PRIORITY DIRECTIONS OF CREATING A BARRIER-FREE ENVIRONMENT IN PENAL INSTITUTIONS AND DETENTION CENTERS IN THE ASSESSMENT OF EMPLOYEES OF THE STATE CRIMINAL-EXECUTIVE SERVICE OF UKRAINE

The study is dedicated to finding out the vision of employees of penal institutions and pretrial detention centers of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine, whose duties are related to working with people with disabilities, priority directions for creating a barrier-free environment in penal institutions and pretrial detention centers. Eighty-eight research participants were united into four focus groups; the task of each was, based on their own work experience, assessments the relevance of problems related to the maintenance of persons with disabilities in the penal institutions, as well as the available capabilities of the institutions, to form a list the most priority directions and methods of barrier-free environment creation. The content analysis and generalization of the obtained data showed that additional socio-psychological support, removal of physical barriers on the territory and in the buildings of institutions, and ensuring the availability of physical support services by specially trained personnel and other convicts turned out to be the most priority areas of barrier-free implementation in the participants’ evaluations. At the same time, several important directions, such as the elimination of informational, economic, and educational barriers, were not included in the lists of most groups, which, according to the authors, may indicate both an underestimation of these components of barrier-freeness by the study participants and lack of opportunities for their implementation. Development of psychological and pedagogical programs and formation of the readiness of the State Criminal-Executive Service staff and selected convicts to provide physical support services to persons with disabilities, including barrier-free communication skills, monitoring the special needs of convicts and prisoners with disabilities, according to the authors, along with other measures, will contribute to the purposeful implementation of the Strategy for the introduction of barrier-free access in places of deprivation of liberty. LA PERSONERÍA JURÍDICA: ¿UN TRÁMITE DONDE SE VISLUMBRAN CATEGORÍAS AHISTÓRICAS? UN ANÁLISIS DESDE LA ANTROPOLOGÍA SOCIAL

In Argentina, there are still certain views on indigenous peoples that have their origins in essentialist arguments built since the formation of the nation state in the 19th century. These are supported by the media, common sense and public policies that directly affect these groups. This paper invites us to question such notions. To do so, we will review the main historical facts and policies that have affected the indigenous populations in Argentina. In order to think about the analytical categories that are still in force about the indigenous populations of the country, at present and in relation to a specific case, the application for legal status in Argentina will be analyzed. This is a procedure to obtain state recognition as an indigenous community, which is usually necessary in order to be able to make different requests. For this purpose, the experience of collaborative work with the Mapuche Kalfulafken community of Carhué, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, which applied for its legal status in 2019 and which took more than three years to be approved, will be taken up again. The approach of this research was carried out from the perspective of social anthropology and ethnography.

Weathering the Storm

The provision of palliative care has been seen to have a significant impact on the interprofessional health care team. Being emotionally present to support patients and families at their most stressful points in life can result in compassion satisfaction or compassion fatigue. Providing palliative care through the COVID-19 pandemic added another layer of complexity to this professional caregiving experience. Although efforts have been made by employers to support health care providers in the practices of self-care and mindfulness, the true experience of care providers was not known. This study was conducted from June 2020 to October 2020 to better understand the experiences of physicians, nurses, social workers, and spiritual care providers who were providing palliative care during the first wave of the pandemic. Twenty-five participants completed the Professional Quality of Life (The Concise ProQOL Manual: The Concise Manual for the Professional Quality of Life Scale) measure and open-ended questions to evaluate their experiences as health care providers. The findings resulted in an overarching theme of “Weathering the Storm” with 6 themes describing the experiences of the interprofessional team.

Clinical gerontological nursing competence among licensed practical nurses in healthcare services—A descriptive cross‐sectional study

AbstractAimThis study aimed to describe self‐assessed clinical gerontological nursing competence and its associated factors among licensed practical nurses.DesignA descriptive cross‐sectional design was adopted for the study.MethodsData were collected in Autumn 2023 from 394 licensed practical nurses working in healthcare services for older people in one well‐being services county in Finland. The nurses, recruited through convenience sampling, were surveyed using a 40‐item self‐assessment clinical gerontological nursing competence instrument (on a Likert scale from 1 = poor to 5 = excellent). Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyse the results.ResultsParticipants mainly assessed their clinical gerontological competence as good. Competence in using assistive devices to support functional ability was assessed as very good, while competence in postoperative wound care was assessed as the weakest. Participants working in 24‐h services assessed their competence as the weakest among the three clinical gerontological nursing areas. Participants under 40 years of age with 5–10 years of work experience self‐assessed statistically significantly stronger competence in disease‐specific nursing than those over 40 with less work experience.ConclusionThe self‐assessed competence of licensed practical nurses varies across different service and care units. Competence in wound care requires more focus and education in the future. Attention should also be paid to competence development in different educational areas, for example, through continuous education and competence development models. The results could facilitate licensed practical nurses' competence development and management in clinical gerontological nursing. The study's insights can also guide allocating resources and education to ensure high‐quality care in different service areas.

How does colonial history matter for expatriate adjustment? The case of Brazilians in Portugal

AbstractThe literature on expatriation typically assumes that cultural and institutional familiarity facilitates expatriate adjustment. This assumption underplays the role of the historical context, especially the influence of painful colonial pasts that often lie beneath such familiarity. In addition, seeking to capture expatriate adjustment as a single measure, such literature does not engage with the differences in the extent to which expatriates achieve cognitive, behavioral, and affective adjustment. Using a qualitative study addressing the work experiences of Brazilians living in Portugal, we argue that to fully understand expatriate adjustment, we must pay attention to the historical colonial relationship between the expatriate’s home and host country. Specifically, we discuss the importance of social representations of history for how expatriates narrate, interpret, and act in response to their experiences. Our research makes two theoretical contributions. First, we explain how historical colonial relationships affect expatriate adjustment and how this leads to adjustment only being partial. Second, we develop a nuanced understanding of expatriate adjustment by drawing attention to its three interdependent dimensions (cognitive, behavioral, and affective), showing that an expatriate may be well adjusted in one dimension but less adjusted in another. We call for organizations to engage more, and more critically, with history.

The Welfare System in the Face of War Refugees From Ukraine: The Experience of Social Workers in Poland

ABSTRACTThis article explores the experiences of social workers in Poland assisting Ukrainian War refugees in the immediate aftermath of the Russian invasion in 2022. It adopts a ‘culture of disaster’ framework, positioning social workers as professionals responding to macro‐level crises and disasters. The research is based on a quantitative survey (computer‐assisted web interview [CAWI]) of social workers in municipalities with the highest refugee populations (N = 402). The article shows that the majority of social workers were primarily involved in an emergency response, focusing on meeting basic social needs. However, their involvement in social inclusion and advocacy was significantly less common. Social workers reported high levels of community support and valued working with local communities. The research highlights the challenges faced during the crisis, including professional overload, inadequate regulatory frameworks and the perception of local welfare centres as the only support structures for refugees.

Machine Learning Supporting Virtual Reality and Brain–Computer Interface to Assess Work–Life Balance Conditions for Employees

The widespread adoption of the Industry 5.0 paradigm puts people and their applications at the center of attention and, with the increasing automation and robotization of work, the need for workers to acquire new, more advanced skills increases. The development of artificial intelligence (AI) means that expectations for workers are further raised. This leads to the need for multiple career changes from life and throughout life. Belonging to a previous generation of workers makes this retraining even more difficult. The authors propose the use of machine learning (ML), virtual reality (VR) and brain–computer interface (BCI) to assess the conditions of work–life balance for employees. They use machine learning for prediction, identifying users based on their subjective experience of work–life balance. This tool supports intelligent systems in optimizing comfort and quality of work. The potential effects could lead to the development of commercial industrial systems that could prevent work–life imbalance in smart factories for Industry 5.0, bringing direct economic benefits and, as a preventive medicine system, indirectly improving access to healthcare for those most in need, while improving quality of life. The novelty is the use of a hybrid solution combining traditional tests with automated tests using VR and BCI. This is a significant contribution to the health-promoting technologies of Industry 5.0.

Mentalizing Care: Adult Attachment and Structural Factors as Predictors of Representational Mind-Mindedness in Early Child-Care Professionals.

Out-of-home childcare is increasingly essential in many children's lives, significantly impacting their wellbeing and development. Central to high-quality care is the concept of caregiver mind-mindedness (MM), the ability to recognize a child as a unique psychological individual with thoughts, feelings, intentions etc., as this capacity is linked with more optimal responsiveness to children's needs. Despite its importance, the factors influencing MM in professional caregivers remain under-researched. We examined the association between structural factors, self-reported adult attachment, and caregiver representational MM assessed in an interview. The sample consisted of 128 childcare professionals from 30 Danish early childcare centers (children aged 0-2.9 years), participating in a randomized controlled trial. Overall, our results showed that longer employment in the current position was associated with higher levels of representational MM, i.e., increased tendency to describe children in terms of their mental states as opposed to more behavioral or external features. In contrast, more years of experience working in childcare as well as attachment-related avoidance were associated with lower levels of representational MM. These results indicate that personal characteristics, like adult attachment, may be a relevant focus for early education and care research and training.

This study aims to assess the current capacity, challenges and needs of capacity building of agricultural extension workers in Bac Kan province under the context of climate change. The research was conducted during 2021-2022, using semi-structured questionnaires for face-to-face interviews with 17 leaders and 59 staff members of agricultural extension agencies in the province. Results show that the agricultural extension workforce of Bac Kan province has advantages in terms of qualifications and work experience. Nonetheless, they also encountered a number of challenges under the context of increasingly changing environment. These include: (1) passivity in guiding production and technical transfer activities, (2) difficulties in pest and disease forecast and management, (3) increased workload; and (4) their communication and/or community outreach activities face many challenges, especially in localities with ethnic minorities, scattered housing locations, and difficult travel access. Most of the agricultural extension workers have not been trained in both agricultural extension methods and climate change adaptation. Technical climate-resilient production manuals (for both crops and livestock), effective communication methods and information sharing networks among agricultural extension officers were considered the main learning resources that they desired to be equipped to effectively carry out their tasks under the context of climate change.

Knowledge, attitude and practice of pediatric healthcare staff towards the therapy for patients with congenital heart disease.

This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of pediatric healthcare staff towards the therapy for patients with congenital heart disease (CHD). CHD is a major global health concern, posing significant risks to health and life despite advancements in early detection and treatment. This web-based cross-sectional study was conducted from May 04, 2023 to August 12, 2023 in the Bengbu area (three counties and one city) for pediatric healthcare staff. Correlations between knowledge, attitude and practice scores were evaluated by Pearson correlation analysis. Factors associated with knowledge, attitude and practice scores were identified by multivariate logistic regression. A total of 332 valid questionnaires were enrolled, including 258 (77.7%) females, and 161 (48.5%) were pediatrician. The median (25% quartile, 75% quintile) of knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 38 (36, 40) (possible range: 10-49), 28 (27, 31) (possible range: 7-35), and 35 (32, 39) (possible range: 9-45), respectively. Correlation analysis showed that significant positive correlations were found between knowledge and attitude (r = 0.528, P < 0.001), as well as practice (r = 0.399, P < 0.001). Meanwhile, there were also correlations between attitudes and practice (r = 0.528, P < 0.001). Univariate logistic regression showed that treated more than 100 children with congenital heart disease annually (OR = 2.976, 95% CI: 1.405, 6.303, P = 0.004) was independently associated with knowledge. Female (OR = 0.470, 95% CI: 0.277, 0.797, P = 0.005) and with more than 5years of work experience (OR = 0.507, 95% CI: 0.262, 0.982, P = 0.044) were independently associated with attitude. Female (OR = 0.584, 95% CI: 0.343, 0.994, P = 0.048) and treated more than 100 children with congenital heart disease annually (OR = 3.743, 95% CI: 1.702, 8.232, P = 0.001) were independently associated with practice. Pediatric healthcare staff had sufficient knowledge, positive attitude and proactive practice towards the therapy for patients with congenital heart disease. To improve clinical practice, prioritize training programs to build knowledge and positive attitudes among healthcare staff, encourage hands-on experience with CHD cases, and promote mentorship by experienced professionals for a collaborative work environment and better care.

Night Shift Work and Sleep Experiences in Older Night Shift Nurses.

Working at night leads to misalignment between the biological clock and the work/sleep schedule, resulting in sleepiness and impaired performance during the night shift and poor quality, shortened sleep during the day; this is greatly impaired in older individuals. To describe night work and sleep experiences from the perspective of older (aged 50-65) nurses. Seven virtual focus groups were formed comprising 19 older nurses who worked regular 8-hour night shifts (at least 6 consecutive hours between midnight and 6 am) to learn about their shift work and sleep experiences. Two facilitators and 2 research assistants independently reviewed and coded the transcripts using qualitative content analysis. Nine themes were identified in 3 domains: (a) night shift challenges and difficulties, including first night shift is most difficult; never feel rested working nights; and personal health concerns and benefits from working nights; (b) sleep challenges and difficulties, including inconsistent sleep timing when switching between nights and days; extended (24+ hours) time awake before and after consecutive nights; difficulty maintaining long and sound daytime sleep; and napping before night shifts for better performance; and (c) family and social challenges and support, including childcare, family, personal obligations, and social activities affect sleep; aging of self and children influences sleep and prioritization of sleep. The findings help understand challenges and struggles to obtain adequate sleep and safe work performance in older night shift nurses. These insignts are critical for designing and implementing feasible and acceptable interventions to improve sleep in this high-risk occupational group.

Unethical conduct as a multifaceted phenomenon in psychiatric care: Nurse leaders' perspectives.

Background: Mental healthcare can be considered a unique practice due to its ethical characteristics, and an awareness of ethics is crucial when working in a mental health setting. Several ethical challenges exist, and professionals may not always recognize the ethical aspects of psychiatric care. Research on psychiatric care from nurse leaders' perspective is scarce but important, because nurse leaders can impact and cultivate workplace culture. Aim: To explore the phenomenon of unethical conduct in a psychiatric inpatient context from nurse leaders' perspectives. Research design: Qualitative exploratory design. In-depth semi-structured interviews. Participants and research context: Eight nurse leaders from two different healthcare organizations in Finland. Leadership experience ranged between 2 and 30 years. Ethical considerations: Research ethics permission was received from a Research Ethics Board where the researchers are domiciled. Guidelines on good scientific practice as delineated by the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity TENK were followed. Findings: Six main categories were generated: Unethical conduct and violations against patients, Unethical conduct and violations against staff, Unethical conduct and violations by staff against other staff, Unethical conduct and violations against leaders, Reasons underlying unethical conduct, and Consequences of unethical conduct and the positive development of psychiatric care. Conclusions: Unethical conduct was seen to be a multifaceted phenomenon, and patients and staff alike can experience and engage in unethical conduct. Unethical conduct against patients was linked to power imbalance (nature of involuntary care, staff attitudes) and a focus on rules based in historical precedent (paternalistic, routine-focused, not patient-centered). Unethical conduct against staff was linked to the nature of involuntary care and patient ill-health. Unethical conduct by staff against other staff was linked to a lack of understanding for others' work, interpersonal chemistry, (length of) work experience, and staff character. Unethical conduct against leaders was linked to leaders being perceived as the organization.

Reconceptualizing Teachers as First Responders

This conceptual paper builds upon prior ideas of teacher work in the United States to include the role of “first responder” and highlights how this idea can change the current approach to understanding their work experience. We answer the following questions: 1. Why should we include first-responders as part of our conceptualization of teachers and the work that they do? 2. How would this reconceptualization change how we currently understand the nature of the teacher work experience? This paper expands upon existing literature of teachers, especially those who work with vulnerable populations.

Patient hand hygiene experiences in a primary care centre in Ireland during COVID-19

The implementation of proper hand hygiene (HH) has been shown to reduce the risk of developing healthcare-associated infections. There is an increased awareness of the importance of HH since the onset of COVID-19. This study used an interpretive descriptive qualitative design to explore patients’ experiences of healthc workers’ (HCWs’) HH practices in a primary care centre in Ireland during COVID-19. The data were collected from 12 participants using in-depth, semi-structured interviews and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Two themes were constructed, each with two subthemes. Theme 1, ‘Focus and Awareness’, had the subthemes ‘Hand Hygiene and Patient’s Awareness’ and ‘Positive Effects of COVID-19’. Theme 2, ‘Breaking Barriers’, had the subthemes ‘Fear of Repercussions’ and ‘Responsibility and Empowerment’. Patients believed they should have a role when it comes to ensuring correct HH is performed during their episode of care. Barriers to this included the perceived reaction of HCWs to the feedback and a lack of knowledge of the five moments of hand hygiene.

Working from home and mental well-being at different stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This paper analyses the relationship between working from home (WFH) and mental well-being at different stages during the first two critical years of the COVID-19 pandemic, when governments repeatedly imposed lockdowns and enacted WFH mandates to contain the spread of the virus. Using data from a representative survey conducted at four different time periods in 2020 (first lockdown, subsequent gradual reopening), 2021 (further lockdown) and 2022 (restrictions widely lifted) in the 27 EU member states, it examines the changing role of several mediators over time: work-family conflict, family-work conflict, stability, resilience, isolation, the importance of different support networks, workload, physical risk of contracting COVID-19 at work and housing conditions. For the first lockdown, it also differentiates by previous WFH experience, in terms of WFH novices and experienced WFH workers. It likewise differentiates by gender, in order to take the potential gendered nature of COVID-19 measures into account. The results point to several important mediators: for those who work from home, less family-work conflict and isolation, but greater stability, resilience, network support from family and friends, and superior housing conditions were associated with better mental well-being. The relevance of mediators was specific to certain stages of the pandemic. Stability was the most important mediator during the first lockdown. Work-family conflict and family-work conflict were only relevant during the first lockdown, while resilience and isolation mattered especially towards the end of the pandemic. Unlike established WFH workers, WFH novices had an advantage during the first lockdown, benefiting from lower family-work conflict and more helpful networks of family and friends. Our results differ by gender: for females who undertook WFH, important mediators were work-family conflict and family-work conflict. Both were related to adjustments they had to make in work and non-work hours in response to the enforced closure of schools and childcare facilities. For males who undertook WFH, support from networks of family and friends was an important mediator during the first lockdown.

Assessment of Postgraduate Year 1 Residency Program Director Preferences and Priorities in Evaluation of Pharmacy Residency Candidates.

Limited and conflicting evidence exists evaluating how components of pharmacy residency applications are prioritized by residency program directors (RPDs). This study aims to identify what pharmacy residency programs prioritize when selecting candidates to interview given the incorporation of new American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Pharmacy Residency Standards. A Qualtrics survey was distributed to postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) RPDs across the United States. Programs were identified using the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and ASHP residency directory. Data was collected from October 23, 2023, to December 4, 2023, and priorities were captured using percentage weighting and rank order lists. Of the 1389 survey links disseminated, a total of 254 programs submitted responses for a total response rate of 18.2%. According to RPDs the highest weighted section of a residency application was the curriculum vitae (CV) with an average weight of 51.7% followed by letters of recommendation, letter of intent, and supplemental application (if applicable) in descending order, respectively. Within the CV, programs valued work, leadership, and rotation experiences most. Ability to organize and manage time was reported to be the most important characteristic within letters of recommendation. Based on the results of this study, when reviewing pharmacy residency applications, PGY1 RPDs prioritize the CV, followed by letters of recommendation and letter of intent. These findings could be used by RPDs when assessing current scoring rubrics and may help to inform the efforts of students and letter of recommendation writers when preparing individual components of an application.

Job Quality, Gender and Generations: A Comparative and Exploratory Analysis of European Countries

This study conducts a comparative analysis of European countries regarding job quality and its relationship with gender and generational cohorts, using data from the 2021 European Working Conditions Survey. The research focuses on the subjective evaluations of job quality by European workers and examines how gender and generations may be related with these perceptions. The study operationalizes job quality using the European Intrinsic Job Quality Index, a multidimensional measure encompassing various aspects such as autonomy, interaction, intensity, and meaningful. The results show relevant variations in Intrinsic Job Quality across European countries. The study also finds that gender and generations play a role in shaping the perception of job quality. The findings of this study contribute to the ongoing debate on the importance of job quality for wellbeing and highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve job quality, particularly taking into account specific groups. The study's results also underscore the importance of considering the subjective evaluations of job quality in policy-making and the need for more comprehensive measures of job quality that capture the diverse experiences of workers across Europe.

EDI&amp;S SO02 The Aspire Initiative: A Community-Based Intervention to Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Future Surgical Workforce

Abstract Background In March 2021, the Royal College of Surgeons of England published The Kennedy Report, an independent and powerful review addressing the critical issues surrounding equality, diversity and inclusion within the surgical profession. Chapter 5 of the review states that aspirations to become a surgeon can begin whilst at secondary school, yet students from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds felt discouraged by teachers who doubted their potential. We describe the development and implementation of a strategic careers outreach initiative across the state-funded secondary schools in our diverse community, aiming to engage and support aspiring surgeons early in their journey. Method In June 2023, The Aspire Initiative was launched as an independent entity supported by surgeons from the local Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Unit and sponsorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Targeting students aged 13 to 17, the initiative offers community open events, inspiring video content, surgical work experience for those over 16, and outreach careers assemblies. Between November 2023 and March 2024, 13 assemblies were delivered at various state-funded secondary schools across Leicester. These sessions were led by surgeons reflecting ethnic, gender, and socio-economic diversity. Students were invited to complete surveys before and after the assembly to assess their impact. Results The pre-session survey, completed by 874 students from Years 8-11, revealed that 149 aspired to be doctors or surgeons, while 243 were considering this (n=392). Of the 392 students, 57% reported that their parents had not attended university. Only 19% had a good understanding of the medical school application process, and 21% knew about the support available. Furthermore, 31% felt knowledgeable about the daily responsibilities and training pathways of medical professionals. The post-session survey, with 420 responses, showed significant improvements: 91% gained a better understanding of a surgical career and 52% felt more inspired and motivated to pursue their aspirations. Conclusion The Kennedy Report recommended that careers outreach to diverse communities should be planned for as a strategic priority. This study highlights the impact of such initiatives in state-funded secondary schools, showing how they provide students from diverse social backgrounds with crucial insights into surgical careers. These programs help students make informed decisions and inspire them to pursue their aspirations by connecting with relatable role models. We propose that engaging with students at the secondary school level offers an ideal opportunity for surgeons to foster and sustain professional relationships with a diverse future workforce, laying foundations for continued support and mentorship.

Facilitating Effective Work Experience Supervision to Enable Diverse Students to Succeed in the Australian Legal Profession

The completion of legal work experience, including internships, has become quasi-mandatory for law graduates to be competitive for paid employment in the Australian legal profession. However, the employability skills and professional connections which students hope to gain through such work experience may be affected by a variety of factors, including if their workplace supervision is not effective. This is a particular issue for law students from groups underrepresented in the profession, who may have less familiarity with legal work and workplaces, whose experiences are less likely to mirror those of their supervisors in a profession which lacks diversity, and who are already experiencing compound vulnerability which limits their capacity to speak up about issues. This, in turn, limits diverse students’ capacity to transition into the profession. This paper considers how to facilitate inclusive and effective supervision within the profession to enable a wide range of law students to maximise the outcomes of their legal work experience. Within this context it outlines a project to promote successful supervision by supporting both law students and lawyer supervisors as one way of helping to turn the tide in favour of a safer, more inclusive legal profession.

Different Evaluation Strategies of Oncological CT Examinations with Regard to Professional Experience: A Clinical Study Using Eye-tracking.

Contrast-enhanced CT is the standard imaging technique in oncological objectives. Rates of missed pathologies depend on work experience of the respective radiologists. Thus the aim of this study is to analyze the eye movements of professionals while reading CT images in order to evaluate whether the eye-fixation patterns and search strategies of experienced radiologists could explain higher detection rates of pathologies and whether such patterns can be learned.Anonymized images of 10 patients were presented to three medical students and six radiologists with different levels of work experience. During image analysis, ocular fixation positions were recorded using an eye-tracking software tool. The CT scans were analyzed retrospectively, considering the individual course of disease with the issue of successful detection of all pathologies. Visual attention and dwell time of ocular fixation on clinically important abnormalities or areas with pathological findings, general search patterns, and time efficiency were assessed. For statistical analysis, interobserver variability and accuracy of lesion detection were evaluated taking into account individual experience.The results revealed that observer sensitivity depends on work experience due to a more systematic order of inspection and a well-known course of disease, e.g. in case of metastatic spread. The areas of missed pathologies mostly included secondary findings. Inexperienced readers changed the stratification considerably more often and required more time for reporting or detecting pathologies.Our results suggest that experienced radiological physicians reduce their amount of missed findings by looking more systematically at images and by applying a more targeted inspection of clinically important regions. · CT interpretation by radiology residents is faster and less error-prone compared to postgraduate residents. · systematic image analysis is trainable. · engrams tend to be acquired through experience. · Kluge S, Schülke C, Ites HC et al.
