The female gaze continues to be a frequently explored and discussed concept, and most writers agree that it hasn’t been clearly defined in academic literature yet. This study aims to contribute to the definition of the female gaze by investigating the possibility of existence and construction of female gaze in cinema. For this purpose, the article focuses on examining the female gaze in Clair Obscur (Tereddüt, 2016), directed by Yeşim Ustaoğlu within the past decade. The methodology used for the research is textual film analysis. According to the findings, the film prioritizes the female characters' looks, perspectives, feelings, and thoughts, namely their subjectivities and gazes, through different cinematography, editing and mise-en-scène instruments. The film differentiates from mainstream cinema codes through its thematic narrative. Considering all these features along with other studies in this field, the existence and construction of female gaze in the cinema of women directors can be mentioned.
