Electromagnetic Phenomena in Nature and Their Causes

Abstract All physical phenomena that occur in nature are related to one or another mutual effects. Electric and magnetic phenomena are of particular importance in order to gain extensive knowledge about the structure of the world around us. Electric and magnetic forces can be transmitted over a certain distance like gravitational forces. While the source of the gravitational field is mass, the source of the electromagnetic field is electric charge. The only reason for such a contradiction may be the discrepancy between the research methods used by science and the essence of the problem being studied. Historically, all research methods should be divided into methods before and after the advent of the computer era. It was the former that were at the disposal of researchers whose recommendations were used in the formation of the existing regulatory framework.

Enhancing the efficiency of Brown 24 pigment production through continuous microwave heating in conveyor belt and rotary kiln systems: A design and optimization study

In energy intensive industries, the continuous production with microwave technology presents several challenges in achieving high energy efficiency and heating uniformity. In the ceramic pigments sector, the Brown 24 is the ideal candidate for this study due to its susceptibility to thermal runaways and its high temperature to reach total conversion, higher than 1000K. By another hand, most literature related to this field focus on static systems while ignoring the continuous ones which are required by the industry. A coupled model that integrates thermal, electromagnetic and chemical phenomena within an energy system was implemented in COMSOL Multiphysics. Additionally, a MATLAB controller was employed to dynamically adjust the cavity length through a moving plunger, which maximizes the electrical efficiency. The required power is also managed to guarantee a total chemical conversion of the material. The proposed optimization methodology reduces computational costs, and it is applicable to any continuous microwave system processing moving solid materials. In this work, two microwave configurations were optimized. The first one, based on a conveyor belt, achieved a global efficiency close to 70%. While the second one, based on a rotary kiln, achieved a global efficiency of 85% and a production rate of 4.66kg/h, significantly outperforming a previous study by factors of 1.57 and 2.06, respectively. These findings show the potential for substantial improvements in continuous microwave systems.

A novel design of symmetrical grating built on D-shaped optical fiber sensor-based surface plasmon resonance

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) is an electromagnetic phenomenon that occurs during the interaction between metals and dielectric materials. Fiber sensors show much attention in the last few decades because of their extremely sensitive performance. A novel design of a Dual symmetrical grating D-shaped fiber (Dual SGD-SF) based plasmonic sensor was theoretically studied. The effects of grating depth and gold and silver thickness were investigated. For the Dual SGD-SF sensor design at analyte RI = 1.5 and grating depth = 0.3 μm, the resonance wavelength at the maximum loss was 2.4 μm. The maximum wavelength sensitivity, resolution, and FOM for Dual SGD-SF were obtained at 2000 nm/RIU, 0.00005 RIU, and 22.22 RIU−1, respectively. This design was proposed for sensing very low concentrations of analyte and helps to discover the variations of refractive indices compared to high-purity liquids. To the best of our knowledge, using a symmetrical grating design as a refractive index sensor has not previously been reported.

Numerical simulation and measurements on reduced scale structures of floating production storage and offloading units

Protecting offshore structures against the effects of lightning strikes, sparks, and short circuits is a considerable challenge to designers and deployment engineers once the numerous exposed structures, pieces of equipment, and devices make the behavior of electromagnetic phenomena difficult to predict. Numerical simulations are important tools to predict such behavior. However, due to the uncertainties involved, they should be compared against laboratory results. This paper presents the results of the measurements performed on three scaled models and compares them to those obtained with two different applications, CST Studio Suite and NEC-4. We elaborate hypotheses regarding the differences between laboratory results and those obtained using simulation software. As an application, after validating modeling techniques, the paper discusses the results of induction on cable loops on “gooseneck” chimneys commonly used in ships and floating production storage and offloading units.

Electromagnetic effects on solitons propagation of the (3+1)-dimensional extended Zakharov-Kuznetsov dynamical model with applications

This paper investigates wave solutions and electromagnetic wave phenomena governed by the (3+1)-dimensional extended Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation (EZKE) utilizing the Sardar sub-equation method. With a focus on electromagnetic wave generation and propagation, we rigorously analyze fundamental properties, soliton solutions, and dynamic behaviors of the EZKE. Through this analytical technique, we unravel the complex interplay among various wave types, including solitary waves and electromagnetic structures, elucidating their formation mechanisms and interaction dynamics. Furthermore, we delve into the stability characteristics of the EZKE, enhancing our understanding of its mathematical and physical implications. Our findings not only contribute to theoretical insights into nonlinear wave phenomena in (3+1)-dimensional space but also hold practical significance in plasma physics, nonlinear optics, and electromagnetic wave propagation. This study advances the development of innovative wave manipulation and control techniques, with applications ranging from plasma confinement in fusion devices to the design of advanced photonic devices for telecommunications and sensing purposes.

Automatic Detection of Quasi-Periodic Emissions from Satellite Observations by Using DETR Method

The ionospheric quasi-periodic wave is a type of typical and common electromagnetic wave phenomenon occurring in extremely low-frequency (ELF) and very low-frequency ranges (VLF). These emissions propagate in a distinct whistler-wave mode, with varying periodic modulations of the wave intensity over time scales from several seconds to a few minutes. We developed an automatic detection model for the QP waves in the ELF band recorded by the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite. Based on the 827 QP wave events, which were collected through visual screening from the electromagnetic field observations, an automatic detection model based on the Transformer architecture was built. This model, comprising 34.27 million parameters, was trained and evaluated. It achieved mean average precision of 92.3% on the validation dataset, operating at a frame rate of 39.3 frames per second. Notably, after incorporating the proton cyclotron frequency constraint, the model displayed promising performance. Its lightweight design facilitates easy deployment on satellite equipment, significantly enhancing the feasibility of on-board detection.

A Neurophysical Hypothesis on the Role of the Intensity of the Electromagnetic Field Generated by the Cerebral Hemispheres in the Determination of Laterality, in Line with Einstein's Unified Field Theory

Abstract Objective: Traditional models of cerebral laterality, focusing primarily on anatomical and functional asymmetries, fall short of explaining the underlying physical dynamics. This study pioneers a novel perspective by hypothesizing that the intensity of the electromagnetic field generated by the cerebral hemispheres plays a crucial role in determining laterality. Inspired by Einstein's unified field theory, we explore this hypothesis through an interdisciplinary approach that merges principles of physics with neurophysiology. Material and Methods: Our research employed an innovative experimental design involving three groups of male Wistar albino rats categorized based on handedness: right-handed, left-handed, and ambidextrous. We utilized electroencephalography (EEG) to measure the electromagnetic field intensity of the cerebral hemispheres, analyzing the data through a lens that combines traditional neuroscientific methods with concepts adapted from field theory. Results: The findings reveal a significant correlation between the intensity of the electromagnetic field in the dominant hemisphere and handedness, with dominant hemispheres displaying higher field intensities. Notably, ambidextrous rats exhibited no significant difference in field intensity between hemispheres, underscoring the potential influence of electromagnetic fields on hemispheric dominance. Conclusion: This study's implications suggest a radical rethinking of how cerebral functions might be influenced by electromagnetic phenomena. The integration of Einstein's unified field theory into the study of cerebral laterality opens new pathways for research. Our findings advocate for a broader, more integrated understanding of brain functionality, highlighting the need for further interdisciplinary research in this nascent field.

Evaluation method of dynamic indentation behavior of glass based on electromagnetic induction phenomena

AbstractContact damage of glass is one of the most crucial issues for glass products. To develop strong and tough glass products and to compare damage resistance among glass compositions, a simple method for evaluating the mechanical response of glass during contact is required not only for glass mechanists but also for glass customers and suppliers. Although it is well known that the quasi‐static Vickers indentation test is one of the simplest and most useful methods to evaluate hardness and brittleness in glass, the indentation response of glass under the indenter at higher impact velocities remains to be quantitively understood because of the difficulty of measurement and limited experimental works. In this study, therefore, the dynamic indentation behavior of soda‐lime glass is evaluated by using a lab‐made free‐drop indentation set‐up with the coils for detecting electromotive forces (EMFs). The cono‐spherical indenter made of tungsten carbide attached with a neodymium magnet was employed to generate the EMFs when the indenter passed through the coils located near the glass sample. The impact load versus indentation depth curve during the impact within a few tens of microseconds was successfully obtained both for an elastic contact and for an inelastic contact. Under an elastic condition, where no residual indent nor any cracks were left on the glass surface after the test, it is confirmed that there is almost no hysteresis in the impact load versus indentation depth curve and that the curve can be reproduced by the Hertzian analytical solution. Under an inelastic condition, on the other hand, it is found that the hysteresis in the impact load versus indentation depth curve stems from inelastic phenomena, such as plastic deformation (shear flow and/or permanent densification) and cracking. These results suggest that the dynamic indentation technique based on electromagnetic induction phenomena is a useful and effective tool for evaluating the mechanical responses of glasses during the impact.

A Study on the Problem of AC Corrosion of Power Umbilical Cables Caused by Electromagnetic Induction Phenomena

During the normal laying and operation of a three-core umbilical cable, AC current can easily lead to AC electrochemical corrosion on the outer surface of the steel tube. To explore the electrochemical corrosion mechanism and the factors affecting the three-core umbilical cable, this paper optimizes the internal induced potential calculation method for three-core umbilical cables. It analyzes the changes in the characteristics of the induced potential and explores the variations in the density of induced current under different conditions. The research results show that by optimizing the calculation method for the induction potential of the umbilical cable’s steel pipe, for the electromagnetic significance of the smallest repeating unit, the induction potential on the steel pipe’s surface exhibited a cyclic change. The peak part of the induction potential is most likely to experience electrochemical corrosion. Additionally, reducing the radius of the outer insulation aperture of the steel pipe and improving the conductivity of seawater will increase the density of the induced current in the insulation aperture, thereby increasing the risk of electrochemical corrosion. As the cable pitch and AC frequency increase, the current density in the steel pipe pores will also rise.

Study of the Simulation and Application of the PEEC Method for Modeling the Prediction of Emissions Radiated by the Onboard Electronic Wiring System

The coexistence of electronic power and control systems in the same box presents a serious threat to the proper functioning of electronic systems integrated into automobiles, aeronautics and space. Thus, managing the electromagnetic compatibility of these systems constitutes a challenge, particularly given electromagnetic phenomena. This paper describes a simulation study and application of the partial element equivalent circuit method to model the prediction of radiated emissions from the onboard electronic cable system. In this article, we first explain the use of the partial cell equivalent circuit modeling method, then describe its mathematical formulation and introduce the different electromagnetic phenomena it considers in connection with wiring, then propose radiation calculations electromagnetic as a function of the geometry of the discrete cells taking into account the increase in frequency. The goal is to get as close to the structure as possible. To balance the accuracy and speed of the proposed method, we replaced the partial capacities with the equivalent capacities so as to considerably minimize the number of capacities, the complexity of the system and the computational time requirement. This option adapts the partial element equivalent circuit method to the study of larger structures such as cable structures and provides an efficient and rapid way to simulate electromagnetic radiation. To achieve this objective, we have associated the physical laws of electromagnetic wave propagation with the method of modeling equivalent circuits using partial elements because it is easy to manipulate flat surfaces and cables. 2D simulations based on the proposed models were developed as well as the verification of the consistency of the different models, by comparing the fractal dimensions of the program results with those of the figures obtained experimentally.

The designs and dynamic properties of electromechanical and hydraulic drives for a belt conveyor have been analyzed to justify their selection. The main advantages and disadvantages of their operation have been formulated. It has been established that the hydraulic drive has advantages compared to the electromechanical one for installation in a built-in drive for a belt conveyor. The design features and principles of operation of these drives have been described. Calculation schemes have been developed for the electromechanical and hydraulic drives of the belt conveyor. A mathematical model of the electromechanical drive has been constructed, taking into account the Voigt viscoelastic model for the conveyor belt, Hooke's laws for the deformation of stretching elements, equations of motion of the mechanical system, and electromagnetic phenomena in the asynchronous motor. Additionally, a mathematical model for the hydraulic drive of the belt conveyor has been constructed, which, besides the equations of motion of the mechanical system and the Voigt viscoelastic model for the conveyor belt, also includes the continuity equations of the working fluid flows in the hydraulic drive. The parameters of the belt conveyor for studying the dynamic properties of the electromechanical and hydraulic drives, which are considered in the mathematical models, have been described. The mathematical models for the electromechanical and hydraulic drives have been solved using the Mathcad software package. Theoretical curves for cases of transient processes in the mechanical system of the belt conveyor without load and with load have been constructed. Transient processes of acting torques and angular velocities have been compared by the dynamic coefficient, and it has been established that the hydraulic drive has a better indicator by 1.78 times. It has also been established that the duration of the transient process in the drive with the electric motor exceeds this parameter in the drive with the hydraulic motor by 3.5 times. It is recommended to use the built-in hydraulic drive for belt conveyors of mobile working machines because it has more advantages over the electromechanical one, and the dynamic indicators of the hydraulic drive provide better performance during operation.

Evaluation of low voltage on electrical cables using microct and COMSOL Multiphysics

Safety and quality are critical challenges in electrical engineering and unscheduled system outages caused by device failures present a significant concern. One of its main causes is the presence of air voids in the insulating layer of power cables. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of current pulses, which generally occurs in transients, on the proliferation of voids in the insulating layer of electrical cables. X-ray microtomography (microCT) was used in the identification and analysis of air voids in aluminum (Al) and copper (Cu) electrical cables, with different cross-sectional areas, before and after electrical current pulses. The results showed an increase in voids caused by current pulses and an increase in electromagnetic fields and temperature inside the conductor. Furthermore, it was observed that the current pulses applied to the cables increased the agglomeration of small imperfections in voids of larger diameters and it was possible to verify the phenomenon of electrical arborescence in the cable with the aluminum core, as well as modifications in the core of stranded cables. Soon after, the Comsol Multiphysics software was used, which uses the Finite Element Method (FEM), solving Maxwell's equations, to better understand the information accessed by the microCT technique that describes electromagnetic phenomena in power cables. The results showed that cables with a greater number of voids have higher electromagnetic field densities when compared to cables without voids in the insulation, showing an increase of 7.5, 10.16, and 9.91 for the copper cables of 25, 35 and 50 mm2, respectively.

Multistable Memristor Synapse-Based Coupled Bi-Hopfield Neuron Model: Dynamic Analysis, Microcontroller Implementation and Image Encryption

The memristor, a revolutionary electronic component, mimics both neural synapses and electromagnetic induction phenomena. Recent study challenges are the development of effective neural models and discovering their dynamics. In this study, we propose a novel Hopfield neural network model leveraging multistable memristors, showcasing its efficacy in encoding biomedical images. We investigate the equilibrium states and dynamic behaviors of our designed model through comprehensive numerical simulations, revealing a rich array of phenomena including periodic orbits, chaotic dynamics, and homogeneous coexisting attractors. The practical realization of our model is achieved using a microcontroller, with experimental results demonstrating strong agreement with theoretical analyses. Furthermore, harnessing the chaos inherent in the neural network, we develop a robust biomedical image encryption technique, validated through rigorous computational performance tests.

Water Evaporation as an Electromagnetic Phenomenon

Water evaporation is currently perceived as a predominantly mechanical phenomenon. This perception is due to the predominance of views based on classical thermodynamics, using the concept of an ideal gas, and, consequently, on molecular kinetic theory. Therefore, the fact that water vapor is always positively charged is perceived as a curiosity. Since this approach is unsatisfactory, it is proposed here to perceive the evaporation of water as a phenomenon caused by the electromagnetic forces of the Earth. In this regard, it is proposed here to take into account the existence of an upward Lorentz force arising as a result of the daily movement of the earth’s surface relative to the geomagnetic field lines. The productivity of this perception of water evaporation is shown here.

A 3-D Global FDTD Courant-limit Model of the Earth for Long-time-span and High-altitude Applications

A new global 3-D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) model is introduced to simulate electromagnetic wave propagation around the Earth, including the lithosphere, oceans, atmosphere, and ionosphere regions. This model has several advantages over existing global models, which include grids that follow lines of latitude and longitude and geodesic grids comprised of hexagons and pentagons. The advantages of the new model include: (1) it may be run at the Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy (CFL) time step (as a result, it is termed the Courant-limit model); (2) subgrids may be added to specific regions of the model as needed in a straight-forward manner; and (3) the grid cells do not become infinitely larger as the grid is extended higher in altitude. As a result, this model is a better candidate than the others for investigating electromagnetic phenomena over long time spans of interest and for investigating atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere coupling. The new model is first described and then validated by comparing results for extremely low frequency (ELF) propagation attenuation with corresponding analytical and measurement results reported in the literature.

Theory of Collective Excitations in the Quadruple-Q Magnetic Hedgehog Lattices.

Hedgehog and antihedgehog spin textures in magnets behave as emergent monopoles and antimonopoles, which give rise to astonishing transport and electromagnetic phenomena. Using the Kondo-lattice model in three dimensions, we theoretically study collective spin-wave excitation modes of magnetic hedgehog lattices which have recently been discovered in itinerant magnets such as MnSi_{1-x}Ge_{x} and SrFeO_{3}. It is revealed that the spin-wave modes, which appear in the subterahertz regime, have dominant amplitudes localized at Dirac strings connecting hedgehog-antihedgehog pairs and are characterized by their translational oscillations. It is found that their spectral features sensitively depend on the number and configuration of the Dirac strings and, thus, can be exploited for identifying the topological phase transitions associated with the monopole-antimonopole pair annihilations.

Development of novel magnetorheological dampers with low-speed sensitivity for flying car suspensions

As urban traffic environments continue to grow in complexity, there is an urgent need for a versatile mode of transportation that seamlessly transitions between terrestrial and aerial mobility. In conventional magnetorheological damper (CMRD), the magnetorheological fluid flowing through the narrow annular gap between the piston and cylinder in CMRD results in a damping force directly proportional to velocity. As velocity increases, the damping force rises sharply, posing a significant risk to the vehicle’s mechanical structure and passenger safety. This velocity sensitivity restricts their applications primarily to standard commercial vehicle suspension systems. They face significant challenges when it comes to high-speed impact scenarios. To overcome this limitation, enhance the shock-absorbing capacity of flying cars, ensure passenger safety, and improve passenger comfort during the landing phase, this study introduces a novel magnetorheological damper (NMRD) with unique internal channel structure embedded in a circular permanent magnet. In road travel mode, NMRD maintains a wide dynamic range. During high-speed impact landing, when the impact force exceeds the threshold, the pressure relief channel opens, effectively reducing the peak impact force. This feature greatly expands the application range of magnetorheological dampers. The researches included simulations of the electromagnetic induction phenomenon within the piston, The pressure relief damping force inside the NMRD valve was accurately measured by using material testing system, the peak force and peak acceleration experienced by the two dampers during impact were tested using a dedicated drop hammer apparatus. These tests demonstrate that the NMRD exhibits superior impact resistance performance compared to CMRD. This highlights the promising potential for the NMRD’s application within the suspension systems of flying cars.

Point-charge models and averages for electromagnetic quantities considered in two relativistic inertial frames

Electromagnetic quantities at a spacetime point have tensor Lorentz transformations between relatively-moving inertial frames. However, since the Lorentz transformation of time between inertial frames depends upon both the time and space coordinates, averages of electrodynamic quantities at a single time will in general depend upon the inertial frame, and will differ between inertial frames. Here we illustrate how the use of continuous charge and current distributions rather than point-charge distributions can lead to physically mystifying and even inaccurate results for electromagnetic quantities and physical phenomena. The discrepancy noted between the average electric field values in different inertial frames is particularly striking because it is first order in the relatative velocity between the frames.

A new physical reservoir using the complex dynamics of electric fields in type-II superconductors containing pinning centers interacting with quantized magnetic flux lines

Reservoir computing, which takes advantage of physical phenomena with nonlinearities, is attracting a lot of attention. Therefore, it is expected to focus on superconductivity, a physical phenomenon with nonlinearities between the output electric field and the input current density. Compared to other physical phenomena used in reservoirs, it is considered that with superconductivity, the nonlinearity can easily be adjusted spatially by pin placement to produce dynamics suitable for reservoirs. The nonlinearity between the electric field generated by the motion of the quantized magnetic flux lines and the input current density was used to perform a reservoir computing task. Three waveform generation tasks, a NARMA2 task and a nonlinear-memory task were performed, and all tasks were generally successful. It was found that the electromagnetic phenomenon in superconductors can be used as a physical reservoir.

Proposal of angle detection method for concentrated winding bearingless motors with less magnetic interference due to current

AbstractThis paper proposes a method for detecting the angle of a bearingless motor with less magnetic interference due to the current. Bearingless motors have suspension windings and motor windings that generate leakage flux. Owing to this electromagnetic phenomenon, the signal of the linear Hall‐effect sensor for angle detection is disturbed, and it has to be avoided to place Hall sensors near the winding conventionally. To solve this interference problem, this paper clarifies the ideal combinations between sensor positions and the number of poles and slots of concentrated winding bearingless motors.
