Impact of Technology-Driven Start-ups in Empowerment of Youth in India: An Empirical Investigation

Technology-driven start-ups have appeared as transformative agents, significantly contributing to the empowerment of youth. There is an important part of these start-ups in the innovative sectors like artificial intelligence, fintech, and renewable energy where they are enhancing employment opportunities by generating diverse jobs for youths. Skill-based hiring is prioritised in these start-ups which fosters the economy, offers flexibility and global exposure. “Hands-on learning, access to cutting-edge technologies, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, equipping youth with future-ready capabilities” are skill development drives promoted in these ventures. Technology-driven start-ups empower youth by nurturing culture of innovation, self-reliance, and adaptability which leads to economic and societal transformation, shapes a future-ready workforce and address critical global challenges. Start-ups nurtures entrepreneurship among young population where they provide digital platforms, funding opportunities, and access to mentorship and global networks. They inspire innovation and encourage the entrepreneurial attitude needed to deal with current challenges. A sample of 219 young entrepreneurs from different entrepreneurial sectors were surveyed to explore the factors that shows the Impact of Technology-Driven Start-ups in Empowerment of Youth and found that job creation, skill enhancement, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion are the factors that shows the Impact of Technology-Driven Start-ups in Empowerment of Youth.

Fostering Sustainable Development Through Women’s Entrepreneurship: Psychosocial Factors and Attitudinal Mediation in Colombian Higher Education

University female entrepreneurship has seen significant growth in Colombia in recent years. This study aimed to examine the psychosocial factors that determine the entrepreneurial intent of Colombian university women, specifically analyzing how entrepreneurial attitude mediates the relationship between these factors and the intent to engage in entrepreneurship using a structural equation modeling approach (SEM). A total of 409 university students from various higher education institutions in Colombia participated by completing an online survey. The results demonstrated that extrinsic motivation (β = 0.178 moderate intensity), family environment (β = 0.127 moderate intensity), innovation (β = 0.462 very intense), and intrinsic motivation (β = 0.117 low intensity) positively influence entrepreneurial attitude, which in turn has a significant positive effect on the intent to engage in entrepreneurship (β = 0.709 very intense). Furthermore, innovation, extrinsic motivation, family environment, and intrinsic motivation indirectly influence entrepreneurial intent through their impact on attitude. In conclusion, this study provides a deeper understanding of the psychosocial mechanisms that drive female entrepreneurship in the Colombian university context and lays the groundwork for the design of educational programs and public policies that enhance the talent and entrepreneurial aspirations of women in higher education.

Why Coaching Needs Real Intelligence, Not Artificial Intelligence

The movement of AI into the coaching arena continues to be steady and confident, meeting only rare and timid resistance. The progress of this movement can be explained by decades of technological advances, the entrepreneurial attitude of AI developers, and the inherent peculiarities of the coaching business. The voices of caution are too quiet in ‘the noise of progress’. However, there are important reasons for coaching communities to be apprehensive about the ways this movement could change coaching as a service and what this means for all involved. In this paper, I address potential problematic issues with the AI revolution in the context of a multitude of conceptual holes in coaching as a profession. I argue that dehumanising coaching under the guise of ‘enhancement by AI’ undermines human intelligence, which is desperately needed while the discipline of organisational coaching remains in its early stages of development.

The role of halal value chain, Sharia financial inclusion, and digital economy in socio-economic transformation: a study of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact of the halal value chains (HVCs) in the Islamic boarding schools (IBSs) for the food and fashion industry on socio-economic transformation, focusing on changes in entrepreneurial attitudes, quality of life and social inclusion. The study also incorporates HVCs as a mediating variable to assess the indirect influence of Sharia financial inclusion and economic digitalization on socio-economic transformation. Design/methodology/approach This research uses a quantitative approach using primary data collected through surveys. The population consists of IBSs registered in the Independence Program of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The research sample was selected using purposive sampling, and the research model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modeling with WarpPLS 8.0 software. Findings The results of the direct analysis indicate that halal value chain (HVC) has a positive and significant effect on socio-economic transformation. The indirect analysis reveals that HVC plays a strategic role in facilitating the impact of Sharia financial inclusion and digital economy adoption on changes in entrepreneurial attitudes, quality of life and social inclusion. The findings are further validated through multigroup analysis, demonstrating the robustness of the result. Practical implications The results highlight two key points. First, the positive characteristics of the IBS-HVCs, enabled by Sharia financial inclusion, will drive the continuous development of new services, products, networks, collaborations and capital support, leading to the expansion of a financially inclusive and equitable HVC system from the IBSs to the broader community, with significant social and economic impacts nationally and internationally. Second, the adoption of economic digitalization within IBSs will enhance productivity and efficiency for business management, fostering expanded business models and facilitating upward social mobility. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to explore the role of HVC in socio-economic transformation. Additionally, it uses HVC as a mediating variable to explain the relationship between Sharia financial inclusion, digital economy and socio-economic transformation. A robustness test through multigroup analysis further strengthens the study’s contributions.

ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA SABAH, LABUAN INTERNATIONAL CAMPUS

Amidst Malaysia's notable unemployment challenges, there exists a burgeoning interest in harnessing entrepreneurship as a catalyst for job creation, economic advancement, and individual empowerment. This investigation endeavors to scrutinize the determinants shaping entrepreneurial inclinations among undergraduate students, particularly within the confines of Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSLIC). Leveraging the framework of the Theory Of Planned Behavior (TPB), this inquiry delves into the entrepreneurial aspirations of undergraduate cohorts, augmented by the incorporation of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and the need for achievement as pertinent variables. Data acquisition was facilitated through an online survey administered to 188 undergraduate participants at UMSLIC, employing a convenience sampling method. Subsequent hypothesis testing was carried out employing SPSS version 27. The outcomes reveal a positive correlation between Entrepreneurial Attitude (EA), Perceived Behavior Control (PBC), Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy (ESE), and Need for Achievement (NA) with Entrepreneurial Intention (EI) among the targeted demographic. However, Subjective Norm (SN) was observed to bear no significant influence on Entrepreneurial Intention (EI) among undergraduates at UMSLIC. These empirical insights can be instrumental for policymakers in crafting tailored interventions and initiatives aimed at fostering and augmenting student engagement in entrepreneurial pursuits.

Entrepreneurial Intention of Higher Education Graduates from Guayaquil: Validation of the Theory of Planned Action

Entrepreneurship is born from the initiative of a person to establish their business idea in a legal field to generate impact in the social and economic field. Likewise, the person's perceived level of education is a variable that can also influence the intention to start a business, an indicator of growth in the rate of entrepreneurship. The present research aims to identify what factors and attitudes graduates in higher education from Guayaquil-Ecuador have regarding the entrepreneurial approach. Being a type of exploratory and descriptive research, where the business values and intentions (VIE) questionnaire was applied as an instrument, which incorporates the factors of the theory of planned action and Schwartz's theory of personal values, to a sample of 439 professionals to correlate the dimensions that affect entrepreneurial intention, such as entrepreneurial attitude, subjective norm, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and values; and for its estimation, structural equations were used to validate the variables of the proposed research model and the incidence of the factors on entrepreneurial intention.

The Influence of Emotional Competencies on the Entrepreneurship Intentions of University Students in Colombia

The main objective of this article is to analyze the effect of a group of predictors on entrepreneurial intention from the perspective of emotional competencies. To achieve this aim, a sample of 996 students belonging to ten public and seven private universities was selected, with each university having been granted high-quality accreditation by the Colombian Ministry of Education. The theoretical approach was based on Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and the empirical analysis was based on structural equation models. Eight hypotheses were tested, with entrepreneurial intention as the dependent variable and emotional competencies, subjective norms, entrepreneurial self-efficacy, and entrepreneurial attitude as independent variables. The information was obtained by applying a questionnaire with a Likert scale to students of subjects related to entrepreneurship. From the findings of the study, it is concluded that in the two ecosystems analyzed (public and private), emotional competencies (EC) have neither a direct influence on entrepreneurial intention (EI) nor an indirect one since no significant influence is observed between emotional competencies and entrepreneurial attitude; however, a direct and positive effect was recorded between the self-efficacy and entrepreneurial attitude constructs on entrepreneurial intention. In addition, it is observed that subjective norms (SN) do not directly affect EI, but they do influence it indirectly, being mediated by entrepreneurial attitude and self-efficacy. The contribution of this study is focused on obtaining a better understanding of the entrepreneurial intentions of university students in Colombia, which will make it possible to foster strategies for the generation of youth employment and public policies to promote various entrepreneurial initiatives. This could be based on government regulations adopted in the last decade, which are still under development, and the broad participation of university students and research groups of higher education institutions. Furthermore, given the dearth of research examining the impact of emotional competencies on the entrepreneurial intentions of young Colombian university students, this study aims to bridge the existing knowledge gap, thereby contributing to the development of a more robust body of literature that can inform the design and implementation of educational strategies and public policies aimed at fostering entrepreneurship within the university ecosystems of this country.

Creativity disposition on entrepreneurial attitude and intentions: A comparison between regular and distance (blended) learning university students

This study examined the entrepreneurial intentions (EIs) of conventional and blended learning students at a technical university in Ghana, using the theory of planned behaviour as a framework. Hypotheses were formulated to examine the moderating role of university support systems on the relationship between creativity disposition and entrepreneurial intentions. Data from 372 students were gathered through an online survey and analyzed using Smart-PLS software. Results indicated that creativity and attitudes toward entrepreneurship positively influenced entrepreneurial intent in both student groups, with attitude partially mediating the creativity-intent link. However, university support negatively moderated this relationship. A multi-group analysis showed no significant difference in EIs between the two student cohorts. Recommendations were made for the adoption of hybrid learning and policy considerations for universities.

Breaking down entrepreneurial barriers: exploring the nexus of entrepreneurial behavior, innovation, and bank credit access through the lens of the theory of planned behavior

Access to finance is a primary concern for enterprises, serving as a critical component of tangible resources within the Resource-based View (RBV) framework and driving entrepreneurial activities globally. Bank credit stands as the preferred source of debt financing for enterprises, yet information asymmetry between lenders and borrowers poses significant credit obstacles. To address these challenges, we leverage the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), contending that entrepreneurs’ personal attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms influence bank credit access. Additionally, we argue that innovation performance, an intangible resource within RBV, facilitates credit access by enhancing firms’ quality and creditworthiness from lenders’ perspectives. This paper aims to examine the relationships between TPB constructs, bank credit access, and innovation performance, as well as the mediating role of innovation performance, through an analysis of 1367 enterprises across diverse European countries. Our findings reveal that innovation performance fully and inconsistently mediates the relationships between personal attitude-credit access and subjective norm-credit access, as the direct impacts of personal attitude and subjective norm on bank finance are found to be insignificant and negative, respectively. These results underscore the pivotal role of innovation performance in linking entrepreneurial behaviors to credit access, contributing to the uniqueness of this research within the entrepreneurship literature. Moreover, our study emphasizes the need for training initiatives that foster innovative and entrepreneurial attitudes among firm executives, thereby facilitating easier credit access. As highlighted by our cross-cultural analyses, these implications extend beyond national borders, offering valuable insights for enhancing credit accessibility across diverse contexts.

The impact of university entrepreneurship support on college students' entrepreneurial intention: A cognitive-affective perspective

This study constructs a cognitive-affective analysis framework, takes 5468 college graduates in Shaanxi Province, China, as samples, and utilizes two partial least squares structural equation models (PLS-SEM) to systematically examine the impact of university entrepreneurship support (UES) and its sub-dimensions on college students' entrepreneurial intention (EI). The findings show that in the overall PLS-SEM model, UES significantly affects students' EI. Likewise, UES affects the fear of entrepreneurial failure (FEF), entrepreneurial attitude (EA), and entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE), which in turn determines EI. Meanwhile, the mediating roles of FEF, EA, and ESE in the relationships of UES and EI are validated. Furthermore, Findings point out that in the sub-dimension PLS-SEM model, some dimensions of UES have significant direct effects on FEF, EA, ESE, and EI, while others have no significant influences. More importantly, we reveal that FEF, EA, and ESE do not mediate the relationship between all of UES's dimensions and EI. The results also illustrate that FEF and ESE significantly impact EA. These findings enrich entrepreneurship research and offer practical implications for university administrators to improve UES and EI.

DETERMINANTS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTS AMONG ENGINEERING STUDENTS: INSIGHTS FROM THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DARES SALAAM, TANZANIA

This paper aims to investigate the determinants of entrepreneurial intentions among engineering students at the College of Engineering and Technology (CoET) in the University of Dar es Salaam. Understanding the factors influencing students intends to pursue entrepreneurial actions, the paper addresses the insights to adopt entrepreneurial attitudes built within engineering curricula that emphasized determinants to nurture entrepreneurial intentions among university students across different degree specializations. Demographic characteristics such as gender, family background, attitude, entrepreneurial support, and learning from role models were considered. Primary data was collected through structured questionnaires and secondary data was from the internet, journals, and books. A total of 124 (82.67%) questionnaires were duly filled out and returned. Data was analysed using SPSS V.25 to conduct descriptive and inferential statistics. Generally, the need for independence is the key factor in the entrepreneurial intent of future engineers. The study revealed that most students had entrepreneurial intentions emanating from attitudinal factors such as creativity, leadership, locus of control, the need for achievement, and government entrepreneurial support. Both age and family background have insignificant influence on entrepreneurial intention among engineering students. It is recommended that, various agents have to be involved in increasing the promotion towards the creation of business enterprises and encouraging more female students to enroll in engineering studies.

Entrepreneurship education and digital transformation, opportunities and challenges in Indonesia

This article explores the landscape of entrepreneurship education in Indonesia amid the wave of digital transformation. The research method uses Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to review research results sourced from journals indexed in Sinta or nationally accredited journals in Indonesia which can be accessed on Google Scholar. The conclusion, (i) Digital transformation-based entrepreneurship education creates a new learning model in colleges with the aim of developing entrepreneurial attitudes and values among young people, especially students, so as to produce entrepreneurial intentions. (ii) Higher education as an entrepreneur education provider must follow the progress of digital transformation in the teaching process of entrepreneurship education so that digital literacy among lecturers and students is getting better. (iii) The participation of stakeholders, the Government, college and the business world, is expected to provide support in policy making, especially curriculum changes in accordance with current circumstances in creating new business actors or entrepreneurial intentions.

Praksis Pembelajaran Kewirausahaan Pada Unit Produksi Jasa Boga

The Praxis of Entrepreneurship Learning in the Food services Production Unit. This study aims to investigate teachers’ concepts of entrepreneurship learning, entrepreneurship competencies developed in the production unit, and entrepreneurship learning processes in the production unit of food services in SMK Negeri 6 Yogyakarta. This study employed the qualitative case study. The research subjects were the principal, head of the study program, head of the production unit, and students. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The result shows that: (1) Entrepreneurship learning needs hands-on-experiences-based; (2) the entrepreneurship competency developed through the production unit includes a) entrepreneurship knowledge, consisting of self-knowledge and practical knowledge, b) entrepreneurship attitudes, consisting of work ethos, autonomy, discipline, creativity, and innovativeness, and c) entrepreneurship skills, consisting of: technical skill, human relations skill, conceptual skill, decision making skill, time management skill, and leadership skill; (3) no instructional standard employed in to develop entrepreneurship in production unit. There are three entrepreneurship learning models employed in the production unit: inside production, outside production, and mobile canteen. The learning outcome is measured in two ways, i.e. performance and product monitoring. Meanwhile, evaluation of the students’ learning progress is conducted by using profit-based evaluation. The Role of Entrepreneurial Attitude as a Moderating Variable in the Influence of Government Support on Business Success in Surabaya

Business success is often influenced by various external and internal factors, including Government Support and Entrepreneurial Attitude from business actors. This study aims to analyze the influence of Government Support on Business Success on business actors in Surabaya, focusing on Entrepreneurial Attitude as a moderation variable. A quantitative approach was used in this study, involving a survey of 250 MSMEs in Surabaya as a research sample. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the SEM model with the Smart PLS data processing tool to determine the extent to which Entrepreneurial Attitude mediates the relationship between Government Support and Business Success. The results of the study show that Government Support has a significant positive influence on Business Success. In addition, Entrepreneurial Attitude strengthens this positive influence, where business actors with a high Entrepreneurial Attitude tend to be more able to take advantage of Government Support to achieve business success. These findings emphasize the importance of developing an Entrepreneurial Attitude in strengthening the effectiveness of Government Support for business actors. The practical implications of this study indicate that government policies should consider aspects of developing Entrepreneurial Attitude to encourage sustainable Business Success.

Systemic Approach in the Study of the Current State of Knowledge in the Field of University Management

Theoretical background: Analyzing the current set of publications relating to the issues of university management, one can distinguish a set of works relating to, among others, the quality of management at universities, the issues of sustainable development of universities, adapting teaching and research to the needs of industrial enterprises, concepts of university quality management, communication barriers at an academic university, and issues of human resource management in higher education. Regardless of the area of research, the work draws attention to the lack of consistency in the concepts which are used to understand the specific field of university management, the rigorous conceptual framework deficiency and valuable contribution to theory development is limited. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to organize the current research results related to the issues of university management. The work uses the integration of the concept of systematic literature review with a tool supporting systemic thinking, i.e. System Operator. The paper points to the benefits resulting from the use of a tool derived from the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) in shaping the image of the current state of knowledge, in a holistic approach. Research methods: The method of systematic literature review was used in the work. Research activities were divided into four stages, (1) determination of the purpose of the study, (2) selection of basic literature (n = 1,534), and selection of publications (n = 999) and development of a publication database, (3) biblimetric analysis, using content analysis and (4) development of a report using a tool supporting holistic thinking, i.e. System Operator. Main findings: As a result of the conducted research, six clusters relating to the issues of education and its evaluation (Cluster 1), management of human factors, including students, researchers and administrative staff (Cluster 2), shaping entrepreneurial attitudes, including knowledge and innovation management (Cluster 3), university management in the education system (Cluster 4), issues related to sustainable development and leadership policy (Cluster 5 and Cluster 6) were distinguished. As a result of content analysis, 16 thematic areas in general terms were distinguished in the scope of identifying research problems raised in the collection of the most frequently cited scientific publications. In the last one, as a result of the use of System Operator, the research problems raised in the analyzed set of publications were mapped in a comprehensive manner, i.e. determining the relations between individual elements of university management and university environment, as well as in terms of time, relating to the evaluation of past activities and strategies, research into current solutions, as well as works related to shaping the concept of future solutions in the field of university management.

The impact of sustainable entrepreneurship education and self-efficacy on students' entrepreneurial mindset and attitude

This study aims to foster a shift in students' entrepreneurial mindset through sustainable entrepreneurship education. This initiative is expected to contribute to the recovery of the MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) sector while enhancing the quality of education by expanding the content of entrepreneurship courses, inviting experts to share their experiences, organizing events to promote student products, and facilitating internships in the entrepreneurial industry. Data were collected through questionnaires, with responses measured using a Likert scale. A literature review was also conducted to support the research. The population of this study consists of students from universities in West Jakarta, with a sample of 153 respondents. The data were analyzed using a structural equation modeling approach based on components or variances. The results of hypothesis testing reveal that: (1) Entrepreneurship education has a positive and significant effect on the entrepreneurial mindset; (2) Self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on the entrepreneurial mindset; (3) Entrepreneurship education has a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial attitude; (4) Self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial attitude; (5) Entrepreneurial attitude has a positive and significant effect on the entrepreneurial mindset; (6) Entrepreneurial attitude does not mediate the relationship between entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial mindset; and (7) Entrepreneurial attitude does not mediate the relationship between self-efficacy and entrepreneurial mindset.

Igniting the Flames of Entrepreneurial Intentions: Unravelling the Dynamics of Perceived Business Feasibility, Self-perceived Altruism, Innovativeness and Uncertainty Among University Students

The study seeks to elucidate the enablers shaping students’ entrepreneurial intentions across India’s top five central universities. The study evaluated the entrepreneurial intentions of 730 university students utilizing structural equation modelling and augmenting the theory of planned behaviour (TPB), the entrepreneurial event model (EEM) and the social entrepreneurship theory (SET). Mediation and moderation techniques facilitated the examination of the direct and indirect linkages in the model. The findings reveal that perceived behavioural control (PBC), entrepreneurial attitude, subjective norms and self-perceived altruism magnify perceived business feasibility (PBF), significantly escalating students’ entrepreneurial intentions. PBC and PBF partially mediate the relationship among the underlying constructs. In addition, perceived innovativeness reinforces the association, while perceived uncertainty weakens the association between PBF and students’ entrepreneurial intentions. The study’s findings could help policymakers, social entrepreneurs, educational institutions, impact investors and global development agencies strengthen India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Self-perceived altruism and PBF have not received adequate attention in entrepreneurship. We attempt to embrace these constructs and crucial personality traits by extending the horizons of TPB, EEM and SET using a precise conceptual model.

Mechanisms of weak ties developing women entrepreneurship behaviors

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to clarify what kind of interaction the weak ties among an entrepreneurship development program’s participants brought about, and how the ties changed their entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors through interviews. The entrepreneurship development program was implemented using an accompanying group-type approach for developing Japanese women entrepreneurs in 2023. Four months after the program, semistructured interviews were conducted with seven participants and one mentor in the program, and a thematic analysis was conducted. The results indicated that the program enabled each participant to voluntarily engage in “Interaction Caused by a Give-and-Take Mentality,” “Acceptance of Advice from Mentors,” and “Connections Distancing From Strong Ties.” Furthermore, “Degree of Involvement and Environmental Setting of Supporters” was found to be an important foundation for the strong functioning of weak ties. Our findings will provide valuable insights for policy makers providing support infrastructure for women entrepreneurs and for practitioners within the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
