Effect of Farmer Group Empowerment and Agribusiness Training Program on Productivity and Income of Coffee Farmers in West Java

This study investigates the impact of Farmer Group Empowerment and Agribusiness Training Programs on the Productivity and Income of coffee farmers in West Java. The research utilizes a quantitative approach with a sample of 200 coffee farmers and significantly positively affect ploys Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Squares (PLS) to analyze the relationships between the key variables. The results indicate that both Farmer Group Empowerment and Agribusiness Training Programs significantly positively affect Productivity and Income. However, Farmer Group Empowerment shows a stronger impact on productivity compared to training programs, emphasizing the importance of collective action in enhancing farming practices. These findings highlight the need for an integrated approach to agricultural development, combining empowerment with technical training to ensure sustainable improvements in farmers' livelihoods. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and agricultural development practitioners seeking to promote rural development and increase smallholder farmers' productivity and income.

Political economy of farmer group empowerment policy to support the achievement of SDGs

The policy of forming and strengthening farmer groups is not a practical solution for advancing agriculture/improving farmer welfare. Strengthening institutions and empowering farmer groups is not merely a matter of agricultural economics, but of political economy. The problem is, there are many technical and non-technical obstacles that place farmer groups as actors in sustainable agricultural policy and development in accordance with SDGs #2. This study discusses the complexity of agricultural problems in Watu Lanur Village, Poco Ranakan Sub-District, East Nusa Tenggara. The less than optimal natural carrying capacity, the socio-economic conditions of rain-fed farmers and the lack of intensive assistance from the government are among the causes. Empowerment of farmer groups is hampered by subsistence ethics and socio-cultural issues (customs/traditions). This study uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and observations of farmer groups. This study shows that the community is trying to empower itself by helping farmer groups. However, in the process, technical and non-technical obstacles are still found that do not support the community's innovation movement. The conclusion of this study is that farmer group institutions are weakened and less oriented towards implementing sustainable agriculture as a result of the establishment of farmer groups simply to fulfill formal aspects of empowering farmers in order to improve farmer welfare and less use of local knowledge in empowering farmer groups.

The Role of Agricultural Extenders in Empowering Nagari Siguntur Tua Farmers’ Group

Agricultural extension workers are professionals responsible for providing guidance and assistance to farmers in improving agricultural productivity and welfare. They are an extension of the government or agricultural institutions in delivering information, technology, and skills to farmers. The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the role of agricultural extension workers in efforts to empower farmer groups. (2) Knowing the effect of the role of agricultural extension officers on the empowerment of farmer groups. Agricultural extension officers also play a role in coordinating agricultural activities at the local level, such as extension, training, and agricultural programme development. Apart from providing technical guidance, agricultural extension officers are also tasked with encouraging farmers to implement sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

The Influence of Characteristics and Institutions on the Empowerment of Cocoa Agribusiness Farmer Groups in South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Agricultural development, specifically cocoa agribusiness, is largely determined by the human resource. When human resources possess high motivation, creativity, and the ability to develop innovation, agricultural development is significantly improved. This phenomenon shows the necessity to strive for empowerment of farmer for capacity improvement. Therefore, this study aimed to (1) describe the level of empowerment of individual farmer and their groups, and (2) analyze influence of individual characteristics of farmer, groups, and the role of counseling in empowerment of groups member. The analysis was carried out in Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, using a combined quantitative and qualitative design. A total of 70 respondents and 12 informants were included, consisting of farmer groups administrator, extension workers, and heads of estate services. Data collection was carried out through surveys and in-depth interviews. Meanwhile, data processing and analysis for this study used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) Partial Least Square (PLS). The results showed that both farmer and groups empowerment were mostly in the medium category. Furthermore, characteristics of individuals, farmer groups, and the role of counseling significantly affected empowerment of members, including groups. Empowerment of farmer groups also influenced the success of cocoa agribusiness. These results showed that the development of cocoa agribusiness required high empowerment of individual farmer and groups as farmer institutions.

ANALYSIS OF NEEDS AND CONSTRAINTS IN THE FARMER GROUP EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM IN THE USE OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS IN KALISAT DISTRICT, JEMBER REGENCY

Procurement of organic fertilizers is one of the efforts that can be made to restore soil organic matter to increase the production value of the agricultural sector in Jember Regency. Issues about the environment and low soil organic nutrient content also occur in Jember District, especially in Kalisat District, which causes the importance of applying organic fertilizers. The importance of using organic fertilizers requires the participation of farmer groups to be more empowered in producing and using organic fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to analyze the needs and constraints faced to develop a strategy for developing a farmer group empowerment program in the use of organic fertilizers in the Kalisat subdistrict, regency Jember. This research is classified as a qualitative research which aims to analyze the key factors in the farmer group empowerment program. The results showed that in the elements of program needs there were two needs which were key factors, namely organic farming production facilities and local government policies. In the element of constraint there are two key obstacles namely the low knowledge of farmers and the limitations of organic fertilizer processing tools and machines. The resulting strategy is in the form of: 1) Addition of organic farming production facilities. 2) Alignment of local government policies by adding programs to promote the use of organic fertilizers in Jember Regency in the main program of Jember Mandiri. 3) Increase farmer's knowledge related to the manufacture of organic fertilizers through counseling.

Strategy analysis of social capital and intellectual capital in increasing empowerment of rice farmer groups in Kuok district Kampar Regency

Social capital and intellectual capital become the determining factors in increasing the empowerment of farmer groups, including farmers' groups for rice commodities. Rice is the main commodity in Kuok District with the largest planted area, harvested area, and total production in 2020. The objectives of this study are; 1) Identify the forms of social and intellectual capital in farmer groups, and 2). Formulate social and intellectual capital strategies in increasing the empowerment of farmer groups. The research was conducted in Kuok District, Riau Province. Respondents were determined by purposive sampling consisting of a rice farmer who became the chairman, and two members who were actively involved in group activities. The data analysis used is the Likert scale analysis, and Analytical Hierarchy Process. The results showed; The condition of social capital of rice farmer groups in Kuok District is at a moderate level with an intensity of 50.97 percent, whereas the same category is also found in intellectual capital with an intensity level of 51.93 percent. The level of empowerment of rice farmer groups in Kuok District is included in the "powerless" category with an intensity level of 35.15 percent. The strategy to increase empowerment through social capital and intellectual capital which is carried out in farmer groups is carried out with the main priority being directed to a pilot project that is managed by 1 (one) farmer group as a pilot accompanied by extension workers and other related institutions and can then be adopted by farmer groups other.

Efforts to Improve Community Welfare Through Farming Group Empowerment from an Islamic Economic Perspective

This study aimed to determine the level of community welfare through farmer group empowerment from an Islamic economic perspective. This research includes field research (field research). The method used in this research is qualitative data analysis with a descriptive nature. The results showed the implementation of community empowerment for the prosperous Sido farmer group towards improving the welfare of the community in Sidoharjo Village through counseling programs and skills training. The implementation of community empowerment of the prosperous Sido farmer group in Sidoharjo Village can be said to be successful. The members admitted that there was an increase in knowledge and skills in agriculture, obtained new information about agriculture, increased income before they joined and after joining the prosperous Sido farmer group, and were very enthusiastic about the empowerment program. This means that the empowerment of the Sido prosperous farmer group community has a positive effect in improving the welfare of the Sido prosperous farmer group members in Sidoharjo Village, Jati Agung District, South Lampung Regency, and the Sido prosperous farmer group member community can already be said to be a prosperous society. Empowerment in the view of Islamic Economics is seen from the principles of Islamic Economics that community empowerment for members of the prosperous Sido farmer group is following the rules or limitations in Islam that Allah SWT has determined to achieve falah in the world the hereafter and for welfare. Cattle corporation village program as small-scale farmer group empowerment to support National beef self sufficiency

Government of Indonesia has implemented various programs to increase cattle population and beef production. In 2020, Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health Services, Ministry of Agriculture has introduced Cattle Corporation Village Program (CCVP). The study aims to identify the capability of small-scale farmer group empowered by CCVP on good farming practices, availability of forage, utilization of infrastructure and colony cages, and corporate institution formed by farmers. The study was located at Cianjur District in 2022. The primary and secondary data were obtained by survey and interview that analyzed by qualitative descriptive. The results of the study indicate: (1) capability of farmer is encouraged to develop good farming practices with business scale; (2) the productivity of cattle should be supported by the sufficiency of forages and additional concentrate; (3) facilities has been provided by CCVP utilized by farmers, however the improvement of some facilities may required; and (4) CCVP is designed as profitable integrated corporation farming for small-scale farmers with upstream to downstream business integration. Through the CCVP, farmers are empowered and assisted in implementing good farming practices with business-scale. In addition, they will obtain some support from various institution and stakeholders to increase their income and welfare.

PEMBERDAYAAN DAN PERAN KELOMPOK TANI DALAM USAHATANI PADI SAWAH DI KABUPATEN BONE

The research was conducted to 1)Analyze the empowerment of farmer groups in the management of lowland rice farming in Toro Village, 2 Analyze the role of farmer groups in the management of lowland rice farming in Toro Village, 3)Analyze the production and income of lowland rice farming in Toro Village, 4)Analyze the influence of empowerment of farmer groups on the productivity of lowland rice in Toro Village, and 5)Analyzing the influence of the role of farmer groups on the productivity of lowland rice farming in Toro Village. The research was conducted in Toro Village, Tanete Riattang Timur District, Bone Regency in October-November 2021 from 17 farmer groups. Survey research method with purposive sampling, with 51 farmers as a sample. Farmer groups in Toro Village through the ability of farmer groups in managing information, managing farms, market production and application of technology are included in the very good category with an index of 82.9%. The role of farmer groups in Toro Village as a place of learning, a vehicle for cooperation and production units play a good role in increasing the productivity of lowland rice farming. Lowland rice farming is profitable for farmers with an average income of lowland rice in Toro Village of Rp. 22,084,070 and the average total cost of production is Rp. 3,260,108 and the average income of farmers per planting season is Rp. 18,823,963. Empowerment of farmer groups in Toro Village through the ability of farmer groups in managing information, decision making, farm management, production marketing and application of technology has a significant effect on increasing rice farming productivity in Bone Regency. The role of farmer groups as a learning platform, a vehicle for cooperation and production units has no significant effect on increasing the productivity of lowland rice farming in Bone Regency.

PERAN FASILITATOR DALAM PEMBERDAYAAN KELOMPOK TANI PESERTA PROGRAM READSI DI DESA TRIMULYA KECAMATAN ONEMBUTE KABUPATEN KOLAKA TIMUR

The objective of this investigation is to examine the facilitator's function in enhancing the participation of farmer groups in the READSI program and to establish the correlation between the facilitator's role and the empowerment of farmer groups involved in the READSI program. The study was conducted in March 2022. The population of the investigation consisted of all members of the farmer group involved in the READSI program. The sample size was determined using the Proportional Random Sampling technique, and it included 45 individuals. The analysis of the data was performed using descriptive statistics and Spearman Rank Correlation analysis. The findings indicated that the facilitator's role in Trimulya Village, Onembute District, Konawe Regency, was of excellent quality. The farmer groups' empowerment was demonstrated by their capacity to handle the received information, make decisions concerning their farming, manage farming activities, market their farming products, and apply agricultural innovation technologies. There is a significant correlation between the facilitator's role and the empowerment of farmer groups.

The purpose of this activity is to determine the success of the forest farmer group empowerment program in managing lancet bee cattle into an education-based creative industry. The method of implementing this activity is carried out through stages, including: identifying problems, describing the target community, making plans for forms of intervention and carrying out work programs. In this activity, it is not possible to assess the success of the program, considering that the activities carried out are still limited to socializing the work program to the target group, mapping the area, making green houses for nurseries, making artificial vegetation and conducting educational trials of lancet bee tourism

Empowerment of Farmer Groups in Rambahan Village in Processing Palm Oil Mill Waste into Organic Fertilizers for Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri) Plantation

Porang (Amorphophallus muelleri), also known as Iles-Iles or Suweg. In its cultivation, porang has a shade tolerance of 60 percent. But without using shade, it can still be cultivated. Farmers in Jambi usually planted porang among old rubber plants without fertilizing. This causes porang tuber production to be at a minimum below its potential. Porang is only produced without treatment, reducing the size of the tubers, and the konjac glucomannan content in tubers is low. Porang tubers are usually made into chips, and chips will crumble easily if the konjac glucomannan is low. Based on this, counseling and mentoring activities will focus on making fertilizer from the waste from palm oil mills. Palm oil mill waste that is most easily transported and easily decomposed is the cake decanter (DC). In the village of Rambahan, it is known as a solid decanter. The village community had heard but did not know that this waste with specific treatments could be used as organic fertilizer. That this waste, with particular treatments, can be used as organic fertilizer. The treatment is by fermentation with local microorganisms (LOM) from cow urine mixed with MOL from snails (RINMAS). Keongmas are pests and are widely found in farmers' fields. Beef and conch urine are used as LOM. After they are made, the two LOMs are mixed with a ratio of 1: 1 and used as a decomposer to ferment the decanter cake plus for two months. After two months, it can be used as organic fertilizer for porang plants. LOM cow urine and LOM snail (RINMAS) are also used as foliar fertilizers. The technology application activities will be carried out in Rambahan Village at the Mekar Kembali KT and KWT Pokja Alamanda. The target for KT Mekar Kembali and KWT Pokja Alamanda is to increase the area of porang plants, which previously were only intercrops, now every KT, there is an increase in the area of porang plants every KT of 0.5 hectares. Once, farmers and KWT did not know how to make solid and liquid fertilizers. After counseling and DEMPLOT, they could make their fertilizers. Every two months, the farmers produce 100 kg of solid fertilizer decanter cake, urine MOL, and Keongmas MOL as 100 liters of liquid fertilizer per month.

Efforts to Encourage Development of Sustainable Modern Agriculture Through Empowerment of Farmer Group

Modern agriculture activities by intensively cultivating land and the massive use of fertilizer and pesticide have been shown to significantly increase agricultural productivity. However, modern agricultural systems have a serious impact on environmental damage, so it is necessary to develop modern agricultural systems that are environmentally sound and sustainable. This agricultural system can be successful if it is supported by all stakeholders, especially the Farmer Groups as a forum for farmers in their agricultural activities. The powerlessness of farmer groups in managing their members and their farms can be the cause of the failure of sustainable development of modern agriculture. This study aims to describe and analyze efforts to encourage the development of a modern sustainable agricultural system through the empowerment of farmer groups. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach based on literature studies from several journals and the results of previous research. The study results indicate that empowerment of farmer groups is the right way to increase the participation of farmer communities in the development of sustainable modern agriculture. The empowerment process carried out with the awareness, capacity and empowerment of farmer groups can increase awareness, ability, expertise and strength to take advantage of their potential. In the empowerment activities, it is necessary to empower actors from local government, community leaders and farmer group leaders who can act as motors and motivators. In addition, it is necessary to anticipate the inhibiting factors and the supporting factors that can encourage farmer group empowerment activities.

Empowering farmer group to increase rice productivity for promoting food security: a case study of the implementation of jarwo super technology in Lebak District, Banten, Indonesia

Rice is the number one staple food crop, being eaten by almost all the population in Indonesia. Jajar Legowo Super (Jarwo Super) technology as an approach to improve rice productivity consists of various components of technologies. This study attempts to demonstrate the importance of farmer group empowerment and the implementation of Jarwo Super technology as a strategy to improve rice productivity. A two-year study from 2019 – 2020 was conducted in Cibadak Sub-district, Lebak District, Banten, Indonesia. We combined specific components of rice technology in Jarwo Super, and implemented it in the farmers’ fields. Scheduled assistance through farmer field school (FFS) and field inspections were regularly conducted. The individual farmers’ performance in the implementation of technology and their participation in the FFS were evaluated. Our study showed that the implementation of Jarwo Super significantly improved rice productivity by 34.7% and 35.5% in 2019 and 2020, respectively, as compared to that of regional productivity. The yield performances were highly correlated with both the components of technology as well as farmers’ participation in FFS. We concluded that intensive and continued assisting through extension activities is a key point in delivering technologies to improve rice productivity for better food security.

Empowerment of farmer groups in rice seed business in Purbalingga Regency, Central Java

These activities aims to increase the capacity of farmer groups and expand job opportunities. An empowerment assessment was carried out on the Sri Rejeki farmer group located in Gembong Village, Bojongsari District, Purbalingga Regency, in August 2021-February 2022. The approach method used is participatory mentoring, by facilitating the needs of farmer groups in the rice seed business, which includes: obtaining seed business recommendations, working capital and technological innovation. The data collected includes farmer group resources, assistance in the production process, and inputs and outputs of rice seed production. Data was collected through interviews with the head of the farmer group, the head of PB Sri Rejeki, field assistants and direct observation in the field. The data obtained were analysed descriptively. The results of the study show that increasing the group's capacity in seed farming, among others, has a drying floor, warehouse and thresher. Working capital facilitation in labour, fertilizers, medicines, harvested plastic sacks, and 5 kg plastic seed packaging can provide motivation and initial capital for a rice seed business. The seed technology innovation applied resulted in 5,500 kg of ES class seeds. Empowerment of farmer groups needs to be done through assistance and provision of initial capital.

YY SOCIALIZATION AND APPLICATION OF RHIZOBACTERIA IN GINGER CULTIVATION IN THE JORONG BELUBUS INNOVATION FARMING GROUP, NAGARI SUNGAI TALANG, GUGUAK DISTRICT, LIMAPULUH KOTA REGENCY

Nagari Sungai Talang is one of the villages in Payakumbuh District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency which seeks to cultivate ginger plants. The type of ginger commonly developed by this Innovation farmer group is elephant ginger. This ginger has a rhizome that is larger and fatter, the rhizome segment is more bulging than other varieties of ginger. This type of ginger can be consumed both when you are young and old, both as fresh ginger and processed ginger. One of the obstacles that hinder our farmers from developing organic ginger here is the low production because the supply of nutrients is also low and the attack of pests and diseases is quite high. Therefore, it is necessary to find a treatment that can overcome this problem to increase the production of organic ginger. One of the microorganisms that is widely reported to act as biological agents is from the Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) group or plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. Rhizobacteria have the ability to aggressively colonize the rhizosphere and some types of rhizobacteria are capable of dual roles as biofertilizers and bioprotectants in plants. The purpose of this farmer group empowerment activity is to provide knowledge about the benefits of Rhizobacterial biological agents in triggering the growth and yield of ginger plants in the field as well as plant-disturbing organisms that often attack ginger plants during cultivation, as well as effective control methods through outreach activities and direct counseling in the field. The method used is the method of socialization, counseling and direct discussion with farmer groups. The results obtained from this empowerment activity are that the farmer groups understand the benefits of Rhizobacteria biological agents as a trigger for growth and production of ginger plants, know various plant pest organisms (OPT) and know how to properly control them.

PEMBERDAYAAN KELOMPOK TANI SAWAH PAYO KABUPATEN TANAH DATAR MELALUI TEKNIK PEMANGKASAN TANAMAN KAKAO

The problem that is often faced by the Payo Rice Field Farmers group in producing cocoa beans is the cocoa tree that has aged and damaged due to disease pests. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to intensify efforts, for example by fertilizing, maintaining soil and plants as well as pruning and rehabilitation by replanting new cocoa trees. The purpose of this farmer group empowerment activity is to provide knowledge about the techniques and the process of pruning cocoa cultivation plants that are good and right in accordance with the cultivation procedures that are supposed to be able to increase the productivity results of these plants. The method used in this activity is the method of direct and indirect approach. The direct approach method is by conducting interviews with the Gunung Rajo community and by conducting direct socialization and demonstration in the field. The indirect method used is observation. Observation is an observation made to find out the habit. The results obtained from this empowerment activity are the Payo Rice Field farmer groups can carry out routine pruning activities on the cocoa plants they cultivate and can maintain their cocoa plants so that they can increase their yield.

STRATEGI PENGUATAN KELOMPOK TANI NGUDI RAHARJO III DI DESA LEMBERANG, KECAMATAN SOKARAJA, KABUPATEN BANYUMAS

In this research, the authors will propose several appropriate strategies for strengthening the Ngudi Raharjo III Farmer Group in Lemberang Village, Sokaraja District, Banyumas Regency, Central Java. The proposed strategy will be compiled based on IFE and EFE analysis, SWOT, and QSPM analysis to get the strongest strategy and can be a top priority to be implemented in strengthening the empowerment of farmer groups. This research is expected to provide the right solution to empower and maximize the potential of farmer groups so that the benefits can be felt for all group members. After identifying external and internal factors, the next strategy analysis is a SWOT strategy analysis. As the resulting strategy from the SWOT analysis for strengthening the Ngudi Raharjo III Farmer Group, a QSPM produced a priority strategy from the existing strategy. Assistance by agricultural experts from Jenderal Soedirman University was the main strategy and a priority to be carried out with the highest Sum Total Attractiveness Scores (STAS) among other strategies on QSPM Analysis, amounting to 6.91.

Farmer group empowerment in developing joint venture (Study case at Karya Jasa 3 Group in Kendal)

This study aims to obtain an effective strategy for group empowerment in increasing joint efforts. The Karya Jasa 3 group in Kaliyoso-Kendal was the object of the present study. Data were collected from March to June 2020. The data taken included assets owned by farmer groups, group businesses, and group cash financial data. Data were collected through interviews with farmer group leaders and direct observation in the field. The data obtained were analyzed in an explanative manner. The results show that the group empowerment carried out was to build a joint business, in the form of an economic business unit which included: 1) Seed business; 2) Agricultural machine tool service unit; 3) Marketing of agricultural product; 4) Savings and loan business; and 5) Agricultural production supply store. The joint venture that has been built has been able to provide benefits for group members. Business profit was divided as follows: 70% for the group and 30% for members. Benefits for members are used to increase togetherness in the form of social activities. It was found that the strategic approach of empowering farmer groups in joint ventures should not only focus on productive business but also on social activities. Therefore, it was a portion of business profit used for recreation, religious events, or traditional occasions.

Women farmer group empowerment through a community service in Gunungpati Sub-District, Semarang, Indonesia

The Women Farmer Group in Semarang was established in 2013, and it has been developing small businesses in the processing of local fresh milk into various snack products. However, the selling value has not reached the optimum results since it faces a problem in packaging quality. Therefore, as one of the goals of Tridarma of Indonesian higher education which have directed the university to care about problems in society, an accompaniment to the business was carried out for improving the quality of product packaging. There were three activities conducted, i.e.a, training; re-designing; and monitoring. The results of the community service showed that the program was highly effective to enhance the understanding of Women Farmer Group members on the importance of product packaging as a strategy of marketing proved by the results of the average posttest score at 80.55. Product testing to consumers shows that the new packaging could increase consumer buying interest in comparison to the old one. Also, with the new packaging, the non-preservative snacks could have a longer storability compared to the old packaging. In this community service activity, an empowerment model can be obtained and can be further developed.
