Ecosystem of structural and technological development: restarting growth of firms and entrepreneurial factor

The article examines the problem of structural and technological development of the Russian economy in conditions of an unfavorable external environment. In the context of the digital transformation of the economy at the micro level, several areas of the structural and technological development can be distinguished: generation of new business, accelerated development of successful (growing) enterprises, transition to restarting growth of enterprises that have been showing declining sales for a long time. The purpose of the work is to study the restarting growth of firms. The article assesses its economic results and also explores the influence of the entrepreneurial factor on the transition of enterprises to the restarting growth. The full sample consists of 2 918 enterprises that have been demonstrating a decline in revenue for a long time. This sample has been divided into groups of organisations that show and do not show the restarting growth. Using economic and mathematical methods, we have assessed the rate of revenue growth and examined the influence of the enterprise manager’s personality on the transition to the growth in the context of formed groups of companies. The paper has found that firms with the restarting growth show high rates of revenue growth that exceed its decline during the problematic period. The best results are demonstrated by a group of enterprises with the long-term rapid growth. Consequently, enterprises with the restarting growth can be considered as one of the options for the structural and technological development of the Russian economy along with the generation of new firms and development of growing enterprises. It has been proven that one of the growth factors is human capital, namely the head of the organization (entrepreneurial factor). Manager replacement has occurred more frequently in the group of enterprises with the long-term restarting growth compared to the group of enterprises that have not shown it. We believe that new leaders have initiated processes of digital and technological transformation of the business that lead to long-term growth.

Assuring the Sustainability and Growth of Small and Medium-Sized Manufacturing Enterprises in Botswana: An Exploratory Study

This paper explored the factors that impact the sustainability and growth of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Botswana. A self-administered structured questionnaire was used to survey 348 owners/managers of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in the South Eastern District of Botswana. Descriptive and inferential statistics were generated from the gathered data using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Version 27.0). findings revealed that entrepreneurial factors, firm-specific factors and exogenous factors impacted the growth and sustainability of manufacturing firms in Botswana. In addition, government policies and guidelines, innovation and creativity, human capital development, access to finance, financial management skills and managerial skills were also confirmed as significantly contributing to the growth and sustainability of manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises in Botswana. Key recommendations derived from these findings include the need for policymakers in the government of Botswana and private sector partners to upskill owners/managers of manufacturing enterprises on business planning, financial management, financial literacy, quality management, and market research skills. Furthermore, efforts should be accelerated to promote products manufactured in Botswana to regional and global markets.

This study addresses various facets of entrepreneurship, such as the impact of entrepreneurial factors on achieving high levels of success, the causes of failure, the drivers of growth, and the distinct experiences of micro-businesses owned by African immigrants. Do technological, environmental and entrepreneurial factors affect social commerce adoption?

PurposeIn today’s business world, adopting social commerce for day-to-day operations has increasingly become an important phenomenon. Several factors have been identified by previous researchers regarding the adoption of social commerce, but academic research is scarce on the relationship between the factors influencing social commerce adoption and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the post-COVID-19 situation. This study aims to identify the impact of technological, environmental and entrepreneurial factors on the adoption of social commerce by SMEs in Sri Lanka.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative study utilised the deductive approach and collected data through a field survey by distributing a five-point Likert scale questionnaire to conveniently selected respondents from Sri Lankan SMEs. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used for the analysis of 384 responses.FindingsThe results revealed that technological factors [technology availability (TA) and cost-effectiveness (CE)], environmental factors [bandwagon effect (BE)] and entrepreneurial factors [attitude (AT), innovativeness (IN) and IT knowledge (IK)] have a significant impact on the social commerce adoption of SMEs in Sri Lanka. This study, as the first of its type, offers insightful information on the influence of variables on the adoption of social commerce after the COVID-19 pandemic.Research limitations/implicationsSimilar to any research, this study also has inherent limitations. Due to time and financial restrictions, the study’s convenience sampling method was adopted. The study’s possible limitation is its narrow focus, which could mean that it only examines a select few social media (SM) networks. The study’s conclusions might be less generalised since it focused on the western province of Sri Lanka. Future studies should take a cross-cultural strategy to explore the influence of social commerce adoption to improve the generalisability of research findings.Practical implicationsThis study provides an in-depth assessment of critical factors, facilitating policymakers, owners, leaders and managers (decision-makers) to gain insight into the real influencing factors on social commerce adoption and the significance of SM. The study helps them comprehend how outstanding governance and knowledge of influencing factors can boost SME success in various ways. For example, research reveals that various factors have a major influence on social commerce adoption.Social implicationsThere has been limited research conducted on social commerce adoption after the COVID-19 pandemic period; thus, this study looked at the variables influencing it amongst SMEs in a South Asian developing country like Sri Lanka after the pandemic lasted for two years. By placing a strong emphasis on the role of entrepreneurial characteristics and the available technology within one single framework in the context of SMEs and their involvement with social commerce adoption, this study contributes to the past literature by emphasising the role of several significant factors in SMEs' adoption of social commerce. Whilst previous studies looked at multiple factors influencing the adoption of social commerce globally, this study focussed on how these factors have a significant impact on SMEs in Sri Lanka.Originality/valueThis study developed a multi-perspective framework combining technological, environmental and entrepreneurial factors influencing SMEs to adopt social commerce. The study provides a contribution to the literature on social commerce adoption from the perspective of SMEs in a developing country like Sri Lanka after COVID-19. Exclusively, it examines the impact of entrepreneur-related factors on social commerce adoption.

Drivers of Functioning or Discontinuation of Small-Scale Agri Entrepreneurship in Rural India

Youth in rural India have been witnessing a paradoxical situation of unemployment on one hand and untapped potential for transforming agriculture to agribusiness on the other. Realizing this, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) implemented the “Attracting and Retaining Youth in Agriculture (ARYA)” project since 2016-17. The impact of the project on the extent of livelihood was assessed by comparing ‘functional’ and ‘discontinued’ enterprises with primary data from 1033 units, spread across 25 states of the country. The study attempted to know whether functioning or discontinuation was anything to do with the choice of an enterprise or was it influenced by other factors. Nine types of activities were subjected to economic performance analysis. Despite passing through COVID pandemic, the functional units provided significantly higher quanta of income and employment compared to discontinued enterprises. Composite entrepreneurial factor index, a measure of entrepreneurial ability, was subjected to test the hypothesis that entrepreneurial competencies, age, education, landholding, livelihood-capital status and utilization of information-sources influence the performance of small-scale agri enterprises.

Synthesis Research of Challenges in Educating Roma Students in the Past Decade and Proposed Solutions

The present study aims to propose a learning model in elementary education with an entrepreneurial approach. The research method is applied in terms of purpose and exploratory in nature. Data collection was conducted quantitatively using a questionnaire as the data collection tool. After the execution of the questionnaire, data analysis was performed through both descriptive and inferential methods using SPSS 16 and Smart PLS software. In this research, descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage frequency, frequency distribution tables, and chart plotting, were utilized to describe the characteristics of the questionnaire respondents. The results revealed that the component of entrepreneurial educational factors, the component of entrepreneurial organizational factors, the component of extra-organizational entrepreneurial factors, the component of individual factors, and finally, the component of entrepreneurial management factors were all retained in the analysis because none of the components had a factor loading below 0.3. Consequently, all five components, along with their respective indicators, were accepted as dimensions and components of the learning model in elementary education with an entrepreneurial approach. The fit indices in the factor analysis confirmed the model's overall fit.

The Resilience of Micro and Small Enterprises in Kenya from a Strategic Perspective: A Systematic Literature Review

This article noted the significant contribution of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to the economies of both developed and developing countries and the challenges they face that adversely impact their ability to build capacity to be resilient. Most of the micro and small enterprises (MSEs) die by their fifth anniversary. This study was motivated by the dichotomy between the MSEs’ short life cycle and their valuable contribution to the economies of many countries, and the finding that there are very few studies focusing on their longer-term survival and growth. The objective of this article was to delineate the strategies that build and sustain MSE resilience over the long term; specifically identifying entrepreneurial factors that enhance resilience, and analysing strategic initiatives and strategic resources that the enterprise can leverage to enhance resilience. This article is based on a systematic review of 161 theoretical and empirical studies, that met inclusion criteria, documented in books, official government and private institutional publications, peer-reviewed articles, and conference papers, accessed from library collections, and the internet. An ecological approach was used in the analysis of the findings. The review identified personal entrepreneurial characteristics and psychological traits of the business enterprise owners/managers as the basic behavioural disposition which embeds the development and implementation of resilience strategies. The study identified strategies that are internal and external to the firm, all of which constitute the enterprise’s capability to build resilience.

Coffee agrotourism development strategy in Belok Sidan Village, Petang District, Badung Regency

The study was aimed to determine the strategy for developing coffee agro-tourism in Belok Village, Petang District, Badung Regency. The method used is a qualitative method with interviews, which are then analyzed using SWOT analysis by evaluating strengths and weaknesses as internal factors, opportunities and threats as external factors, and using the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method to calculate the priority weight of the criteria considered. The support from the private sector in developing tourism villages plays a significant role in the development of Belok Sidan Village (strength), the lack of supporting facilities for agro-tourism activities (weakness), the number of tourism workers returning to the village and entrepreneurial factors through MSMEs can play a role in diversifying people's livelihoods (opportunity). Natural disasters/disorders (threats) are a significant factor in developing coffee plantation-based agro-tourism in Belok Sidan Village. Belok Sidan village coffee agro-tourism has the potential as a coffee farming area that can support the economic structure of Badung Regency. Based on the IFAS and EFAS matrix score analysis, the alternative strate-gies used in developing Belok Sidan village coffee agrotourism are developing creative economy businesses, agrotourism digitalization, and Agro Techno Park. According to the AHP analysis results, the Agro Techno Park development is the priority strategy.

This study aims to identify success factors by applying the ERIS model to analyze the process of social ventures increasing the sustainable value of companies through upcycling businesses. To this end, a case analysis was conducted by applying an ERIS model that analyzes the performance of start-ups by selecting social ventures that conduct upcycling businesses using materials such as natural leather seats, seat belts, and airbags collected from automobile production processes and end-of-life automobiles. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the entrepreneur's ability to identify market opportunities and establish an initial system in entrepreneurial factors, build a consistent brand image by securing tangible and intangible resources as resource factors, adapt to competitive industrial environment based on competitiveness, and finally, create value by pursuing sustainability in all corporate activities in strategic factors. Conclusions and implications were drawn based on the above results.

The Effects of Entrepreneurship Leadership on Youth Entrepreneurial Intentions Post-COVID-19: The Case of Gauteng

The purpose of this research was to assess the effects of entrepreneurship leadership on youth’s entrepreneurial intentions in Gauteng province, South Africa. To test this relationship and attempt to answer the research question, “To what extent does entrepreneurship leadership influence youth entrepreneurial intentions post-COVID-19?” a conceptual model supported by the theory of Planned Behaviour was adopted. Data were collected from 825 youths in Gauteng province, South Africa, through a self-administered questionnaire. The Likert scale was applied to the questionnaire. Entrepreneurship leadership was observed to directly relate to attitude towards entrepreneurship and perceived environmental support and entrepreneurial intentions and entrepreneurial action. Furthermore, the results provide evidence that the three antecedents of entrepreneurial intention: attitude towards entrepreneurship, perceived entrepreneurial abilities and perceived COVID-19 environment influence entrepreneurial intention. Participation in entrepreneurship leadership was observed to positively influence youth intentions to become entrepreneurs. Furthermore, policymakers are encouraged to ensure the implementation of regulations that are conducive to business operations and stimulate youth participation in entrepreneurial activities. The obtained results suggest that attitude towards entrepreneurship and perceived environmental support are observed to completely and partially mediate (respectively) the relationship between three independent variables (entrepreneurship leadership, perceived post-COVID-19 environment and entrepreneurship education) and entrepreneurship intention. Leadership in entrepreneurship is crucial as it creates direction for the business in the post-COVID-19 era. This study attempts to address the gap in the literature concerning the effects of entrepreneurial factors on entrepreneurial intentions through the use of Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behaviour.

Internal factors of entrepreneurial and business performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in East Java, Indonesia

The analysis conducted in this empirical study is the direct and indirect impact of internal entrepreneurial factors on the performance of small and medium enterprises. These factors were identified from previous studies from various countries, such as entrepreneurial-innovative work behavior, entrepreneurial leadership, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and entrepreneurial motivation, by taking the research object of small-medium enterprise owners in Java. East, Indonesia. Descriptive statistics and structural equation models were used to analyze the research data. Samples were taken with uncontrolled quota sampling techniques. The research data was collected by distributing questionnaires online with the Google form application and offline. The total respondents were 575 small-medium enterprise owners. The test results showed that internal factors such as entrepreneurial self-efficacy, motivation, and leadership could increase business performance significantly.In contrast, entrepreneurial-innovative work behavior cannot significantly increase business performance. Other test results showed that: 1) entrepreneurial self-efficacy significantly improved entrepreneurial motivation; 2) entrepreneurial leadership significantly improved innovative entrepreneurial behavior; 3) entrepreneurial motivation partially mediated the influence of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on business performance; 4) innovative entrepreneurial behavior did not mediate the influence of entrepreneurial leadership on business performance. The contribution of the results of this study provides additional empirical studies on the role of entrepreneurial leadership, which significantly increases innovative entrepreneurial behavior. There is a lot of potential to develop business existence through entrepreneurial leadership through innovative behavior in entrepreneurship. Another contribution of this study is that entrepreneurial self-efficacy is a dominant predictor of business performance in SMEs and significantly increases entrepreneurial motivation. These findings reveal the importance of self-efficacy for SMEs because high self-efficacy for business actors is expected to increase entrepreneurial self-efficacy and teamwork motivation in helping to achieve business performance.

Analysis of Youth Interest in Work as Sheep Farmers at P4S LKP2U

An increase in the number of demands for lamb meat every year represents livestock business opportunity while the supply from smallholder farmers continues to decline, causing prices to rise yearly. Sustainability is important in the sheep farming business, which older farmer dominated. The objective of this research was to assess the inclination of the younger population towards pursuing careers as sheep farmers after participating at the Pusat Pelatihan Pertanian Pedesaan Swadaya (P4S) of Lembaga Kajian dan Pengembangan Potensi Umat (LKP2U) program in the Madiun Regency. Novelty of the research is the presentation of the latest information on youth interest in working as a farmer. Data collection was carried out in December 2022 using non-probability sampling. The data in this study were analyzed using a Likert scale to measure entrepreneurial interest and demographic factors. Furthermore, a binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between the predictor and response variables. Youth interest after participating in the training program chooses an interest in working as a sheep farmer at 70%. Factors that influence youth interest after attending the training program towards employment as a sheep farmer are demographic factors namely age, marital status, duration of education, parents occupation, parents income, family members, and entrepreneurial factors (e.g personal, environmental, and social).

FACTORS AFFECTING ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF STUDENT IN ACEH AND NORTH SUMATERA

This research examined the effect of Need for Autonomy, Propensity to Take Risk, Attitude towards Entrepreneurial on Entrepreneurial Intention among students in Aceh and North Sumatera. The data were collected from undergraduate’s students in Aceh and North Sumatera randomly, 120 questionnaires were distributed and 114 responses were collected and analyzed. The findings confirmed the positive relationship between variables of the study, except Attitude towards Entrepreneurial. Need for Autonomy, Propensity to take Risk, Attitude towards entrepreneurial factor account for 43.1% of the variance in Entrepreneurship intention. The study try to give some recommendation for the Universities to be mindful of entrepreneurship to motivate student accumulate intentions to start a business.

The study has used qualitative review to highlight the reasons of entrepreneurship and issues faced by emerging entrepreneurs in Pakistan. The study intended to investigate the extant literature on Entrepreneurial Opportunity Recognition. The researchers focused on reputed and leading journals in order to contribute in a more objective manner. A comprehend review indicates that not just entrepreneurial factors but also shows how setups are branded. The study also highlights a comprehensive psychological model for quantitative testing. The previous studies only shows the importance and factors of entrepreneurship, however, this study also have highlighted the reasons for branding in emerging entrepreneurship. The study will impact to elaborate clearly on the information's about not only entrepreneurship but also the directions towards branding.

Creating competitive advantage through entrepreneurial factors, collaboration and learning

PurposeThe purpose of this study was to explore the influence of entrepreneurial attitudes, motivation and orientation on the entrepreneurial competitive advantage of innovative entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality industry, including those involved with bed and breakfasts, travel agencies and restaurants.Design/methodology/approachFirst, the sample for this study was selected through news media reporting on well-known new entrepreneurs, from lists of those entrepreneurs who have won innovation entrepreneurship loan subsidies from the government and from lists of those who have won innovation awards. Second, a pretest was used to confirm the feasibility of the questionnaire. The pretest survey was distributed to a total of 150 tourism and hospitality entrepreneurs. A total of 8 dimensions/facets and 36 items were confirmed. Finally, data collection took place for 9 months. A total of 1,150 questionnaires were distributed, and 606 questionnaires were recovered.FindingsThis study proposes a new multi-integration model of moderation-mediation analysis. The innovative business model explores the relationship between entrepreneurial factors and competitive advantage. Based on a survey of 606 staff members and managers of tourism and hospitality firms, entrepreneurs in the tourism and hospitality industry with entrepreneurial attitudes and motives had opportunities to increase their entrepreneurial orientation.Practical implicationsIn the process of innovative entrepreneurship, whether through organizational learning or other enterprise cooperation, it is necessary to pay more attention and propose different environmental management strategies. In addition, this study also found that marketing uncertainty moderates between entrepreneurial attitudes and entrepreneurial motives. Entrepreneurial motives are more conservative than other motives, and there is increased confidence in investing in innovative entrepreneurship in stable environments.Originality/valueThis study indicates that innovative entrepreneurial tourism and hospitality firms have a mediating or moderating effect on the relationship between entrepreneurial attitudes and positional advantage. If used properly, these resources can help the new entrants in the tourism and hospitality sector avoid the limitations of environmental change, firm size or insufficient information and improve their competitive advantage.

A study on entrepreneurial factors of craft artists

The Taiwanese government has initiated the establishment of cultural and creative industry parks with the aim of fostering the local cultural economy through the strategy of cultural activities clustering. The Cultural Heritage Park is one such publicly operated park. Since 2016, the park has actively encouraged craft workers to establish their businesses within its premises and provided entrepreneurial development resources. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that contribute to the entrepreneurship of craftsmen and evaluate the effectiveness of the government-provided resources. To achieve this, the study employed in-depth interviews and questionnaires administered to administrators of cultural heritage parks and prospective entrepreneurial craftsmen, to explore the public sector's strategies in cultivating entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurial factors are interrelated. The study findings indicate a positive correlation between entrepreneurial prior experience, push and pull factors, motivation, resource utilization, entrepreneurial resources, and entrepreneurial performance. These results offer valuable insights for the public sector to promote entrepreneurship development among craftsmen and effectively manage cultural parks.
