Intuitionistic Linguistic EDAS Method with New Score Function: Case Study on Evaluating Universities’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education

Intuitionistic linguistic numbers (ILNs) describe expert evaluation information by representing semantic assessment values and reflecting the confidence level and hesitation of decision-makers. ILNs are widely used to handle uncertain and incomplete information. The Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) method selects the optimal solution based on the distance of each alternative from the average solution, making it suitable for multi-attribute decision-making with conflicting attributes. This study proposes a new scoring function for ILNs and develops an evaluation method combining ILNs with EDAS (IL-EDAS). Experts’ evaluations of each alternative’s indices are expressed using ILNs, and the EDAS method ranks the alternatives to select the optimal solution. We apply this method to assess innovation and entrepreneurship education capabilities in universities, and compare the results with those from other methods to verify their applicability and practicality.

An integrated multi-criteria decision making approach for selecting the starting location of railroad projects

PurposeThe successful completion of linear infrastructure construction projects such as railroads, roads, tunnels, and pipelines relies heavily on decision-making processes during planning phase. Professionals in the construction industry emphasize that determining the starting point of a linear infrastructure construction project is one of the most important decisions to be made in the planning phase. However, the existing literature does not specifically focus on selection of the starting point of the segments to be constructed. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to develop a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model to support selection of the starting point of the segments to be constructed in linear infrastructure construction projects.Design/methodology/approachBased on the characteristics of the railroad projects and insights gathered from expert interviews, the appropriate criteria for the model were determined. Once the criteria were determined, a decision hierarchy was developed and the weights of the criteria (w_i) were calculated using DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method. Then, Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), COmplex PRoportional Assessment (COPRAS), and evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) methods were used. The alternatives were ranked in terms of their priority with TOPSIS method based on relative closeness (Ci) of each alternative to the ideal solution, COPRAS method based on quantitative utility (Ui) for each alternative and EDAS method based on evaluation score (ASi) for all alternatives. The results were compared with each other.FindingsThe study reveals the effects of all criteria on the proposed model. The results of DEMATEL method indicated that quantity of aggregate (w_i = 0.075), ballast (w_i = 0.071), and sub-ballast (w_i = 0.069) are the most important criteria in starting location selection for railroads, where earthquake (w_i = 0.046), excavation cost (w_i = 0.054), and longest distance from borrow pit (w_i = 0.055) were found to be less important criteria. The starting location alternatives were ranked based on TOPSIS, COPRAS and EDAS methods. The A-1 alternative was selected as the most appropriate alternative (Ci = 0.64; Ui = 100%; ASi = 0.81), followed by A-6 alternative (Ci = 0.61; Ui = 97%; ASi = 0.73) and A-7 alternative (Ci = 0.59; Ui = 94%; ASi = 0.60). Even tough different methods were used, they provided compatible results where the same ranking was achieved except three alternatives.Originality/valueThis study identifies novel criteria for the starting location selection of railroad construction based on the data of a railroad project. This study uses different methods for selecting the starting location. Considering the project type and its scope, the model can be used by decision-makers in linear infrastructure projects for which efficient planning and effective location selection are critical for successful operations.

A new extension of the EDAS method in a fuzzy environment for group decision-making

The complexity of the decision-making problems being analysed has led to the development of multiple multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. One of the more recent methods belonging to this group is the evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) method. To date, it has found extensive use in solving real-world decision-making problems and has seen many extensions to input data types other than real numbers. One of these is the EDAS method for group decision-making in a fuzzy environment. This method aggregates individual evaluations of decision-makers into a group evaluation using the arithmetic mean. This may result in equal group ratings despite the variety of individual ratings, making it difficult or even impossible to rank alternatives because the EDAS algorithm will be blocked. The paper proposes a new fuzzy extension of EDAS called the PFEDAS method for group decision-making. The main difference between the proposed method and the original one is that at the initial stage the individual decision matrices are not aggregated into a group matrix but are transformed into matrices of alternatives. As a result, the new PFEDAS method is based on the initial data instead of their averaged values which allows a more accurate comparison of alternatives. Using a numerical example, the PFEDAS method is compared with other similar methods known from the literature.

Extended EDAS Analysis for Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Based on Distributed Generation (DG) Technologies System

Recently, there has been a growing interest in distributed generation (DG) technologies, driven by various factors such as fuel price uncertainties, environmental constraints, and increasing power consumption along with transmission capacity shortages, in modern power systems. DG, which involves utilizing clean and renewable energy sources for power generation within the distribution system, has gained significant attention globally. Many developing countries, including Libya, are considering the adoption of DG technologies as part of their energy system expansion plans. Libya, located in North Africa and characterized by vast desert lands, has abundant solar radiation, making solar energy a promising and sustainable source of power. However, despite this energy potential, the southern part of Libya faces frequent power outages. In order to effectively maintain service quality, it is essential to conduct quantitative evaluation of wireless sensor networks. the evaluation of wireless sensor networks involves addressing the multiple attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) problem. To tackle the challenges of MAGDM, an extension of the classical EDAS (Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution) method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method incorporates interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IVIFSs), which provide a more flexible and comprehensive representation of uncertainty, to handle the complexities of MAGDM. The paper begins with a brief review of essential concepts related to IVIFSs. Then, the weights of attributes are determined using the CRITIC method. Subsequently, the IVIF-EDAS method is established by integrating the EDAS method with IVIFSs, and all the calculation procedures are described.

Evaluating the Performance of Railway Transportation Companies Using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods

The purpose of performance evaluation is to generate measurable data on an organization's performance, with the goal of assisting managerial decision-making and enhancing overall performance. In this study, the key performance indicators (KPIs) for railway transportation companies are identified based on expert opinions and previous frameworks. The operational performance of various railway freight transport companies was evaluated using multi-criteria decision-making methods (MCDM). Among the MCDM approaches, the Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) method was applied as the main method. In addition to the EDAS method, alternative MCDM methods such as TOPSIS, PROMETHEE II, and COPRAS were used to highlight potential deviations when compared to the results obtained with the EDAS method. Based on the research findings, three out of the seven KPIs, namely safety, have the highest weight at 38%, followed by punctuality at 19%, and journey time at 12%. Subsequently, companies were ranked according to their performance based on all KPIs. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to demonstrate how changes in the relative weights of KPIs can affect the results.

Evaluation of digital commercial bank security under uncertainty: A multiphase approach based on intuitionistic fuzzy CRITIC and EDAS framework

Currently, the digital economy continues to deepen its development, and it has become a consensus among all sectors as the direction of global future development. Digital finance, as a fleet in the wave of digital economy, is rapidly heading towards the sunny shore of benefiting the public and serving entities driven by the digital technology engine. Xinwang Bank is a fast boat in the digital finance fleet, always adhering to the principle of technology, building an open platform, and actively promoting the construction of an open, shared, and secure digital credit ecosystem from three levels: institutional, industry, and ecological, to assist in the development of the digital economy. The digital commercial bank security evaluation is a classical multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problems. Recently, the Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) method has been employed to manage MAGDM issues. The intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) are used as a tool for portraying uncertain information during the digital commercial bank security evaluation. In this paper, the intuitionistic fuzzy nunmber EDAS (IFN-EDAS) method is cultivated to manage the MAGDM based on Hamming distance and Euclidean distance under IFSs. In the end, a numerical case study for digital commercial bank security evaluation is supplied to validate the proposed method. The main contributions of this paper are outlined: (1) the EDAS method has been extended to IFSs based on Hamming distance and Euclidean distance; (2) the CRITIC method is used to derive weight based on Hamming distance and Euclidean distance under IFSs. (3) the IFN-EDAS method based on Hamming distance and Euclidean distance is founded to manage the MAGDM based on the Hamming distance and Euclidean distance under IFSs; (4) a numerical case study for digital commercial bank security evaluation and some comparative analysis is supplied to validate the proposed method.

Selection of a sustainable location for waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling plant using Entropy and Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution.

The production and consumption of electronic goods have experienced a significant increase over the years, leading to a substantial surge in the global volume of electronic waste, commonly referred to as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The selection of a sustainable location for WEEE recycling plants plays a crucial role in mitigating environmental concerns, preserving resources and promoting economic development. It signifies a proactive and responsible approach to electronic waste management in the contemporary world. To tackle the challenge of selecting sustainable locations for WEEE recycling plants, this study employed the Entropy and Entropy and Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) methodologies, evaluating 10 alternative cities in Turkey based on 13 criteria. The selected criteria include land cost, personnel cost, energy cost, availability of labour, government support degree, tax preferences, road network accessibility, number of electronic equipment producers, existence of recycling plants, suitability of land use, population and availability of renewable resources (wind power and solar energy). The Entropy method was employed to calculate the weights assigned to each criterion, whereas the EDAS method was utilized to evaluate the decision alternatives. The results provide region-specific recommendations, such as Antalya for the Mediterranean region and Samsun for the Black Sea region. The literature lacks sufficient research on the selection of sustainable locations for WEEE recycling plants. Furthermore, the utilization of real data enhances the study's credibility and provides practical insights for decision-making. The selection of a sustainable location for a WEEE recycling plant in Turkey not only demonstrates the country's environmental commitment but also sets a global example for responsible waste management.

Exploring the critical factors affecting the adoption of blockchain: Taiwan’s banking industry

As an emerging technology, blockchain has recently gained attention in both academic and economic fields, but its adoption is not yet widespread in the banking sector in Taiwan. As academics have paid scant attention to this topic, this study determines the critical factors affecting blockchain adoption from the organizational perspective in the banking industry. We propose hybrid methods to fill the gap in the literature. First, we apply the technology-organization-environment framework as the basis and combine relevant factors as a framework to identify the relevant evaluation factors. Second, we propose a hybrid method that integrates the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) with the evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) approach and employs DEMATEL to measure the importance of the factors and alternatives to blockchain as ranked by the EDAS method. According to the ranking results, we identify the best preference among alternatives to blockchain. The results suggest that organizational and technological aspects are the main considerations to enhance and promote the effectiveness of blockchain adoption. This study suggests valuable strategies for stimulating blockchain adoption in the banking sector in Taiwan.

Graph model for conflict resolution based on the combination of probabilistic uncertain linguistic and EDAS method

The ranking of decision makers (DMs)’ preferences for feasible states in the graph model for conflict resolution (GMCR) is crucial for accurately determining stability results. This paper addresses the issue of subjective ranking methods lacking theoretical foundation and causing ambiguity when the number of feasible states is high by proposing the implementation of the multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) method in the GMCR. The paper utilizes the average level to choose evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) method for determining the DM’s preference ranking, which can effectively reduce the impact of anomalous evaluations. Further, the PUL-EDAS method based on probabilistic uncertainty linguistics (PUL) is developed, which overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional EDAS method, which only applies to the simple evaluation of information. The PUL aligns with DMs’ daily evaluation practice by providing an interval for the quality of qualitative linguistic evaluations. Furthermore, it utilizes an objective aggregation method to calculate comprehensive evaluation information from all DMs. In addition, the four fundamental stability definitions, applicable solely under crisp preferences, are extended to the PUL context, providing related extended definitions. Finally, to ensure the scientific validity and practicality of the proposed theory, this paper selects digital rural governance as the research context for conflict calculus analysis, comparing it with other MADM methods in the preference ranking section.

Supplier selection under circular economy: An integrated entropy-EDAS method

The concept of circular economy (CE) is gaining attention from businesses and government agencies as a crucial approach to combat climate change. With increasing consumer concern for environmental and social issues, there is a growing emphasis on supporting sustainable and circular supply chains. The selection of appropriate suppliers is recognized as pivotal for achieving efficiency and profitability within a circular supply chain. This study conducts a thorough literature review to identify 16 supplier selection criteria, focusing on their suitability in CE framework. Criteria weights are determined using Entropy method, while Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) method has been applied to identify the most suitable supplier. The results identified "Financial capability," "The technology required to supplement reverse logistics," and "Re-Use, Re-Manufacturing, Refurbishment" as the most predominant criteria. "Financial capability" drives circular investment, enhancing resource efficiency. "Technology for reverse logistics" optimizes material flow, reducing resource depletion. Practices like "Re-Use, Re-Manufacturing, Refurbishment" extend product lifecycles, curbing environmental impact. Using the EDAS method, Supplier 5 emerges as the top choice, reinforcing sustainable supply chain decisions. This promotes CE principles and aligns with sustainable development goals, aiding managers in policy-making and prioritizing supplier criteria.

A comprehensive MAGDM-based approach using EDAS and CRITIC as an auxiliary tool for quality evaluation of ceramic product modeling design

Ceramic art has a long history of development in China and is an important component of the inheritance and development of traditional culture. The highly distinctive ceramic art expression content has been sought after by many international research enthusiasts and applied to product design, highlighting different social backgrounds and special cultural connotations of different eras, while also laying an important theoretical foundation for the inheritance and development of culture. The quality evaluation of ceramic product modeling design could be deemed as a classic multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) problem. Recently, the EDAS and CRITIC method has been used to cope with MAGDM issues. Spherical fuzzy sets (SFSs) can excavate the uncertainty and fuzziness in MAGDM more effectively and deeply. In this article, on basis of evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), a novel spherical fuzzy number EDAS (SFN-EDAS) method based on Hamming distance and Euclid distance is built for dealing with MAGDM. Moreover, when the attribute weights are completely unknown, the CRITIC method is extended to SFSs to acquire the attribute weights. Finally, SFN-EDAS method is used for quality evaluation of ceramic product modeling design to prove practicability of the developed method and compare SFN-EDAS method with existing methods to further demonstrate its superiority.

Perbandingan Metode ARAS dan EDAS dalam Menghasilkan Rekomendasi Layanan Akomodasi Hotel

This study compares the decision support model Additive Ratio Assessment (ARAS) and Evaluation based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) in selecting hotels in Semarang City. Meanwhile, the criterion-setting method adopts the Ranking of Centroid (ROC) to set criteria, determine the priority of criteria, and determine the weight of the criteria values. Comparison of the two algorithms needs to be done to compare the results and test the performance of the two algorithms, when developed into a decision support application to generate hotel service recommendations. Meanwhile, the stages in this research are as follows: data collection stage, using TripAdvisor; data processing stage, using ARAS and EDAS models; and data analysis stage. The results of this study show that the ranking results based on the EDAS method show that A1 occupies the first position with an NSP value of 1,000 and an NSN of 0,983. Furthermore, A3 occupies the second position with an NSP value of 0.707 and an NSN of 0.983. Meanwhile, A2 occupies the third position with an NSP value of 0.311 and an NSN of 0.983. Furthermore, the ARAS method ranking results show that A1 occupies the first position with a Si value of 0.171 and a Ki value of 0.994. Furthermore, A3 occupies the second position with a Si value of 0.169 and a Ki value of 0.984. Meanwhile, A2 occupies the third position with a Si value of 0.167 and a Ki value of 0.970. Based on the comparison of EDAS and ARAS methods, it can be seen that both produce the same alternative ranking where Padma Hotel Semarang ranks first, Aruss Hotel Semarang ranks second, and Tentrem Hotel Semarang ranks third. Thus, it can be seen that EDAS and ARAS methods can produce the best hotel recommendations for travelers by considering ratings and reviews on the TripAdvisor platform.

This article we first present a novel score function to compare spherical fuzzy numbers (SFNs) more directly and efficiently. Then, on basis of evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), a novel spherical fuzzy EDAS (SF-EDAS) method is built for dealing with MAGDM. Moreover, when the attribute weights are completely unknown, the MEthod based on the Removal Effects of Criteria (MEREC) is extended to spherical fuzzy environment (SFE) to reasonably acquire the attribute weights. Finally, SF-EDAS approach is used for English classroom teaching quality evaluation to prove practicability of the developed method and compare SF-EDAS method with existing methods to further demonstrate its legitimacy and superiority.

A novel linguistic decision making approach based on attribute correlation and EDAS method

One of characteristics of large-scale linguistic decision making problems is that decision information with respect to decision making attributes is derived from multi-sources information. In addition, the number of decision makers, alternatives or criteria of decision making problems in the context of big data are increasingly large. Correlation analysis between decision making attributes has become an important issue of large-scale linguistic decision making problems. In the paper, we concentrate on correlation analysis between decision making attributes to deal with large-scale decision making problems with linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy values. Firstly, we proposed a new similarity measure between two linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy sets to formally define correlation between decision making attributes. Then we propose linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy reducible weighted Maclaurin symmetric mean (LIFRWMSM) operator and linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy reducible weighted dual Maclaurin symmetric mean (LIFRWDMSM) operator to aggregate linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy value decision information of correlational decision making attributes, and analyze several important properties of the two operator. Inspired by evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) method, we design a solution scheme and decision steps to deal with large-scale linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy decision making problems. To show the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed decision method, we employ the choice of buying a house and the selection of travel destination to demonstrate our method and make comparative analysis with others aggregation operators or methods.

Additionally, ten criteria and eight gamification methodologies are used to assess and pick the prior pertinent works. By utilizing the suggested approaches, the decision problem has been resolved. The FAHP approach is used in the suggested analysis to evaluate the criteria and determine their weights. Then, using the EDAS method, places are assigned to the chosen procedures based on their evaluation score and criterion weighting. The results of the appraisal show that the gamification technique with the highest production takes first place and is regarded as the best-performing and most successful technique. On the other hand, it is clear that the technique with the lowest production takes the bottom spot and is referred to as the least expensive and lowest performing technique. In order to increase students' motivation, which could have a substantial impact on learning, it has been discovered that gamification is a feasible strategy.

Neutrosophic MCDM Methodology for Assessment Risks of Cyber Security in Power Management


 Every day, new reports of cyberattacks on interconnected control systems emerge. The vulnerability of their communication mechanism makes similar control systems a target for malicious outsiders. Protecting sensitive data and maintaining network reliability and availability are two of the main reasons why network security is so important. Strong and dependable network security strategies use a number of safeguards to protect users and businesses from malware and cyber assaults like distributed denial of service. A safety analysis is an essential step that must precede the introduction of any security measures. There hasn't been much experience with cyberattacks on power control systems yet, therefore it's important to develop a method for thoroughly assessing the safety of power control technologies used in data transmission systems. A prior study has identified the authority control process evaluation of security and the safety level of each control stage as two of the primary obstacles to effective security assessment. For this reason, this article provides a safety risk evaluation of the communication networks of power management and control technologies (PMCT) using the neutrosophic Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDAS) method. A prime instance of a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) issue is used to solve the security risk assessment in the power system. In this study, we offer an interval-valued neutrosophic version of the EDAS approach for solving the MCDM issue. The neutrosophic EDAS method is used to rank and assess the security risks in power system.

A state-of-the-art survey of evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS): Developments and applications

Evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), developed in 2015, is one of the well-known and frequently utilized methods which is applied for different types of decision making problems. The output of EDAS is a ranking order of alternatives based on their aggregated distance scores. In this regard, the literature lacks a comprehensive literature review on the developments and applications of EDAS. For this purpose, this study conducts a comprehensive literature review on developments, extensions, and applications of the EDAS method. First, the EDAS method and its well-known extensions are shortly introduced. Next, a theoretical literature review of studies is presented. A meta analysis is performed in terms of publication year, authors, authors’ countries, journals, and combined methods, uncertainty sets. Practical problems of the EDAS are categorized into nine application groups as agriculture, business management, construction management, energy and natural resources, healthcare management, information technology (IT), manufacturing, supply chain management, and transportation management. Results of this study can empower real-life decision makers to handle vague and incomplete information involved in decision process, and express opinions of different stakeholders in different applications under novel extensions of the EDAS.
