Improving object detection quality with structural constraints.

Recent researches revealed object detection networks using the simple "classification loss + localization loss" training objective are not effectively optimized in many cases, while providing additional constraints on network features could effectively improve object detection quality. Specifically, some works used constraints on training sample relations to successfully learn discriminative network features. Based on these observations, we propose Structural Constraint for improving object detection quality. Structural constraint supervises feature learning in classification and localization network branches with Fisher Loss and Equi-proportion Loss respectively, by requiring feature similarities of training sample pairs to be consistent with corresponding ground truth label similarities. Structural constraint could be applied to all object detection network architectures with the assist of our Proxy Feature design. Our experiment results showed that structural constraint mechanism is able to optimize object class instances' distribution in network feature space, and consequently detection results. Evaluations on MSCOCO2017 and KITTI datasets showed that our structural constraint mechanism is able to assist baseline networks to outperform modern counterpart detectors in terms of object detection quality.

Illumination-robust face recognition based on deep convolutional neural networks architectures

<p><span>In the last decade, facial recognition techniques are considered the most important fields of research in biometric technology. In this research paper, we present a Face Recognition (FR) system divided into three steps: The Viola-Jones face detection algorithm, facial image enhancement using Modified Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization algorithm (M-CLAHE), and feature learning for classification. For learning the features followed by classification we used VGG16, ResNet50 and Inception-v3 Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) architectures for the proposed system. Our experimental work was performed on the Extended Yale B database and CMU PIE face database. Finally, the comparison with the other methods on both databases shows the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed approach. Where the Inception-v3 architecture has achieved a rate of 99, 44% and 99, 89% respectively.</span></p>

Structured Visual Feature Learning for Classification via Supervised Probabilistic Tensor Factorization

In this paper, structured visual feature learning aims at exploiting the intrinsic structural properties of mutually correlated multimedia collections (e.g., video frames or facial images) to learn a more effective feature representation for multimedia data classification. We pose structured visual feature learning as a problem of supervised tensor factorization (STF), which is capable of effectively learning multi-view visual features from structural tensorial multimedia data. In mathematics , STF is formulated as a joint optimization framework of probabilistic inference and $\epsilon $ -insensitive support vector regression. As a result, the feature representation obtained by STF not only preserves the intrinsic multi-view structural information on tensorial multimedia data, but also includes the discriminative information derived from the max-margin learning process. Using the learned discriminative visual features, we conduct a set of multimedia classification experiments on several challenging datasets, including images and videos, which demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
