Research on ESG System Construction and Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure：A Case Study of CITIC Securities

Since the signing of the Paris Agreement, societal concern regarding climate change and sustainable development has grown exponentially. The construction of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) frameworks and the disclosure of environmental accounting information have garnered significant attention. Constructing a financial ESG framework and refining its environmental accounting system holds paramount significance. This study employs a case study approach, using leading Chinese securities firm, CITIC Securities, as a focal point. It elucidates the complementary relationship between ESG frameworks and environmental accounting within financial institutions. Leveraging databases and publicly available information such as CITIC Securities' annual reports and corporate social responsibility report, the study systematically analyzes the development of CITIC Securities' ESG framework and the current status of environmental accounting information disclosure. Based on these findings, the study identifies issues in CITIC Securities' and other financial institutions' information disclosure practices, such as a tendency towards one-sided disclosure or the presence of "greenwashing" phenomena. Finally, the study proposes measures and recommendations in four key areas: standardization, enhanced disclosure, independent verification, and digitization empowerment.

The Impact of Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure on Financial Risk: The Case of Listed Companies in the Vietnam Stock Market

This research study aims to assess the impact of environmental accounting information disclosure on financial risk within the context of Vietnam’s stock market. The data collection process involved 60 non-financial companies, carefully selected from both the pool of 100 Sustainable Companies listed in the “Programme on Benchmarking and Announcing Sustainable Companies in Vietnam (CSI)”, as organized by VBCSD, and companies outside this list. The data span a timeframe from 2018 to 2022. Afterward, we utilize regression models to assess relationships and employ the t-test to evaluate differences. The results indicate that environmental accounting information disclosure has an inverse effect on the financial risk of the current year and the following year. This implies that companies that are more transparent and proactive in reporting their environmental performance are likely to experience decreased financial risk. Furthermore, the results also show differences in financial risk between the group of companies within the “100 Sustainable Companies” list and the group of companies outside this list. This disparity underscores the potential financial benefits of being recognized as a sustainable company. Based on the findings, the research team has provided several recommendations to enhance environmental accounting information disclosure and awareness.

Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure and Shareholders Investment Decision in Listed Consumer Goods Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria

Adequate disclosure of information enhances investors’ confidence and decision making. The attainment of optimal investment decision making has remained one of the major goals of every shareholder and one of such shareholders’ investment decision is environmental accounting disclosure. Decision of shareholders to invest in consumer goods sector has negative effect on the growth of the sector. Studies have shown that not many listed consumer goods manufacturing firms have integrated environmental accounting information disclosure in their operations. Consequently, this study investigated the effect of environmental accounting information disclosure on shareholders’ investment decision using earnings per share in listed consumer firms in Nigeria. The E x-post facto research design was adopted in the study over the period 2012 to 2021. The population and sample size of the study was 21 and 16 respectively and purposive sampling technique was adopted. Based on the Global Reporting Index (GRI) 2013 criteria, data were gathered from the annual reports of the sampled firms through secondary method of data collection and multiple regression technique of data analysis was used for analysis. The findings showed that there is a positive and significant effect of community development disclosure and employee health and safety disclosure on shareholders’ investment decision making in Nigeria (Adj R2=0,091, F=5.945, p=0.001). The study concluded that environmental accounting disclosure influenced shareholders’ investment decision in listed consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The study recommended among others, that management of listed consumer goods manufacturing firms should continue to increase community development disclosure and employee health and safety disclosure in order to boost earnings per share which will translate to increased shareholders’ investment decision-making because rational investors invest based on informed decision.

The application of RAGA-PP model in environmental accounting information disclosure of enterprises in heavy pollution industries

The global concern for environmental protection has driven the demand for corporate environmental accounting information, especially in heavily polluting industries. Currently, there are deficiencies in China's research on environmental accounting information and its institutional development, and there is an urgent need for improved evaluation systems and models. The study proposes the RAGA-PP model, which is an environmental accounting information disclosure evaluation model that combines accelerated genetic algorithm and projection tracing algorithm. The model is based on 28 secondary evaluation indicators and aims to optimize the projection tracing through the accelerated genetic algorithm with real number coding to improve the stability and accuracy of data analysis. The experiment proves that the evaluation error value of the RAGA-PP model is 3.45 % on average, which is significantly lower compared to 9.55 % of the ant colony algorithm. The results show that the RAGA-PP model has significant advantages in accurately evaluating the quality of corporate environmental information disclosure, which confirms its application value in environmental accounting information disclosure in heavy pollution industries. The purpose of the study is to promote the improvement of the environmental accounting information disclosure system and to provide support for enhancing corporate environmental awareness and social responsibility.

Research on Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure of Yankuang Energy

Promoting green development and promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature is an inherent requirement for the comprehensive construction of a socialist modernized country. Coal enterprises are an important component of China's energy industry, and while promoting high-quality economic development, they have also encountered a series of problems such as pollution before treatment and resource waste. In recent years, among the many binding regulations issued by the government, the requirement for enterprises to disclose environmental accounting related information has been given top priority. Based on this form, this article takes Yankuang Energy as the research object, mainly analyzing it from two aspects of disclosure methods and content, and proposing relevant suggestions for improving information disclosure, in order to promote sustainable development of enterprises.

An empirical study on the relationship between the internal control effectiveness and the quality of environmental information disclosure: public data from listed companies in China's oil and gas industry

As China pays more attention to environmental pollution and environmental protection issues, corporate environmental accounting information disclosure has also received attention from researchers. The oil and gas industry, as the lifeblood of the national economy and at the same time an unavoidably heavy polluting industry, should be more vigorous in environmental protection and the regulatory requirements should be more stringent. Among the factors that affect the quality of corporate environmental information disclosure, internal control has certain research value as an institutional system that regulates corporate behavior. This paper explores the impact of internal control effectiveness on the quality of environmental accounting information disclosure by establishing a multiple linear regression model for empirical analysis, using listed companies in the oil and gas industry from 2016 to 2020 as the research object.

The effect of environmental accounting information disclosure on financial performance of Vietnamese listed industrial firms: The moderating role of Leverage and Big4

Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure (EAID) is the most recent novelty in corporate non-financial information reporting practice. This study aims to evaluate the effects of EAID on the financial performance of Vietnamese enterprises. The population of this study comprises listed companies in the industrial sector on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange for the period of five years (2017–2021). The research employed a purposive sampling technique and some analysis techniques, such as content analysis and regression analysis, including Ordinary Least Squares, Fixed Effects Model, Random Effects Model, and Feasible General Least Squares. The final regression results show a positive effect of EAID on profitability. Specifically, as a moderating variable, leverage weakens the relationship when financial performance is measured by ROA and ROE, whereas the quality of financial statements is assured by the Big 4, which strengthens the nexus between EAID and ROE. The study cannot confirm the negative moderating variable of the duality of the CEO position in the relationship. The research gives implications for improving financial performance with increased EAID and some future research directions.

Enhancing Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure in Indonesian Enterprises: The Role of Environmental Management and Government Ownership

The environmental accounting information disclosure (EAID) is the first approach to offer critical information on an enterprise’s safeguarding ecological activities. The data were used from Indonesian communities and linked socio-economic indicators and environmental information disclosure data at the city level. The objective of this research is to assess the impact of environmental disclosure on public environmental concerns. It is crucial to recognise that corporate initiatives aimed at reducing their environmental footprint yield significant and wide-ranging implications. Here, using three models Pol Lined and Heckman influenced, we analyse the effect of business size on Indonesia’s environmental reporting (IER) disclosures and ratings in 2009–2018. The statistics show a positive relationship between government ownership and IER, with a more prominent link between federal government ownership and IER than local government ownership. This paper argues that to promote the cause of environmental accounting and thus contribute to the goal of capitalism with Indonesian characteristics, Indonesia should improve relevant regulations and standards for information disclosure in environmental accounting, as well as strengthen internal and external supervision of enterprises, creation of a low-carbon, environmentally friendly economy and a society characterised by its emphasis on reusing and recycling materials.

Current Situation and Reflections of Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure in China's Iron and Steel Industry under the Background of "Double Carbon"

China plans to reach peak carbon use by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. This "double carbon" target makes the iron and steel industry, a high-consumption, heavy-polluting, energy-intensive industry, face great challenges. In order to achieve green transformation and promote sustainable development, the iron and steel industry, as a national pillar industry, should raise awareness of environmental protection, increase environmental accounting information disclosure, and improve the level of environmental accounting information disclosure. This paper discusses the current situation of environmental accounting information disclosure in the iron and steel industry, summarizes the current problems of environmental accounting information disclosure in the iron and steel industry, and proposes countermeasures to solve them. It is found that the iron and steel industry currently has problems such as low initiative of environmental information disclosure, less disclosure of negative information, scattered disclosure information, non-uniform disclosure carriers, etc. It is recommended to accelerate the construction of the environmental accounting disclosure system and regulations, improve and standardize the environmental accounting information disclosure system, strengthen the construction of third-party audit, improve the awareness of environmental information disclosure of enterprises, and standardize the environmental accounting information disclosure from both national and enterprise levels Content.

Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure Driving Factors: The Case of Listed Firms in China

This study explores factors that drive environmental accounting information disclosure (EAID) among corporations in China. Using a sample of 200 A-shared listed firms, we apply a structural equation model (SEM) and multiple linear regressions to examine how, and to what extent, external pressure, corporate performance and corporate governance affects the EAID of corporations. The results show that external pressure and corporate performance can significantly and positively affect corporate EAID. Regarding external pressure, government regulations, media pressure and loans are the most important driving factors, whereas profitability and sales ability are the most important ones among corporate performance factors. However, we found that governance factors have no significant impact on EAID. This paper enriches research on environmental accounting information disclosure and provides important insights for Chinese regulators into effective ways of fostering disclosures of environmental accounting information and raising corporate awareness of CSR fulfillment to ensure sustainable development.

Problems and Countermeasures of Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure in Heavy Polluting Enterprises

As the society pays more and more attention to sustainable development, the state requires heavily polluting enterprises to disclose environmental accounting information. Based on the necessity of environmental accounting information disclosure, the paper points out the problems existing in the environmental information disclosure of Chinese enterprises, such as inconsistent disclosure methods , weak awareness of environmental protection , insufficient government supervision and lack of relevant accounting talents, and proposes corresponding standardization Information disclosure methods , improving corporate environmental awareness , increasing government supervision and solutions for improving the capabilities of professionals.

Quality Evaluation of Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure of Y Nonferrous Metal Company Based on AHP-FCE Model

Environmental accounting information disclosure is an important way to achieve the goal of “carbon peak carbon neutrality”, which plays a role in the link between economic development and environmental protection. Select Y Non-Ferrous Metal Company for case analysis, use the AHP-FCE model for comprehensive evaluation of environmental accounting information quality of the company, which use analytic hierarchy process to determine the evaluation factors and factors of weight value, and then use fuzzy synthesis method for multi-level fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. The results show that as a state-owned enterprise, the quality level of Y company’s environmental accounting information disclosure is in the “general” level in the past 5 years, and the intensity of government environmental regulation will promote the quality of the company’s environmental accounting information disclosure. Non-ferrous metal companies should enhance the concept of environmental protection, strengthen the awareness of environmental accounting information disclosure, promote technological innovation in energy conservation and emission reduction, and reduce carbon emission intensity. The government should also provide a favorable social environment and policy support for the non-ferrous metal industry to implement environmental accounting information disclosure, formulate relevant laws and regulations, and continuously strengthen supervision.

Research on environmental accounting information disclosure of listed companies in textile industry

The textile industry is one of the heavy polluting industries in China. It is also one of the industries that the state clearly requires to disclose environmental information on a regular basis. Firstly, this paper analyzes the annual report and social responsibility report of listed companies in Shenzhen and Shanghai main-board textile industry. Then it points out that the disclosure of listed companies in China's textile industry is still existing in the optional way of disclosure, disclosure content is not standard and other problems. Finally, suggestions on rational use of environmental regulation tools and strengthening the construction of environmental audit system are put forward.

Research on Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure of Listed Companies in My Country's Manufacturing Industry

The rapid economic development is inseparable from the support of industrial production and technological progress. Although the material living standard of human beings has been improved, at the same time, the environment on which human beings lives has been destroyed, and physical health is also threatened. Environmental problems are the product of unreasonable use of resources and economic growth. In recent years, my country's environmental protection measures and laws and regulations have been increasingly improved, but the environmental situation is still not optimistic. Manufacturing enterprises are part of the pollution problem and should play an important role in the disclosure of environmental information. This paper analyzes the problems of environmental accounting information disclosure of listed companies in my country's manufacturing industry, and puts forward relevant suggestions and countermeasures accordingly.

DISCLOSURE OF ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING INFORMATION AT BUSINESS ENTERPRISES IN THE HOTEL SECTOR: CASE STUDY IN VIETNAM

This study aims to evaluate the factors affecting the level of environmental accounting information disclosure based on the perceived level of hotel managers. The author has relied on previous studies, especially primary data access studies, to assess managers' feelings about the issue of environmental accounting disclosure. Data was collected from managers at 216 companies operating in the hospitality sector. Quantitative research methods are used to explore the influencing factors and assess the degree of influence of each factor on environmental accounting information disclosure. The results show that the disclosure of environmental accounting information is influenced by the following factors: managers' viewpoints, legal regulations, profitability, business size and pressure from society. From there, the authors make recommendations to improve environmental accounting for companies doing business in the hotel sector in Vietnam, increasing the company's competitiveness in the context of global integration.

Determinants of Social and Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure: An Analysis of Top 50 Firms in New Zealand

In this study, we examine the determinants of voluntary disclosures of Social and Environmental Accounting (SEA) among the top 50 firms in New Zealand over the period of 2011 to 2017. The study is an extension of Hackston and Milne’s (1996), however distinct in various ways; we use a relatively larger dataset spanning over seven years, we look at both qualitative and quantitative SEA information, and we include some additional industry and corporate governance variables that provides insightful results. The study is timely in that New Zealand is the first country to implement mandatory climate risk reporting according the New Zealand Minister for Climate Change, Mr. James Shaw (Climate Disclosure Standards Board, 2020), which is a significant step towards supporting SEA disclosure. Whilst realizing that it is optional for firms to be engaged in SEA disclosures, we come up with a more appropriate research design to examine both qualitative- and quantitative-types of SEA disclosure using probit and logit regressions. To contribute to this area of SEA, we extend our analysis to show the impact of industry-type, board size and board composition. The regression results show that profitability is positively associated with quantitative-type disclosure, and size is positively associated with both quantitative- and qualitative -type disclosures. The big four auditors are indifferent to the types of SEA disclosure; and board size is negatively associated with qualitative-type disclosure, and positively associated with quantitative-type disclosure. At sectoral level, building sector is positively associated only with the qualitative-type, whereas energy, retail and service sectors have positive associations in general. Interestingly, we note that female (male) directors have positive (negative) association with both type of disclosures. This study contributes to the SEA literature by categorizing and looking at both qualitative and quantitative SEA disclosures, looking at the type of industry preferring SEA disclosures, and extending the analyses to include corporate governance variables. In addition, the study presents some important factors that can influence the publication of both quantitative and qualitative SEA information for the interest of researchers, practitioners and regulators working in this domain in order to improve the overall SEA disclosure for firms. Finally, this paper shows the importance of gender balancing on boards in order to be engaged in voluntary disclosures such as SEA.

Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure in China: A Review of Research

This paper focuses on the relevant literature on environmental accounting information disclosure in China, attempts to analyze the four aspects of disclosure method, disclosure content, disclosure quality evaluation method and influencing factors of disclosure quality, and reviews the new research progress in academia in this regard according to the development context and logical relationship of literature. This paper discusses the development direction of relevant theories and analyzes the latest trends in the methods and contents of environmental accounting information disclosure theory, hoping to provide reference and enlightenment for the research on environmental accounting information disclosure in China. Finally, this paper puts forward the direction of possible further research in the future based on the current research situation in China.

Research on Environmental Accounting Information Disclosure - Taking Listed Companies in the Brewing Industry as an Example

One of China's most polluting businesses, the brewing sector, has environmental accounting information that should be disclosed. The statistics of 35 listed companies in the brewing industry in 2021 regarding the disclosure of environmental accounting information are used in this paper, along with an analysis of the status and current issues surrounding the disclosure of environmental accounting information in 2021, to make practical recommendations for improving the level of information disclosure of listed companies in the brewing industry.

The impact of ownership structure and environmental supervision on the environmental accounting information disclosure quality of high-polluting enterprises in China.

It is still controversial whether environmental supervision, as a compulsory means of environmental protection, can improve the environmental accounting information disclosure quality (EAIDQ). There is a growing debate on if different ownership structures will lead to differences in the environmental accounting information disclosed by enterprises? Thus, through constructing multiple linear regression analysis, we empirically studied the impact of ownership structure and environment supervision on the EAIDQ from both internal and external aspects. The findings presented that (1) the overall EAIDQ is not significantly affected by ownership concentration, check-and-balance of ownership, and environmental supervision. (2) The monetary environmental accounting information disclosure quality (M-EAIDQ) is lower than the non-monetary environmental accounting information disclosure quality (NM-EAIDQ). The M-EAIDQ of state-owned enterprises is higher than that of non-state-owned enterprises. The correlation between environmental supervision and the M-EAIDQ is significantly negative, and a significant positive correlation between environmental supervision and the NM-EAIDQ. The research results of this paper can supplement the existing literature and provide a basis for the government to establish environmental accounting information disclosure standards.
