CLUSTERING SUNDANESE CULTURAL ARTICLES ON GOOGLE SCHOLAR: A BIBLIOMETRIC REVIEW

This study aims to analyze the bibliometric characteristics of articles on Google Scholar indexed Sundanese Culture published in 2016-2021 which were accessed in June 2022. Methods: We conducted a bibliometric analysis and published content in the Google Scholar database. Results: Based on the specified protocol, 219 articles about Sundanese culture over the last 6 years met the inclusion criteria. The frequency of articles is spread across 195 national and international journals with the use of Indonesian language articles 153 articles (70%) and 67 articles (30%) using English. Three ranks of affiliated institutions that are productive in publishing articles on the theme of Sundanese culture, namely Padjadjaran University (39 articles), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (21 articles) and Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati (21 articles). Conclusion: Over the last 6 years scientific publications on the theme of Sundanese culture have provided an overview of the dynamics and value factors of local wisdom identity and cultural preservation in the aspects of art, language, tourism development, character education and cultural and religious synergy between Sundanese and Islam. In terms of various scientific backgrounds and/or study programs, researchers see that the field of communication studies is the most productive "trend" in studying Sundanese cultural themes, so that there is an opportunity to foster further discussion and research on Sundanese culture in certain disciplines and/or in an interdisciplinary manner. multi or cross disciplinary can be a common concern.

Reflections on a communication journey into professionalism and organizing

Abstract Much research in the field of communication studies has evidenced a ‘performative turn’ in how it views professionalism, professionals, and the professions. This special issue, Opening up the meanings of ‘the professional’, professional organizations, and professionalism in communication studies, documents this process and lays out a research agenda in and from communication studies that can inform scholarship on professionalism and organizing. In addition to mapping out and contextualizing the multiple, contested meanings of professionalism, particularly in novel or ‘non-standard’ contexts, it shows how workers enact, negotiate, reify, and resist the meanings of professionalism in both aspirational and exclusionary ways. When we shift the focus from professional experts (and the institutional apparatus that protects their status, autonomy, and authority) to expertise, as Ashcraft suggests in her contribution to this special issue, scholarly analysis needs to account for an entire network of actors, ideas, instruments, and forms of organizing that allow for successful—or failed—performances of expertise and understand that those performances rest on economies of difference. Economies of difference are distinctions among the sorts of work, workers, and working that wield political power in that they implicate social structures and dictate how specialized expertise is and can be deployed and recognized. Economies of difference create and benefit from inequities. The articles in this special issue offer empirical and conceptual windows into the contested and messy performance of professionalism, how it serves as a resource for some and a constraint for others, and how its contemporary meaning is potentially disrupted.

Research on Algorithmic Gender Bias under the Paradigm of Machine Behavior Studies

In the field of communication studies, machine behavior specifically refers to information dissemination activities involving artificial intelligence technology. As algorithms increasingly become the primary force in information dissemination, their potential gender bias becomes increasingly apparent. This paper, based on three research scopes in machine behavior studies: individual behavior, collective behavior, and human-machine interaction behavior, examines the gender bias exhibited by artificial intelligence entities in algorithms at these three levels. At the individual behavior level, the tendency of algorithm development to simplify features overlooks the diversity present in female society. The inherited data bias and human bias make it difficult to avoid gender discrimination. At the collective behavior level, the creation of opinion leader-type social robots expands the subject of information fog, making the concealed gender discrimination against women more covert. The use of large-scale machine armies manipulates search engine results, leading to severe gender bias in search engine outputs. At the hybrid human-machine behavior level, artificial intelligence shapes female images to construct female cognitive thinking. Algorithms acquire human bias during interaction with users, and social robots amplify gender bias issues through mixed human-machine behavior.

The specifics of digital media and the communication role of media content consumers in assessing the student audience (based on the materials of a sociological study)

The article highlights the results of a study, the subject of which was the student audience's ideas about the specific characteristics of digital media, the role and place of authors and consumers of media content in the communication process. The authors consider such aspects of the topic as awareness of the reasons that encourage the audience to turn to digital media content; the grounds and directions for evaluating relevant media phenomena; reflection on the activity or passivity of the role that the audience assumes. Particular attention is paid to the respondents' perception of social norms and rules that determine the forms and types of communicative behavior in the digital media space, since the dynamism of their development disposes not only to search for options for adaptation to innovative technologies for working with information, but also to search for a reliable value basis both in the field of media communications and in broader areas of social life. During the research, the questionnaire method, descriptive method and analysis method were used. The respondents included students majoring in Advertising and Public Relations. In analyzing digital media, the target audience relies on both their own individual experience and the experience gained from studying theories and practices relevant to specialists in the field of communication studies. In the process of reflection on the specific characteristics of digital media, students demonstrate primarily a value-based approach, choosing traditional moral values and norms as the basis for evaluating the studied phenomena. The main attention is paid to the problem of responsibility to society of both authors and consumers of media content, who must be guided by such requirements as honesty, conscientiousness and willingness to act in the interests of the majority of people. Analyzing the role of communicators, students, in addition to being involved in ethical issues, also demonstrate a desire to develop critical thinking and personal development. The activity of this role, however, is assessed in two ways: respondents record both the opportunity for digital media audiences to act as active figures implementing the function of co-authors of media content, and their exposure to media influence, in which the active role of co-authors is replaced by the passive role of addressees who act within the dominant code.

Transcendental Communication in MH Saifurrahmi's Nerve Reflex Therapy: An Epistemological Perspective of Irfani

Transcendental communication is a relatively new concept in the realm of communication studies. It refers to communication between a servant and God, characterized as transcendent or vertical. One instance of this is observed in the phenomenon of nerve reflex therapy by MH Saifurrahmi, where transcendental communication is utilized. Transcendental communication is also a recent development in the field of communication studies. This article examines the transcendental communication phenomenon present in MH Saifurrahmi's nerve reflex therapy in Mayang, Jambi City. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through observations, interviews, and documentation. The research findings reveal that in the nerve reflex therapy conducted by MH Saifurrahmi in Mayang, Jambi City, the phenomenon involves the use of "tawasul" (mediation) as a means of transcendental communication directed toward his mentors and elders, ultimately reaching out to Allah. Additionally, prayer gatherings ("sholat hajat") and supplications serve as measures for healing, advised by MH Saifurrahmi before administering nerve reflex therapy. The outcome of this mediation manifests as intuitive insights experienced by MH Saifurrahmi, enabling him to diagnose conditions and recommend herbal remedies tailored for treatment.

Introduction. The review is devoted to the publication of the book “Cyberhumanism. How communication technologies transform our society” by Nizhny Novgorod researcher A. N. Fortunatov – the Doctor of Philosophy, specialist in the field of communication studies, media philosophy and the history of television. Theoretical analysis. In the book by A. N. Fortunatov, methodological principles of communicative theory, media philosophy and humanism as a philosophical trend were combined. The result was the emergence of the term "cyberhumanism", which serves as a characteristic of the aggressive nature of communication technologies aimed, according to the author, at subordinating a person to digital means of communication and media. The author claims that the digital transformation of society is a natural phenomenon that arose as a result of the development of scientific and technological progress, however, the “callousness” of the digital sphere negatively affects the personality, that becomes only a reflection of the media. A. N. Fortunatov shows how digital media reality is constructed, where the subject and the object change places. A person ceases to be a subject in interaction with the media, since it is not he who influences them, but, on the contrary, the means of communication subordinate him to their will and the logic of existence. Conclusion. Such an ambiguous approach to the consideration of the phenomenon of media constitutes the research value of the book, which may be of interest to a wide range of readers dealing with the problems of digital society.

Impression Management Komunitas Role player K-POP dalam Media Sosial Twitter

<p><em>The emergence of K-Pop in Indonesia has given rise to a rapidly evolving fan culture on various social media platforms, one of which is Twitter. Fandom communities on Twitter have, in turn, brought forth a new phenomenon: the emergence of K-Pop Roleplayer communities. K-Pop Roleplaying involves participants assuming the personas of Korean celebrities as characters in their interactions. Since players essentially 'borrow' the identities of others in this game, terms like "In Character" (IC) and "Out of Character" (OOC) have arisen, which can be explored through the same concepts found in impression management, namely the "front stage" and "back stage." This qualitative research, employing a netnographic approach, seeks to understand how K-Pop Roleplayers engage in impression management in their daily activities and how effectively they can portray the chosen celebrity characters. The study also examines the real-life impacts of Roleplay on the participants. The research was conducted using netnography methods, including observation and semi-structured interviews with five informants who are K-Pop Roleplayers.The findings of this study are as follows: K-Pop Roleplayers consider their Twitter timelines as their "front stage." The objective of their impression management is to create a positive image of the characters they portray. They achieve this through the appearance of their accounts and the content they post. The "back stage" in this context is considered to be their online accounts, and Roleplaying has a noticeable influence on the real lives of the participants. This research makes a valuable contribution to the field of communication studies, especially in the realm of social media dramaturgy.</em></p>

A Research on CEO Branding

“Personal branding” is a phenomenon that has attracted attention since it was first introduced by Tom Peters (1997). Starting from the assumption that every person is a “brand” with a value proposition, the concept of personal brand has expanded its scope over time and has created its own sub-types. The CEO brand is one of these subtypes. CEO branding means that the CEO can brand just like a product, service or institution. In this study, personal brand concepts and practices are analyzed on the axis of the CEO brand and on the basis of new media. The study was designed with a qualitative research method and was carried out using descriptive analysis. The sample of the research consists of CEO accounts that have accounts on LinkedIn. The sample of this study consists of 20 CEOs selected among “Turkey’s 50 Most Admired CEOs” who were awarded the Golden Leader Awards in 2021 as a result of the research conducted by KREA. It is desired to explain the CEO brand through the analysis themes of the study. It is aimed to explain the CEO brand through the analysis themes of the study. These themes, adapted from İbicioğlu et al. (2014) are; image management, differentiation, positioning, and career interest become prominent as the main themes of the study. The sub- themes of the study were examined in detail as contextual richness, personal and professional development, personal qualities, distinctiveness, professional photographs, professional achievements and positive features,professional abilities, professional titles and duties, professional competence, and future goals. The aim of this study is to examine personal brand practices, CEO brands’ use of new media within the scope of the determined sample and research, and to explain the appearance of CEO brands in new media in the context of personal brand with a descriptive analysis. With this analysis, it is aimed to provide a conceptual framework to the literature on the use of LinkedIn by CEO brands. Thus, it was desired to create a scope and definition area for personal branding and CEO branding, which is a relatively new topic in the field of communication studies. The methodology of this research is descriptive content analysis, which belongs to the qualitative research design. The qualitative data analysis program MAXQDA was used to evaluate the research data. Within the scope of the study carried out over MAXQDA, it has been determined that CEOs use new media effectively and carry out branding activities through new media. It has been found that this situation makes a positive contribution to the personal brands of CEOs and the brands of the institutions they work for. In other words, the results of this study create a sustainable CEO brand concept by displaying personal qualities parallel to the personal images of CEO brands and the images of institutions. It has been observed that the definition and scope of the CEO brand concept, the CEO branding process, and the vital importance of new media in the CEO branding process are as discussed in the literature.

Articulation in ‘Image Event’: The Media Discourse from the Perspective of Post-Marxism

Media discourse is the main ideographic system in the world today. Post-Marxist discourse theory, represented by Laclau and Mouffe, argues that media discourse no longer merely conveys information but, more importantly, it has a powerful constructive and representational power over reality. Post-Marxist discourse theory has been gradually applied to social science research, and has also been further developed in the field of communication studies. ‘Articulation’ is a very significant rhetorical practice in the discursive generation mechanism of image events. The basic idea of articulation is to discover and activate the relationship between things and specific discourses. Many of the image events are disseminated through the deliberate appropriation of a series of established discourses, discovering a hidden interface between the topic and the established discourse, which not only enables the production and recreation of a new discourse, but also gives the event a legitimate discursive underpinning. This article aims to provide a post-Marxist analysis of the media discourse interface that exists in the image event in order to broaden theoretical and methodological horizons and create new perspectives for the study of media discourse.

Wideband SIW based slot antenna for RADAR applications

In this case, a substrate integrated waveguide technology is used in conjunction with a cavity-backed slot antenna. The modified slot antenna, in comparison to the dumbbell-shaped slot, not only adds numerous additional resonance spots, but it also enables the antenna to attain a better gain. In addition to this, the high-order resonant modes that are contained inside the sub cavity may be stimulated by the ground coplanar waveguide feeding structure if the high-order modes are brought into close proximity with one another. Based on the results of the test, it has been determined that the suggested antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth of 26.7% between 18.2 and 23.8 GHz and a peak gain of 9.5 dBi at 20.4 GHz. At each of the three frequencies that were tested, the cross-polarization levels of the antenna are around 40 dB. Antennas are recognised as being among the most important parts of any communication system. Because of this, antenna design is now one of the most active areas of study within the field of communication studies. In contrast, applications like as air traffic radar, satellite communications, and point-to-point terrestrial connection demand highly concentrated radiation patterns that also have a wideband and high gain. Because of this more focused radiation pattern, there will also be an increase in the communication range.

Nonverbal Cues in Human–Robot Interaction: A Communication Studies Perspective

Communication between people is characterized by a broad range of nonverbal cues. Transferring these cues into the design of robots and other artificial agents that interact with people may foster more natural, inviting, and accessible experiences. In this article, we offer a series of definitive nonverbal codes for human–robot interaction (HRI) that address the five human sensory systems (visual, auditory, haptic, olfactory, and gustatory) drawn from the field of communication studies. We discuss how these codes can be translated into design patterns for HRI using a curated sample of the communication studies and HRI literatures. As nonverbal codes are an essential mode in human communication, we argue that integrating robotic nonverbal codes in HRI will afford robots a feeling of “aliveness” or “social agency” that would otherwise be missing. We end with suggestions for research directions to stimulate work on nonverbal communication within the field of HRI and improve communication between people and robots.

CIESPAL and the development of education and research in communication in Latin America

As a regional international organization focused on education and research, the Centro Internacional de Estudios Superiores de Comunicación para América Latina (CIESPAL) played a key role in institutionalizing the field of communication studies in the so-called “Third World” countries. Founded in 1959, in Ecuador, it is an initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) with the objective of implementing a set of strategies to improve the training of journalists and academics in the area. Referring to the Cold War context, its development was linked to other international organizations and political-cultural entities, which ended up stimulating the formation of an environment marked by relations of cooperation and cooptation, but also by resistance. By reconstructing the 60-year trajectory of this Latin American center, the aim is to show how its role has been dynamic and is related to the political and social changes that have taken place in the region, notably the rise and fall of military dictatorships in South America.

A Buddhist approach on Freedom of expression: An Asian Approach

There are three major schools within Buddhism namely, Theravada(the school of the Elders ), Mahayana(the Great Vehicle) and Vajrayana(the Diamond Vehicle). There are many similarities among these different schools. This study focuses on freedom of expression based on Theravada Buddhism. The field of communication studies has mostly been represented by Western frames of reference. Some scholars, say such studies reflect Anglo -American bias. Buddhist phenomenological approach would be new genre for studying communication. The Buddhist approach can be applied for every social, economic, political and ethical ground. This paper shows that Asian traditional, philosophical teachings can be applied for contemporary communication issues and problems.

Linguopragmatic Potential of the Use of Polycode Metaphor in PR Discourse

This study is a continuation of the author’s research of various approaches to the use of metaphor and other expressive language means in texts of English PR discourse (public relations discourse). The aim of the work to reveal the use of the linguistic and pragmatic potential of expressive linguistic units inherent in the texts of the sphere of directed communication, based on the material of the English-language PR discourse, taking into account the PR ends of informing the society and building a certain understanding of the described phenomena. Regarding the stance of attributing metaphor to complex mental mechanisms, public relations councilors resort to their usage to represent new phenomena through the sensory and social experience of a person. The novelty of the study is the conclusion that by using certain polycode language units, PR copywriters get the opportunity to transfer conceptual representations to a process or phenomenon that is difficult to understand, since complex professional texts can be adapted for understanding through similarity and analogy presented in language. The conducted research contributes to discursive studies, as well as to understanding of metaphorical thinking in theory and practice, which can be used in teaching courses in lexicology, phraseology of the English language, as well as for training specialists in the field of communication studies.

The article examines the language of public relations (PR) discourse, which conveys both universal and culture-specific values in the professional activities of PR councilors. Within the framework of modern communication studies, the focus is on the change of value orientations caused by the paradigmatic transformations of communicative thinking in the new era promoted by the Western world. The objective the article is to analyze the particularities of modern value concepts implemented in the language of PR specialists, both at the local and global levels. The methodology of the work is based on linguistic research and achievements in the field of communication studies of Russian and foreign theorists of leading scientific schools. Research methods include content analysis, continuous sampling, philological analysis, as well as general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis. Modern PR communication participated in values shift and modification of ideological ideas through communicative practices inherent in PR discourse. In conclusion, it has been found out that new value concepts within the framework of PR discourse are a new volatile reality of Western society, which must be studied to expand interdisciplinary knowledge and increase the pragmatic component of communicative research. The novelty of the research lies in the identification of ideological shifts embodied in the practice and language of PR communication, which also determines the practical significance of the presented work. In conclusion, it is noted that public relations specialists need to create messages taking into account the transformations taking place in modern global society. The obtained research results can be used in the process of teaching the theory of communication studies, intercultural communication and public relations writing practice.
