This study explores the artistic qualities of shi (internal energy) within Xu Beihong’s depiction of the working class, guided by the principles of traditional Chinese aesthetics. Focusing on the painting Ba Ren Ji Shui (Sichuan Folks Drawing Water from the River), the analysis examines how shi—alongside elements of nature, qi (vital energy), and emotion—interacts within the structural and thematic composition of the artwork. Impact of Mattering on Parental Attachment: Social Support Mediation and Self-Efficacy Moderation in Rural Chinese Children

Strong emotional relationships between parents and children are thought to be essential for developing a child's emotion of mattering, according to earlier research. Through the investigation of these relationships, the study aims to improve knowledge of the psychological and emotional elements that support normal growth in the population. To offer regulation for reinforcement of parental support networks in marginalized groups, it draws attention to the importance of these variables in determining the quality of attachment. This study explores the connection among mattering (MAT) and Parental Attachment (PA) with a focus on the dynamics that affect Social Support (SS) and Self Efficacy (SE) between rural Chinese children. Validated questionnaires assessing PA, MAT, SS, SE, and Parental Support (PS) are utilized to collect data from a sample (190) of Chinese children living in rural areas. Significantly favourable connections, especially between MAT and PA, are revealed by correlation analysis. These results reveal avenues for improving the development of rural Chinese children by underlining the significance of social networks and emotional attachments in fostering psychological well-being.

Temporal Changes in Depressive Symptoms Among Goodville Farm Game Players: A 6-Week Observational Study.

Aim of the Study: The primary objective was to evaluate the potential impact of the Goodville farm game on depressive symptoms. Methods: The Goodville game, characterized by its unique farming features, incorporates elements of emotional well-being and various mental health assessment tools, enabling players to monitor and improve their emotional state. Using self-reported Patient Health Questionnaire-8 (PHQ-8) data from 1717 US and UK players, changes were monitored weekly over a 6-week period. The study focused on the game's ability to integrate emotional well-being elements and various mental health assessments to facilitate self-monitoring and improvement of players' emotional states. Results: There was a significant overall time effect (F = 154.498, df = 1711, P < 0.001), indicating a moderate-to-large effect size, with progressive decreases in PHQ-8 scores throughout the period. About 60% of players reported reduced depressive symptom severity, with around 35% experiencing complete symptom relief. More significant improvements were observed in players with higher initial severity. No correlations were found between symptom changes and demographic data or the number of active playing days. Conclusion: Goodville demonstrates potential as a digital mental health intervention in reducing depressive symptoms through its specific characteristics designed to improve emotional well-being. The study emphasizes the need to consider baseline severity and highlights the therapeutic promise of authentic farming game features. Despite the absence of a control group, the findings contribute meaningful insights into digital interventions for mental health care and set a direction for future studies to validate and expand upon these results.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between experiential elements in sports brand stores and brand love, with involvement serving as a moderating effect. This research seeks to enable sports product manufacturers and retailers to better understand consumers and establish a foundation for experiential marketing strategies. The survey was conducted over a 15-day period from January 10, 2024, to January 25, 2024. A total of 720 questionnaires were distributed online, and after excluding insincere responses, 697 questionnaires were used as the final data for analysis. The collected survey data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 28.0, employing frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, in the study of sports brand store experiences, targeting consumers who have experienced sports brand experiential marketing in Shanghai, China, it was found that sensory, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and relational elements have a significant positive impact on brand love. Second, involvement was found to have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between experiential elements (sensory, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and relational) and brand love. Therefore, it is important to develop experiential marketing strategies that enhance consumer experiences, leveraging the fact that the experiential elements (sensory, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and relational) at sports brand stores positively impact brand love. In particular, since the relationship between experiential elements and brand love is strengthened when consumer involvement is high, it is necessary to plan customized experiential marketing activities to increase involvement. Such an approach will contribute to strengthening the relationship with consumers and enhancing brand loyalty.

Analyzing the consumer journey for hiking of the John Muir Trail

Most research on the consumer journey has focused on product purchases. This research, however, examines the consumer journey for experiences – in this case a long-distance hike. Two studies examine how people become aware of, learn more about, prepare for, evaluate, and reflect on a 200-mile hike on the John Muir Trail in California. The first study interviewed hikers while on the trail. The second study analyzed online discussion groups dedicated to the trail. These studies reveal that the idea of a long-distance hike often arises from a mention by others where people add the idea to a mental “bucket list”. For those with whom the idea resonates, they may quickly decide to hike the trail, though their motivation may not always be clear, and the trip may not occur for quite some time. Getting a permit is frequently a barrier, but online communities often offer advice. Preparation for the hike is typically a high-involvement process that involves purchasing equipment and physical training. The hike itself is a paradox of aesthetic appreciation in the face of physical struggle. Importantly, many hikers later report the journey as an important experience and serve as evangelists for other hikers. The two studies corroborate certain notions about the consumer decision process while calling others into question. For instance, they validate the significance of word-of-mouth recommendations from individuals with similar backgrounds, which plays a pivotal role in raising awareness. Simultaneously, they challenge conventional thinking by demonstrating that the decision-making process is influenced not solely by rational factors but also by emotional elements. Finally, these findings underscore the importance of employing multiple research methods to comprehensively grasp the intricate aspects of the consumer journey, especially the consumption of experiences.

A - 30 Chiari Malformation Type I: the Powerful Impact of Participation in Computerized Working Memory Training on Mood and Self-Perception

Abstract Objective Chiari Malformation type I (CM-I), a disorder characterized by displaced cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum, is neuropsychologically complex and underrecognized. While decompressive neurosurgical intervention relieves physiological symptoms, cognitive and neuropsychiatric challenges may persist. Given the importance of attentional abilities and emotional functioning for post-operative quality of life for CM-I patients, exploring the effects of CogMed Computerized Working Memory Training (CCWMT) on aforementioned elements, specifically self-perception, is essential to the neurological surgery survivorship mission. Method Three CM-I patients diagnosed in adulthood were enrolled in CCWMT approximately three years post-operatively; each with self-reported decrements in attentional functioning following neurosurgical intervention with neurocognitive measures within normal limits and moderate levels of self-reported mood dysfunction and decline in self-perceived pre-surgical functional status. Comprehensive neuropsychological testing was completed pre and post CCWMT treatment, consisting of 25 sessions of progressively challenging working memory exercises completed within 5–12 weeks. Results There were no significant decrements in objective attentional-based measures pre-CCWMT treatment relative to baseline estimates and no significant changes pre to post CCWMT treatment. However, there were clinically significant decreases in self-reported depression. Further, post-treatment improvement in self-perception of functioning aligned with degree of improvement index within the CCWMT program. Conclusions Given the positive prognosis of post-surgical CM-I patients, clinical neuropsychological investigation can maximize a patient’s quality of life by extrapolating cognitive and emotional elements that interact as barriers to optimal outcomes. This case series underscores that effortful participation in intensive cognitive remediation may enhance mood and self-perception beyond objective cognitive enhancement, thereby supporting holistic aspects of a patient’s recovery.

Customer Engagement Through Transformational Campaigns: A Netnographic Exploration on the Storytelling Power of ‘Jaago Re’

Storytelling is a strategic marketing tool for building customer engagement by anecdotally structuring branded content to grab their attention. The present study renders a scholarly narrative of a transformational ad campaign and its resultant customer engagement on social media. The study follows a netnographic approach, using a qualitative triangulation method to observe the engagement around this campaign. Data are collected from online platforms, namely, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The study identifies the sentiments of customer engagement in the campaign. Furthermore, a semiotic analysis has appraised the storytelling elements in the campaign videos. The findings suggest that storytelling can effectively connect with audiences and drive home critical messages by using narratives and emotional elements. The findings have implications for marketing professionals who want to understand the impact of storytelling on transformational advertising campaigns.

Novel Insight into the Association between Balneotherapy and Functional State and Health Perception in Chronic Low Back Pain: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Epidemiological data indicate that low back pain (LBP) affected 619 million people globally in 2020, representing a significant health and economic burden. Additionally, chronic LBP (cLBP) strongly impairs quality of life and leads to disability and premature retirement, thus emphasizing the need for providing deeper insight into the factors that affect treatment outcomes and for offering thorough guidance for the assessment and management of this condition. Taking into consideration the rising prevalence of cLBP and the knowledge gap referring to the overall health benefits of balneotherapy (BT), the aim of this study was to assess the effects of BT on functional status, quality of life, and psychological symptoms in patients with cLBP. Methods: Among 220 patients from the database, two groups were retrospectively identified: patients receiving conventional pharmacological therapy (CT) and patients receiving BT. The effectiveness of the treatment was assessed through a visual analog scale for pain intensity, EuroQol (EQ-5D), and the Work Ability Index Questionnaire. In order to provide deeper insight into the quality of life and also factors associated with functional status and mental health affected by BT, we also used the Short Form Health Survey Questionnaire and the Center of Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. Results: Both age and treatment protocol were found to have a significant impact on all observed parameters, i.e., older patients and those receiving CT tended to report lower overall health and physical functioning. On the other hand, BT was associated with better functionality and disability perception status. Conclusions: Understanding the association between individual perceptions of functionality and its emotional and social elements provides a basis for providing comprehensive guidelines and recommendations for cLBP management.

Workaholism in higher education. An exploration of the cognitive, emotional, motivational, and behavioural elements

ABSTRACT An increasing body of work has found higher education to be a challenging and stressful environment. Meanwhile, research on workaholism, characterised by an uncontrollable urge to work excessively, has been gaining momentum. However, few studies have explored its impact within higher education. This study addressed this gap by conducting 27 semi-structured interviews with academics in the greater Dublin region, exploring the micro, meso, and macro-level factors influencing workaholism. Using a constructivist grounded theory approach, the study examined workaholism in higher education, unpacking Clark, Smith, and Haynes ([2020]. “The Multidimensional Workaholism Scale: Linking the Conceptualization and Measurement of Workaholism.” Journal of Applied Psychology 105 (11): 1281–1307.) recent definition of workaholism as a multidimensional construct comprising motivation, cognition, emotion, and behaviour. Twelve participants displayed tendencies of excessive working and constant thoughts about work, driven by negative feelings when not working. These tendencies were rooted in motivations to gain control and build a personal brand. All elements of workaholism have micro, meso, and macro influences, understood through a transdisciplinary lens. As a result, this study calls for responsible, sustainable management within higher education to avoid the negative impacts of workaholism on academics, students, and institutions.

Propaganda in focus: decoding the media strategy of ISIS

This investigation employs the analytical framework established by Braddock and Horgan to conduct a comprehensive content analysis of 79 official English-language propaganda videos disseminated by ISIS, with the objective of quantifying the thematic composition and the evolutionary trajectory of ISIS’s international media operations and propaganda machinery from 2014 to 2017. The findings reveal that a predominant portion of the videos articulate narratives extensively centred around themes of the adversary and religious discourse, with the Sharia (Islamic law) emerging as the most prevalent theme. This research concludes that at a global scale, the propaganda apparatus of ISIS has orchestrated an intricate narrative, incorporating adversarial, theological, and emotional elements, thereby delineating the advanced sophistication of ISIS’s global propaganda endeavours.

This autoethnographic study examines powerviolence in the predominantly Hispanic unincorporated area of El Rio, California, from the perspective of a drummer in a local powerviolence band. The unique human geography of El Rio, characterized by its demographic composition, urban layout, and cultural practices, shapes sonic cartographies and influences how individuals understand sound. Situating powerviolence as a form of “borderlands noise-music,” this article investigates the intersection of sound perception and cultural identity, particularly for Chicano noise musicians. By exploring how powerviolence subverts dominant music constructs through its sonic, linguistic, emotional, and iconographic elements, this article highlights the transformative potential of noise-music in marginalized communities. Drawing on a sonic lineage from hardcore punk to powerviolence in California, commonalities among hardcore punk, thrashcore, grindcore, and powerviolence are illuminated, providing a basis for understanding powerviolence through sound. Furthermore, this study foregrounds the significance of powerviolence and noise-music as accessible forms of expression, particularly for aspiring musicians who lack the means to pursue formal study. By amplifying voices that may otherwise go unheard, powerviolence allows noise musicians to feel audible to dominant capitalist society.

An Audiovisual Correlation Matching Method Based on Fine-Grained Emotion and Feature Fusion.

Most existing intelligent editing tools for music and video rely on the cross-modal matching technology of the affective consistency or the similarity of feature representations. However, these methods are not fully applicable to complex audiovisual matching scenarios, resulting in low matching accuracy and suboptimal audience perceptual effects due to ambiguous matching rules and associated factors. To address these limitations, this paper focuses on both the similarity and integration of affective distribution for the artistic audiovisual works of movie and television video and music. Based on the rich emotional perception elements, we propose a hybrid matching model based on feature canonical correlation analysis (CCA) and fine-grained affective similarity. The model refines KCCA fusion features by analyzing both matched and unmatched music-video pairs. Subsequently, the model employs XGBoost to predict relevance and to compute similarity by considering fine-grained affective semantic distance as well as affective factor distance. Ultimately, the matching prediction values are obtained through weight allocation. Experimental results on a self-built dataset demonstrate that the proposed affective matching model balances feature parameters and affective semantic cognitions, yielding relatively high prediction accuracy and better subjective experience of audiovisual association. This paper is crucial for exploring the affective association mechanisms of audiovisual objects from a sensory perspective and improving related intelligent tools, thereby offering a novel technical approach to retrieval and matching in music-video editing.

Analysis of Forms and Usage of Onomatopoeia in Babymetal Band Singer's Song Lyrics

The aim of this descriptive qualitative study discusses the analysis of forms and usage of onomatopoeia in the Babymetal Band singer song lyrics so that listeners can understand the meanings of the lyrics. Using listening and note-taking techniques, data is analyzed by Miles and Huberman's semantic theory. The result concludes that there are 14 contexts in the lyrics containing onomatopoeia that can be categorized into 5 types i.e. Giseigo, Giongo, Gitaigo, Giyougo, Gijougo, and 8 characteristics i.e. Gokon, Oto wo tsumeru, Oto ho haneru, Cho'on, Morpheme “ri”, Hanpukukei, Oto no ichibu koutai, Counter sound Seion and Dakuon. However, the types Gijougo and the characteristic Hanpukukei were most frequently found because Babymetal often uses emotional elements in their music.

Healthcare Professionals’ Perspectives on Perinatal Well-Being Across the Perinatal Period

OBJECTIVE:Perinatal well-being (PWB) is holistic, multifaceted, and more than the absence or low levels of adverse physical, emotional, and mental elements. Little is known about the understanding of perinatal well-being (WB) by perinatal healthcare professionals (HCPs). The objectives were twofold: (a) to explore what perinatal HCPs understand by PWB and (b) to explore what they perceive influences PWB.METHODS:Nine UK-based HCPs (n= 4 health visitors,n= 4 perinatal mental health clinicians,n= 1 midwife, andn= 1 General Practitioner) caring for women during the perinatal period completed an online qualitative survey relating to PWB. Participants also ranked factors which may potentially influence PWB.RESULTS:Four overarching themes were developed from the qualitative responses encompassing different aspects of PWB including the context of women’s WB, the dynamic nature of this period, and the role of HCPs. They also characterized the period as a uniquely stressful and risky time.CONCLUSIONS:HCPs predominantly described physical and mental elements when discussing PWB. Some did mention the importance of financial, spiritual, and relational elements. The predominant focus on physical and mental aspects of WB may reflect the biomedical model underpinning perinatal/maternity care provision. The pros, cons, and implications of a move toward a more WB-focused approach within policy and practice are an area for future research.

Learning approaches in students of the areas of Health Sciences belonging to a regional university in Chile

Introduction: in university education, various factors such as emotional aspects, behavior and cognitive elements influence the participation of students in the learning process. The students who achieve the best results are those who participate metacognitively, with motivation and active behavior, also considering contextual and personal factors. It is at this point where the learning approach plays a fundamental role in understanding academic performance.Methods: in the present research, 277 health sciences students from a Chilean public university were evaluated using a Spanish version of the R-SPQ-2F questionnaire to evaluate learning approaches, motives and strategies.Results: most of the students presented a predominantly deep learning approach, although with a low intensity. At the strategy level, 32.85% presented a superficial approach. Significant differences were found between the approaches and between their respective subscales.Conclusions: Those who present a deep approach usually present deep strategies and motives. The presence of deep motivation without a deep type of strategy is usually associated with a superficial approach.

Research on the Clustering of Emotional Elements in Art and Design Based on Visual Language Communication

Since many different emotional expressions can be found in artistic and design compositions, it can be challenging to effectively extract and analyze emotional information from such a wide range of artworks. This study uses deep learning approaches to extract and cluster emotional aspects from art and design works to address this problem. The suggested method uses DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) for clustering and combines the VGG-16 and Bi-LSTM models for feature extraction from images. The suggested approach works better than existing models in extracting emotional information pieces, according to experimental results. With a Macro-F1 assessment score of 0.9241, the suggested technique can efficiently examine emotional inclinations in artistic and design works in practical applications. In conclusion, this study discusses the potential applications of the suggested emotion element extraction and clustering method in the field of emotional analysis in art and design, offering fresh approaches to issues in this area.

How to undertake a holistic nutritional assessment with older people.

Nutrition is a fundamental aspect of nursing care, however older people cared for in hospital, in a care home or in their own home do not always receive adequate support with their nutritional needs, which can leave them at risk of malnutrition. Using a holistic, biopsychosocial framework to support a comprehensive nutritional assessment that includes malnutrition screening can support the nurse to identify the older person's nutritional status and nutrition needs. Nurses undertaking this procedure must ensure they have the knowledge and skills to do so and work within the limits of their competence. • Malnutrition in older people can lead to a decline in functional ability, reduced muscle strength, fatigue, impaired immunity, suboptimal wound healing, increased risk of infection and increased risk of falls. • Screening for, and assessing the risk of, malnutrition is an important part of nursing assessments in any healthcare setting. • A holistic nutritional assessment should incorporate physiological, psychological, emotional, spiritual, social and cultural elements. Emotionally Tailored Web-Based Instruction: A Catalyst for Improved Performance Across Emotional Intelligence Levels

This study examined the impact of emotionally sound web-based teaching on the learners' achievement regarding English grammar. Emotions play a crucial role in education, influencing students' ability to process information and learn effectively. The education system is not giving importance and attention to emotional intelligence education in schools and colleges. They often stress on IQ and not on EI. This study aims to improve English grammar performance by using emotionally sound web-based instruction, addressing the impact of emotions on learning outcomes. The sample of the population for this study was 183 Form Three students selected from a secondary school in Peninsular Malaysia. The research instruments included Pre-test, Post-test, and Trait Emotional Intelligence — Short Form (TEIQue-SF). The research design for this study is Quasi-Experimental with pre-test and post-test designs. In this study, the independent variable would be the instructional strategies, under two types of treatment conditions as well (Web-based Instruction with Emotional Element (WBIe) and Web-based Instruction without Emotional Element (WBIwe), and a moderator variable (level of emotional intelligence)) in two levels of emotional intelligence (high and low level of emotional intelligence). A simple 2×2 factorial design was employed here. The results indicated that students in WBIe were performing better rather than in WBIwe in terms of student success in learning English Grammar and between students of emotional intelligence with a high level on each of the WBIe and WBIwe types had the same score. It was found that the emotional intelligence level has a role in the WBIe and the WBIwe performance of the students. The emotional intelligence of high EI students scored higher on English grammar than the EI of low EI students. The results of this study established a link between sound web-based instruction and instruction; it also serves as a call for an instructional designer to understand clearly, why and how emotions affect learning. They can use this to determine how to harness their emotions toward the most effective kind of learning.

Design and Evaluation of Packaging Art Based on Sentimental Value Calculation and Clustering

This paper introduces the cultural dimension of product packaging, elucidates the quantification principle and methodology governing customer aesthetic experiences, propounds an innovative packaging style design approach, and presents an evaluation model based on an enhanced neural network. Using tea packaging design as an illustrative case, the methodology initially aligns adjectives, subsequently computes the emotional depth value, and ultimately derives the corresponding correlation between customer emotional experiences and design elements through a neural network. Subsequently, the designed model is validated using tea packaging design as a practical example. The outcomes demonstrate the model's accuracy and efficacy in establishing the mapping between design elements and aesthetic experiences, offering novel insights for the evolution of packaging design in the contemporary market landscape.
