of the research was to study the interaction between soil moisture content and animal manure application on the growth of Mendong (Fimbristylis globulosa (Retz.) Kunt). The experiment was conducted in May until September 2016 in Kampung Lembur Sawah, Kamulyan Village, Manonjaya Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya Regency. A pot experiment was performed using a factorial design consisting of two factors and three replicates. The factors were soil moisture content (K) consisting of four levels i.e. k1 (100% field capacity (FC)), k2 (150% FC), k3 (200% FC), and k4 (250% FC); and animal manure application (P) consisting of p1 (cattle manure), p2 (broiler chicken manure), and p3 (sheep manure). The indicators of plant growth, i.e. plant height, number of tiller, fresh weight and dry weight of plant biomass, shoot/root ratio, percentage of the >75cm-long stems, water consumption, and water use efficiency (WUE) were measured. The results showed that there was an interaction effect between the soil moisture content and animal manure application on the number of tiller at 45 days after planting (DAP), the percentage of the >75 cm-long stems, and the water consumption. The sheep manure application at any levels of soil moisture content resulted in better effect on the growth of Mendong, water use efficiency, and quality of stem (the percentage of the >75cm-long stems). The soil moisture content above the field capacity resulted in better effect on the growth of Mendong, indicating that Mendong is more suitable to grow on the land with the soil moisture content above the field capacity or saturated soil during the whole growing period. Comparison of Mathematical Equation and Neural Network Modeling for Drying Kinetic of Mendong in Microwave Oven

Mendong (Fimbristylis globulosa) has a potentially industrial application. We investigate a predictive model for heat and mass transfer in drying kinetics during drying a Mendong. We experimentally dry the Mendong by using a microwave oven. In this study, we analyze three mathematical equations and feed forward neural network (FNN) with back propagation to describe the drying behavior of Mendong. Our results show that the experimental data and the artificial neural network model has a good agreement and better than a mathematical equation approach. The best FNN for the prediction is 3-20-1-1 structure with Levenberg- Marquardt training function. This drying kinetics modeling is potentially applied to determine the optimal parameters during mendong drying and to estimate and control of drying process.

Assessing the Effects of Aquatic Vegetation Composition on Waterbird Distribution and Richness in Natural Freshwater Lake of Malaysia

Aquatic vegetation structure and composition is a major driven factor which plays a significant role in waterbird foraging sites and habitat selection. Assessing the effects of aquatic vegetation composition on the distribution and richness of waterbird in a freshwater lake is a useful tool to understand the habitat requirement and preference of waterbird species for future better conservation and management. A total of 19 aquatic plants was recorded in the Paya Indah lake using 10 X 10 m quadrant method. Eleocharis variegata (13.0%), E. dulcis (12.0%), Scirpus mucronatus (11.0%), and Fimbristylis globulosa (10.0%) were the most dominant aquatic plants which cover around 46.0% of the lake area. Likewise, a total of 1492 bird individuals represnting 24 waterbird species and 8 families was recorded through direct observation using 10X50 binocular. Porphyrio porphyrio (17.02%), Amaurornis phoenicurus (15.82%), and Ardea purpurea (8.31%) were three most common waterbird species in the study area. In contrast, three waterbird species, namely Hydrophasianus chirurgus (0.8%), Tachybaptus ruficollis (0.6%), and Gallirallus striatus (0.54%) were the rarest i.e., recorded only a few individuals. Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient test illustrated that aquatic vegetation species have strong positive correlationship (i.e., r = 0.9259, P > 0.05) with waterbird species distribution and richness in the lake area. This showed that higher waterbird richness could be due to the diversity of aquatic vegetation species composition. Overall, the finding of this study highlighted that Paya Indah Lake is rich in aquatic vegetation structure and composition that had attracted a wide array of waterbird to perform various activities such as food, water, habitat and reproduce.

Plants Growth Rate in Evapotranspiration continuous system reactors as the 2nd Treatment at Anaerobic-evapotranspiration system with High Strength Ammonium in Leachate Influent

Ammonium is one of parameter which responsible to leachate toxicity. Preliminary research was shown that the Fimbristylis globulosa (water plant) , Alocasia macrorrhiza (terrestrial plant) and Eleusine indic a ( terrestrial grass) were potential plants for used as object in evaporation reactor system with high strength ammonium concentration in leachate treatment. This research was integrated of anaerobic system with evapotranspiration system with continuous influent using ammonium concentration in leachate was 2000 mg/l NH 4 -N. Plants growth rate was analyzed for 25 days operated. The result shown that average of thallus growth rate of Fimbristylis globulosa was 17,5 cm d -1 . The average of leaf and thallus growth rate of Alocasia macrorrhiza was 18,1 cm d -1 and 3,2 cm d -1 respectively. The average of blade and thallus of Eleusine indica were same that was 4,7 cm d -1 . This research conclude that integration system of anaerobic and evpotranspiration was be potential used for high strength ammonium in leachate treatment.

Morphology, Structure, and Mechanical Properties of Natural Cellulose Fiber from Mendong Grass (Fimbristylis globulosa)

This study was to investigate the morphology, structure, and chemical properties of the Mendong fibers extracted from Mendong grass (Fimbristylis globulosa) in the form of raw and treated fiber by alkali-included chemical content and functional group and to evaluate the strength and properties of Mendong fibers compared with other natural fibers. These studies explore the chemical properties of the fiber including fiber composition and functional group by FTIR, mechanical properties of fiber, and the structural and morphological analysis of the fiber using SEM and XRD. The results showed that the chemical contents of Mendong fibers were 72.14% cellulose, 20.2% hemicellulose, 3.44% lignin, 4.2% extractive, and moisture of 4.2%–5.2%. Mechanical properties of the fiber were a strong character with tensile strength of 452 MPa, and modulus of 17 GPa. The structural properties of Mendong fiber such as crystallinity, crystalline index, microfibril angle, and crystalline size were 70.17% and 58.6%, 22.9°, and 14.3 nm, respectively. This fiber has competitive advantages compared with other natural fibers and can be developed further as a potential reinforcement of polymer matrix composites.

Control of Microcystis spp . Bloom By Combination of Indigenous Denitrifying Bacteria From Sutami Reservoir With Fimbristylis globulosa and Vetiveria zizanoides

The purpose of this research were to know the ability of polyculture macrophyte (Fimbristylis globulosa and Vetiveria zizanoides) and combination of both with consortium of indigenous denitrifying bacteria from Sutami reservoir that added by Microcystis spp. or not to reduce the concentration of nitrate, dissolved phosphate and the carrying capacity of Microcystis spp. Experiment was done in medium of Sutami reservoir water enriched with 16 ppm of nitrate and 0,4 ppm of phosphate. Denitrifying bacteria were used in this research were DR-14, DU-27-1, DU-30-1, DU-30-2, TA-8 and DU-27-4 isolated from Sutami reservoir. The treatments were incubated during 15 days. Microcystis spp. abundance was calculated every day, but measurement of the the concentration of nitrate and dissolved phosphate were done every six days. The results showed that both treatment and a combination of both macrophytes with a consortium of denitrifying indigenous bacteria were added or not either Microcystis able to reduce nitrate at 99% and 93-99% orthophosphoric. Combination of macrophytes with denitrifying indigenous bacterial consortium from Sutami reservoir was able to inhibit the carrying capacity of Microcystis spp. highest until 47.87%. They can also significantly reduce the abundance of Microcystis from 10 7 cells/mL in early of treatment to become 0.35x10 4 cells/mL after fifteen days incubation.
