Assessment of the Potential and Prospects for the Development of High-Technology and Medium-High-Technology Types of Industrial Activities in Ukraine

The main ideas about modern technological innovations, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, global value chains, and the role of high-technology and medium-high-technology types of industrial activities in the process of technological transformation of the world economy are highlighted. An assessment of the potential and prospects for development of high-technology and medium-high-technology types of industrial activities in Ukraine are completed from the standpoint of the relationship between investment activity and the level of production as a prerequisite for increasing the technological level of the national economy and its integration into global value chains on a more profitable basis in modern and post-war conditions. Based on the analysis of the level of expenses that enterprises invest in the modernization and acquisition of tangible and intangible assets, it is concluded that the production and technological potential of high- and medium-high-tech branches of the industry in the pre-war period was increased, and it was found that their priority is capital investment in machines and equipment, and capital investments into intangible assets are financed according to the residual principle. It is determined that the manufacturers of pharmaceutical products and preparations, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, and other vehicles have the highest production productivity, which indicates the competitiveness of the products manufactured by them and their importance for the national industrial sector. Critical Factors and their Correlation Affecting Green Industry Performance: Evidences from Small and Medium Enterprises

Large companies have achieved excellent progress toward green production while small and medium enterprises (SMEs) showed limited progress. This research aims to investigate key factors affect different stages of enhancing green industry implementation particularly in SMEs. This study conducted a systematic analysis to offer recommendations to unlock the inhibitors of the green industry. The electronic products and electrical equipment manufacturing industry in Thailand was chosen as a case study. Questionnaires is the main approaches to collect primary data from SMEs. The structural equation model is developed to examine correlation and the degree of influencing factors. The model indicated that the latent factors’ influence on the decision-making of SMEs in applying the green industry reflected by the influence of eighteen observable variables and it suggests that the external contexts from stakeholder have a greater influence on the decision-making than the internal context as organizational resources and capabilities. Whereas the level of certification conform with green industry criteria has minor correlation with the decision-making of SMEs. Innovative policy strategy is recommended to create synergy between incentive-based instruments in term of product charges or product tax, subsidies and voluntary measure as product certification are recommended tools to enhance green industry adoption by SMEs.

Research on System Development and Application of Electrical Equipment Intelligent IoT Platform

With the increasingly development of the new information and communication technologies, China has proposed the integration of new information technology, electrical equipment, and intelligent Internet of Thing (IoT) system to accelerate the innovative development of the manufacturing industry. However, the information isolation and data scattering cause the poor services of electrical equipment. Aiming at the question, the preliminary construction of electrical equipment intelligent IoT Platform (EIP) is carried out in this article through system analysis and system design, which helps enterprises to improve the quality of manufacturing, realizing the transformation and upgrading and healthy development of the enterprise. At the same time, through the accumulation of heavy and complicated IoT big data, the quality evaluation and total life cycle management of electrical equipment are strongly supported to enhance the level of supply chain operations management, which lays a more solid foundation for the electrical equipment manufacturing industry to enhance the core competitiveness and for China to accelerate the realization of high-quality development by the intelligent manufacturing.

The lead burden of occupational lead-exposed workers in Guangzhou, China: 2006–2019

We analyzed the lead levels in blood and urine from lead-exposed workers in Guangzhou and assessed the influencing factors. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and the time-dependent changes were mapped via analytical statistics. Although the lead burden showed a clear downward trend over time, it remained high among the exposed workers. The highest lead burden was detected in workers of the electrical equipment manufacturing industry, especially among those in lead-acid battery factories where we did field studies. Hazardous as the working conditions of the original lead-acid battery factories were, there were improvements in the applications of occupational disease prevention measures after the relocation of factories, but the lead burdens were still above the average levels of lead-related industries. Improvements are needed in the management and regulations on occupational safety and health to further decrease the lead burden to acceptable levels.

China’s electrical equipment manufacturing in the global value chain: A GVC income analysis based on World Input-Output Database (WIOD)

This paper empirically analyzes China’s electrical equipment manufacturing industry in the context of global value chain (GVC) by using the GVC income approach and the World Input-Output Database (WIOD). Four major questions are addressed by measuring several different indicators. China is found to have comparative advantage and competitiveness in terms of its large share of value added contribution in the world electrical equipment manufacturing industry. However, such competitiveness is not sustainable. The paper also finds that the global financial crisis did have certain impact on the electrical equipment GVCs in general, but the impact is not necessarily negative and big.

Dividend Policy and Firm Valuation—A Study of Indian Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Industry

Dividend policy relevance has been researched extensively, but little consensus has been built from the findings. There are many factors that affect a given firm’s dividend policy which can be found in the literature such as risk faced by the firm, cash flow situation of the firm, agency costs etc. According to Bhattacharya (1979) dividend decision of a firm can be seen as a source of signal which shows that profitable firms with good project investment opportunities will pay higher dividends to present themselves distinct from other firms which are having projects with lesser profits. This paper attempts to analyze whether the dividend policy of a firm affects the market value of a firm and the shareholders’ wealth. We have set our objective to find out the impact of dividend policy on the shareholders’ wealth in the Indian electrical equipment manufacturing industry. For this, we have adopted a sample of dividend paying electrical machinery manufacturing companies listed in Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). There were totally 439 companies in the industry of electrical machinery manufacturing. Out of them 194 companies were listed in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and there were 72 companies paying dividends frequently. Therefore the data of these 72 companies were taken into consideration. Our study revealed the empirical evidence with some of the dividend irrelevance theories such as M&M. The results indicate that there is a negative non-linear association between market value of a share and the dividend yields.

China's Electrical Equipment Manufacturing in the Global Value Chain: A GVC Income Analysis Based on World Input-Output Database (WIOD)

This paper empirically analyzes China’s electrical equipment manufacturing industry in the context of global value chain (GVC) by using the GVC income approach (Timmer et al., 2013) and the World Input-Output Database (WIOD). Four major questions are addressed by measuring several different indicators. China is found to have comparative advantage and competitiveness in terms of its large share of value added contribution in the world electrical equipment manufacturing industry. However, such competitiveness is not sustainable for two reasons: (1) China is actually a net value added importer, which limits its dominance and development in this industry; (2) the majority of China’s GVC income comes from capital investment rather than high-skilled or valuable activities, which means the competitiveness is easy to be taken over as physical capital is more “mobile” than human capital. The paper also finds that the global financial crisis (GFC) did have certain impact on the electrical equipment GVCs in general, but the impact is not necessarily negative and big for each economy. For China, the GFC led to a decrease in the average real wage in this industry due to the decreasing high-skilled labor compensation share and the increasing low-skilled one. The analysis also implies that to upgrade the China’s position in the electrical equipment manufacturing GVC may ultimately mean upgrading the agriculture sector such that more labor can be engaged in medium- and high-skilled activities.

Driving new product success in the electrical equipment manufacturing industry

This study of the Electrical Equipment Manufacturing Industry investigates three major hypotheses important to new product market success which are: The greater the degree of organizational integration during the development of new products, the greater the market success; the greater the degree of organizational integration during the development of new products, the greater new product development proficiency; and the greater new product development proficiency, the greater the market success. The most and least successful new products of US firms in the electrical equipment manufacturing industry were employed in this research. Our definition of “Organizational Integration” is the degree of cooperation and communication between internal and external new product development (NPD) “support” groups and NPD teams. “NPD Process Proficiency” is defined as how well NPD activities, stages, and the NPD process as a whole are performed. “New product market success” is depicted by four measures that encompass profit expectations, sales potential, success entering new markets, and entering existing markets with new products successfully. Our study is based on data obtained from survey instruments mailed to recipients such as New Product Development Managers who had already been designated by executives of our sample organizations. Our research reveals a number of interesting findings. Overall organizational integration between NPD teams and all other groups associated with an NPD effort was found to have a significant association with new product success. Moreover, it was determined that organizational integration has a significant correlation to the proficiency with which the various stages of the NPD process are performed. Additionally, the proficiency with which various stages of the NPD process were performed was noted to have a significant relationship with new product market success. Our study discovered a number of other findings that suggest important implications for both product development managers and scholars.

Does Trust Matter? Exploring the Effects of Interorganizational and Interpersonal Trust on Performance

A conceptual challenge in exploring the role of trust in interorganizational exchange is translating an inherently individual-level concept—trust—to the organizational-level outcome of performance. We define interpersonal and interorganizational trust as distinct constructs and draw on theories of interorganizational relations to derive a model of exchange performance. Specifically, we investigate the role of trust in interfirm exchange at two levels of analysis and assess its effects on negotiation costs, conflict, and ultimately performance. Propositions were tested with data from a sample of 107 buyer-supplier interfirm relationships in the electrical equipment manufacturing industry using a structural equation model. The results indicate that interpersonal and interorganizational trust are related but distinct constructs, and play different roles in affecting negotiation processes and exchange performance. Further, the hypotheses linking trust to performance receive some support, although the precise nature of the link is somewhat different than initially proposed. Overall, the results show that trust in interorganizational exchange relations clearly matters.
