Analysis of Open-Source Solution for Point of Sales Inventory Management System

Package other popular food distributor businesses. To gain advantage, they used newest Point of Sales (POS) for their business. POS allows user mood to do transaction between buyer and cashier, manage stock, etc. Unfortunately after several months, their business closed down, because the newest POS is not designed for their food distributor. ,The purpose of this research is to understand how POS would affect the business and why POS is valuable and important for business. The goal of this research is to find out which POS is suitable for both small and large business. There are four open-source POS to be analyzed, which are Odoo, E-hopper, Loyverse and Aronium. fOr Comparing Open Source software Evaluation Methods (FOCOSEM) is used to compare their features. In conclusion, only one shop. If the business owner wants to open another shop at different location but he/ she wants to keep track another shop, E-hopper or Loyverse is recommended. If the business owner wants to use mobile devices for easy setup, Loyverse is recommended. If the business owner prefers using PC, then E-hopper is recommended. For business owner who is conducting export and import then Odoo is recommended.

Exploring information from OSS repositories and platforms to support OSS selection decisions

ContextIndividuals and organizations are increasingly adopting Open Source Software (OSS) for the benefits it provides. Although the OSS evaluation process and the information it requires are nowadays well known, users still have problems finding the right information and are not supported by any decision support system. ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to bridge the gap between OSS adoption models, especially with the aim of supporting users in evaluating the OSS they are planning to select. MethodTo reach this aim, we studied the processes and the information considered by the major OSS assessment models. Then we carried out a case study to identify which information can be automatically retrieved from the main OSS platforms, namely GitHub, SonarCloud, and StackExchange. Finally, we characterized the maturity of the projects available on these three platforms. ResultsProjects available on the three platforms are commonly old, stable, and mature ones. Moreover, thanks to the API provided, we were able to extract most of the information not commonly accessible from the main website. ConclusionsOur results confirm that it is possible to develop a decision support system based on these three platforms, and that is also possible to evaluate both the quality and the maturity of the projects available there.

Review on Quality Models for Open Source Software and its reflection on Social Coding

Social Coding Sites (SCSs) are social media services for sharing software development projects on the Web, many open source projects are currently being developed on SCSs. Assessing the quality is a crucial element for better selection of a specific project serving people requirements or needs. In this paper, we reviewed existing traditional models which evolved prior the evolution of open source software as well as open source quality models. We evaluated the selected models according to their reflection with respect to social coding project success factors: sociality, popularity, activity and supportability. Eight models were included in our research as we only selected models that introduces explicit metrics well defined for measuring, neither a process nor a generic methodology. Based on our selection criteria, a summary of the findings we obtained is that existing models doesn’t fully consider or cover social factors for open source software evaluation hence there is a need for a model to measure the maturity / quality of open source projects from social factors perspective. We have also evaluated the existing models against a selected open source project hosted on social coding GitHub to assess each model applicability. Some of the measurements from the existing models were not applicable for evaluation.

Evaluation of open-source software for the lung segmentation

Abstract In this study we evaluated open-source software for lung segmentation. Several parameters which emphasize on functionality, usability, image quality and 3D export are considered for this evaluation. Based on these parameters, a scoring system is generated. Our preliminary evaluation results indicated that the Pulmonary toolkit obtains the best overall performance according to the scoring system. However, the ranking of software shows a certain variation among different criteria. The selection of software should regard the focus and the specific interest of the user.

This paper reports the evaluation of six open-source software s ystems for participatory digital archives. This is an effort to create a digital platform for the social memory of No Gun Ri, which was first recognized in 1999 as a civilian massacre. The process of how it was reported and investigated i s critical to understanding this brutal incident. In addition, the course of its cultural recovery has witnessed the reconstru ction of the No Gun Ri memory. Thus, it is important to embrace the social memory around the massacre in these archives. In consideration of a virtual space for memory, this study takes the form of participatory archives to provide a mechanism in which anyone can share their memories. As a way to find a digital archives system for No Gun Ri, this study analyzed open-source software based on identified functions and requirements for participatory digital archives. Knowing the details of digital systems, this study discussed how contents for social memory can be stored and used in a digital system. New Maturity Evaluation Model for Open Source Software Selection

Open Source Software is widely used as it offers several advantages such as cost saving, security and ability to modify the source code, which encourages companies to adopt it. Morocco like many countries has been hit by the global crisis that affected its economy, it is, therefore, necessary to propose solutions to help our economy survive and improve. The OSS has been adopted in many developed countries, as its introduction and implementation has saved a lot of money and offered various advantages. After having conducted a first survey, we have proposed a new model to decision makers in order to help them choose the best open source software that exactly meets their needs, which we have nicknamed Easiest Open Source Software Evaluation Model EOSSEM. Following to our second survey carried out in the second quarter 2015 in collaboration with decision-makers and IT experts, it was necessary to update our model by adding new highly relevant criteria.

Comparative evaluation of open source software for mapping between metabolite identifiers in metabolic network reconstructions: application to Recon 2

BackgroundAn important step in the reconstruction of a metabolic network is annotation of metabolites. Metabolites are generally annotated with various database or structure based identifiers. Metabolite annotations in metabolic reconstructions may be incorrect or incomplete and thus need to be updated prior to their use. Genome-scale metabolic reconstructions generally include hundreds of metabolites. Manually updating annotations is therefore highly laborious. This prompted us to look for open-source software applications that could facilitate automatic updating of annotations by mapping between available metabolite identifiers. We identified three applications developed for the metabolomics and chemical informatics communities as potential solutions. The applications were MetMask, the Chemical Translation System, and UniChem. The first implements a “metabolite masking” strategy for mapping between identifiers whereas the latter two implement different versions of an InChI based strategy. Here we evaluated the suitability of these applications for the task of mapping between metabolite identifiers in genome-scale metabolic reconstructions. We applied the best suited application to updating identifiers in Recon 2, the latest reconstruction of human metabolism.ResultsAll three applications enabled partially automatic updating of metabolite identifiers, but significant manual effort was still required to fully update identifiers. We were able to reduce this manual effort by searching for new identifiers using multiple types of information about metabolites. When multiple types of information were combined, the Chemical Translation System enabled us to update over 3,500 metabolite identifiers in Recon 2. All but approximately 200 identifiers were updated automatically.ConclusionsWe found that an InChI based application such as the Chemical Translation System was better suited to the task of mapping between metabolite identifiers in genome-scale metabolic reconstructions. We identified several features, however, that could be added to such an application in order to tailor it to this task.

A Study on Maturity Model of Open Source Software Community to Estimate the Quality of Products

Open Source Software (OSS) is a new paradigm to develop software by community, in which groups of developer collaborating each other. The method becomes very popular because the products of OSS projects, such as source code, documents, results of tests, are published by open-license. One of noticeable features of OSS is openness of project. Anyone can access the products of OSS projects. It is expected that the quality of products could be higher than those developed by conventional methods, as more people access OSS products and the chance to find defect could be larger. However, there are no established methods for the evaluation of OSS, neither actual terms of the evaluation of OSS. We propose an evaluation method, which is based on the maturity model of OSS development community.

The cathedral and the bazaar of e-repository development: encouraging community engagement with moving pictures and sound

This paper offers an insight into the development, use and governance of e-repositories for learning and teaching, illustrated by Eric Raymond’s bazaar and cathedral analogies and by a comparison of collection strategies that focus on content coverage or on the needs of users. It addresses in particular the processes that encourage and achieve community engagement. This insight is illustrated by one particular e-repository, the Education Media On-Line (EMOL) service. This paper draws analogies between the bazaar approach for open source software development and its possibilities for developing e-repositories for learning and teaching. It suggests in particular that the development, use and evaluation of online moving pictures and sound objects for learning and teaching can benefit greatly from the community engagement lessons provided by the development, use and evaluation of open source software. Such lessons can be underpinned by experience in the area of learning resource collections, where repositories have been classified as ‘collections-based’ or ‘user-based’. Open Source Software: Fully featured vs. "the devil you know"?

The ILIAS learning management system (LMS) was evaluated, following its favourable rating in an independent evaluation study of open source software (OSS) products. The current review found ILIAS to have numerous features of value to distance education (DE) students and teachers, as well as problems for consideration in the system’s ongoing development. The current findings were compared with DE students’ reactions to a similar LMS product, ATutor, also rated highly in the independent OSS evaluation. In comparing an ATutor course website with a simple HTMLbased version of the same site, the ten students voted unanimously to retain the simpler site. This result is consistent with previous evaluation findings in the current series of reports, and indicates that increasing integration of product features does not necessarily improve a product’s ease of use or educational effectiveness.
