Colorimetric/electrochemical dual mode detection ascorbic acid based Au@PdNi nanozyme

The low activity of nanozymes poses a significant scientific challenge, limiting their application. Developing noble metal-based nanozymes with high activity is considered as an effective strategy to address this issue. In this study, core–shell Au@PdNi nanozyme was synthesized by co-precipitating Pd2+ and Ni2+ on Au cores. The oxidase (OXD)-like property of Au@PdNi was thoroughly investigated, revealing a specific activity reaching 194.2 U mg−1. The high OXD-like activity was attributed to several factors elucidated through experimental analysis and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. Firstly, the core–shell structure of Au@PdNi provides a substantial surface area for catalytic reactions. Secondly, the presence of nickel enhances the current density of the material, augmenting its catalytic activity. Lastly, the electronic interplay between the Au core and the PdNi shell layer improves the binding and reaction kinetics with the target substrate. The Au@PdNi nanozyme demonstrates remarkable performances in colorimetric and electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid (AA), exhibiting high sensitivity and selectivity. Moreover, a portable electrochemical sensor was fabricated for the determination of AA in spiked fruit samples, demonstrating satisfactory recovery rates in real sample analysis.

Purpald-functionalized biosensor for simultaneous electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid, uric acid, L-cysteine and lipoic acid

The polymer purpald (4-amino-3-hydrazino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole) film on glassy carbon electrode (p-Purpald@GCE) was fabricated using purpald monomer by electropolymerization method, and the modified electrode was applied as a probe for the simultaneous sensing of ascorbic acid (AA), uric acid (UA), L-cysteine (L-Cys) and lipoic acid (LA). The modified p-Purpald@GCE was well characterized by Scanning electrode microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) techniques. CV, EIS results were confirmed the good electrocatayst nature of p-Purpald@GCE. Independent and simultaneous detection of AA, UA, L-Cys, and LA ware performed by DPV method. For Independent detection, based on the oxidation current changes, we have calculated the limit of detection (LOD) of 392, 137, 341 and 200 nM (LOD) = 3S/m) for AA, UA, L-Cys and LA, respectively. The simultaneous detection of AA, UA, L-Cys, and LA executed and LOD found to be 364, 132, 275 and 192 nM, respectively. The modified electrode shows the high selectivity towards AA, UA, L-Cys and LA even in the presence of high concentration of other interferences. The developed sensor technique will be useful for the sensitive and simultaneous detection of AA, UA, L-Cys, and LA in food and clinical samples.

An effective sensing platform composed of polyindole based ternary nanocomposites for electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid

The monitoring of ascorbic acid (AA), an essential dietary vitamin (Vitamin C) in the human body and its oxidative behavior has been studied in this work through a polymer based electrochemical sensor. The choice of polyindole (PIN), a conducting polymer, with the carbonaceous network or reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and silver nanoparticles (Ag) embedded in the matrix is shown to be an effective sensing material for the detection of ascorbic acid in a sample. The synthesized polymer nanocomposite (PIN/rGO/Ag) was characterized by structural, morphological and spectroscopic methods. The electro-oxidation of ascorbic acid to 3-dehydro ascorbic acid (DHA) was studied through cyclic voltammetry (CV), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The conditions of scan rate, pH and modifier concentration were optimized prior to sensing experiments. Using these optimal conditions, the ternary nanocomposite (PIN/rGO/Ag) exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity towards ascorbic acid in the linear range of 0.2–1 mM, with a sensitivity 2.93 μA/mM-cm2. The limit of detection (LOD) for ascorbic acid was calculated to be 1.5 μM, while an LOQ value of 5.2 μM was obtained. The presence of common interferents such as urea, glucose and dopamine did not affect the current response of the sensor towards the analyte of choice. The designed electrochemical sensor was found to be highly selective towards ascorbic acid, stable and giving reproducible results over many potential cycles.

Poly-Thionine/ SWCNT Nanocomposite Coated Electrochemical Sensor for Determination of Vitamin C

Background: The electrochemical sensors convert biological or chemical information, such as analyte concentration or a biomolecular (biochemical receptor) interaction, into electrical signals. In this paper, we describe the development of a poly-thionine/ single-walled carbon nanotube (P-Th/SWCNT) composite for the electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Methods: To improve electrochemical performance, we attempted to electro-polymerize the thionine monomers, an essential chemical building block, directly on the surface of singlewalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT). Results: Field Emission Scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) results revealed that a complex structure of the P-Th/SWCNT was formed. The presence of carbon (C), oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), and sulfur (S) components was confirmed, which indicated the effective fusion of poly-thionine onto SWCNT. Moreover, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the composite formation. Utilizing cyclic voltammetry, the composite's electrochemical behavior was examined. Conclusions: Excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of ascorbic acid was shown by the P-Th/SWCNT composite. The as-prepared P-Th/SWCNT composite-modified sensor can detect ascorbic acid in food, medical, and pharmaceutical samples.

In this research paper, the authors conducted a study on graphene oxide by directly ap plying it to the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using cyclic voltammetric techniques. This process resulted in a modified electrode called reduced graphene oxide modified electrode (ErGO/GCE). The electrochemical behavior of ErGO/GCE towards ascorbic acid (AAB) was investigated using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DP-ASV). The differential pulse voltammetry analysis results demonstrated that AAB could be detected with high selectivity and sensitivity on ErGO/GCE, exhibiting a peak at 0.312 V. The detection limits for AAB were found to be 0.36 µM, suggesting that ErGO/GCE is well-suited for detecting this analyte due to its excellent sensitivity and selectivity. Furthermore, the researchers successfully applied the proposed method to analyze AAB in pharmaceutical preparations.

Synthesis of cobalt phosphide hybrid for simultaneous electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid, dopamine, and uric acid.

Ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA) are important biomarkers for the clinical screening of diseases. However, the simultaneous determination of these three analytes is still challenging. Herein, we report a facile metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived method to synthesize a cobalt phosphide (Co2P) hybrid for the simultaneous electrochemical detection of AA, DA and UA. The introduction of highly dispersed Co2P nanoparticles onto a P, N-doped porous carbon matrix is responsible for providing abundant active sites and facilitating electron transfer, thereby contributing to the improved electrocatalytic performance of the hybrid. Well-resolved oxidation peaks and an enhanced current response for the simultaneous oxidation of AA, DA, and UA were achieved using a Co2P hybrid-modified screen-printed electrode (Co2P hybrid-SPE) with the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method. The detection limits for AA, DA, and UA in simultaneous detection were calculated as 17.80 μM, 0.018 μM, and 0.068 μM (S/N = 3), respectively. Furthermore, the feasibility of using Co2P hybrid-SPE for the simultaneous detection of AA, DA, and UA in real serum samples was also confirmed.

Metal-organic framework derived in-situ 3D porous CuS@carbon octahedron for enhanced electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid

Sensitive and reliable detection of the antioxidant ascorbic acid (AA) is crucial for biosensing and food safety applications. Herein, CuS/carbon composites (CuS@C-c) with porous octahedral structure were successfully fabricated by pre-carbonization and then sulfidation of the precursor Cu-MOF templates, which allowed for the in-situ encapsulation of CuS into the carbon matrix, simultaneously endowing the CuS@C-c with high conductivity and rigid structure protection. Benefiting from the unique structural features, the CuS@C-c displayed significantly improved electrochemical performance compared with hydrothermal disordered structural products (CuS@C-h). The CuS@C-c was employed for preparing the modified electrode and exhibited distinguished electrocatalytic oxidation of AA with a wide linear range of 0.1–1000.0 μmol/L and a low detection limit of 0.03 μmol/L, which could be attributed to synergistic contributions of CuS and carbon matrix, as well as their unique 3D open porous structure, which provided abundant accessible active sites and accelerating electron transfer. The developed electrode showed good anti-interference ability, long-term stability, and reproducibility and was able to efficiently detected AA contents in pharmaceuticals and human urine samples with acceptable recoveries.

Facile growth of single-phase perovskite CaRuO3 nanofibers as selective electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid

We report a facile synthesis of single-phase perovskite CaRuO3 nanofibers via electrospinning process followed by the thermal annealing for the sensitive detection of L-ascorbic acid (AA) for the first time. The structure of the obtained CaRuO3 nanofibers represents single-phase orthorhombic crystalline phase with the rough surface texture and the average diameter of 139 nm. The electrocatalytic activities of CaRuO3 nanofibers for AA oxidation were measured via linear sweep voltammetry and amperometric response in 0.05 M PBS containing 1 mM AA, resulting in high sensitivity of 290.4 μA mM−1 cm−2. CaRuO3 nanofibers could be thus utilized for analyzing AA selectively in various complex biological and/or physiological systems.

Development of a biodegradable microfluidic paper-based device for blood-plasma separation integrated with non-enzymatic electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid

In the present article, we developed an electrochemical microfluidic paper-based device (EμPAD) for the non-enzymatic detection of Ascorbic Acid (AA) concentration in plasma using whole human blood. We combined LF1 blood plasma separation membrane and Whatman grade 1 filter paper to separate plasma from whole blood through wax printing. A screen-printed electrode (SPE) was modified with spherical-shaped MgFe2O4 nanomaterial (n-MgF) to improve the catalytic properties of SPE. The n-MgF was prepared via hydrothermal method, and its material phase and morphology were confirmed via XRD, FTIR, TEM, SEM, and AFM analysis. The fabricated n-MgF/SPE/EμPAD exhibited detection of AA ranging from 0 to 80 μM. The obtained value of the detection limit, limit of quantification, sensitivity, and response time are 2.44 μM, 8.135 μM, 5.71 × 10−3 mA μM−1 cm−2, and 10 s, respectively. Our developed n-MgF/SPE/EμPAD shows marginal interference with the common analytes present in plasma, such as uric acid, glutamic acid, glucose, urea, lactic acid, and their mixtures. Overall, our low-cost, portable device with its user-friendly design and efficient plasma separation capability offers a practical and effective solution for estimating AA concentration from whole human blood in a single step.

Synthesis and Characterization of Ferric Vanadate Nanorods for Efficient Electrochemical Detection of Ascorbic Acid.

This study reports the synthesis of ferric vanadate (FeVO4) via a facile hydrothermal method, focusing on demonstrating its exceptional electrochemical (EC) properties on detecting low-density ascorbic acid (AA). The phase purity, crystallinity, structure, morphology, and chemical compositional properties were characterized by employing X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. EC impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques were also adopted in order to assess the EC response of a FeVO4-modified glassy carbon electrode for sensing AA at room temperature. The AA concentration range adopted in this experiment is 0.1-0.3 mM at a working electric potential of -0.13 V. The result showed functional excellence of this material for the EC determination of AA with good stability and reproducibility, promising its potentiality in connection with relevant sensing applications.

Electrodeposition of SnO2 nanostructures onto copper substrates and their electrochemical properties

Potentiostatic electrodeposition of SnO2 thin films from an oxygenated tin chloride bath on anodised copper substrates has been achieved at a bath temperature of 85 °C. At the bath temperature of 85 °C, the evolution of nanoplates, nanoparticles and nanocubes are observed. Aqueous battery and bio-sensing characteristics of the SnO2 nanostructures were assessed. The electrodes are cycled between –1 and +1 V in LiOH . H2O, Li2CO3 and Na2SO4 electrolyte solutions by cyclic voltammetry method. The test results exhibit that the nanocrystalline SnO2 anode is a proficient electrode material for the aqueous lithium battery. Electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid (AA) on the nanostructured SnO2 electrode has also been assessed and SnO2 nanocubes displayed eminent electro catalytic activity towards the oxidation of AA.

Construction of polyfluorinated azobenzene/niobate Type-B nanocomposite for simultaneous electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid and uric acid

Polyfluorinated azobenzene/niobate type-B nanocomposite (C3F7-azo+-Nb6O17) was synthesized using a traditional guest-guest exchange method. The structure, morphology and chemical composition characterization, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), indicated that C3F7-azo+ ions were inserted into [Nb6O17]4- laminates forming a bimolecular layer with an angel of 48.48°. Afterwards, the electrochemical performances of C3F7-azo+-Nb6O17/GCE were investigated by using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The consequences suggested that C3F7-azo+-Nb6O17/GCE could detect simultaneously AA and UA, and the detection limit of AA and UA were 3.64 and 1.36 μM, respectively. Furthermore, C3F7-azo+-Nb6O17/GCE had some good performances, such as reproducibility, stability and anti-interference.

Micelles self-degraded polypyrrole nanotube-cobalt oxide nanocomposite based electrochemical sensor for detection of Ascorbic acid

A novel micelles self-degraded Polypyrrole Nanotube-Cobalt Oxide (PPYNTs/Co3O4) nanocomposite has been synthesized by using In situ-polymerization and hydrothermal route and examined the performance of electrochemical sensor for detection of Ascorbic Acid. In this present work, Co3O4 sensing material plays an important role in detecting target analyte of Ascorbic acid due to cobalt oxide having a rich oxidation state of Co3+, Co2+ and conjugated PPYNTs bounded nitrogen group with amine and imine chain. This functional group makes easily adsorbs the analyte which may help to show high oxidation activity. The modified PPYNTs/Co3O4 GCE electrochemical detection of Ascorbic acid possesses a wide linear range from 5 μM to 80 μM, a low LOD of 0.23 μM, and exhibits a high sensitivity of 14.48 μA μM−1 cm−2 respectively. The PPYNTs/Co3O4 GCE electroactive material is highly favourable for the electrochemical detection of Ascorbic acid, and a developed sensor was used in real sample analysis, with ascorbic acid recoveries ranging from 100.72 % to 105.26 %, and an achieved RSD ranging between 0.94 % and 2.0 %.

Sea-urchin-structured NiCo2O4 decorated nitrogen-doped graphene for enhanced electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid

Developing high-performance electro-catalyst for detection of ascorbic acid is greatly desirable. A convenient and cost-effective route for the synthesis of sea-urchin-structured NiCo2O4 decorated nitrogen-doped graphene was demonstrated. The morphology, composition, and electrochemical properties of the obtained products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. The electrocatalytic behaviors of sea-urchin-structured NiCo2O4 decorated nitrogen-doped graphene-modified glass carbon electrodes were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The as-prepared electrode exhibited distinguished electrocatalytic oxidation of ascorbic acid. The linear response relationship for ascorbic acid was obtained ranging from 2.0 μM to 6 mM with a rapid response time of less than 2 s and a low detection of the limit of 0.39 μM (signal/noise = 3), which could be attributed to the high conductivity, high electroactivity for electrocatalytic oxidation of ascorbic acid, as well as high specific surface area of sea-urchin-structured NiCo2O4 decorated nitrogen-doped graphene. In addition, the modified electrode showed good anti-interference ability, long-term stability, and high reproducibility. The excellent electrocatalytic behavior of sea-urchin-structured NiCo2O4 decorated nitrogen-doped graphene may make it promising for applications in electrochemical analysis.

MnFe2O4/MoS2 nanocomposite as Oxidase-like for electrochemical simultaneous detection of ascorbic acid, dopamine and uric acid

In this paper, we adopt a one-pot solvothermal synthesis method to prepare MnFe2O4/MoS2 nanocomposite (MMF) as an artificial enzyme for simultaneous electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) by screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE). The exfoliated MoS2 surface contains numerous S defects and the spinel MnFe2O4 possesses non-homogeneous catalystic properties, high abundance of oxygen vacancies and surface. It provides high adsorption properties through the replacement of cations with large amounts of active clusters on the surface of nano-impurity composites, as well as the high surface activity of MoS2. Finally, we found that MMF can effectively and sensitively detect AA, DA and UA, and the peak current increases significantly in a certain scanning speed range. The electrochemical sensing performance of the synthetic nanocomposite for the analytes was better than that of individually synthesized MoS2 and MnFe2O4, respectively. The obtained limit of detection (LOD) of MMF for AA, DA and UA were 0.17 mM, 0.41 μM and 0.14 μM, respectively. In addition, the LOD for simultaneous detection of AA, DA and UA were as low as 0.90 mM, 0.16 μM and 3.05 μM, respectively. The prepared MMF showed good anti-interference ability and reproducibility for the analytes sensing.

Electrochemical Detection of Ascorbic Acid in Oranges at MWCNT-AONP Nanocomposite Fabricated Electrode.

Ascorbic acid (AA) is an essential vitamin in the body, influencing collagen formation, as well as norepinephrine, folic acids, tryptophan, tyrosine, lysine, and neuronal hormone metabolism. This work reports on electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid (AA) in oranges using screen-print carbon electrodes (SPCEs) fabricated with multi-walled carbon nanotube- antimony oxide nanoparticle (MWCNT-AONP) nanocomposite. The nanocomposite-modified electrode displayed enhanced electron transfer and a better electrocatalytic reaction towards AA compared to other fabricated electrodes. The current response at the nanocomposite-modified electrode was four times bigger than the bare electrode. The sensitivity and limit of detection (LOD) at the nanocomposite modified electrode was 0.3663 [AA]/µM and 140 nM, respectively, with linearity from 0.16–0.640 μM and regression value R2 = 0.985, using square wave voltammetry (SWV) for AA detection. Two well-separated oxidation peaks were observed in a mixed system containing AA and serotonin (5-HT); and the sensitivity and LOD were 0.0224 [AA]/µA, and 5.85 µΜ, respectively, with a concentration range from 23 to 100 µM (R2 = 0.9969) for AA detection. The proposed sensor outperformed other AA sensors reported in the literature. The fabricated electrode showed great applicability with excellent recoveries ranging from 99 to 107 %, with a mean relative standard deviation (RSD) value of 3.52 % (n = 3) towards detecting AA in fresh oranges.
