Event Abstract Back to Event Early intervention for cognitive decline Eline Dekens1, 2, 3*, Marijke Miatton1, 2, 3, Anne Sieben2, Patrick Santens1, 2 and Paul Boon1, 2, 3 1 Ghent University, Belgium 2 University Hospital Ghent, Belgium 3 Laboratory for Clinical and Experimental Neurophysiology, Neurobiology and Neuropsychology, Belgium Patients with MCI have a high risk for developing dementia. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors aimed at enhancing cognitive functions have a statistically significant effect, but their effect size is limited to modest and transient improvements. This finding oblige health systems to find new ways of intervening in early stages. In this pilot study, 3 aMCI patients received an 8 week cognitive training intervention (CT), based on internal and external memory strategies. All subjects improved on free recall and subjective memory performance. These results support the hypothesis that CT can enhance memory performance and should be further investigated as an early intervention method.
