Study of Sublimation in Tragic Drama

Tragedy, as an important category of drama, has been a hot topic in literature and theater since ancient times. Taking the tragedy theories of Aristotle, Hegel, Schopenhauer, Sigmund Freud and other Western scholars as a guide and Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera as the main examples, this paper studies the aesthetic sublimation of tragedy. It is found that the elements of music, story, dramatic poetry, dance and performance integrated in a tragic musical can form the grandeur and magnificence of tragedy. The audience gain a sense of beauty and pain, and pleasure and sublimity from the tragic heroes. Tragedy prompts the awakening of human consciousness and the liberation of individuality, calling for social morality, civilization and progress.

An Analysis Of Students Difficulties In Writing Recount Text On The Eleventh Grade At SMA Negeri 21 Medan

This thesis is about an analysis of students difficulties on writing recount text in the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 21 Medan. The objectives of research are to analyze the student's difficulties on writing recount text in the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 21 Medan And to identify the factors causing students difficulties in writing recount text. This research was conducting by applying Descriptive Qualitative research. The Researcher took 15 students of eleventh in getting the data. The instrument of the collecting data was the writing test and interview. The technique of collecting data was the researcher explained what the recount text, generic structure, language features and giving the example of recount text. The researcher asked the eleventh grade students wrote a recount text that chooses by themselves in 60 minutes and the researcher collected the paper, after that the researcher do the interview directly to all student. the result of the analysis of students difficulties showed that majority of the students at eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 21 Medan still low in writing recount text. it could be seen from the analysis the test from content of the results of the percentage is 15%, organization of the result on the percentage is 19%, language use of the percentage in the result is 26%, vocabulary of the percentage in the result is 24% and mechanic of the percentage in the result is 16%. Based on the result of analysis of student difficulties showed that majority of the students factors are difficulties of content such as the lack of experience to developing ideas. Difficulties of organization, students lack of structure to organize ideas and story elements in a clear and logical manner. Difficulties of vocabulary, the lack of word in English and limitation of vocabulary to translate the meanings of certain words. Difficulties of language use, lack of grammar such as use of sentence structure, the use of nouns, verbs, and aspects of grammar. And the last Difficulties of Mechanic, lack of knowledge about punctuation marks such as commas periods and each other formats. The analysis shows that students still make mistakes in all five aspects of the 15 students who were used as participants, none of them succeeded in writing recount correctly. so it can be concluded that students are still difficult in writing recount text.

An experimental study on receiving Audio Descriptions in Iran

Despite the growing body of research on audience satisfaction, Audio Description (AD) in Iran is still in its early stages of scientific development. Given the non-professional nature of AD production for Persian films in Iran, this research aimed to determine whether the current AD services meet users' needs and satisfaction. This study is based on a questionnaire survey of 30 blind and partially sighted individuals. The results indicate that AD services in Iran are limited to movies, revealing a significant gap between supply and demand. AD in Iran faces several challenges, including low quality, a lack of specialists, and insufficient theoretical research. From the audience's perspective, common issues include inappropriate timing, unsuitable vocabulary, subjective judgments, premature disclosure of story elements, neglect of actors' characteristics, and a disregard for standard guidelines in favour of self-made norms in descriptions. However, the existing Persian AD does help the audience understand the film's storyline. Our experimental research shows that participants prefer objective AD with detailed descriptions.

Upaya Meningkatkan Kemampuan Analisis Cerpen Peserta Didik Kelas XI-B2 SMAN 9 Surabaya dengan Media Pembelajaran Mind Map

This study aims to describe the application of mind map learning media in improving the short story analysis ability of students of class XI-B2 SMAN 9 Surabaya. This type of research uses Classroom Action Research which consists of two cycles. This Classroom Action Research was carried out in class XI-B2 SMAN 9 Surabaya in the first semester of 2024, with research subjects consisting of 36 students. Data collection techniques used, namely through direct observation and tests. The results showed that the use of Mind Map was quite effective as an effort to improve students' short story analysis skills. This can be seen from the increase in the average score of students from cycle I (76.8) to cycle II (96). This study concludes that Mind Map not only improves analytical skills, but also learners' engagement and creativity in learning. In addition, Mind Map helps learners visualize the relationship between short story elements, so that the analysis process becomes easier to understand.

Story Recall in Peer Conflict Resolution Discourse Task to Identify Older Adults Testing Within Range of Cognitive Impairment.

The current study used behavioral measures of discourse complexity and story recall accuracy in an expository discourse task to distinguish older adults testing within range of cognitive impairment according to a standardized cognitive screening tool in a sample of self-reported healthy older adults. Seventy-three older adults who self-identified as healthy completed an expository discourse task and neuropsychological screener. Discourse data were used to classify participants testing within range of cognitive impairment using multiple machine learning algorithms and stability analysis for identifying reliably predictive features in an effort to maximize prediction accuracy. We hypothesized that a higher rate of pronoun use and lower scores on story recall would best classify older adults testing within range of cognitive impairment. The highest classification accuracy exploited a single variable in a remarkably intuitive way: using 66% story recall as a cutoff for cognitive impairment. Forcing this decision tree model to use more features or increasing its complexity did not improve accuracy. Permutation testing confirmed that the 77% accuracy and 0.18 Brier skill score achieved by the model were statistically significant (p < .00001). These results suggest that expository discourse tasks that place demands on executive functions, such as working memory, can be used to identify aging adults who test within range of cognitive impairment. Accurate representation of story elements in working memory is critical for coherent discourse. Our simple yet highly accurate predictive model of expository discourse provides a promising assessment for easy identification of cognitive impairment in older adults. https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.26543824.

From the President: Transitions

In medical writing, transitions are pivotal. They improve readability and, in many cases, clarify how story elements are related. They are connectors. I have been pontificating on the importance of transitions as I edit the current proposal on my desk. In looking for ways to draw the reviewer in, I use transitions to improve the flow of the document. I try out different transitions to see which ones will best show the reader how the research approach will answer the hypothesis and accomplish the objectives. So often, the original draft lacks transitions, and in finding those elements, I often find the heart of the grant.

Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Team Games Tournament untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Pembelajaran Menganalisis Unsur Intrinsik Cerita Pendek Siswa Kelas XI-D3 SMA Negeri 9 Surabaya

This study aims to improve students' learning outcomes in analyzing the intrinsic elements of short stories through the application of Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model in class XI-D3 SMAN 9 Surabaya. This research was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle including four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through classroom observation, field notes, learning outcome tests, and analysis of intrinsic elements of short stories by students. The results showed that the application of the TGT learning model was effective in improving students' learning outcomes in analyzing the intrinsic elements of short stories. This improvement can be seen from the increase in students' test scores from cycle 1 to cycle 2. This study suggests that the TGT learning model can be used as an effective alternative learning strategy to improve students' learning outcomes in analyzing the intrinsic elements of short stories. In addition, this study also shows that short stories are the right learning media to develop students' analytical skills.

Modeling contextual goals and detecting context conflicts from BDD-based user stories

Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) user stories are widely used in agile methods for capturing user requirements and acceptance criteria due to their simplicity and clarity. However, the concise structure of BDD-based user stories prevents capturing contextual information and connections between them, which help stakeholders understand requirements and uncover potential issues. The contextual goal models (CGMs) can provide explicit relationships between goals and contexts, but manually constructing models is effort-intensive. This paper proposes an automated approach called BUS2C to model contextual goals and detect context conflicts from BDD-based user stories. The aim is to improve requirements analysis by systematically eliciting goals and dependencies. BUS2C approach involves: (1) mapping BDD-based user story elements to CGMs, and (2) merging related models based on similarity. The context conflict detection algorithm checks if contexts associated with different goals are compatible using natural language metrics. We evaluated BUS2C approach through three experiments. First, we showed the effectiveness in merging scattered CGMs with common features. Second, we demonstrated the capability to construct CGMs from BDD-based user stories quickly, assisting modelers. Our merging method also produced models closer to manually built ones versus without merging. Third, we validated that the context conflict detection can successfully identify inconsistencies in small datasets, enhancing requirements quality. Further validation on larger datasets is needed. In conclusion, this work contributes automated techniques to systematically model and analyze contextual goals from BDD-based user stories. By providing unified goal understanding and detecting issues like conflicts, BUS2C approach aims to improve requirements analysis and support adaptive systems development.

ANALISIS CERITA “KITTY DAN KOMPETISI LAMPION” SEBAGAI ALTERNATIF BAHAN AJAR MEMBACA SASTRA DI SD

Literature learning is less interested by elementary school students. One of the reasons is that teaching materials are less attractive to students because they only used textbooks provided by the government. This research aims to describe the children’s story “Kitty dan Kompetisi Lampion” as an alternative literature reading teaching material in elementary school. This research used a qualitative approach with content analysis methods. Data comes from the children’s story book “Kitty dan Kompetisi Lampion” by Paula Harisson. Data was collected through documentation studies. Researchers as a human instrument. The data analysis technique uses data collection, data reduction, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research foound that the children’s story “Kitty dan Kompetisi Lampion” by Paula Harisson has both intrinsic such as theme, storyline, background or setting, characterization, messages, point of view, conflict; and extrinsic story elements consisting of the values of the story and the author’s background. Kitty’s personality structure consists of the id which is realized through the process of imagining and shown through feelings; the ego which is shown in reasoning; and the superego through action, words and advice which reflects society’s moral values. The story “Kitty dan Kompetisi Lampion” is eligibility criteria for teaching materials in terms of language, psychology, and cultural background. The linguistic dimension shows that this book is suitable for high class students. From a psychological dimension, this story book develops character values for its readers which are present in an interesting way. From the cultural background dimension, the culture shown in this book is appropriate with Indonesian culture.

Application Research of Brand Story in Marketing

Brand stories play a vital role in modern marketing. It can not only enhance the brand awareness, but also enhance the brand loyalty of consumers through emotional resonance. The construction of a brand story usually consists of four parts: beginning, development, climax, and ending. The beginning part introduces the origin and original intention of the brand, the development stage describes the growth and challenges of the brand, the climax part shows the success and brilliance of the brand, and the ending part looks forward to the future of the brand. This paper will explore the elements of the brand story and its application strategy in marketing, and analyze its practical effects through the Nike case.

Narrative Ability in Autism and First-Degree Relatives.

Narrative is an important communication skill for sharing personal experiences and connecting with others. Narrative skills are often impacted in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and have important consequences for social interactions and relationships. Subtle differences in narrative have also been reported among first-degree relatives of autistic individuals, suggesting that narrative may also be an etiologically important language-related skill that is influenced by genes associated with ASD. This study examined narrative ability and related visual attention during narration in ASD and first-degree relatives of individuals with ASD (siblings and parents) to understand how narrative and related attentional styles may be variably impacted across the spectrum of ASD genetic influence. Participants included 56 autistic individuals, 42 siblings of autistic individuals, 49 controls, 161 parents of autistic individuals, and 61 parent controls. Narratives were elicited using a wordless picture book presented on an eye tracker to record concurrent gaze. Findings revealed parallel patterns of narrative differences among ASD and sibling groups in the use of causal language to connect story elements and the use of cognitive and affective language. More subtle differences within the domain of causal language were evident in ASD parents. Parallel patterns in the ASD and sibling groups were also found for gaze during narration. Findings implicate causal language as a critical narrative skill that is impacted in ASD and may be reflective of ASD genetic influence in relatives. Gaze patterns during narration suggest similar attentional mechanisms associated with narrative among ASD families.

"A National Review of Crowdfunding for Plagiocephaly Helmets".

Custom prescription helmets for plagiocephaly may be a significant financial burden for families, especially when not covered by insurance. This study aims to identify factors that influence the success of crowdsourcing campaigns for this therapy. GoFundMe campaigns were collected by searching terms such as "plagiocephaly" and "baby helmet." Two reviewers analyzed each campaign for variables, including demographic data, story elements, and photo characteristics. Univariate logistic regression was used to determine each variable's impact on success, defined as attaining ≥75% of a campaign goal and significance of p ≤ 0.05. Campaign data from 2011 to 2022 were analyzed. Initial search yielded 1464 campaigns; among these 413 met final inclusion criteria. On average, campaigns raised $2005 (range: $0-$7799) and requested $3151 (range: $160-$30,000). In total, 228 (54%) achieved success, 167 (40%) met their goal, and 35 (8%) raised no funds. A total of $828,256 was raised from the requested $1,301,317. The average reported age was six months (range: 2-17 m). Significant factors associated with success were military affiliation, providing multiple images, including a quoted cost, providing campaign updates, indicating a sense of urgency, diagnosis of torticollis, and mentioning possible complications without treatment. Raising additional funds for therapy, multiple helmets, and unrelated medical costs negatively impacted success. Racial disparities were observed between campaigns. Additionally, regional differences were noted between campaigns. Crowdsourcing can be a successful endeavor for some families experiencing financial hardships from helmet therapy. This study highlights current gaps within healthcare coverage for helmet treatment and identifies various factors influencing crowdfunding campaigns.

Writing is a complex ability to express thoughts and ideas into written form as a means of conveying messages. Narrative text is an essay that presents a series of events chronologically with the aim of entertaining, increasing knowledge, providing insight and aesthetic experience to the reader. The characteristics of a narrative text include containing a story with a narrative language style, having a clear storyline, containing events/conflicts, as well as elements such as theme, setting, plot, characters and point of view. The linguistic elements of narrative texts include the use of figurative words (metaphors), transitive and intransitive verbs, nouns, adjectives, phrases/clauses, and conjunctions to mark time order. The type of narrative text consists of informative, artistic and suggestive narratives. The structure of narrative text consists of orientation, complication, resolution, and reorientation. The steps for writing a narrative text include determining the theme, target audience, designing the story line, developing the story, arranging story elements, and understanding punctuation rules. The narrative writing assessment includes aspects of content/ideas, writing organization, language, and writing grammar.

Once upon a game: boosting brand storytelling through gamification

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to explore the impact of gamifying brand storytelling on user immersion in the brand narrative, a concept referred to as “narrative transportation”. The aim is to comprehend how transportation influences users’ experience and their responses to the brand, with particular focus on brand attitude and WOM. The study also explores the role of interactivity in brand storytelling and its effects on transportation and user engagement.Design/methodology/approachFour experiments were conducted to sequentially test the proposed hypotheses. Each experiment involves ad hoc gamified brand stories for different product categories (wine, museum, glasses and frozen fruit).FindingsFindings indicate that including gamification elements in brand stories heightens narrative transportation and enhances the information obtained by users as well as their entertainment. Users thus respond more positively to the brand in terms of attitude and WOM. The study also reveals that high levels of interactivity in the game may actually decrease narrative transportation in the story, although this is offset by the perception of greater entertainment.Originality/valueThis research contributes to current understanding of brand storytelling and its impact on branding. It highlights the importance of offering users a gamified experience that can provide them with information about the brand whilst also offering them entertainment. The results also hold implications for gamification literature by emphasizing the need to ensure a balance between game and story vis-à-vis enhancing the impact of gamified storytelling on brand response.

IMPLEMENTASI METODE PEMBELAJARAN TEAM GAMES TOURNAMENT (TGT) DENGAN MEDIA GURITA PADA PEMBELAJARAN BAHASA INDONESIA MATERI UNSUR INTRINSIK CERITA PENDEK

This research aims to implement the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning method using an octopus media on the intrinsic elements of short stories and to determine the impact of implementing this teaching method. The study employs the Team Games Tournament (TGT) method with an octopus media to examine its implementation in teaching the intrinsic elements of short stories. It adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques and sources include classroom observations of XI-2 at SMA Negeri 1 Kepanjen, interviews with teacher, and questionnaires distributed to students. Data analysis employs data reduction techniques, where information is summarized and essential points are identified. The findings are presented descriptively. The implementation of the teaching method with the aid of media encourages active student participation in the learning process, and students do not feel bored when reading materials or short stories presented, which also positively impacts student learning outcomes.

Reflections on Ganymede

During the Ancient Greek and Roman periods, the myth of Ganymede, a beautiful Trojan boy who was abducted by Zeus on Mount Ida to be his immortal cupbearer, became the legendary origin and symbol of the aristocratic practice of pederasty. Resultingly, the various retellings of the myth reflect changes in societal perceptions of pederasty and display the unique relationship between myth, humanity, and culture. In the 21st century, artificial intelligence has similarly shone a new light on the relationship between human creativity and technology which will evolve over time as its place in society and academia is found. This paper has a two-fold goal: first to analyze the changes of which story elements are emphasized, the authors’ attitudes towards Ganymede and Zeus’ relationship, and the parallels between Ganymede’s character and eromenoi in twenty-four literary references to Ganymede across approximately 1300 years of Antiquity, and secondly, to compare those findings to the AI program ChatGPT, given the same prompt and data.

Experiments with a Dark Pedagogy: Learning from/through Temporality, Climate Change and Species Extinction (…and Ghosts)

Abstract In this article, we experiment with a form of dark pedagogy, a pedagogy that confronts haunting pasts∼presents∼futures in environmental education. We offer a conceptualisation of ghosts that enables us to creatively explore the duration of things and consider the relationality of time. We examine this through two situated contexts, engaging with entangled, yet differentiated, socioecological issues. The first issue involves the cascading impacts of climate change on the Australian Alps, including intensifying bushfires and threats to the iconic snow gum. The second issue involves the reordering of human/animal relations through processes of settler colonialism that continue to transform land into a commodity, with a significant cultural and material consequence of such colonial harm resulting in the extermination of free-ranging bison herds in the Canadian prairies. Both are unique issues, but both involve impacts of colonisation, loss and natural-cultural hegemony. The dark elements of these Place-specific stories involve noticing and confronting loss and related injustices. In our case, we diffract such confrontations by thinking through these challenging issues and working towards ethical ways of living and learning. In this article, we (re)member ghosts and ponder practices for fostering anticolonial response-abilities and affirmative human/Earth futures.

This story element is what differentiates SukkhaCitta from other fast fashion products that only follow trends.
