The study's main focus is on analyzing the geographical distribution and trends of India's primary drinking water sources. This study is based on secondary data acquired from the NSS 76th cycle, July 2018–December 2018, NSS Report No-584, Drinking Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Housing Conditions in India. According to an examination of access to the primary sources of drinking water in India, tap water is available to nearly 44% of households, followed by handpump/tubewell (41%), other sources (8%), and bottled water (7%). Goa has the largest number of families, around 97%, that have access to tap water as their primary source of drinking water. In terms of Union Territories, Chandigarh ranks top with 100% tap water availability for all homes. As far as the urban India scenario is concerned, 65 percent of families in urban areas have access to clean drinking water from taps. Mizoram leads all states (almost 99 percent) in terms of tap water access to homes as the primary source of drinking water in urban India.
