Exploring the moderating effect of brand image on the relationship between customer satisfaction and repurchase intentions in the fast-food industry

PurposeThis study aimed to determine whether the brand image of fast-food restaurants moderates the relationship between satisfaction and loyalty among Chilean customers.Design/methodology/approachThe study was conducted using a structural equation modeling approach and involved a sample of 1,000 fast-food customers who were surveyed through nonprobabilistic sampling with a questionnaire consisting of 21 items. The instrument underwent validation by a panel of experts, and the results obtained were processed using the statistical software Smart PLS4. Convergent validity, discriminant validity and the structural model were tested to assess the acceptance or rejection of the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThe results of the research indicate that product quality, service quality and physical environment are crucial factors influencing customer satisfaction and shaping customer loyalty. However, it was found that brand image does not moderate the relationship between satisfaction and loyalty in fast-food consumption.Originality/valueThe present study contributes to the field of knowledge on fast-food consumption behavior and unveils findings that help fill knowledge gaps regarding the influence of restaurant brand image on the relationship between satisfaction and consumption loyalty. Thus, it demonstrates that, for certain customers, the brand becomes an irrelevant factor for their consumption loyalty as long as the restaurant offers product quality, excellent service and a pleasant physical environment.

DETERMINANTS OF FAST FOOD CONSUMPTION BEHAVIOR IN ADOLESCENTS IN THE CITY OF JAKARTA

Fast food is high in calories and fat. Consuming fast food excessively can cause various health problems, including obesity. This study aims to determine the factors related to the behavior of fast food consumption in adolescents at SMA Negeri 30 Jakarta in 2022. The research design was quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. Data collection in this study was carried out in April - May 2022 with a population of 884. A total of 200 respondents as samples were collected and processed using the Quota Sampling sampling technique. This research employs univariate, bivariate, and Chi-Square test analysis methods. The results of the univariate analysis of most categories showed that adolescents often consumed fast food (51%), female gender (59.5%), had good knowledge (65%), had a positive attitude (59%), had a positive body image (56%), has high pocket money (66.5%), is not affected by social media (68.5%), not affected by peers (78%) and unaffected by promotion (65%). The bivariate analysis showed a relationship between knowledge (p-value= 0.000; PR= 2.566; 95% CI= 1.661-3.963), body image (p-value= 0.035; PR= 1.381; 95% CI= 1.042-1.830) , pocket money (p-value= 0.046; PR= 1.369; 95% CI= 1.039-1.804), and the influence of promotion (p-value = 0.009; PR= 1.572; 95% CI= 1.109-2.229) on fast food consumption behavior.

The Prevalence of Fast-food Consumption among University Students in the Northern Area of Malaysia

Fast food has become popular on a global scale. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of fast-food consumption among university students. A total of 364 students from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Perlis branch were recruited to participate in this study. Data collection was conducted with a modified version of the standard Nelson’s questionnaire. In this study, the prevalence described by percentage shows that 32.7% of participants consume fast food 2-3 times per month. As for the type of food consumption, most participants preferred bakeries or doughnuts (64.6%), and most of them are female. The second rank was pizza/restaurant fast food type, Asian fast food, ice cream and burger shops. The last rank was the sandwich shop type of fast food. These prevalence results provided a descriptive analysis of the frequency of fast food consumption, specifically in this geographic area. It also provided statistics about the type of fast food being consumed by the participants. A comprehensive demographic background and fast food consumption behavior should be focus of the next study.

The Relationship of Fast Food Towards The Event of Acne Vulgaris in Students

Acne vulgaris is a skin disease caused by inflammation of the polysebaceous follicles (skin oil glands). Acne, if left untreated, can lead to depression and a crisis of confidence for the sufferer. Acne vulgaris can occur at any age due to several factors, one of which is food. This study aimed to analyze the level of acne vulgaris, determine the consumption pattern of fast food, and the relationship between fast food and the incidence of acne (acne vulgaris) in students. This type of research is analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 52 people using a consecutive sampling method. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with a chi-square test. The results showed that the highest acne vulgaris was in the moderate category, namely 23 people (44.2%). Fast food consumption patterns were in a bad category, namely 22 people (42.3%), so there was a relationship with a significance value of 0.018 < 0 0.05 between fast food consumption behavior and the incidence of acne (acne vulgaris) in students. It was concluded that the highest incidence of acne (acne vulgaris) was in the moderate category, and the highest consumption pattern of fast food was in the bad category. There was a positive and significant relationship between fast food consumption behavior and the incidence of acne (acne vulgaris) in college students.

Fast food consumption value: examining the moderating role of process value

Purpose Fast food consumption is examined through the theoretical lens of the food consumption value model. Specifically, this study aims to examine whether process value moderates the impact of fast-food consumption value on consumer decision-making. Design/methodology/approach Data is collected from 380 US consumers via a self-administered online questionnaire. Structural equation modeling and moderated mediation analysis are used to test the relationships between fast-food consumption values (product value, location value, emotional value, social value and process value), attitude and behavioral intention. Findings Location value (physical and experiential environment of fast-food consumption) and emotional value (positive affect from fast-food consumption) of fast food positively influence behavioral intention through positive attitude toward fast food. Positive impact of product value (physical attributes of fast food) on behavioral intention through attitude is attenuated by process value (consumers’ level of concern on sustainability of fast-food production). Practical implications Fast-food restaurants should prioritize their investments in providing location value (e.g. pleasant restaurant atmosphere) and emotional value. It is also important to take caution in focusing too much on product value and consider investing more resources into implementing sustainable practices. Originality/value The consumption value-based approach not only updates previous understanding of fast-food consumption behavior but also offers insights on how consumers’ decision-making process is influenced by their perception toward sustainability issues of fast-food production.

Determining intention, fast food consumption and their related factors among university students by using a behavior change theory

BackgroundToday, with the advancement of science, technology and industry, people’s lifestyles such as the pattern of people’s food, have changed from traditional foods to fast foods. The aim of this survey was to examine and identify factors influencing intent to use fast foods and behavior of fast food intake among students based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB).MethodsA cross-sectional study was conducted among 229 university students. The study sample was selected and entered to the study using stratified random sampling method. Data were collected using a four-part questionnaire including Participants’ characteristics, knowledge, the TPB variables, and fast food consumption behavior. The study data were analyzed in SPSS software (version 16.0) using descriptive statistics (frequencies, Means, and Standard Deviation) and inferential statistics (t-test, Chi-square, correlation coefficient and multiple regressions).ResultsThe monthly frequency of fast food consumption among students was reported 2.7 times. The TPB explained 35, 23% variance of intent to use fast food and behavior of fast food intake, respectively. Among the TPB variables, knowledge (r = .340, p < 0.001) and subjective norm (r = .318, p < 0.001) were known as important predictors of intention to consume fast foods - In addition, based on regression analyses, intention (r = .215, p < 0.05), perceived behavioral control (r = .205, p < 0.05), and knowledge (r = .127, p < 0.05) were related to fast food consumption, and these relationships were statistically significant.ConclusionsThe current study showed that the TPB is a good theory in predicting intent to use fast food and the actual behavior. It is supposed that health educators use from the present study results in designing appropriate interventions to improve nutritional status of students.

Fast Food Consumption Behavior in Adolescents

The nutritional needs of adolescents need to be considered because during adolescence there is rapid growth and development. Unhealthy eating habits will affect the nutritional intake of adolescents. Unhealthy foods such as fast food are consumed by teenagers. At a time when everything is as modern as it is now, teenagers want everything fast-paced, including choosing food fast food is also kn own to the public as junk food. Junk food is defined as junk food or food that has no nutrition for the body. Eating junk food is not only useless but can also be detrimental to health. Fast food comes from western countries which generally have high fat and calorie content. Descriptive research method with a qualitative approach to the method of phenomenology. The sample in this study was four (4) students consisting of one grade 1 high school, two grade 2 high school students, and 1 grade 3 senior high school student. This study wants to explore the phenomena experienced by students in consuming fast food. Many factors influence teenagers to consume fast food. These factors are discussed based on research articles and book references. Factors that influence the consumption of fast food include taste, price, comfortable place, and the influence of peers. Fast food can increase the risk of several diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and blood lipid disorders or dyslipidemia. Obesity or overweight is experienced by many children, adolescents, and adults. Obesity occurs due to changing lifestyles, including eating patterns that often eat fast food. Eating fast food too often does not only lead to obesity. However, obesity experienced by a person will increase a person's risk factors for suffering from other degenerative diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and stroke.

PENGARUH KONSUMSI FAST FOOD DENGAN KEJADIAN OBESITAS PADA REMAJA DI INDRAMAYU

Fast food is characterized by an imbalanced nutritional content. Most are high in calories, but very low in fiber. Fast food is a major factor affecting obesity. Based on the 2013 Riskesdas the prevalence of obesity was 28.9%, while the results of the 2018 Riskesdas data showed that the prevalence of obesity had reached 52.8%. Based on these data, it is known that there is an increase in obesity cases by 1.36%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fast food consumption and obesity in adolescents. This research method uses analytical research design with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used accidental sampling with a total of 94 samples calculated using the Slovin formula. The research instrument used a questionnaire, research sites in vocational high schools in Indramayu District in 2019. The analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis was carried out by using the Chi-Square Test. The results of this study indicate that there is an effect between consumption of fast food and the incidence of obesity with a value of P = 0.000. The next researcher should examine family support and the school environment for fast food consumption behavior in teenagers.

Exploring the Underlying Factors for Fast Food Consumption Behavior among Adolescents: A Qualitative Study

Background: Overweight and obesity cause different disorders such as high blood pressure, inflammation, and cardiovascular diseases. So it becomes a major factor for enhancing different mortal diseases. Due to the high tendency to consume fast food among adolescents, this study aims to identify the causes of adolescent’s desire for and fast food consumption.&#x0D; Methods: An interview was carried out with some adolescents to explore the reasons and their consumption rate.&#x0D; Results: The main factors promoting fast food consumption in students can be divided into 4 categories. Also, the students’ motivation in fast food ingestion can be explained in personal, social, and educational reasons.&#x0D; Conclusion: Increasing number of fast food restaurants, peer pressure, parents’ role in choosing proper nutrition, and lack of knowledge about the risks of fast food are the main reasons for increased fast food consumption in adolescents.

Fast Food Consumption Behavior among Young Parents: A Qualitative Study with Special Reference to Selected Franchised Fast Food Restaurants Within the Colombo City in Sri Lanka.

Fast food consumption has been a growing trend mainly in the western world for nearly three decades. Families with young children are a major consumer segment of this industry. The purpose of this research was to improve our understanding of family behavior in restaurants by utilizing an ethnographic study of young parents (having children of 2 to 12 years of age) dining in selected fast food restaurants. The problem area being reflected through this research paper is to identify the constructs influencing the role of young parents in this rapidly growing fast-food industry. This research adopted a direct unobtrusive observation to gather qualitative data of a sample of 50 young parents, sampled with the use of purposive sampling technique and thematic analysis to analyze the observations. Food ordering process took around 4-5 min and technoference was not visible to be significant. Minimum personal technology usage by children and moderate usage of restaurant play areas were identified. The kids’ meal were recognized to be not imposing a great influence towards restaurant selection. An emergent model is introduced with four independent variables, family decision making, family interactions, technology usage and the usage of play area and the restaurant provided toy affecting the young parents’ dining behavior.

Determiners of fast-food consumption in Iranian university students: Application of prototype/willingness model.

BACKGROUND:Today, marked by advanced scientific approach, urbanism, and changing life style, there is an ever-growing rate of fast-food consumption, which has significantly affected public health. Hence, the present research aimed to predict factors involved in fast-food consumption in light of the prototype/willingness model among the students of Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences.MATERIALS AND METHODS:In the present descriptive/analytical research conducted in 2018–2019, 350 students in Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences were selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The required data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire in light of the constructs within the prototype/willingness model and fast-food consumption behavior. The data were analyzed in SPSS version 16.0 using descriptive and inferential statistics including mean scores, standard deviation, correlation coefficient, and linear regression.RESULTS:Behavioral intention of fast-food consumption showed to be positively correlated with positive willingness, positive prototype, positive subjective norms, and positive attitude toward fast-food consumption. Furthermore, the correlation between positive behavioral intention of consuming fast food and positive subjective norms and positive attitude toward fast-food consumption was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The underlying constructs of prototype/willingness model altogether managed to explain 13% of the total variance of fast-food consumption behavior. Behavioral intention showed to be the strongest predictor of the behavior (β = 1.613).CONCLUSION:It is suggested that the preventive measures aimed to reduce fast-food consumption among the youth focus more on strengthening negative attitudes and subjective norms concerning fast-food consumption.

Determinants of Fast Food Consumption among Students of Tehran: Application of Planned Behavior Theory

Background Today, lifestyle changes have led to increasing fast food consumption. Regarding importance of nutrition in adolescence, the present study aimed to identify determinants of fast food consumption using theory of planned behavior among students of guidance schools in Tehran, Iran. Materials and Methods This cross-sectional study (descriptive-analytical) was carried out using self-administered questionnaire among 768 (384 boys and 384 girls) students of grades 1, 2 and 3 in regions 2, 9 and 18 of Tehran. Sampling method in this study was randomized and multi-stage.Finally, participants were selected from 10 schools. Data was gathered using scales based on constructs of Theory of Planned Behavior. Obtained data was analyzed using SPSS software (version 16.0). Participation of students in this study was voluntary and with informed consent. Results Logistic regression confirmed the predictability of perceived behavioral control for students’ intention to fast food consumption (odds ratio [OR]: 1.02, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.01, 1.04). In addition, perceived subjective norms (OR: 1.01, 95%CI: 1.001, 1.02) and behavioral intention (OR: 1.9, 95% CI: 1.64, 2.2) predict significantly fast food consumption behavior. Conclusion Based on results, perceived behavioral control, subjective norms and intention were reported as predictors of fast food consumption, thus these constructs should be addressed in designing fast food-related educational interventions among study population.

FACTORS THAT AFFECT FAST FOOD CONSUMPTION BEHAVIOR OF STUDENTS IN SMA NEGERI “X” SURABAYA INDONESIA

ABSTRACT Background: The era of Globalization creates a consumerism condition and new lifestyle in the society. Society especially senior high school age teenagers prefer to consume fast food because it is simple and does not spend much time besides the crowded activity. Consuming fast food in often frequencies can cause negative impact for the health, such as risk of obesity and other degenerative diseases. This research aims to analyze the factors that affect fast food consumption behavior of students in SMA Negeri “X” Surabaya. Materials and Methods: This research uses quantitative research approach, observational analytic and cross sectional research design. The total of respondents are 85 students out of total population of 377 students with simple random sampling. Dependent variable is fast food consumption behavior, and independent variables are gender, allowance, behavior intention, social support, and accessibility of information. Result: The results of simple logistic regression test shows that allowance (p=0.008), behavior intention (p=0.010), and social support (p=0.000493) affect to fast food consumption behavior, but gender (p=0.201) and accessibility of information (p=0.165) do not affect to fast food consumption behavior. So, from the result the researcher will give some recommendation to decrease fast food consumption behavior. Conclusion: The school where the students study shall give health education about consuming the healthy foods and build a collaboration with Puskesmas (First Health Facility in Indonesia) and the health department to help the implementation of health promotion strategies in school. Health education aims to decrease the high frequencies of student’s fast food consumption behavior and consuming healthy foods instead. Such as, create more interesting health promotion medias for the students. In addition, parents shall do allowance monitoring and provide healthy foods for their son and daughter . Fast food consumption behaviors in high-school students based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB)

Background: Studies report inappropriate snack and junk food consumption patterns in children and young adults in Iran. The current survey was aimed to explore fast food consumption behaviors in high-school students based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was done among 500 high-school students. Samples were selected based on cluster sampling method at first and simple random at second. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire. To analyze, SPSS-16 and tests, including t-test, Chi-square, correlation coefficient and multiple regressions were used. Results: The monthly frequency of fast food consumption was 4.01. The TPB explained fast food use behaviors with R2 of 0.6, effectively. Results also represented that frequency of fast food consumption was meaningfully in line with behavioral intention (β = 0.60, P < 0.05) and subjective norms (β = 0.17, P < 0.05). Conclusion: It seems likely beneficial to consider important subjective norms (especially friends) that may strongly effect on high-school student intention to use fast food. Also students perceived behavioral control must be increased.

일부 중학생의 패스트푸드 소비형태와 식생활 라이프스타일 유형과의 관계

Abstract This study was analyzed to provide fundamental data on the relationship between fast food consumption behaviors and food-related lifestyle types. Data was collected from 268 middle students in the Incheon region through a self-administered questionnaire. A factor analysis extracted five comprising food-related lifestyle, which we named health seeking (factor 1), taste seeking (factor 2), easy seeking (factor 3), popularity seeking (factor 4) and safety seeking (factor 5). According to the results of the factor analysis, the food-related lifestyle showed that the average consumption was more than 2.95 and, 0.792 in Cronbach alpha coefficient. There were significant differences in the influence factor for the selection of fast food according to taste seeking and, popularity seeking types (p<0.05). Also, the easy seeking and safety seeking lifestyle types showed a significant differences for the reason the choosing criteria of fast food (p<0.05). Especially, the nutrition problem was of the highest importance for the health and safety seeking but an advertisement effect trend appealed more to the taste seeking, easy seeking and popularity seeking lifestyles. There were significant differences in fast food of intake frequency according to health seeking, easy seeking, popularity seeking and safety seeking types (p<0.05). A significant positive result of the internal characteristics of fast food consumption (p<0.05) was shown for the health seeking and safety seeking types. A significant positive result of the external characteristics of fast food consumption (p<0.05) was shown for the popularity seeking and safety seeking types. Factors influencing fast food consumption behaviors of middle-school students in Seoul: an application of theory of planned behaviors

Fast food is popular among children and adolescents; however, its consumption has often been associated with negative impacts on nutrition and health. This study examined current fast food consumption status among middle school students and explored factors influencing fast food consumption by applying Theory of Planned Behavior. A total of 354 (52.5% boys) students were recruited from a middle school. The subjects completed a pre-tested questionnaire. The average monthly frequency of fast food consumption was 4.05 (4.25 for boys, 3.83 for girls). As expected, fast food consumption was considered to be a special event rather than part of an everyday diet, closely associated with meeting friends or celebrating, most likely with friends, special days. The Theory of Planned Behavior effectively explained fast food consumption behaviors with relatively high R2 around 0.6. Multiple regression analyses showed that fast food consumption behavior was significantly related to behavioral intention (b = 0.61, P < 0.001) and perceived behavioral control (b = 0.19, P < 0.001). Further analysis showed that behavioral intention was significantly related to subjective norm (b = 0.15, P < 0.01) and perceived behavioral control (b = 0.56, P < 0.001). Attitude toward fast food consumption was not significantly associated with behavioral intention. Therefore, effective nutrition education programs on fast food consumption should include components to change the subjective norms of fast food consumption, especially among peers, and perceived behavioral control. Further studies should examine effective ways of changing subjective norms and possible alternatives to fast food consumption for students to alter perceived behavioral control.
