An Analysis Of Students Difficulties In Writing Recount Text On The Eleventh Grade At SMA Negeri 21 Medan

This thesis is about an analysis of students difficulties on writing recount text in the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 21 Medan. The objectives of research are to analyze the student's difficulties on writing recount text in the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 21 Medan And to identify the factors causing students difficulties in writing recount text. This research was conducting by applying Descriptive Qualitative research. The Researcher took 15 students of eleventh in getting the data. The instrument of the collecting data was the writing test and interview. The technique of collecting data was the researcher explained what the recount text, generic structure, language features and giving the example of recount text. The researcher asked the eleventh grade students wrote a recount text that chooses by themselves in 60 minutes and the researcher collected the paper, after that the researcher do the interview directly to all student. the result of the analysis of students difficulties showed that majority of the students at eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 21 Medan still low in writing recount text. it could be seen from the analysis the test from content of the results of the percentage is 15%, organization of the result on the percentage is 19%, language use of the percentage in the result is 26%, vocabulary of the percentage in the result is 24% and mechanic of the percentage in the result is 16%. Based on the result of analysis of student difficulties showed that majority of the students factors are difficulties of content such as the lack of experience to developing ideas. Difficulties of organization, students lack of structure to organize ideas and story elements in a clear and logical manner. Difficulties of vocabulary, the lack of word in English and limitation of vocabulary to translate the meanings of certain words. Difficulties of language use, lack of grammar such as use of sentence structure, the use of nouns, verbs, and aspects of grammar. And the last Difficulties of Mechanic, lack of knowledge about punctuation marks such as commas periods and each other formats. The analysis shows that students still make mistakes in all five aspects of the 15 students who were used as participants, none of them succeeded in writing recount correctly. so it can be concluded that students are still difficult in writing recount text.

Negative and Extrapositive Attitudes Towards Cold-Blooded Tetrapods Among Students of the Secondary Education Course: Ethical and Normative Aspects

The present study represents an empirical research, the purpose of which was to investigate the attitudes towards the species of the Suborder Snakes (Serpentes) and of the Order Turtles (Testudines) among adolescents. We aimed to determining the risks regarding the conservation of herpetophauna. Questionnaires were constructed, adequate to the learning objectives of the subject "Biology and health education" in the respective classes. Students from the seventh, ninth and eleventh grades in two of the schools in the city of Shumen (NE Bulgaria) were surveyed. The total number of respondents was 426, of which 198 were for attitudes towards snakes and 228 were for attitudes towards turtles. The results of the present study showed the problems in the field of protecting of the biological diversity of snakes and turtles in Bulgaria. The attitude toward snakes was clarly negative and that to tortoises was extra positive. A very low level of environmental culture was detected. The vast majority of the recipients insisted on in depth revision of the education plans in Biology. Unfortunately, the analysis of the textbooks content used for the education of the recipients, indicated on insufficient and improper selection of information concerning the reptiles. Since once established, attitudes are difficult to change, the main target group of education efforts must be concentrated on the secondary course students.

The effect of kahoot application towards students’ reading comprehension at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Cijaku Lebak Banten in Academic Year 2023/2024

This research paper aims to investigate the effect of kahoot Application towards students’ Reading Comprehension at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Cijaku Lebak Banten in Academic Year 2023/2024. The method used in this research was quantitative method. The design of this research was quasi-experimental design and cluster random sampling: the researcher has chosen two classes are a control class and an experimental class. The technique in choosing the sample is cluster random sampling; the researcher used XI IPS 1 (31 students) as class control and XI IPA 2 (36 students) as class experimental. The experimental group was taught recount text in Reading comprehension used kahoot application, whereas the control group was taught used wordwall. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Independent sample t-test by SPSS 25.0 statistical computation to analyze the hypotheses test. The researcher has found the result t-count (1.727) and Significant two-tailed = 0.044 < α 0.05. From these data could be interpreted that there is a significant difference between the two groups in obtaining scores, because the result is a significance value of less than 0.05, which means Ha is accepted. According to the criteria of the test, it could be concluded that there was progress in the effect of kahoot Application towards students’ Reading Comprehension at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Cijaku Lebak Banten.

Is Information About Musculoskeletal Malignancies From Large Language Models or Web Resources at a Suitable Reading Level for Patients?

Patients and caregivers may experience immense distress when receiving the diagnosis of a primary musculoskeletal malignancy and subsequently turn to internet resources for more information. It is not clear whether these resources, including Google and ChatGPT, offer patients information that is readable, a measure of how easy text is to understand. Since many patients turn to Google and artificial intelligence resources for healthcare information, we thought it was important to ascertain whether the information they find is readable and easy to understand. The objective of this study was to compare readability of Google search results and ChatGPT answers to frequently asked questions and assess whether these sources meet NIH recommendations for readability. (1) What is the readability of ChatGPT-3.5 as a source of patient information for the three most common primary bone malignancies compared with top online resources from Google search? (2) Do ChatGPT-3.5 responses and online resources meet NIH readability guidelines for patient education materials? This was a cross-sectional analysis of the 12 most common online questions about osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, and Ewing sarcoma. To be consistent with other studies of similar design that utilized national society frequently asked questions lists, questions were selected from the American Cancer Society and categorized based on content, including diagnosis, treatment, and recovery and prognosis. Google was queried using all 36 questions, and top responses were recorded. Author types, such as hospital systems, national health organizations, or independent researchers, were recorded. ChatGPT-3.5 was provided each question in independent queries without further prompting. Responses were assessed with validated reading indices to determine readability by grade level. An independent t-test was performed with significance set at p < 0.05. Google (n = 36) and ChatGPT-3.5 (n = 36) answers were recorded, 12 for each of the three cancer types. Reading grade levels based on mean readability scores were 11.0 ± 2.9 and 16.1 ± 3.6, respectively. This corresponds to the eleventh grade reading level for Google and a fourth-year undergraduate student level for ChatGPT-3.5. Google answers were more readable across all individual indices, without differences in word count. No difference in readability was present across author type, question category, or cancer type. Of 72 total responses across both search modalities, none met NIH readability criteria at the sixth-grade level. Google material was presented at a high school reading level, whereas ChatGPT-3.5 was at an undergraduate reading level. The readability of both resources was inadequate based on NIH recommendations. Improving readability is crucial for better patient understanding during cancer treatment. Physicians should assess patients' needs, offer them tailored materials, and guide them to reliable resources to prevent reliance on online information that is hard to understand. THE EFFECTS OF USING PODCASTS IN THE TEACHING OF LISTENING ON STUDENTS’ LISTENING COMPREHENSION ACHIEVEMENT

The use of podcast in the world of education has been going on for a while, but some experts still have different opinions about the benefits of it for the education itself. The aim of this research was to investigate whether or not students who were taught listening by using podcasts get higher score on their listening comprehension test compare to other students who were taught listening by using non-podcasts materials. This study was a quasi-experimental post-test only design which employed eleventh graders majoring mathematics and natural sciences 1 as the control group and eleventh graders of mathematics and natural sciences 2 as the experimental group. The research itself lasted for 5 meetings, 4 meetings were used as teaching and learning process and 1 meeting for post-test. The data of this study were collected by using multiple choice listening comprehension test. The data that were obtained were then analyzed by using independent sample t-test and calculated through the use of SPSS 16 with 5% (0.05) significant level. Based on the result of the data analysis, there is no significant effect on using podcasts in the teaching of listening on students’ listening comprehension achievement. In summary, it can be concluded that students who were taught listening by using podcasts do not get better score on their listening comprehension test than those who were taught listening by using non-podcasts materials.

THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELF-CONFIDENCE, MOTIVATION, AND STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT IN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

This study aims to investigate the relationship between self-confidence, motivation and speaking achievement. The present study used correlational research approach which examine whether two or more variables have correlation or not. There were 39 respondents that were taken 25 % from five classes in the eleventh graders at one of secondary school in Banyuwangi. The instruments used were self-confidence and motivation questionnaire and students’ speaking achievement test. Pearson product moment and scatter plot in SPSS were used to analyze the data so that there was a result whether there is correlation or not. The finding revealed that there is no significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking achievement. Not only the self-confidence which is there was no correlation but also motivation and speaking achievement too.

Pengembangan Media Pembelajaran Berbasis Video Canva pada Materi Ajar Aborsi Mata Pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Katolik

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness and feasibility of Canva application-based video media on Chatolic Religious Education material “abortion”. The method used in this study is developmental studies. The development of this Canva application-based video product uses the ADDIE model type, which consists of five steps: analyze, design , development, implementation, and evaluation. The target group for product testing is high school students. This product was validated by 1 design expert, 1 media expert, 1 material expert, 5 students for small group trials and 30 students big group trials. result of this research is the development of Canva-based video learning media in Chatolic Religious Education class in material “abortion” in eleventh grade learning obtained feasible and effective results as a developed learning media.

Representasi Peran Wanita pada Buku Teks Pembelajaran Sejarah Indonesia Kelas XI SMA

This abstract describes the representation of the role of women in the historical learning textbooks of the eleventh grade edition of Erlangga, Kemendikbud, and Quadra. The study aims to enable students to understand and learn about the role of women heroes who have fought for their people in textbooks. As well as improving gender equality and tolerance of diversity within the pupils. The research uses qualitative methods with content analysis approaches and verifies the validity of data through triangulation of sources and methods. Data obtained from interviews, document studies, learning observations, and analysis of class XI history textbooks issued by Erlangga, Kemendikbud, and Quadra. The textbooks Erlangga, Kemendikbud, and Quadra do not fully cover the role of female heroes, thus raising the stereotype that only men play an important role in the fight against the invaders. This lack of representation ignores the contribution of women to history and strengthens gender bias among pupils.

The Impact of Using Gadget in Increasing Students' Reading Comprehension in Eleventh Grade at SMA Negeri 4 Makassar

Nowadays, there are many schools, especially high schools, which allow their students bring gadget to school. Therefore, it is crusial for students to know how to use gadget as possible as they can as a helping tool especially to increase their academic skills including their reading comprehension in English lesson. The purpose of this study was to find out the use of gadget in increasing students’ reading comprehension in eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 4 Makassar in academic year 2023/2024. The sample of this study were 20 students from class XI-8. The method that was used in this study was a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design that use three steps, namely pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The findings revealed that there is an increase of students’ score in pre-test to post-test. The mean of students’ score in pre-test was 41,960 and post-test was 68,295. The t-tes was used SPSS 18 and the result is 0,000 (&lt;0,50) which means that there is a significant difference between students’ score in pre-test to post-test. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of gadget can increase students’ reading comprehension in eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 4 Makassar.

The Application of Project-Based Learning to Enhance Student’s Proficiency in Producing Written Reports

This study was quantitative. The purpose of this project was to demonstrate how PjBL could help students overcome obstacles and improve their report-writing abilities for the XI grade of SMAN 2 Rangkasbitung. Twenty-five learners were the study’s subject. The research study used tests and observation procedures as its instruments. The research was done in three following steps: pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Based on the result of the post-test, students writing report text ability showed an improvement. It was proven by the pre-test mean; the result of the mean was 67.00 while the student’s post-test mean was 78.00. To conclude, the student’s writing ability of the eleventh grade SMA N 2 Rangkasbitung presents a contrast difference before and after the treatment. Overall. It’s because most of the students are not familiar enough with the general structure of report text, hence they are unable to write a good report text. To recommend, the teacher can use PjBL as one of another approaches.

AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN WRITING REPORT TEXT AT ELEVENTH GRADE SMAS TAMANSISWA SINGOSARI MEDAN

&lt;p&gt;This study, titled &lt;em&gt;“An Analysis of Students’ Grammatical Errors in Writing Report Text at Eleventh Grade SMAS Tamansiswa Singosari Medan”.&lt;/em&gt; The study aimed to find out what types of grammatical errors in the students' report text writing and the causes of the errors. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on 11th-grade students from the IPS2 class at SMAS Tamansiswa Singosari Medan. Data collection was conducted through documentation and interviews. The analysis followed the steps outlined by Gass and Selinker, which included collecting the data, identifying students’ errors, classifying errors, and analyzing cause of error. The findings revealed four types of errors in the students' report texts: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering, totaling 44 errors. Specifically, there were 10 omission errors (22.72%), 13 addition errors (29.54%), 12 misformation errors (27.27%), and 9 misordering errors (20.45%). The most frequent error type was addition, with the total 13 or 29.54% errors. The causes of these errors were identified as carelessness, influence from the first language, and issues with translation.&lt;/p&gt;

The effectiveness of the combination of podcast and two stay two stray in teaching listening

This study aims to find out the effectiveness of the combination of Podcast and Two Stay Two Stray in teaching listening. The true experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The research population consisted of eleventh grade students from SMAN 1 Tahunan. The research sample consisted of classes XI-6 and XI-11, where XI-6 was assigned as the control group whereas XI-11 as the experimental group. It was chosen using a straightforward random sampling method. The instrument used by researchers to assess students' listening skills was providing 25 multiple-choice listening questions. The results demonstrated that the mean scores for both groups before and after the exam differed significantly. Furthermore, the analysis results utilizing the independent sample t-test showed that the t-test score (14.72&gt;1.695) was higher than the t-table score. It indicates that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Referring of the study’s findings, it can be concluded that the combination of Podcast and Two Stay Two Stray can improve students’ listening skill.

From Silence to Testimonio: Latina Adolescents’ Agency in Writing

This qualitative classroom-based study investigated the writing practices, choices, and reflections of Latinx high school students during an instructional unit on writing testimonio. The study was grounded in a sociocultural theory of writing and draws from LatCrit and testimonio research to understand how writing about self as testimonio shapes the writing practices Latinx, urban mujeres. The study took place in an eleventh grade class at an urban charter school in a major urban center in the southwest. Data collection included writing samples, interviews, participant observer memos, and field notes. Analysis was conducted through a testimonio and narrative analysis lens and afforded researchers and participants the opportunity to co-construct the knowledge gained from the data corpus. Findings focused on the ways participants interacted with the study unit, how they found agency as writers, took pride in their writing, and ownership of the narratives of their communities.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING GIST STRATEGY TOWARD STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION

In reading activities, one of the abilities that must be mastered by students is reading comprehension in English. This research is motivated by the students' weak understanding of a reading text and the learning process still uses strategies that are less innovative and tend to be boring. Therefore, the researcher used the GIST (Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text) strategy to help improve students' reading comprehension through explanation text media. The aim of this study was to determine whether there was an improvement in students' reading comprehension after using the GIST strategy. The population of this study is eleventh grade students at Senior High School in Gresik while the sample from MAN 2 in Gresik which involved 36 students in class XI-2. This study used quantitative method with one group pretest-posttest design. Data collection used pre-test and post-test research instruments, then the data were analyzed using Paired T-test. The results of the study showed that the use of GIST strategy in the explanation text effectively helped students in understanding the reading well, it can be seen from the results of the mean pretest and posttest scores which increased significantly.

Analysis of Errors in Students' Writing of Analytical Exposition Text at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 2 Kotabumi Academic Year 2023/2024

Writing is a crucial aspect of English language abilities as a foreign language. Writing is an activity that involves creating thoughts and then deciding how to communicate them and created a set of statements and paragraphs that others could read and understand. The aim of this research is to describe the types of errors in writing text and to describe the dominant errors in writing analytical exposition text in the XI Science 1 of SMA Negeri 2 Kotabumi. The researcher found some of the students still got experienced problems of writing texts. The main cause is a lack of understanding of grammar and limited English vocabulary among students. This research used a qualitative research method because the researcher did not use experiments or treatments in research. The subjects for this research is students of XI science 1 of SMA Negeri 2 Kotabumi and the subjects of the research were 29 students. The researcher analyzed using four types of errors: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. Based on the results obtained, there were 159 errors, which consist of omission is 62, addition is 55, misformation is 31, and misordering is 11 for the most dominant error was omission.

Fostering Students’ Listening Skills Through Youtube Videos Integrated with Edpuzzle Online Platform

The aim of this study is to determine the goodness of using YouTube videos integrated with the EdPuzzle online platform on students' listening skills and students' perceptions on the use of the EdPuzzle online platform. The researcher applies a mixed-methods design, with the type of an embedded design. Regarding the quantitative paradigm, quasi-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test was employed. The subject of the research consisted of thirteen students sitting in the eleventh grade who were taken using a random sampling technique. The instruments to collect the data were tests and questionnaires. Data were collected by giving a pre-test followed by giving one treatment to thirteen vocational students after that the students were given a post-test and a questionnaire. The post-test which has a higher score than the pre-test proves the effectiveness of YouTube videos integrated with EdPuzzle as a medium to increase students’ listening skills. It is obvious that the use of YouTube videos integrated with EdPuzzle in teaching listening has a significant and effective impact on increasing students' listening skills. The result showed that the hypothesis is accepted in that there is the significant difference found in students' listening skills prior to and after being taught through YouTube videos that are integrated with the EdPuzzle online platform. In conclusion, the result of data analysis indicated quite clearly that the use of YouTube videos integrated with the EdPuzzle online platform is effective in increasing students' listening skills.

Analysis of Presupposition in English Teaching Materials at SMAN 4 Palu

This study aims to analyze the types of presuppositions in English teaching materials at SMAN 4 Palu. The method used in this research is discourse analysis of the English textbooks used in the eleventh grade, focusing on identifying examples of existential, factual, and structural presuppositions. Data were collected through critical discourse analysis techniques and interviews. The results of the analysis show that the teaching material at SMAN 4 Palu contains various types of presuppositions that can influence students' understanding. Existential presuppositions, such as "The President of the United States," assume knowledge about a particular entity, whereas factual presuppositions, such as "John stopped smoking," assume the truth of information that students may not know. Structural presuppositions, for example, the use of the word "again" in "He came back again," involve hidden assumptions that require contextual background for proper understanding. Findings show that teaching materials often contain presuppositions that are not relevant to students' local contexts, such as the use of examples from Western culture that students may be unfamiliar with. Therefore, adapting teaching materials to local contexts is very necessary. This research recommends the involvement of Palu regional teachers and education experts in curriculum development and the adaptation of teaching materials to make them more relevant to students' daily lives. By integrating local culture into teaching, students' understanding of texts can increase significantly, enhancing learning effectiveness and supporting the achievement of optimal learning outcomes.

English language skills and their influence on the academic performance of high school students in the public schools of Cereté – Córdoba

This paper highlights the crucial role of English in today's global communication and the need to integrate information and communication technologies (ICT) in language teaching. The research was carried out in Cereté, Córdoba, with a population of 560 students and a sample of 229 tenth and eleventh grade students from official schools. The survey technique was used to evaluate language skills and a checklist was used to measure academic performance. The objective was to analyze how the development of linguistic skills in English impacts academic performance and to propose improvements in the teaching-learning processes. The hypothesis stated was that there is a significant relationship between the development of English language skills and the academic performance of academic average students. The results of internal and external tests were examined, as well as the educational context in Latin America, highlighting the importance of modernizing curricula and adopting new methodologies. After applying the data collection instruments and analyzing the results, the hypothesis was corroborated, finding a significant positive correlation between all the linguistic skills evaluated. The paper discusses the contextualization of the problem, theoretical and methodological bases, data analysis and conclusions. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the improvement of educational processes in secondary schools in Colombia

Teaching Speaking Through Communicative Games: Indonesian English Teacher Best Practice

The researcher found fears of students making mistake are among the challenges the researcher has identified while working with students' English language skills. The students of SMK Wikrama 1 are generally energetic and like doing fun activities. Because of that, the researcher decided to use communicative games as a means of enhancing students' oral communication skills in the eleventh grade at Smk Wikrama 1 in Banjarmasin. Experimental designs such as one-group pre-test-post-test or pre-experimental designs will be employed in this study. A total of fourteen students from SMK Wikrama 1, who were in the eleventh grade, participated in this study. The data was derived from the students' scores on both the pretest and posttest. The researcher will utilize SPPS and the dependent T-test formula to assess the data. The results of the t-test for one-sample paired indicate that students' speaking skills were lower before and after the use of communicative games, with the former having a mean score of 62.86% and the latter of 71.07%. Treatment improved students' speaking skills compared to pre-treatment scores. The results show that eleventh graders at SMK Wikrama 1 Banjarmasin are improving their speaking abilities via the use of communicative games. Keywords: Communicative games; Speaking skill
