Today kindergartens are defined not only as places of safe stay of the child, but as educational, developing institutions, among which the primary tasks of which are personal formation, education, socialization of children. The issues of saving material and energy resources, the transition to the design and construction of energy efficient facilities, including buildings for children, are becoming increasingly relevant. The article identifies that today most kindergartens are housed in buildings built on typical Soviet-era designs that do not meet many modern requirements. Another important aspect is the demographic situation in the country, which is changing over time. There are declining birth rates due to economic and socio-political circumstances in the country. To increase comfort, the area of all premises should be increased. The positive factor is the availability of the pool.A new approach to the reconstruction of existing kindergartens built during the 1970s and 1980s in enlarged neighborhoods on typical projects is proposed, which consists in the organization of a complex of pre-school educational institutions located on the sites of existing kindergartens with partial use of these institutions, reconstruction also with partial demolition and new construction. The idea of such a complex is to organize on the territory of the enlarged residential district, within the existing sections of preschool institutions, autonomous children's centers, for the service of which is formed a single service center for preschool educational establishments with centralized club, administrative rooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, additional sports halls. By bringing kindergarten maintenance functions to a separate unit in existing areas, you can more effectively use the territories to create a comfortable nursery environment with modern spacious rooms. The complex can also include new small cells for children, located in premises built into residential buildings, which is allowed by modern standards. This approach is an effective direction in solving complex urban problems of limiting land resources in the formation of educational institutions in residential neighborhoods.
