The role of occupational therapy serving LGBTQIA+ people: Retrospective perceptions of an occupational therapist

Introduction and aim: LGBTQIA+ people constitute a minority group that navigate their occupational engagement within a historically entrenched system of oppression. This opinion piece addresses a subject matter that is increasingly garnering attention from the international health science community, yet it remains insufficiently explored in South African occupational therapy dialogues. The aim of this paper is to stimulate critical reflection among occupational therapists on the discourses that underpin our daily practice. By utilising the person- environment-occupation model, we seek to demonstrate the unique and essential role of occupational therapy in serving LGBTQIA+ people within the South African context.
 Conclusion: Although occupational therapists are trained to consider all aspects of a person, discussions around gender are rarely emphasised in undergraduate training or clinical practice. This opinion piece demonstrates the roles that occupational therapists may play when working with LGBTQIA+ people to provide services that are holistic and relevant to their needs and contexts. Recognizing the impact of everyday occupational therapy practices on LGBTQIA+ individuals is crucial, requiring a commitment to inclusivity and continuous reflection within the field of occupational therapy.
 Implications for practice
 Occupational therapists can play an important role in serving LGBTQIA+ individuals when they are committed to recognizing how dominant discourses about this group can be sustained through the everyday practices of delivering occupational therapy.

Effectiveness and Feasibility of virtual international exchange program for occupational therapy students to develop the international perspective and professional skills -Mix-method study

Background: Virtual international exchange programs have been promoted; however, the effectiveness of the programs has not yet been examined well in the field of occupational therapy (OT) field. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness and feasibility of a virtual international exchange program for OT students.Methods: Mix-method was applied in this study.Two universities from Japan and Indonesia created an exchange program to cultivate international perspectives and facilitate gaining OT professional knowledge and skills, as well as learning basic scientific study skills. Questionnaires on international minded and program evaluations, which were analyzed by descriptive analysis, were given to the participants before and after the program. Focus group interviews, which were analyzed with reflective thematic analysis, were conducted after the program.Results: Ten students joined the program, six students answered the questionnaires, and eight students participated in the focus group interviews. Students were satisfied with the program overall, even though there were no significant changes in the total scores of the international minded between before and after the program. In the focus group interviews, the participants mentioned their motivations for participating in the program, program evaluation, international minded, and self-growing awareness. The participants expressed that they gained OT professional knowledge and academic skills from the program.Conclusion: As a feasible virtual program, well-organized programs considering the students’ academic learning skills and interests could provide opportunities for individual development, acquiring professional knowledge, and incite self-growing. In addition, the result might show the effectiveness of virtual programs to cultivate international perspective and professional knowledge.

Effectiveness of sensory integration therapy in children, focusing on Korean children: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sensory integration intervention is highly related to the child's effective interaction with the environment and the child's development. Currently, various sensory integration interventions are being applied, but research methodological problems are arising due to unsystematic protocols. This study aims to present the optimal intervention protocol by presenting scientific standards for sensory integration intervention through meta-analysis. To prove the effectiveness of sensory integration therapy, examine the latest trend of sensory integration studies in Korea, and provide clinical evidence for sensory integration therapies. The database of Korean search engines, including RISS, KISS, and DBpia, was used to search for related literature published from 2001 to October 2020. The keywords, "Children", "Sensory integration", "Integrated sensory", "Sensory-motor", and "Sensory stimulation" were used in this search. Then, a meta-analysis was conducted on 24 selected studiesRISS, KISS, and DBpia, was used to search for related literature published from 2001 to October 2020. Sensory integration intervention has been proven effective in children with cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, developmental disorder, and intellectual disability in relation to the diagnosis of children. Regarding sensory integration therapies, 1:1 individual treatment with a therapist or a therapy session lasting for 40 min was most effective. In terms of dependent variables, sensory integration therapy effectively promoted social skills, adaptive behavior, sensory processing, and gross motor and fine motor skills. The results of this study may be used as therapeutic evidence for sensory integration intervention in the clinical field of occupational therapy for children, and can help to present standards for sensory integration intervention protocols.

INVESTIGATION OF CAREGIVER BURDEN AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INTERVENTION IN DISABLED INDIVIDUALS IN COVID 19 TERM

Objective It was conducted to determine the factors affecting the occupational therapy training and the care burden of parents in individuals who were to learn in the Covid 19. Methods: The study sample consisted of individuals whose average age was 23.27 ±311.77 years in a private education institution in Ankara. Caregiver burden of parents was evaluated with Zarit Caregiver Scale (ZCS). Activity performance and satisfaction levels of the individuals were evaluated with the Canadian Activity Performance Measurement (COPM). The intervention was applied for 12 weeks. Results It was determined that 44.4 % of the caregivers had a moderate care burden. A statistically significant difference was obtained when comparing the ZCB before and after COVID-19 (p=0.006). A statistically significant decrease was found in the number of activities during the COVID 19 period (p=0.000, t=4.89). Conclusions: Occupational therapy intervention resulted in improvement in the activity performance of individuals. It is necessary to plan more studies that include evaluation and intervention approaches in the fields of activity performance and satisfaction in the field of occupational therapy.

Abstract Introduction Since 2005, Brazilian cities have been adapting to organize teams and services of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS), and since 2011, occupational therapy has been recognized as one of the professions that compose these teams and the management of SUAS. This study addresses how the category has been involved in this policy in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Objective To map the occupational therapists working at SUAS in this state and outline the characteristics of this inclusion. Methodology A descriptive, cross-sectional mapping study, using official data from the SUAS Census. Data were analyzed from a descriptive perspective, in dialogue with the National Social Assistance/Welfare Policy, the literature in the field of occupational therapy in social assistance, and under the framework of social occupational therapy. Results In the State of Rio de Janeiro, 142 occupational therapists work at SUAS, which is equivalent to 8.9% of the professionals in this state. This workforce is composed of women (89.4%) aged 41-50 years (34.5%), hired by Civil Society Organizations (93%), under the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) regime (50%), with a weekly workload of 11-20 hours (40.9%), mainly inserted in Day Centers (71%), working with people with disabilities and older people. Conclusion The inclusion of occupational therapists in SUAS of Rio de Janeiro state occurs precariously, with low insertion in this state’s devices. It highlights the need for representative entities of the class to act in this public policy as a promoter of expanding job opportunities/public contests/employment, as well as to invest in debates about team compositions and the recognition of different fields of knowledge.

A contribuição de terapeutas ocupacionais no domínio da gestão de risco e desastres: um protocolo de revisão de escopo

Abstract Introduction Disasters bring human, socioeconomic, and environmental consequences and exacerbate situations of vulnerability. Both highly industrialized core countries and those facing economic difficulties are subject to these events. In Brazil, the COVID-19 pandemic and the collapse of dams highlight difficulties in anticipating and responding to these types of events. Actions of occupational therapy in the field of emergencies and disasters are scarce in the literature, notably in the sphere of prevention. Objective To explore the evidence of the contribution of occupational therapists in the field of risk management and disasters based on the characteristics, priorities, and main areas of interest of intellectual production in occupational therapy. Method A comprehensive search will be conducted in the journals Disasters, Hazards & Crisis in Public Policy, International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters, and Risk, International Journal of Risk Reduction, and Journal of Contingencies and Crisis Management, as well as in the databases Occupational Therapy Literature Search Service (OTDBASE), PubMed, and Web of Science. Inclusion Criteria Actions and experiences in the field of occupational therapy, notably those of occupational therapists in risk and disaster management, found in peer-reviewed studies adopting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, without temporal restriction. The approach advocated by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) for study selection, critical appraisal, and data collection and synthesis will be used.

Performance of ChatGPT on the National Korean Occupational Therapy Licensing Examination.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-based large language model (LLM). ChatGPT has been widely applied in medicine, but its application in occupational therapy has been lacking. This study examined the accuracy of ChatGPT on the National Korean Occupational Therapy Licensing Examination (NKOTLE) and investigated its potential for application in the field of occupational therapy. ChatGPT 3.5 was used during the five years of the NKOTLE with Korean prompts. Multiple choice questions were entered manually by three dependent encoders, and scored according to the number of correct answers. During the most recent five years, ChatGPT did not achieve a passing score of 60% accuracy and exhibited interrater agreement of 0.6 or higher. ChatGPT could not pass the NKOTLE but demonstrated a high level of agreement between raters. Even though the potential of ChatGPT to pass the NKOTLE is currently inadequate, it performed very close to the passing level even with only Korean prompts.

Objective : In this study, a systematic literature review was conducted to analyze research on the application of artificial intelligence in the field of occupational therapy. Through this, we aim to examine the current status and potential of artificial intelligence applications in occupational therapy and provide foundational data for the future utilization and research directions of artificial intelligence in this field. Methods : This study targeted domestic literature from January 2018 to October 2023. The databases utilized for literature search included the Korean Studies Information Service (KISS), the Research Information Service System (RISS), and the Nurimedia (DBpia). Out of a total of 67 papers obtained from the search results, 57 papers were excluded based on exclusion criteria, and a final selection of 10 papers was made
 Results : The analysis of the selected 10 papers in this study revealed that there were 3 (30.0%) randomized experimental studies, 1 (10.0%) non-randomized two-group experimental study, 5 (50.0%) survey studies, and 1 (10.0%) qualitative study. Out of all the studies, robot-related research accounted for 7 (70%) of the total, while digital therapeutic interventions, cognitive rehabilitation, and measurement technologies each constituted 1 paper Conclusion : Although artificial intelligence has been applied in the field of occupational therapy, particularly centered around robots and computerized cognitive rehabilitation systems, there has been a limited number of studies focusing on the practical application of artificial intelligence. Future research should focus on conducting studies that explore the therapeutic application of artificial intelligence using deep learning or machine learning. It is crucial to conduct high-quality research with a systematic research design to ensure the practical and effective implementation of artificial intelligence in the field.

Objective: This study aimed to systematically review and analyze the effects of time-related interventions. Methods: Using the Research Information Sharing Service, DBpia, PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and CINAHL databases, we searched for “Disability”, “Time Management”, “Time Assistive Device”, and “Intervention”, and “Program” in Journals from 2000 to 2020. A systematic review was conducted using PRISMA 2020 and the quality of the study was evaluated through PEDro. A total of nine studies were collected. Results: For all nine studies, time-related interventions provided by occupational therapists significantly improved time skills. Additionally, improvements were observed in cognition/daily life functions, occupational performance, and psychosocial factors. These interventions included time-skill training and time-assistive devices for people with disabilities. Conclusion: Rehabilitation treatment using time-related interventions can be a useful tool with positive effects on time-processing ability and time management. This is expected to be used as clinical evidence in the domestic occupational therapy field.

Cross-Cultural Adaptation of the Administration Instructions of the Developmental Test of Visual Perception 3rd Edition for isiZulu-Speaking Children

Introduction: Visual perceptual skills are vital for developing academic skills and contribute to language development and socio-cultural participation. The Developmental Test of Visual Perception 3rd Edition evaluates visual perceptual skills but is only available in English. lsiZulu is the most spoken language in South Africa (24,4%), with English being the fourth. Therefore, the English version of the Developmental Test of Visual Perception 3rd Edition cannot be described as a universally authentic assessment instrument in this context. Methodology: This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Developmental Test of Visual Perception 3rd Edition administration instructions into isiZulu using a five-stage qualitatively driven multimethod sequen tial design. Qualitative feedback on the functional, cultural and conceptual equivalence was obtained at various intervals. Results: This study demonstrated a methodology for translating and cross-culturally adapting the administration instructions of the Developmental Test of Visual Perception 3rd Edition into isiZulu to advance the authenticity of the assessment within the South African context. The isiZulu version was found to be functionally, culturally and conceptually equivalent. Conclusion: This research has demonstrated a framework upon which the cross-cultural adaptations of other assessment instruments and other languages in South Africa can be based. Implications for practice • The rigorous methodology demonstrated in this research can be used as a framework to guide other studies in the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of other assessment instruments and into other languages. • This study demonstrated that multiple contributors from various backgrounds are necessary to ensure equivalence during the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation. However, an emphasis is placed on the value of including occupational therapists with clinical experience when translating and cross-culturally adapting assessment instruments intended to be used within the field of occupational therapy. • Through the rigorous method used to translate and cross-cultural adapt the DTVP-3, this study enhanced its authenticity as an assessment instrument within the South African context. Having isiZulu administration instructions available could provide equal opportunity to children who may not be as proficient in English as in isiZulu. • Once a distribution agreement has been reached with ProEd Inc., the original publisher and licence holder, the isiZulu administration instructions of the DTVP-3 will be made available for use in South Africa with isiZulu-speaking children.

Occupational therapy in the management of haemophilia patients: A scoping review.

Haemophilia is a haematological disease, although most haemorrhages occur in the locomotor system. Patients are physically disabled from an early age and have a poorer perception of quality of life. In the day-to-day lives of patients and their families, psychosocial well-being, the disease's physical, personal, and social impact, as well as work-related problems are the most complicated aspects of the disease that need to be addressed. To identify the role of occupational therapy in managing patients with haemophilia and to analyse the therapeutic potential of occupational therapy in treating these patients. A scoping review was conducted to identify the role of occupational therapy in managing patients with haemophilia and to analyse the therapeutic potential of occupational therapy in treating these patients. The review was registered in the international registry PROSPERO (Id: CRD42022319637). The databases consulted were SCOPUS, PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science and Science Direct, including all studies published until 14 August 2023. No single study was found that specifically developed an occupational therapy intervention for patients with haemophilia. Measurement instruments have been identified, specific for patients with haemophilia and generic, that can be useful for the functional evaluation of these patients in the occupational therapy approach. Different studies showed the importance of multidisciplinary treatment, including occupational therapy. The use of occupational therapy could be effective in improving autonomy and quality of life in haemophilia patients. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to conduct research studies within the field of occupational therapy.

Abstract The American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT) has maintained its top-ranking status in the field of occupational therapy, as evidenced by an increase in its 2-yr impact factor. As the Editor-in-Chief enters her second 3-yr term, the journal faces both challenges and opportunities stemming from trends in academic publishing. The editorial team seeks to navigate these shifts while fostering meaningful research dissemination and translation. Key outcomes for 2023 showcase the journal’s dedication to addressing diverse occupational therapy needs. A special issue on autism and mental health in 2023 and upcoming themes on recovery after neurological injury and play in occupational therapy in 2024 exemplify AJOT’s commitment to relevant topics. The AJOT Authors & Issues interview series and an active presence on social media platforms further bolster research engagement and translation. Despite challenges, AJOT’s impact factor and rankings in the rehabilitation category have demonstrated its global influence and leadership. The journal’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is evident through initiatives such as AJOT’s DEI Committee and DEI article collection, as well as AJOT’s comprehensive approach to combating bias. As AJOT looks ahead to 2024, its goals include reviving State of the Science articles, updating our Author Guidelines to incorporate artificial intelligence and bias-free language policies, and fostering engagement through the AJOT Instagram account and monthly AJOT Authors & Issues discussions. The standardised Malay version of purdue pegboard test: Content validity and test-retest reliability testing.

Purdue Pegboard Test (PPT) is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring hand dexterity among individuals with or without medical conditions. In the Southeast Asia region where Malay is widely spoken, there is a need to have a Malay translation of Purdue Pegboard Test. This study aimed to translate the PPT into the Malay version (PPT-M) and to determine the content validity and test-retest reliability of this translated version. This study involved: (1) four English teachers (translators) for forward and backward translation procedures; (2) 10 experts in the field of occupational therapy (expert reviewers) for content validity testing; and (3) 60 undergraduate students (participants) for test-retest reliability testing. PPT-M had excellent content validity with Item-Content Validity Index = 0.9-1.0, Scale-Content Validity Index/Average = 0.93-0.95, and a slightly lower Scale-Content Validity Index/Universal Agreement = 0.25-0.75. Test-retest reliability for 3-trial administration (n = 30; Intraclass Correlation Coefficients, ICCs = 0.76-0.85; good) was higher compared to 1-trial administration (n = 30; ICCs = 0.34-0.46; poor) for all subtests. Both trial administrations were mostly affected by systematic errors, especially practice effect as the retests gave higher scores. Random errors mostly affected Subtest 3 of 1-trial administration, evident by its Minimal Detectable Change Percent values = 30.84% that fell beyond the acceptable range. PPT-M has the potential to be a valuable instrument for measuring hand dexterity among Malay speaking individuals especially when the 3-trial administration is used.

Abstract This paper unsettles taken-for-granted understandings of social inclusion in the field of occupational therapy and links with the concept of radical inclusion developed in social occupational therapy. It traces the ways that, over time, inclusion has been reduced to a position within the inclusion/exclusion binary. Pierre Bourdieu’s reflexive theory of practice is introduced to expand understandings of how the negative value accorded to disability is reproduced through exclusionary social conditions and relations. Drawing on the results of a qualitative study that examined the everyday lives, practices and occupations of 13 Canadian youth who used augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) modes as a result of physical impairments, three elements of more inclusive social spaces - safety, communion, and recognition - are presented alongside implications of each for occupational therapy. These alternative approaches for thinking beyond inclusion are grounded by narratives illustrating elements of social spaces that can foster a sense of belonging and connection. The perspectives shared by youth in the study add complex insights into how they made ‘practical sense’ of prevailing calls for social inclusion. Their stories show how even as they struggled for inclusion, they were subject to and internalized negative valuations of disability. Importantly, the paper highlights strategies employed by youth to reformulate inclusion on their own terms. These reformulations go beyond over-simplified conceptions of inclusion and hold potential to inform the ways that occupational therapists work alongside individuals and collectives to improve life chances, expand occupational possibilities, and support flourishing for disabled children and youth.

The Size and Structure of the Swiss Occupational Therapy Workforce. A Survey Study / Anzahl und Struktur der Ergotherapie-Arbeitsplätze in der Schweiz: eine Online-Befragung

Abstract Background As in other health professions, there is a shortage of skilled labour in the field of occupational therapy in Switzerland. To plan and implement effective measures to counter this shortage, empirical data on the size and structure of the Swiss occupational therapy workforce are needed. Method We conducted an online survey aimed at employers of occupational therapists, team leaders and self-employed occupational therapists in Switzerland. We collected data on the size and structure of the workforce in terms of sociodemographic characteristics, regional distribution, areas of work, and related topics. To analyse quantitative data, we used descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Qualitative data were narratively described. Results We collected data from 968 respondents pertaining to 3,022 Swiss occupational therapists, with a response rate of 73.6% for medical institutions and 58.2% for occupational therapists in private practice. Women make up 90.1% of the Swiss occupational therapy workforce. Swiss occupational therapists most often work with clients who have difficulties in connection with injuries or illnesses of the upper limbs, neurological illnesses or injuries, or challenges with mental health. The ratio of occupational therapists per 10,000 inhabitants in Switzerland is at least 3.2. Swiss occupational therapy provision is least dense in Central Switzerland. The average reported turnover rate among occupational therapy teams was calculated to be 20% (SD=27.9). Conclusion The results illustrate the persistent lack of gender diversity in the profession. They also show some disparities in geographical distribution and area of practice, which will be analysed in more detail in subsequent publications.

Ensino de tecnologia assistiva nos cursos de graduação em terapia ocupacional do Estado de São Paulo

Abstract Introduction Knowledge about assistive technology is related to aspects of the field of occupational therapy, thus, it is questioned whether such knowledge has been addressed in undergraduate courses. Objectives To identify the undergraduate courses in occupational therapy in the state of São Paulo that offer disciplines related to assistive technology, identify the disciplines, their respective workloads and the content present in each of them. Method The sample consisted of eight universities, five public and three private. The search was made in the curricular matrices, teaching plans of specific and non-specific disciplines, objectives and contents available online or requested from the course coordinator. Descriptive data analysis was performed. Results It was found that assistive technology content was offered in the investigated universities, with a difference between the workload and the content offered. The analysis by assistive technology application area showed that the content on orthoses is offered in 100% of the analyzed courses, followed by assistive products for the performance of daily activities and prostheses, both contents found in 75% of the courses; mobility equipment; accessibility and universal design in 62.5%; alternative communication in 50% of the courses. Conclusion The results point to the relevance of greater homogeneity of content between the investigated universities and suggest that this study has the potential to foster discussions about the formation of occupational therapists in the assistive technology area, since the results come from the analysis of undergraduate courses located in the state which has the largest number of occupational therapy courses in Brazil.

O poder dos espaços coletivos como estratégia contra a violação de direitos

Abstract This paper articulates the theoretical-methodological contributions of social occupational therapy and the experience of “Timbó em Movimento'' and “ResisTO” projects, which are part of the Rede Metuia nucleus belonging to the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil. It recognizes the importance of territorial practices and the social occupational therapy field for the strengthening and support of populations with diverse conditions of vulnerability. Articulation of what was observed in the Timbó em Movimento and ResisTO projects with concepts such as the intersectionality of social markers of difference, their implications for the right to the city and their effects in the daily life of youths. The article elaborates the implications of social markers in the daily life of the participants, as well as the potential of collective reference spaces and intersectoral articulation to confront violence. It is concluded that the spaces of belonging have great relevance for addressing conflicts in the social field, promoting the participation of people and the exercise of citizenship, rejecting the tendency to seek individual solutions to collective problems. Remains the challenge of taking these dialogues to the daily contexts in which violence takes place, incorporating actors that may also be involved in its reproduction.

The purpose of the study was to perform an analysis of the results of studies devoted to the study of the effectiveness of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in patients with adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder joint. Materials and methods. This work is the result of an analysis of studies devoted to the study of the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation as monotherapy and as a part of a complex physical therapy or rehabilitation program on the range of motion in the shoulder joint, pain on the visual analog scale, and the shoulder pain and disability index. During the search in scientific databases, the data of 11 studies, which are devoted to the specified issues, were selected. Results and discussion. Studies examining the immediate effects of interventions have found both benefits and no benefits on amplitude measures in groups of patients who received proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in addition to physical therapy or as a component of adjunctive therapy. Thus, it is not possible to draw unequivocal conclusions in the question of advantages regarding the immediate effect. Analysis of the effectiveness of programs and courses of treatment for adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder joint established that in the vast majority of studies, the results in the proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation groups were better at the end of the treatment (3-4 weeks). At the same time, in most studies, scientists noted a significant improvement in pain, amplitude, and functioning indicators in control groups, that is, without the use of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. All of the reviewed papers that analyzed the effectiveness of adding only proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation to physical therapy programs or adding proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation as a part of adjunctive therapy found advantages in such groups in terms of pain improvement on a visual analog scale or a pain subscale in questionnaires. Only one such study did not indicate a benefit of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation in external rotation. In addition, in most cases, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation or combined therapy with proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation had a better effect on the amplitude of abduction and flexion at the shoulder joint. Conclusion. Turkish version of life balance inventory: Validity, reliability, and cultural adaptation study

Background Life balance is an important concept in occupational therapy and is considered an essential component of the outcomes of life, such as happiness, and satisfaction of needs. Aims The aim of this study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Life Balance Inventory (LBI) in healthy individuals. Materials and methods The study consisted of three stages: (1) translation and cultural adaptation, (2) testing internal consistency and reliability, and (3) checking construct validity of LBI. The LBI and the Juhnke-Balkin Life Balance Inventory were implemented. Results The study was completed with a total of 312 individuals. Cronbach’s alpha for Turkish LBI (T-LBI) total score was 0.939. The test-retest ICC scores of T-LBI were found to be 0.986 for the ‘health’ subscale, 0.980 for the ‘relationship’ subscale, 0.974 for the ‘identity’ subscale, and 0.990 for the ‘challenge/interest’ subscale. The total ICC score of the inventory was 0.989. Conclusion and significance The T-LBI is a valid and reliable assessment tool for measuring life balance in healthy individuals. We believe that our results will anticipate to increase the number of studies on life balance in the field of occupational therapy in Turkey.

A Narrative Review of the Usage of Creative Solutions to Enhance Disabled Patients' Quality of Life and Wellbeing by Occupational Therapists.

Occupational therapists play a crucial role in the rehabilitation process, as they maximise patients' independence and participation in meaningful occupations by adopting creative solutions in their treatment plan. Recognizing the importance of creative work and incorporating it into daily activities can be a powerful technique for enhancing quality of life. As a result, OTs must comprehend the significance of using creativity on a daily basis with patients. Creativity has been implicit in occupational therapists' values and practices since the occupational therapy field's early days. In particular, OTs use meaningful activities to promote health, wellbeing, and independence, which have traditionally had a strong connection with creativity. Primarily, the OT uses practical exercise to create wellbeing and autonomy, which have had a healthy linkage with imagination. The OT has used creative exercise as a treatment technique since the beginning of the profession. In this paper, a Narrative Review Checklist was used to carry out specific checks of manuscripts' structures and a careful selection of the articles which are included in the manuscript. In addition, articles referenced in review articles or guidelines were reviewed for inclusion. Findings. This review has shown that the primary motivation for implementing creative activities was to improve the patient performance, wellbeing, and self-esteem. The goal of implementing creative activities was to assist the client in self-expression as well as experience joy and desire. As a result, the necessity to investigate the influence of creative solutions in treatment from an OT standpoint has been identified. Future studies should focus on how it is important to consider the patient's intrinsic and extrinsic motivations when designing creative solutions, as well as how the disability affects their daily activities, occupations, and adherence to a treatment plan.
