Objectives The current study attempts to explore the work-family conflict experienced by working parents providing primary care for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDDs) in India. Methods A qualitative research design was utilized. A semi-structured interview of 20 working parents was carried out and was subjected to Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Results Based on the responses from the one-on-one interview, it was revealed that working parents experienced overlapping work-related issues, family-related issues, caregiving-related issues, and physical and emotional exhaustion impacting their work, family, and caregiving domains. Conclusions Working parents of children with NDDs experience work-family conflict in which caregiving duties, work responsibilities, and family demands interfere with one another substantially. Based on their responses, a few caregiver-friendly workplace policies were formulated. The present findings would enable policymakers to formulate caregiver-friendly workplace policies to assist family caregivers.
