To address this research gap, we propose a new Diversity and Serendipity-Aware Recommender System (DSPA-RS) problem and its solution method. The MovieLens-2k data are used to evaluate our proposed DSPA-RS method against seven widely used recommendation methods in recommender systems as benchmarks. The test results demonstrate our method shows a superior performance than the benchmarks by a range of 34.30% to 108.27%, indicating that the movies recommended by our method best satisfy users’ diversity and serendipity preference. For recommendation accuracy, our DSPA-RS method outperforms the most accurate method by 34.62% in Precision, 7.71% in Recall, and 24.37% in F1 score. The improvement in recommendation accuracy indicates that DSPA-RS’s consideration and utilization of diversity preference and novelty momentum greatly improves recommendation quality.

Distribution of Plasmopara viticola Causing Downy Mildew in Russian Far East Grapevines

Downy mildew is a severe disease that leads to significant losses in grape yields worldwide. It is caused by the oomycete Plasmopara viticola. The study of the distribution of this agent and the search for endophytic organisms that inhibit the growth of P. viticola are essential objectives to facilitate the transition to sustainable and high-yield agriculture, while respecting the environment. In this study, high-throughput sequencing of the ITS (ITS1f/ITS2 region) and 16S (V4 region) amplicons was employed to analyze 80 samples of leaves and stems from different grapevine species and cultivars grown in the Russian Far East (Vitis amurensis Rupr., Vitis coignetiae Pulliat, and several grapevine cultivars). The analysis revealed the presence of P. viticola in 53.75% of the grape samples. The pathogen P. viticola was not detected in V. amurensis samples collected near Vladivostok and Russky Island. Among the P. viticola-affected samples, only two (out of the eighty analyzed grape samples) from the Makarevich vineyard in Primorsky Krai exhibited disease symptoms, while the majority appeared visually healthy. We also found six distinct P. viticola ASVs in our metagenomic data. Based on phylogenetic analysis, we hypothesize that the P. viticola population in the Russian Far East may have originated from the invasive P. viticola clade aestivalis, which has spread around the world from North America. To identify putative microbial antagonists of P. viticola, a differential analysis of high-throughput sequencing data was conducted using the DESeq2 method to compare healthy and P. viticola-affected samples. The in silico analysis revealed an increased representation of certain taxa in healthy samples compared to P. viticola-affected ones: fungi—Kabatina sp., Aureobasidium sp., and Vishniacozyma sp.; bacteria—Hymenobacter spp., Sphingomonas spp., Massilia spp., Methylobacterium-Methylorubrum spp., and Chryseobacterium spp. This in-silico-obtained information on the potential microbial antagonists of P. viticola serves as a theoretical basis for the development of biocontrol agents for grapevine downy mildew.

Complex waste management in Myanmar: role of the actors, relationships, and social capital

AbstractAdequate waste management is a pressing global problem that undermines sustainability efforts in many countries. Controlling solid waste, recycling, and reducing waste including plastics, are essential policy objectives. This is especially relevant in countries like Myanmar, scoring poorly on waste-related indicators. This paper adopts a holistic system perspective, looking at the formal and the informal sectors’ contribution to waste collection and recycling efforts. By studying waste management in the Bago Township, we investigate the actors’ relationships by identifying bonding mechanisms between the actors. Central in the informal system are medium and larger scrap dealers that not only serve as waste trade intermediaries, but function as banks, social security agents, and fora for information exchange. The study shows that relationships between scrap dealers and waste pickers are regulated by different types of bonding mechanisms contributing to the social capital variables, trust, predictability, transparency and openness. In contrast, a few bonding mechanisms were established by the formal sector actors. It is the formal system that has the mandate to assure waste collection and that the waste is treated appropriately without posing any environmental and health risks. The informal system contributes to impressive levels of circularity, while also supporting livelihoods. Strengths and responsibilities should be adequately recognized and included in the governance arrangements. Identification of a governance system that addresses both formal and the informal sector needs to consider the local context by involving local stakeholders and build on the existing networks, knowledge, and skills.

A prediction-based model to optimize construction programs: Considering time, cost, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions trade-off

Efforts to combat climate change demand global action to promote a sustainable development worldwide. Given the construction industry's significant energy consumption, it is crucial to curtail energy consumption and CO2 emissions in this sector. This study aims to predict and trade-off four essential objectives: time, cost, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions. Initially, various factors affecting time and cost was identified using the CoCoSo method. Subsequently, 11 machine learning algorithms were employed to predict all four targets. Results revealed that support vector regression achieved an accuracy of 95.77% in project duration prediction, while the neural network algorithm demonstrated accuracy of 93.64%, 97.63%, and 97.99% in predicting cost, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions, respectively. Additionally, the research findings from six scenarios highlighted the non-linear relationship among project objectives. Deviating from the optimal point resulted in increases on both sides, with more significant impacts observed at values less than optimal duration. This research equips engineers with a valuable tool for accurately predicting project outcomes by adjusting input values, ensuring successful project execution and efficient resource allocation. Additionally, the framework's predictive abilities are beneficial for companies with energy and CO2 policies, influencing various sectors, regions, and policies tied to energy, emissions, costs, climate change, ESG, and UN SDGs. Its application extends to shaping regulations, strategies, and targets.

Decision Support Systems in Forestry and Tree-Planting Practices and the Prioritization of Ecosystem Services: A Review

In this study, tree-selection/plantation decision support systems (DSSs) were reviewed and evaluated against essential objectives in the available literature. We verified whether existing DSSs leverage multiple data sources and available online resources such as web interfaces. We compared the existing DSSs, and in this study mainly focused on five main objectives that DSSs can consider in tree selection, including (a) climate resilience, (b) infrastructure/space optimization, (c) agroforestry, (d) ecosystem services, and (e) urban sustainability. The climate resilience of tree species and urban sustainability are relatively rarely taken into account in existing systems, which can be integrated holistically in future DSS tools. Based on this review, deep neural networks (DNNs) are recommended to achieve trade-offs between complex objectives such as maximizing ecosystem services, the climate resilience of tree species, agroforestry conservation, and other benefits.

Network Pharmacology, Molecular Docking, and Experimental Verification to Reveal the Mitophagy-Associated Mechanism of Tangshen Formula in the Treatment of Diabetic Nephropathy.

This study investigated the mechanism of TSF in treating DN through network pharmacology, molecular docking, and experimental validation. To identify critical active ingredients, targets, and DN genes in TSF, multiple databases were utilized for screening purposes. The drug-compound-target network was constructed using Cytoscape 3.9.1 software for network topological analysis. The protein interaction relationship was analyzed using the String database platform. Metascape database conducted enrichment analysis on the key targets using Gene Ontology and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. The renoprotective effect was evaluated using a mouse model of diabetic nephropathy (db/db mice) that occurred spontaneously. Validation of the associated targets and pathways was performed using Western Blot (WB), Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), and Immunohistochemical methods (IHC). The network analysis showed that the TSF pathway network targeted 24 important targets and 149 significant pathways. TSF might have an impact by focusing on essential objectives such as TP53, PTEN, AKT1, BCL2, BCL2L1, PINK-1, PARKIN, LC3B, and NFE2L2, along with various growth-inducing routes. Our findings demonstrated that TSF effectively repaired the structure of mitochondria in db/db mice. TSF greatly enhanced the mRNA levels of PINK-1. WB and IHC findings indicated that TSF had a notable impact on activating the PINK-1/PARKIN signaling pathway in db/db mice, significantly increasing LC3 and NRF2 expression. Our results indicate that TSF effectively addresses DN by activating the PINK-1/PARKIN signaling pathway and enhancing Mitochondrion structure in experimental diabetic nephropathy.

Textual and analytical research has been conducted to demonstrate the unusual utilisation of five flora referred to in ''Gerontion'' and ''The Waste Land''. The poems' texts and theoretical and historical sources have been examined to collect the required data for the paper. One of the most essential research objectives of the paper is to find out how these blossoms were used symbolically in two of Eliot's poems. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays an important role in many fields, including medical education, practice, and research. Many medical educators started using ChatGPT at the end of 2022 for many purposes. The aim of this study was to explore the potential uses, benefits, and risks of using ChatGPT in education modules on integrated pharmacotherapy of infectious disease. A content analysis was conducted to investigate the applications of ChatGPT in education modules on integrated pharmacotherapy of infectious disease. Questions pertaining to curriculum development, syllabus design, lecture note preparation, and examination construction were posed during data collection. Three experienced professors rated the appropriateness and precision of the answers provided by ChatGPT. The consensus rating was considered. The professors also discussed the prospective applications, benefits, and risks of ChatGPT in this educational setting. ChatGPT demonstrated the ability to contribute to various aspects of curriculum design, with ratings ranging from 50% to 92% for appropriateness and accuracy. However, there were limitations and risks associated with its use, including incomplete syllabi, the absence of essential learning objectives, and the inability to design valid questionnaires and qualitative studies. It was suggested that educators use ChatGPT as a resource rather than relying primarily on its output. There are recommendations for effectively incorporating ChatGPT into the curriculum of the education modules on integrated pharmacotherapy of infectious disease. Medical and health sciences educators can use ChatGPT as a guide in many aspects related to the development of the curriculum of the education modules on integrated pharmacotherapy of infectious disease, syllabus design, lecture notes preparation, and examination preparation with caution.

Nowadays, intelligent information technology can implement high-level information processing and decision-making activities that can support risk assessment of autonomous. Risk assessment is a critical process for deploying autonomous ships, ensuring these innovative vessels' safe and efficient operation. There is a need to identify, analyze, and mitigate potential risks associated with system reliability, collision avoidance, cybersecurity, environmental conditions, human interaction, regulatory compliance, sensor performance, data integrity, emergency response, and testing and validation. This work provides an overview of the essential considerations and objectives of risk assessment in autonomous boats. We used the multi-criteria decision-making model to deal with various criteria. The Ranking of Alternatives through Functional Mapping Criterion Sub-Intervals into Single Interval (RAFSI) method is applied to rank the alternatives. We used the ten criteria and twenty options in this study. The results show that the proposed framework can provide a comprehensive risk assessment framework that can enable stakeholders to gain insights into potential hazards and vulnerabilities unique to autonomous ships.

DFPC: Dynamic Fuzzy-based Primary User Aware clustering for Cognitive Radio Wireless Sensor Networks

Clustering-based routing solutions have proven to be efficient for wireless networks such as Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), etc. Cognitive Radio WSN (CR-WSN) is a class of WSNs that consists of several resource-constrained Secondary Users (SUs), sink, and Primary Users (PUs). Compared to WSNs, there are several challenges in designing the clustering technique for CR-WSNs. As a result, one cannot directly apply the WSN clustering protocols to CR-WSNs. Developing a clustering protocol for CR-WSNs must address challenges such as ensuring PU protection, and SU connectivity, selecting the optimal Cluster Head (CH), and discovering the optimal cluster size. Present CR-WSN clustering solutions failed to resolve the trade-off among all essential clustering objectives. To address these challenges, this study presents a novel approach called Dynamic Fuzzy-based PU aware Clustering (DFPC) for CR-WSNs. DFPC uses a dynamic approach to discover the number of clusters, a fuzzy-based algorithm for optimal CH selection, and reliable multi-hop data transmission to ensure PU protection. To enhance the performance of CR-WSNs, an effective strategy was designed to define the optimal number of clusters using the network radius and live node. Fuzzy logic rules were formulated to assess the four CR-specific parameters for optimal CH selection. Finally, reliable intra- and intercluster data transmission routes are discovered to protect the PUs from malicious activities. The simulation results showed that the DFPC protocol achieved an improved average throughput of 48.04 and 46.49, a PDR of 93.36 and 84.37, and a reduced delay of 0.0271 and 0.0276 in static and dynamic topologies, respectively, which were better than those of ABCC, ATEEN, and LEACH protocols.

The society defended Gaelic language rights, presented itself as a patron to Gaelic education, and organised the Mòd festival, all the while embracing all political and religious beliefs. The methodology of the research, inspired by Israeli sociologist Ruth Amossy, analyzes the discourse of An Deo-Gréine, the official magazine of An Comunn Gaidhealach. Economic and political reforms are necessary to overcome these issues, while the concept of institutional reforms to save the environment is novel and hardly discussed in the earlier literature, especially in the context of BRI countries. So, this study explores the impact of economic and political reforms on the environment by applying a difference-in-differences approach to the data of 45 BRI economies from 2000 to 2022. The empirical findings reveal a negative relationship between economic and political reforms on ecological footprints, emphasizing the need for institutional reform to preserve the environment in the BRI region. Institutional reforms have a significant contribution to environmental sustainability by fostering better governance, political stability, and an environment conducive to reforms-driven decision-making. These reforms can help address the environmental challenges associated with large-scale infrastructure and economic development projects like the BRI, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future.

The inherent complexity and heterogeneity of FA resins have thwarted attempts to propose a universally applicable structural elucidation, prompting the investigation of numerous proposed mechanisms. Drawing upon an extensive corpus of literature, we survey various proposed mechanisms and representative structural attributes of a range of FA polymeric systems. The insights from a rich tapestry of experimental evidence collectively illuminate the manifold intermediates and pathways that characterize various FA polymerization techniques. A critical appraisal of prevailing debates and counterarguments offers a nuanced perspective on the diverse facets of FA polymerization chemistry. Moreover, this work underscores the latent potential of biobased chemistry, from the perspective of furan chemistry, as a potent catalyst for driving the essential objectives of de‐fossilization and sustainability within the chemical and materials industries. Subsequently, it provides valuable insights into the present state of knowledge on FA polymerization, thereby serving as a vanguard for delineating future research trajectories in this captivating field.

Efficiency of an Alternative Physical Education Program for the Lower Grades of Elementary School Children.

(1) Introduction: This research was conducted with the aim of assessing whether an alternative physical education (PE) program could effectively substitute for the traditional PE curriculum and aid in accomplishing the essential goals and objectives of PE among younger elementary school children. (2) Materials and Methods: This longitudinal 6-month study included third-grade elementary school children of both genders, who were healthy, lived in urban areas, and were involved in an alternative PE program, as well as the regular PE classes. The sample of participants comprised 214 students, with 105 participants in the experimental group and 109 participants in the control group, who underwent pre- and post-intervention measurements. For the purposes of this study, 11 variables were applied to assess the parameters of growth and development, motor abilities, and physical and health education. MANCOVA and ANCOVA methods were used to determine the effects resulting from the alternative and regular PE programs, and differences between the groups, respectively. The data are reported as the mean and standard deviations, and were analyzed using the statistical package SPSS version 20.0 (SPSS Inc., Armonk, NY, USA). (3) Results: Based on the research results obtained for motor abilities and physical and health education, it was concluded that both the alternative and regular PE programs had positive effects in achieving the goals and objectives of PE, but without statistical significance at the multivariate and univariate levels. The differences between the two groups were found to be negligible (effect size, ES < 0.2). (4) Discussion: Sports and PE have distinct objectives and approaches. While sports emphasize competition and winning, PE aims to impart fundamental skills and knowledge, prioritizing inclusivity among younger students. Success in PE is measured by the number of students meeting these goals, potentially affecting both talented and struggling learners. (5) Conclusions: The results obtained from the conducted research indicate that both the alternative PE program and the regular PE program influence changes in motor abilities and physical and health education to a limited extent. The alternative PE program proposed in this study, with its modifications to the structure of existing, regular PE program, can fully replace the latter in schools that do not meet the required spatial and material standards.
