Assessing the impact of childhood and adolescent chronic plaque psoriasis on parents/caregivers using the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI): A cross-sectional study.

Background Chronic childhood diseases are a burden for paediatric patients and their caregivers. Limited data are available on the effect of paediatric psoriasis on the caregiver's well-being and quality of life. Objective To assess the impact of childhood and adolescent chronic plaque psoriasis on parents/caregivers quality of life. Methods A single-centre cross-sectional study was performed which included 102 children with psoriasis and their caregivers. Clinico-demographic data of children and socio-demographic details of primary caregivers were collected. Out of pocket expenditure for treatment was calculated for all the patients. The quality of life of children was assessed using the Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) and the caregiver's quality of life was assessed using the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI). Results CDLQI was impaired in 85.29 % of children with a median score of 7. The item 'symptoms' was most commonly affected (87.2%), followed by 'self-conscious' (70.5%) and 'treatment' (65.6%). FDLQI was impaired in 96.1% of caregivers with a median value of 11. The most affected FDLQI items were 'emotional' in 95%, followed by 'time-spent' in 78.4%. Almost 40% of patients had catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) and their FDLQI was significantly higher (p-0.014) compared to caregivers who did not experience catastrophic health expenditure. FDLQI had a positive relationship with the involvement of exposed body sites (p-0.003), CDLQI (p-0.000), treatment expense (p-0.031) and a negative correlation with duration of illness (p-0.04). Conclusion Childhood psoriasis has a negative impact on the quality of life of the children and caregivers highlighting the need for intervention strategies for both.

The Burden of Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis: Quality of Life of Patients and Their Families.

(1) Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common inflammatory skin conditions, thus having a significant impact on the quality of life (QoL) of patients and their families. We performed a survey to gather more data to help describe the burden of AD in Lithuania and to help expand the treatment plan to this important aspect of the disease. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving healthy and AD pediatric patients. The assessment instruments used were the Patient-Oriented Eczema Measure (POEM), QoL, and original questionnaires (the original questionnaire was designed by the authors to determine the demographics, medical history, and treatment methods of the respondents). (3) Results: This study included 302 participants in total: 247 AD patients (51% boys) and 55 non-AD patients (51% boys). The mean age for AD patients was 6.8 ± 4.4. years, and this was 10.5 ± 3.1 years for the control patients. A significant difference was found between the QoL questionnaire scores and the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) score for the atopic dermatitis group (QoL: 6.3 ± 5.6; FDLQI: 7.1 ± 6.9) and controls (QoL 0.5 ± 1.1; FDLQI 2.1 ± 5.9) (p = 0.000). The mean QoL questionnaire score for severe AD was 14.3 ± 6.2 (very large effect), that for moderate AD was 6.9 ± 4.4 (moderate effect), and that for mild AD was 4.4 ± 4.2 (small effect) (p = 0.000). (4) Conclusions: Our study revealed a moderate effect of AD on dermatology-related QoL in patients and their families. It has been shown that increased disease severity was associated with a greater impairment of QoL in both patients and patient's parents. The burden of AD in children and their parents is considerable and should be taken into account in the management of atopic dermatitis.

Corticosteroid fear in parents of children with atopic dermatitis.

Background: Topical corticosteroids (TCS) are the mainstay of therapy for paediatric atopic dermatitis (AD). The use of TCS is often met with fear by parents. Assessing this parental TCS fear in clinical practice is still lacking. Aim: The aim was to assess parental fear and beliefs about TCS. Furthermore, we evaluated the quality of life (QoL) of the family and the disease severity of affected children. Methods: We conducted an observational study with a cross-sectional design. Inclusion criteria were children aged 0 to 5 years with a diagnosis of AD and outpatient treatment. The outcome measures were parental fears and beliefs about TCS, assessed with the "Topical Corticosteroid Phobia Score" (TOPICOP), parental QoL evaluated with the "Family Dermatology Life Quality Index", and disease severity, assessed with the "Scoring atopic dermatitis" (SCORAD). Descriptive statistic was used to analyse the data. Results: The current study found that in 40 affected children, 25 (62.5%), suffered from mild AD, 12 (30%) children had moderate AD, and 3 (7.5%) children had severe AD. TCS fear among parents was notable (mean TOPICOP score 18.1, standard deviation (SD) 7.1). The QoL was moderately affected (mean FDLQI score 6.5, SD 2.8). Conclusions: Our study indicates that fear of TCS is prevalent. Furthermore, our data indicate that severity of TCS fear varies markedly between parents, ranging from parents with almost no fear to parents with high levels of fear. For effective education in clinical practice, the individual level of fear must be recognized and taken into account.

Comparing the Quality of Life of Patients and their Family Members with Dermatological and other Chronic Conditions, in The Bahamas

Background & Objectives: Impact of dermatological and other chronic conditions not only affects the quality of life (QoL) of patients but also that of their family members. This pilot study aimed to compare the QoL impact of dermatological and other chronic conditions on patients with the QoL impact on their family members. Methods: A cross-sectional study using validated QoL questionnaires was conducted. In the dermatological group, patients (>17 years) completed the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire, while children (4-16 years) completed the Children’s Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) questionnaire. Family members (>18 years) completed both Family Reported Outcome Measure (FROM-16) and Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) questionnaires. In the other chronic conditions group, patients (>17 years) completed the World Health Organization Quality of Life -BREF (WHOQoL-BREF) questionnaire and children (4-17 years) completed The Revised Children’s Quality of Life Questionnaire (KINDL-r: Kiddy KINDL, Kid KINDL and Kiddo KINDL). Family members completed the FROM-16 questionnaire. Data were analysed using IBM SPSS™ statistical software. Results: Forty-four participants completed the study. In the dermatological group (n=26), there was a weak negative correlation between DLQI and FDLQI scores (r= –0.23, p=0.55) not between DLQI and FROM-16 (r = –0.04, p=0.92). There was a very strong positive relationship between both CDLQI and FDLQI (r=0.83, p=0.17) and CDLQI and FROM-16 (r=0.82, p=0.18). Although not statistically significant, there may be a correlation between the FROM-16 and FDLQI scores for family members of dermatology patients. In the chronic conditions group (n=18) the mean score of WHOQoL-BREF was 90.5 (SD=13) with a significant negative inverse relationship to FROM-16 (r= –1.000, p=<0.001). The KINDL-r scores (mean=66, SD =11) showed no significant correlation (r= –0.24, p=0.61) with FROM-16 scores (mean=9.6, SD=3.7). Conclusion: The impact of a patient’s dermatological or other chronic condition can not only negatively affect the patient’s QoL but also the QoL of their family members.

Investigation of Quality of Life of Patients with Atopic Dermatitis and Quality of Life, Psychiatric Symptomatology, and Caregiver Burden of Their Mothers.

The purpose of the present research was to evaluate the quality of life of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), and that of their mothers. We compared the anxiety and depression scores and caregiving burden of mothers of patients with AD with the same scores of mothers of healthy children. A total of 153 patients between the ages of 2 months and 16 years with AD in our clinic, and their mothers, were contained in the patient group. An additional 141 healthy cases between the ages of 2 months and 16 years, and their mothers, were included as the control group. The Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) was completed according to the children's opinions, and the Infant's Dermatitis Quality of Life Index (IDLQI), Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego Autoquestionnaire, and Zarit Caregiver Burden (ZCB) scale were completed based on the mothers' opinions. We detected a positive relationship between the SCORAD index and the IDLQI, CDLQI, and FDLQI scores of children with AD. We found that anxiety, depression, and caregiving burden in mothers of AD cases increased when mothers of AD cases were compared with mothers of healthy children (p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001, and p < 0.002, respectively). Also, based on the mothers' responses, we noted a positive correlation among the BDI, BAI, ZCB, and SCORAD index scores. Our study found that the quality of life of patients with AD, and that of their mothers, was negatively affected by the disease. We also found that anxiety, depression levels (not at the clinical diagnosis level, and the caregiving burden in mothers of AD cases increased when mothers of AD cases were compared with mothers of healthy children.

Impact of Pediatric Dermatologic Conditions on Child and Parent Quality of Life.

Dermatologic conditions can confer a negative effect on pediatric patients and their caretakers. We aim to study the relationship between child and parent quality of life among various dermatoses to further understand the psychosocial impacts of dermatologic disease.We conducted a cross-sectional study of 100 pediatric patients (aged 7-18) and 98 parents who presented to the Pacific Skin Institute, Sacramento, CA, from November 2020 to January 2022. Patients and their parents were evaluated using the Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI) and Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI). The maximum score for both indices was 30, with a higher score indicating greater impairment on quality of life.From all the patients and parents identified for various dermatoses, FDLQI scores (mean, 7.8; n = 98) exceeded CDLQI scores (mean, 5.8; n = 100) in nearly every condition. Acne was the only diagnosis with greater CDLQI scores (mean, 9.2; n = 43) than FDLQI scores (mean, 8.8; n = 42). Psoriasis had the greatest difference between FDLQI scores (mean, 10.4; n = 9) and CDLQI scores (mean, 5.9; n = 9).Our study found that parents of children with dermatologic conditions often experience a greater impairment on quality of life compared to the patient. This is likely because parents are highly involved in the management of their child's condition and are burdened with the costs associated with dermatoses. These findings call for a more holistic evaluation by clinicians and the expansion of resources for patients and their parents.

We aimed to assess the QoL of adolescents with acne and their families as well as the association of QoL with acne severity, treatment response, duration of acne and localization of lesions. Material and MethodsThe sample included a total of 100 adolescents with acne vulgaris, 100 healthy controls and their parents. We collected data on sociodemographic characteristics, presentation of acne, duration of acne, treatment history, treatment response, and parental sex. We used the Global Acne Severity scale, Children’s Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI), and the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI). ResultsIn the group of patients with acne, the mean CDLQI score in the patients was 7.89 (SD, 5.43) and the mean FDLQI score in the parents was 6.01 (SD, 6.11). In the control group, the mean CDLQI score in healthy controls was 3.92 (SD, 3.88) and the mean FDLQI score in their family members was 2.12 (SD, 2.91). We found a statistically significant difference between the acne and control groups in CDLQI and FDLQI scores (P < .001). There were also statistically significant differences in the CDLQI score based on the duration of acne and the response to treatment. ConclusionsPatients with acne and their parents had a decreased QoL compared with healthy controls. Acne was associated with impaired QoL in family members. Assessing QoL in the family in addition to that of the patient may allow an improved management of acne vulgaris.

Validity And Reliability of The Thai Version of The Family Dermatology Life Quality Index

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Thai version of FDLQI. Materials and Methods: Patients and their accompanying family members attending the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic at Siriraj Hospital were asked to complete the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), FDLQI, and the global question of their QoL (GQoL). The severity of the disease was assessed by physicians, the patients and the family members of the patients. Results: One hundred family members accompanying 92 patients with dermatological diseases (63% with inflammatory skin diseases and 37% with non-inflammatory skin diseases) were included. The mean age of the family members was 43.5±12.1 years and 70% were women. They had been mostly employed (74%) and graduated from universities (65%). Validity was demonstrated by a positive correlation between FDLQI and GQoL scores (rs=0.695, P&lt;0.001), and between FDLQI and severity of the patient's disease (rs=0.578, P&lt;0.001) as evaluated by family members. The FDLQI showed high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha=0.84) and test-retest reliability (ICC= 0.85). Conclusion: The construct validity, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability of the Thai FDLQI demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability. The Thai version of FDLQI can be used to assess the QoL of family members of patients with any dermatological diseases.

Quality of life in mothers of children with psoriasis.

Patients' and their mothers' quality of life is severely affected by childhood psoriasis. Almost all children have a chronic illness that lasts until adulthood, which puts them at risk for lifelong difficulties like stigma, psychiatric comorbidity, and suicide. Evaluation of the effects of childhood psoriasis on the mothers' quality of life was the project's primary objective. 100 mothers of children with various kinds of psoriasis participated in the study. The Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) was used to evaluate the mothers' quality of life. The mother's FDLQI score was between 3 and 25, with a mean of 13. In terms of how the FDLQI was interpreted, 8 moms had an incredibly enormous impact, 63 mothers had a very significant impact, 26 mothers had a moderate impact, and 3 mothers had a modest impact. We discovered a substantial direct link between the mother's FDLQI and the children's PASI scores. Furthermore, we discovered that scalp and pustular psoriasis had the highest FDLQI scores, indicating a poor quality of life. Both the quality of life for affected children and their cares may be negatively impacted by childhood psoriasis. Study of the impact of atopic dermatitis in children on the quality of life of families

Background. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, relapsing eczema. Although atopic dermatitis occurs mainly in children, it greatly affects the life of the whole family. The purpose was to assess the quality of life of the families of children with atopic dermatitis and to study the correlation between the severity of atopic dermatitis and the quality of life of family members according to the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) questionnaire. Materials and methods. The study included 104 patients with atopic dermatitis aged 6 months to 17 years (median of 6 [3; 9] years) who were treated at the Allergy Department of the Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital 2. Clinical parameters included age, sex of the patients, disease duration and severity of atopic dermatitis. The latter was assessed by the SCORing for Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) tool. Spearman’s rank correlation index was used for analysis of correlation between FDLQI and SCORAD indicators. Р &lt; 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results. The quality of life of the family of 104 children with atopic dermatitis was assessed using the FDLQI questionnaire. Four parents (3.8 %) reported no impact of the disease on the family’s quality of life, 65 (62.5 %) — a mild effect, 34 (32.7 %) — a moderate impact, parents of 1 patient (1.0 %) noted a very large effect. The average FDLQI was 6.4 ± 2.8. There was a correlation between the FDLQI and the SCORAD severity index (Ro = 0.714, p &lt; 0.01). In the subgroup of children under 4 years of age, a strong correlation between the FDLQI and the SCORAD was found (Ro = 0.789, p &lt; 0.01). Child’s age and disease duration were not associated with the quality of life score (Ro = –0.011, p &gt; 0.05 and Ro = 0.076, p &gt; 0.05, respectively). In the subgroup of children aged 4–17 years, a strong positive correlation of FDLQI and the SCORAD was also determined (Ro = 0.714, p &lt; 0.01). The age of the children and the duration of the disease were not related to the quality of life score (Ro = –0.011, p &gt; 0.05 and Ro = –0.027, p &gt; 0.05, respectively), although in the subgroup of younger children (4–7 years) we noted a tendency towards a greater influence of the disease on the family’s quality of life. Conclusion. In this study, most parents of children with atopic dermatitis reported a mild to moderate impact of the disease on their quality of life. The FDLQI of family members correlated with the severity of atopic dermatitis.

The relationship between atopic dermatitis and atopic itch in children and the psychosocial functioning of their mothers: A cross-sectional study.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease significantly affecting patients' and their parents' lives. Mothers are mostly responsible for the long-term treatment and their wellbeing is essential. The major objective of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the relationship between atopic dermatitis in children, especially concomitant itch, and the quality of life, stress, sleep quality, anxiety, and depression of their mothers. The study included 88 mothers of children with atopic dermatitis and 52 mothers of children without atopic dermatitis. All mothers completed sociodemographic questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale, the Athens Insomnia Scale and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Additionally, mothers of children with atopic dermatitis filled in the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index. The severity of atopic dermatitis and pruritus intensity were evaluated by the Scoring Atopic Dermatitis Index and the Numerical Rating Scale, respectively. The severity of atopic dermatitis and itch significantly correlated with the quality of life, insomnia, and perceived stress of the mothers. Mothers whose children had had atopic dermatitis for more than 6 months had significantly higher scores of anxiety and depression. The results highlight the importance of screening mothers for functional impairment to provide adequate support. More attention should be directed to the standardization of stepped care interventions addressing factors resulting in the impaired functioning of mothers.

Strategies for coping with stress in mothers of children with atopic dermatitis - a cross-sectional study.

Our previous study showed that the severity of atopic dermatitis (AD) in children significantly correlates with the quality of life and perceived stress in their mothers. To compare strategies for coping with stress in mothers of children with and without AD, as well as to investigate the relationship between coping strategies of mothers of affected children and AD variables, stress intensity, and quality of life. The study included 88 mothers of children with AD and 57 mothers of children without AD as controls. The severity of skin lesions in children with AD was assessed by the Scoring Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) index, and skin itch was evaluated by the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). All mothers completed the sociodemographic questionnaire (SD), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Coping Orientations to Problems Experienced (COPE) scale. Additionally, mothers of children with AD filled out the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI). There were no statistically significant differences in coping strategies between the groups. However, there were significant correlations between the selected coping strategies and AD severity, perceived stress of mothers, and quality of life of the entire family of affected children. Although mothers of children with AD experience higher levels of stress compared with mothers of children without AD, the disease does not change coping strategies. Psychological support for mothers of children with AD should be oriented toward strengthening cognitive coping strategies.

Sexual Dysfunction and Quality of Life in Patients with Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Their Partners.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin disease that profoundly affects patients' quality of life (QoL) and sexuality. Few data are available on the impact of HS on patients' partners. We aimed to explore the QoL and sexual function of patients' partners and the factors associated with their impairment and to compare the QoL and sexual function of single patients and those in a stable relationship. We conducted a cross-sectional study at Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves (Granada, Spain) and at the Wroclaw Medical University (Wroclaw, Poland). Patients over the age of 16 years attending their scheduled follow-up and their partners, if any, were included. The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) were used to estimate the QoL of patients and partners, respectively. The FSFI-6 was used to determine sexual dysfunction in women and the IIEF-5 for erectile dysfunction in men. Thirty-four single patients and twenty-eight patients in a stable relationship and their partners were included. Patients had a very large impact (DLQI 12.5 ± 7.5) and their partners a moderate impact (FDLQI 10.3 ± 7.1) in their QoL due to HS. Women with HS had a high prevalence of sexual dysfunction (13/32, 40.6%) and men of erectile dysfunction (19/30, 63.3%). Male partners also had a high prevalence of erectile dysfunction (10/17, 58.8%), while only one female partner had sexual dysfunction (1/11, 9.1%). Factors related to disease severity, intensity of symptoms and body mass index were associated with poorer QoL in partners and time of disease evolution with greater erectile dysfunction in male partners. In conclusion, HS not only profoundly affects the QoL and sexuality of patients but also of their partners. Several risk factors have been identified, which should be taken into account in the holistic approach of the disease.

Dermatology Quality of Life Index scores in Bangladeshi patients with atopic eczema and their families in East London.

Atopic eczema (AE) is a chronic relapsing, pruritic disease that greatly affects the child and family's quality of life (QoL). It is usually common and severe among children of Bangladeshi ethnicity. This is a cross-sectional quantitative study in patients with AE of Bangladeshi origin, which aims to analyse different components of the family, children and adult quality-of-life indices and their relationship to patient age, sex, eczema severity and distribution, other allergic associations, parental education and socioeconomic level. Children and young adults of Bangladeshi origin aged 0-30 years, clinically diagnosed with AE were recruited as part of the Tower Hamlets Eczema Assessment project, a clinical phenotyping study of AE in the Bangladeshi population living in East London. Questionnaires completed by children/parents included the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI), Infant's Dermatology Quality of Life (IDQOL) and the Children's Dermatology Life Quality Index (CDLQI). Young adults completed the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). The disease severity was assessed objectively using the Eczema Area Severity Index (EASI). Patients and parents who did not read or speak English were aided by Bengali/Sylheti-speaking research assistants. Overall, 460 Bangladeshi children and 98 adults with AE were recruited. Burden of care, extra housework and emotional distress were the highest affected domains in parental QoL, while itching and sleep were the highest for children. Significant factors influencing FDLQI score were EASI [marginal effect (ME) 1.01, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.00-1.03; P = 0.004], age (ME 0.98, 95% CI 0.97-0.99; P = 0.004), extensor eczema distribution (ME 1.25, 95% CI 1.03-1.52; P = 0.023), parental English fluency (ME 1.29, 95% CI 1.10-1.52; P = 0.002) and atopic comorbidities (ME 1.10, 95% CI 1.04-1.17; P = 0.001). Parental socioeconomic class was a nonsignificant factor. IDQOL/CDLQI was influenced significantly by the child's age (ME 0.99, 95% CI 0.97-1.00, P = 0.023), 'nonclear' eczema distribution clusters especially the 'severe extensive' cluster (ME 1.46, 95% CI 1.15-1.84; P = 0.002) and nonsignificantly by EASI and parental English literacy and socioeconomic levels. DLQI was affected significantly by nonclear eczema distribution groups especially 'severe extensive' (ME 2.49, 95% 1.76-3.53; P < 0.001) and nonsignificantly by patient age, and female sex. AE is a chronic disease where many external factors other than disease severity affect QoL of patients and their families, -especially in under-represented minority groups who face different linguistic and cultural barriers.

Caregivers of melanoma patients were recruited at the melanoma unit of our hospital. The impact on caregivers' QoL was measured using the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI). Data were collected for 120 caregivers, of whom 51.7% were men and the mean age was 56.9 years. Breslow thickness of melanoma was <0.8 mm in 70.8% of cases. Mean FDLQI score was 5.7 (SD: 2.4). Among the single items of the FDLQI, the highest mean score corresponded to emotional distress. The impact on QoL was greater when the caregiver was a son/daughter, and increased relative to the age of the patient and number of years since diagnosis. To our knowledge, this is the first study to quantitatively evaluate the impact of melanoma on caregivers. Such impact was not negligible and mostly concerned emotional aspects. Caregivers need to be supported by structured educational and psychological interventions.

388 Impact of crisaborole & tacrolimus 0.03% on patient-reported outcomes and caregiver burden in children with atopic dermatitis

Poor quality of life (QoL) is common in children with atopic dermatitis (AD) and their caregivers. This study used patient-reported outcomes (PROs) to monitor the impact of crisaborole (CRIS) and tacrolimus 0.03% (TAC) on children (2-15 years) with mild/moderate AD and on caregiver burden. This open-label study randomized 47 child-caregiver dyads to CRIS or TAC for 12 weeks. Disease severity (Eczema Area & Severity Index [EASI], % body surface area, Investigator Global Assessment [IGA]), QoL (Children’s Dermatology Life Quality Index, Family Dermatology Life Quality Index), itch (PROMIS Peds Itch-Short Form), anxiety (PROMIS Anxiety-Peds), pain interference (PROMIS Pain Interference-Peds), depression (PROMIS Depression-Peds), sleep (Children’s Sleep Habits Questionnaire), and caregiver burden (Caregiver Burden Inventory) were assessed at baseline, 6 and 12 weeks.

Secukinumab improves the quality‐of‐life of family members and partners of people with psoriasis: Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) results from a randomised open‐label study (SIGNATURE)

AbstractBackgroundThe Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) was developed to meet a need for a dermatology‐specific family member/partner quality‐of‐life (QoL) measure. This paper focuses on the analysis and interpretation of FDLQI data (used as an exploratory outcome) collected in the SIGNATURE study.ObjectivesTo measure the impact of secukinumab therapy for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis on the QoL of family members/partners of patients.MethodsRandomised, open‐label, non‐comparator study in 53 dermatology centres in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Patients received secukinumab 300 or 150 mg subcutaneously weekly for 4 weeks, then 4‐weekly.FDLQI ResultsFamily members of PASI 75 responders and non‐responders showed improved FDLQI compared to baseline, greater for responders. There was a high level of correlation between FDLQI and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) scores and positive correlations across all mapped FDLQI and DLQI questions, and a close association between the scales at all timepoints. The estimated FDLQI scores were consistently 56% of those obtained for DLQI. There was an improvement for all FDLQI questions at Week 16 with a mean total score change of 8.2. Most family member subjects had an improved score for all FDLQI questions (75%–91%, Week 12, and 77%–91%, Week 16). Family subjects with a corresponding patient visit DLQI score &gt;10 improved for all FDLQI questions at Week 16 (mean total score change of 5.2).ConclusionsSuccessful therapy for severe psoriasis greatly improved QoL of family members/partners. The FDLQI questionnaire responds well and appropriately to major changes in the disease severity of those affected by plaque psoriasis.

Severity of disease and the quality of life indexes in infants with atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory skin disease. In this study, the relationship between the severity of AD and the quality of life (QoL) of patients and their families were evaluated; also, the factors that predict the severity of AD and the QoL index were determined. Infants with AD were enrolled in the study. Pruritus, sleep disturbance, and dermatitis severity scores were obtained. The QoL of infants was assessed using the Infants' Dermatitis Quality of Life Index (IDQOL), while the Family Dermatology Life Quality Index (FDLQI) was used to assess the impact of disease on the QoL of parents. 122 patients diagnosed with AD were enrolled in the study. The correlation analysis of score showed a positive correlation between IDQOL and FDLQI (r = 0.444, p < 0.0001). Positive correlations between the pruritus, sleep disturbance, Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD), Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI), and dermatitis severity scores and the QoL indexes were found. While pruritus, sleep disturbance scores, and EASI were the most significant parameters for predicting a severe SCORAD score, IDOQL, FDLQI, and SCORAD were the most significant parameters for predicting severe EASI. In the analysis of QoL indexes, sleep disturbance and FDLQI were the most significant parameters for predicting severe IDQOL index, while IDQOL was the most significant parameter for predicting severe FDLQI scores. AD has a negative effect on the QoL of infants and their parents. Pruritus and sleep disturbance should be evaluated during clinical practice due to their strong relationship with disease severity and QoL index.
