Linking Urban Water Management, Wastewater Recycling, and Environmental Education: A Case Study on Engaging Youth in Sustainable Water Resource Management in a Public School in Casablanca City, Morocco

The management of water resources is crucial for sustainable development, necessitating innovative solutions to address the increasing demand for safe water. Alternative approaches must be adopted to effectively engage young generations in understanding the importance of water resources. This chapter reports on an experiment that aimed to promote sustainability education by linking wastewater treatment and reuse with an educational garden. In particular, an undertaking was executed to establish a decentralized wastewater treatment system wherein purified water was employed for the purpose of irrigation. The study’s primary focus is on the association between urban water management, wastewater recycling, and environmental education. The study has two distinct components. The first segment discusses three examples of projects that have employed urban wastewater treatment and reuse to generate environmental education materials using various approaches. The second component features a case study of a public high school in Casablanca, where students participated in a questionnaire and participatory workshops to design an educational garden. The study’s outcomes include a proposed educational garden design that will be presented to the relevant authorities and project partners.

The Relationship of School Students' Environmental Knowledge, Attitude, Behavior, and Awareness toward the Environment: A Systematic Review

The quality of the environment is thought to have deteriorated at an alarming rate. Hence environmental education and awareness become critical steps to mitigate the issue. The current paper attempts to undertake a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) that focuses on the student's knowledge, attitude, awareness, and behavior toward the environment to identify the relationship among these variables as well as the methods for improving the environment. The PRISMA Statement (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) is used in the review process. A total of eleven articles that meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria were collected from three databases: Scopus, Web of Science, and ProQuest. Seven studies examined the relationship among four domains (environmental knowledge, attitude, awareness, and behavior). Two studies found discussed the relationship between environmental knowledge and environmental attitude. While one study only focused on environmental knowledge. Only two publications uncover how important it is to include environmental education in the learning process if we want to make a society that is aware of and cares about the environment. Also, several alternatives could be used to help students learn about the environment, such as outdoor environmental education and teaching materials based on local wisdom.

Environmental Education Berbasis Konsep Islam dalam Mereduksi Aktivitas Kerusakan Ekologis di Kec. Hutabargot Kab. Mandailing Natal

The PKM STAIN Mandailing Natal team carried out a workshop with the theme “Environmental Education Based on Islamic Concepts in Reducing Ecological Damage Activities in Kec. Hutabargot Kab. Mandailing Natal". This workshop activity aims to provide education to the community regarding good environmental management according to Islamic concepts. The idea of implementing this workshop activity refers to the problem of low ethics and public understanding in managing the environment, excessive exploitation of nature through illegal gold mining activities so that the environment is polluted and low attention to environmental hygiene. The method used in this service is the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which is in the form of a workshop to socialize Environmental Education through a community movement that cares about the environment to strengthen public understanding in managing the environment. Based on the evaluation of activities, the results obtained, first, the formation of cooperation between the environmental service and the district government. Hutabargot to form a waste bank management team; second, the establishment of an environmental care movement in every village to promote the importance of a healthy and clean environment; third, the creation of cooperation with religious leaders in each village to include environmental education materials in their da'wah activities as an effort to educate the community in a sustainable manner.

Flash Flood Disaster Mitigation Through Environmental Education

Flash flood disasters often hit many areas in Indonesia and can generate various losses. These conditions are exacerbated by people’s low knowledge and interest in their environment. Therefore, if people’s environmental education increases, especially their flood disaster mitigation knowledge, they can be prepared and better protect themselves from such disasters. People’s environmental education must start from determining the reason of the flood disaster in their environment to discovering how to avoid the disaster. This research design is a one-group post-test design. The collected data in this research is a written test result about knowledge in flash flood disaster mitigation materials as an implementation in environmental education in the community. The research data results were analyzed by means of simple regression, logistics regression, and correlation. Based on this research, environmental education with disaster mitigation materials has a high understanding level. In the disaster step, the highest understanding is before it happens. The correlation between educational strata and gender on environmental education and disaster mitigation materials is low. Finally, the role of women in disaster mitigation needs to improve because they have a higher understanding than males of disaster mitigation materials.

Civic Disposition Based on Ecological Citizenship: A Case Study at SMP Negeri 1 Wirosari

Developing values and morals based on ecological issues provides opportunities for character development models in the educational environment. This study explores the character values of ecological citizenship generated in the Adiwiyata program at SMP Negeri 1 Wirosari. Program Adiwiyata or the green school program can be considered to formalise environmental care values. The research method employed a qualitative approach with a case study research design. Research informants were selected by purposive sampling involving the principal, the head of Adiwiyata, teachers, and students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Interactive data analysis techniques and data validity triangulation used Nvivo 12 plus software. The results show that the Adiwiyata program forms the character of ecological citizenship, including environmental concern, responsibility, mutual cooperation, discipline, and religion. The findings emphasize the potential for increasing ecological citizenship by providing environmental education materials, extracurricular activities, teacher role models, rewards, punishments, and collaboration with various parties. School principals should assess the adiwiyata program regularly so that it will be even better in the future and for teachers to increase motivation in fostering students to develop civic disposition values through adiwiyata activities.

Analysis of Environmental Education Materials in Islamic Religious Education and ‎Character Textbook for Senior High School


 Abstract: The environment education (PLH) material has almost no place in the Islamic Religious Education and character (PAI-BP) textbooks for senior high school levels. Evidently, in the textbooks for grades 10, 11, and 12, none of the chapters specifically contains PLH. Even if there is PLH material, it is integrated into certain chapters with very limited descriptions. In contrast, the environment is one of the important aspects of Islamic teachings, especially in human relations with other creatures and the natural surroundings. Therefore, preserving­ in an Islamic perspective, the environment is not only a noble act but also rewarding worship. On the other hand, destroying the environment is not just an act of violation but also a sin that is threatened with punishment. For this reason, the government needs to revise the curriculum in order to adequately increase the content of PLH material in PAI-BP lessons. This, in the short term, aims to overcome the shortage of PLH materials, PAI-BP teachers need to optimize PLH through habituation, providing examples of clean living and clean environmental activities.

Analisis Kebutuhan Pengembangan Instrumen Literasi Lingkungan Untuk Mahasiswa Pendidikan Biologi FKIP Universitas Ahmad Dahlan

The decline in environmental quality is a severe problem that occurs in various countries in the world. The decline in environmental quality can occur due to several factors, including habitat degradation (pollution), ecosystem damage, and global climate change. Instilling an attitude of caring for the environment in higher education can be done through Environmental Education materials integrated into several courses or stand as a separate subject. The ultimate goal of Environmental Education is to make students have environmental literacy (environmental literacy). This study aimed to analyze the need for the development of environmental literacy instruments and to develop prototypes of literacy instruments. This research is a type of survey research. The research carries out in May – September 2019 at the Biology Education Study Program, FKIP UAD. Data collection techniques using questionnaires and unstructured interviews with questionnaire data collection instruments. Descriptive data analysis technique. Environmental science courses provide information on current environmental issues that students urgently need. After taking environmental science courses, students feel that environmental literacy has increased, but the level of environmental literacy is not yet known. Students and lecturers feel the need to see the level of environmental literacy, so it is necessary to develop an instrument to measure environmental literacy. The literacy instrument that will develop refers to the NAAEE consisting of four components, namely Competence (identification, analysis, investigation, and solution of environmental problems; knowledge (ecological concepts, environmental concepts, and environmental components); disposition (ideas/ideas, concern), sensitivity. ). , solutions to environmental problems); behavior (commitment to care for the environment and concrete actions to care for the environment).

Resource Review: Project Learning Tree PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide

Given growing environmental concerns such as climate change, identifying high-quality environmental education materials that can be used by youth development professionals to meet their educational goals is critical. The Project Learning Tree (PLT) PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide is designed for individuals to develop the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions and take action on environmental issues. The curriculum has activities that youth development professionals can use to teach a wide variety of environmental topics ranging from air quality to food chains, habitats, recycling, and watersheds, to name a few. In addition, as a high-quality environmental education curriculum, the guide assists those who desire to develop skills in youth such as critical thinking, communication, and civic engagement. This review of the PLT PreK-8 Environmental Education Activity Guide provides an overview of the curriculum and how the activities are structured and outlines considerations for its use by youth development professionals.

ASSESSMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION MATERIALS FOR CONTENT COURSES IN THE TEACHER EDUCATION

The Teacher Education curriculum can serve as meaningful context for teaching the future teachers environmentally responsible behaviors. This study aimed to review the Content Courses in the Bachelor of Elementary Education curriculum in order to identify entry points of Environmental Education (EE) integration, to assess the available Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) EE materials, and to develop and validate exemplar session plans with EE integration. The developmental-descriptiveevaluative method of research was used. The data gathering techniques used were documentary analysis, assessment of DENR EE materials using an adapted rubric, and validation of proposed session plans using a researcher-made rubric. A total of 19 syllabi for Content Courses in BEED were analyzed, and 15 DENR EE materials and 22 session plans were assessed. Results showed that the EE concepts can be well-integrated in the Content Courses of the Bachelor of Elementary Education as indicated by the identified entry points for EE integration. The EE materials developed by the DENR were found to be highly appropriate, highly relevant, and highly flexible as instructional materials for EE integration in the different Content Courses. The proposed session plans integrated with EE were rated very good to excellent by the jurors, thus ready for delivery to teacher education students.

Development of ICT-Based Environmental Education Materials in Different Media of Learning

The study Development of ICT-Based Environmental Education (EE) Materials which is intended to be utilized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the National Network of Normal Schools (3NS) is appropriate for formal learning of college students, and for use of adults in the community. It aims to heighten awareness among learners about the significance of the environment, the natural resources, and their protection. The Agile approach using Scrum was utilized for the development of materials. It was able to come up with 15 video clips focusing on global warming, planets, ozone layer, ecological solid waste management, water cycle, and the likes. Three (3) interactive games were also developed on Chemical and Physical Change, Work, Energy & Machines and Food Chain. All the materials developed were assessed by two sets of jurors who are experts in content and technical aspects of the topics. Of the 18 materials developed, one (1) material is recommended for discard, thus, out of 17 materials, 13 were evaluated as “Appropriate” and four (4) as “Highly Appropriate” for use. With the positive evaluation of the jurors, the next step is to conduct pilot testing for it to be utilized by the educators in delivering their instruction to increase awareness among their learners about environmental concerns. The ICT-Based EE Materials are packaged in CD form and accessible for download in the web repository site.

While these subjects have four pillars, namely: Fiqh, Ski, Al-Qur'an Hadist, and Akidah Akhlaq, which are muttering to each other. The school has also successfully integrated formal lessons with environmental education materials. From the description above, the authors formulated the focus of the study as follows: How the values of caring, implementation, inhibiting and supporting factors in the process of growing values of environmental concern in middle school. A. Wahid Hasyim. The research uses a case study qualitative research. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. For data analysis techniques using: data reduction, data display, data verification. To check the validity of the data by: (1) credibility: a. extension of participation, b. perseverance of observation, c. triangulation, d. Negative Case Analysis, e. Using reference material, f. using member check, (2) transferability, (3) dependability, (4) confirmation. The results showed that: The value of environmental care in AWH Middle School was applied both in theory and practice, while for constraints was financing and the formation of new personalities, for supporters in this case the participation of all school members in maintaining cleanliness.

Correlating Project Learning Tree to 4-H Life Skills: Connections and Implications

To determine how Extension educators can use environmental education materials to develop life skills in youths, we correlated a national environmental education curriculum developed by Project Learning Tree (PLT) to the 4-H Life Skills Wheel. Youth development professionals can use the resulting correlations to determine which life skills the various PLT activities help develop. The correlation results also provide insights regarding how PLT activities help develop head, heart, and hands skills.

Study on energy education method for elementary school students to internalize energy conservation behavior

In Japanese elementary school, there are few descriptions about energy in current school curriculum guidelines, and there is not adequate education on the energy that is the basis of the country. Therefore, in this research, the aim is to develop energy conservation environmental education materials that can be incorporated as elementary school classes, in order to establish the attitude of conserving energy conscious awareness and practicing energy conservation behavior. In August of 2018, under the cooperation of local community halls, energy conservation education was conducted for elementary school students who were recruited. Eight participants were divided into two groups, energy education using homebrew textbooks, making models of houses, etc., and classes on energy through discussion and presentation. As a result of the verification, this material is suitable for senior students over 3rd grade and the degree of difficulty is appropriate, and there is a possibility that it may be effective for consciousness formation of energy conservation, but the result of the level being too high for first grader of elementary school.

The Process of Creating Online Animated Videos to Overcome Literacy Barriers in Health Information Outreach

Many U.S. populations, especially the disadvantaged, the elderly, and English language learners, do not possess sufficient health literacy to effectively use the Internet’s health information content in text format. Easy-to-understand, engaging audiovisual resources could greatly increase user access to health information. Unfortunately, there are limited audiovisual resources for specific health topics. This article provides a step-by-step guide for producing low-cost health information animations and describes its application to creating environmental health education materials for a National Library of Medicine website for middle school students. Steps include background research, storyboarding, animating, voice narration/editing, and evaluation.

The Integration of Environmental Education in Science Materials by Using MOTORIC Learning Model

The research of the integration of Environmental Education in science subject matter by application of MOTORIC Learning models has carried out on Junior High School Kupang Nusa Tenggara Timur Indonesia. MOTORIC learning model is a Environmental Education (EE) learning model that collaborate three learning approach i.e. character approach, contextual and multimedia approaches. MOTORIC consists of seven components which constitute the acronym namely: Motivation, Observation, Talking, Orientation, Reinforcement, Implementation and Confirmation. The purpose of this research is to improve the junior high school students’ knowledge about the environment. Futhermore, the study was carried out in February-May 2014, with a sample of class VII students of junior high school in Kupang Indonesia. Environmental education materials are integrated in this study include energy, living sustem, pollution, waste management and conservation. Data was measured by using multiple choice test of environmental knowledge. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The results showed at 95% confidence level (? = 0.05), the integration of Environmental Education materials in science subject matter of junior high school through application of MOTORIC learning models effectively improve students’ knowledge of the environment by 64.15% in large groups of students meanwhile 68.07% in small group of students.

Quest for the eco‐apparel market: a study of mothers' willingness to purchase organic cotton clothing for their children

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to examine what consumer characteristics are related to willingness to purchase and selection of children's organic cotton clothing (OCC). A survey was conducted on mothers of pre‐schoolers to collect data on mothers' environmental characteristics, involvement with OCC and children's clothing, children's clothing purchasing behaviour and willingness to purchase OCC. A buying scenario experiment was used to examine whether price and other product characteristics influenced the participants' selection of OCC. It was found that a mother's environmental concerns, environmental purchasing behaviour and recycling behaviour significantly affected their involvement in OCC, which further significantly determined mother's willingness to purchase OCC. However, mothers were not willing to pay a premium for purchasing children's OCC. A majority (59.5%) of the mothers who selected OCC in the buying scenario indicated fabric softness was the main reason for their selection. Preparing environmental education materials for consumers and producing OCC with high quality and good performance would help improve the acceptance of OCC in the market.

Environmental citizenship: What level of knowledge, attitude, skill and participation the students own?

Now-a-days people think of their responsibility to maintain and protect the environment and this is the responsibility of all including the government, private sectors and individuals. The concept of Environmental Citizenship (EC) redefines the relationship of people and nature and reiterates that environmental conservation is everybody's sole responsibility at all time, based on one's life choices in minimizing ecological impact on earth. In light of this, this study is designed around the concept of EC that gravitates around the Malaysian primary and secondary school student's knowledge, attitude, skills and participation in their daily activities and lifestyles that may bring a positive or negative impact on the environment. Both quantitative and qualitative research approaches were used in this study. The quantitative technique took on the form of a survey administration where 2853 Year-5 primary and secondary school students participated. Qualitative data was collected by open-ended response of the students. The findings determine that the current environmental citizenship level of students is low to moderate. There are many areas within EC domain where students’ level of Knowledge, attitude, skills and participation must be increased to reach expected EC level. In a wider perspective, this study hopes to act as leverage towards more emphasis of EE by Ministry of Education (MOE) in the science curriculum. Most importantly, the findings will also enable the stakeholders to make evidence-based decisions on the contributory factors that can improve the current EC among students, be it budget, Environmental Education (EE) materials or even an EE policy statement in the National Education Policy (NEP).
