Film condensation of vapor from dusty vapor–gas mixtures is studied theoretically and experimentally. The effect of dust particles on the film flow in the initial region and on the intensity of heat and mass transfer is demonstrated.

Ultrasonic monitoring of film condensation for applications in reduced gravity

The film condensation of vapor on a cooled, downward-facing surface is a complex dynamic fluid phenomenon. This paper will describe the theoretical basis, instrumentation approach, and experimental results for a method for ultrasonic monitoring of film condensation. The ultrasound measurement system utilizes a 10 MHz broadband contact transducer, operating in pulse–echo mode. By appropriate signal processing, condensation layers over a wide thickness range, from much less than a wavelength to several wavelengths, can readily be measured.

Analysis of the film condensation process of vapor on a vertical finely serrated surface

The process of film condensation of vapor on vertical finely serrated surfaces is investigated. The analysis shows that owing to the specific conditions under which the distribution of the condensed film along the cooling surface is in the main affected by surface tension, the effectiveness of such surfaces may be several times higher than that of plain tubes.

Film condensation of vapor on horizontal corrugated tubes

The film condensation of vapor on a horizontal tube with trapezoidal fins is calculated analytically for the case where surface tension is predominant. Experimental results for water and Freon-113 vapors are also shown.
