A simple and efficient one-pot three-component microwave assisted syntheses of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)- ones/thione derivatives were carried out by condensation of ethylacetoacetate/ methylacetoacetate, aromatic aldehydes and urea/thiourea by using silica ferric hydrogen sulfate as a reusable catalyst.It has been observed that a small amount of SFHS (5 mol%) is sufficient to bring out the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones/thiones. Structurally diversed aromatic aldehyde bearing electron donating, withdrawing groups and hetero-atom were reacted smoothly used under the same reaction condition.High yields, shorter reaction times, one pot condensation, operational simplicity, easy work-up, and purification of products by non-chromatographic methods are some additional features of this method.Furthermore, the catalyst can be recovered and reused five times without any significant loss of activity.
