Optimal Scheduling of Integrated Energy System Considering Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station and Multiple Uncertainties

In recent years, there has been rapid advancement in new energy technologies aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas emissions stemming from fossil fuels. Nonetheless, uncertainties persist in both the power output of new energy sources and load. To effectively harness the economic and operational potential of an Integrated Energy System (IES), this paper introduces an enhanced uncertainty set. This set incorporates N-1 contingency considerations and the nuances of source–load distribution. This framework is applied to a robust optimization model for an Electric Vehicle Integrated Energy System (EV-IES), which includes Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station (EVBSS). Firstly, this paper establishes an IES model of the EVBSS, and then proceeds to classifies and schedules the large-scale battery groups within these stations. Secondly, this paper proposes an enhanced uncertainty set to account for the operational status of multiple units in the system. It also considers the output characteristics of both new energy sources and loads. Additionally, it takes into consideration the N-1 contingency state and multi-interval distribution characteristics. Subsequently, a multi-time-scale optimal scheduling model is established with the objective of minimizing the total cost of the IES. The day-ahead robust optimization fully considers the multivariate uncertainty of the IES. The solution employs the Nested Column and Constraint Generation (C&CG) algorithm, based on the distribution characteristics of multiple discrete variables in the model. The intraday optimal scheduling reallocates the power of each unit based on the robust optimization results from the day-ahead scheduling. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively reduces the conservatism of the uncertainty set, ensuring economic and stable operation of the EV-IES while meeting the demands of electric vehicle users.

Bilevel planning of electric vehicle charging station and battery swapping station considering real-time uncertainty

The placement of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCS) and battery swapping stations (BSS) is crucial to meet demand while minimizing their impact on the power system network. This article addresses the placement and scheduling of EVCS and BSS within a radial distribution network (RDN) overlaid with a road network. Electric Vehicle Routing Problem (EVRP) and Traffic Assignment Problem (TAP) is introduced to reduce EV energy consumption during trips to EVCS and BSS. A Bi-layer optimization approach is used, with the outer layer minimizing energy loss by allocating EVCS and BSS optimally, and the inner layer optimizing scheduling considering associated costs. Uncertainties related to EV is considered on a real-time trip basis and modelled using 2m-Point estimation method. The problem is solved using Differential Evolution (DE) and Prairie Dog Optimization (PDO) techniques. PDO results in a 9.6% reduction in total energy losses and a 22.5% decrease in total associated costs by optimally placing EVCS at 69, 25,114 and BSS at 19, 84,113 of the RDN compared to DE. Inclusion of 2-m PEM uncertainty increases total energy loss by 8.76% but decreases total associated costs by 6.97% compared to real-time uncertainty cases, enhancing the realism of the results.

An operational scheduling framework for Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station under demand uncertainty

This paper proposes a novel mathematical optimization model aimed at incorporating demand response strategies in the operational scheduling problem of Electric Vehicle (EV) Battery Swapping Stations (BSS). The primary goal of the model is to minimize the operational costs while accounting for intricacies arising from diverse charging modes, variations in battery capacities, charger availability, different states of charges (SOC) of incoming discharged batteries, time-of-use power prices, power constraints and fluctuating customer demand patterns. Furthermore, the model takes into consideration the effect of faster charging modes on battery health to ensure a sustainable operation. The proposed model is further extended to incorporate the effect of swapping demand uncertainty on the operational decision-making of the BSS, and a two-stage stochastic optimization model with a recourse approach is proposed. The proposed stochastic optimization model is tested with relevant case studies, and the results demonstrate the efficacy of the model in providing a risk-neutral solution by determining the optimal demand satisfaction pattern and calculating the number of additional batteries needed to minimize demand shortfalls across all scenarios. The proposed scheduling framework holds the promise of improving both the efficiency of the BSS operations and customer satisfaction, paving the way for accelerated EV adoption.

Business Model Innovation of Off Grid Public Electric Vehicles Battery Swap Station with Solar Powered

Energy transition is Indonesia's national agenda to maintain energy security and realize the use of green energy. The use of electric vehicles (EVs) is one strategy to maintain primary energy security and support the reduction of carbon emissions. To support the growth of the EV ecosystem, Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swap Stations (Stasiun Penukaran Baterai Kendaraan Listrik Umum, SPBKLU) have been developed and installed in several locations. Currently, SPBKLU still uses electricity sources from the PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara, Indonesia’s electricity state-owned company) grid, where the majority of the PLN grid itself still relies on gas and coal power plants. Hence, this work proposed a PV-powered battery swap station and presented the Business Model Canvas and financial and SWOT analysis. Two business model schemes are proposed, the BPCOSP (Battery Provider, Cabinet Owner, Solar PV Provider) and BPCOSL (Battery Provider, Cabinet Owner, Solar PV Lease) schemes. From these two business schemes, the results of the financial feasibility analysis for the SPBKLU swap rate were obtained at IDR 18,241 for the BPCOSP scheme and IDR 21,500 for the BPCOSL scheme. From a SWOT analysis perspective, the BPCOSP and BPCOSL business schemes have the opportunity to increase the Solar PV business value chain and support government programs in achieving Net Zero Emissions. However, there are still weaknesses in terms of tariffs which are still not economical compared to the fuel costs of conventional two-wheeled vehicles and the current SPBKLU swap tariff which still uses electricity from the PLN grid.

A study on the demographic differences in visual impact assessments of the external space of electric vehicle battery swapping stations

The construction of electric vehicle (EV) battery swapping stations (BSS), which exerts an increasingly significant impact on urban landscapes. In addition, the external space of BSS is an important means to display corporate image and brand publicity. In this experiment, a sample of nine representative BSS in China, characterized by diverse architectural forms, was selected for the examination of their exterior spaces. The study focused on the physical factors of the BSS, specifically the exterior contour, number and position of entrances, façade material, height-width ratio of front elevation, logo area ratio, and hue as key factors under investigation. Meanwhile, five demographic features, namely, gender, age, education level, EV owner or potential owner, and income level, were set as variables to study the influence of the six physical factors of external space on people's visual impact assessment. The photo stimulation method was used in this experiment. The results show that the above six physical factors affect people's visual impact assessment of the external space of BSS, and people with different demographic features render different visual impact assessments. Therefore, we propose several design recommendations for BSS exterior spaces. In BSS exterior space design, greater consideration should be given to using vertical facade aspect ratios between 1/3 and 1/2, facades combining metal and glass, smaller logo area proportions, and designs combining warm and neutral color tones to meet the visual preferences of a broader audience. Different exterior design schemes should also be adopted when BSSs are targeted at different primary user groups.

Optimal Priority Rule-Enhanced Deep Reinforcement Learning for Charging Scheduling in an Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station

For a battery swapping station (BSS) with solar generation, N charging bays, and an inventory of M batteries, we study the charging scheduling problem under random EV arrivals, renewable generation, and electricity prices. To minimize the expected weighted sum of charging cost (sum of electricity and battery degradation costs) and EV owners’ waiting cost, we formulate the problem as a Markov decision process with unknown state transition probability. Under a mild heavy-traffic assumption, we rigorously establish the optimality of the Less Demand First (LDF) priority rule under arbitrary system dynamics: batteries with less demand shall be charged first. The optimality result enables us to integrate the LDF rule into a state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method, proximal policy optimization (PPO), reducing the dimensionality of its output from O(M+N) to O(1), without loss of optimality in the heavy-traffic scenario. Numerical results (on real-world data) demonstrate that the proposed LDF enhanced PPO approach significantly outperforms classical DRL methods and FCFS (first come, first served) priority rule based DRL counterparts.

A secure system for electric vehicle battery swap stations using blockchain

As electric vehicles become more popular, battery swap stations are gaining attention as a new type of charging facility. However, the charging process for electric vehicles involves privacy information such as user location and charging mode, which can be easily stolen or leaked, posing security risks and personal privacy concerns for users. Therefore, protecting the privacy of electric vehicle battery swap station users has become an important issue. This paper aims to study a privacy protection system for electric vehicle battery swap stations using blockchain technology. First, the basic principles and application scenarios of blockchain technology are introduced. Second, potential privacy leaks in electric vehicle battery swap stations are analysed, and a privacy protection scheme based on blockchain is proposed, including anonymous identity authentication, zero-knowledge proof, and encrypted communication. Third, a blockchain-based privacy protection system for electric vehicle battery swap stations is designed and implemented, and its performance is experimentally evaluated and compared with traditional privacy protection schemes in terms of security and efficiency. This paper demonstrates that the blockchain-based privacy protection scheme for electric vehicle battery swap stations possesses high levels of security and reliability, effectively safeguarding users' privacy information. Furthermore, this scheme exhibits promising application prospects and potential for widespread adoption. With the continuous development and utilization of blockchain technology, the privacy protection scheme for electric vehicle battery swap stations using blockchain is expected to provide users with more secure, reliable, and convenient charging services.

Application of Improved Sparrow Search Algorithm in Electric Battery Swapping Station Switching Dispatching

The demand for power exchange has risen dramatically as the number of electric vehicle (EV) users has increased, and large-scale disorderly charging will increase the operating costs of battery swapping stations and increase the risk to the power grid. Through experimental comparison with other algorithms on 23 test functions, the results demonstrate that the convergence accuracy and speed of this improved algorithm are superior to those of other algorithms. Furthermore, in solving the optimization problem of EV battery swapping station scheduling, by reasonably allocating the battery pack charging time and establishing the forecasting model of switching demand, the average variance and peak-to-average ratio of the grid are reduced by 29.55% and 13.2%, respectively, based on meeting the user's switching demand. Approximately a 12,500 RMB reduction in the cost of charging lowers the operation cost and risk of battery swapping stations and enhances the user experience.

Techno-Economic Framework for Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Stations

Electric vehicle (EV) battery swapping stations (BSWS) are an important aid in rapid transport electrification, especially in developing countries where per capita income is low and expensive battery prices discourage EV penetration. Consequently, a BSWS model, where the BSWS owns the battery, can help in EV penetration and rapid transport electrification. This paper presents a new EV BSWS model to obtain a suitable trade-off between swapping time and the quality of battery health indicators. The state of charge (SOC), battery abuse, and battery degradation are measured/estimated online, while the state of health (SOH) is determined offline. The cost of the swapping cycle is determined by considering multiple cost components and penalties. The modeling approach not only enables determining a fair and affordable price for each swapping cycle for EVs but also helps to keep a check on the battery’s SOH and remaining useful life (RUL) during swapping without significantly increasing the battery swapping times compared to the average refueling time of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The swapping cost of the BSWS model is also compared with home and commercial charging station (HCS & CCS) models under different assumptions. The analysis suggests that the battery can be swapped in 6 minutes for light vehicles, comparable to the complete tank refueling of ICE vehicles. Moreover, with appropriate consideration of electric vehicle opportunity profit (EVOP), the BSWS remains feasible compared to HCS and CCS even at a high-profit margin of 750%. Also, battery degradation is considered using the economic model’s degradation cost component, and its link with different SOC strategies is explored. Again, results suggest that SOC strategies can be a helpful way for BSWS to maximize battery life and increase its profits. Moreover, considering EVOP along with battery degradation and SOC strategies further highlights the feasibility of BSWS.

Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah kurangnya pemahaman pegawai terhadap budaya organisasi sehingga mempengaruhi kinerja pegawai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh budaya organisasi dan kepemimpinan terhadap kinerja pegawai Pengadilan Agama Serang Provinsi Banten. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey, untuk mendiskripsikan distribusi sampel berdasarkan variabel tunggal dan untuk menjajaki adanya pengaruh antar variabel. Populasi penelitian ini adalah pegawai Pengadilan Agama Serang Provinsi Banten berjumlah 50 orang pegawai. Jumlah sampel yang diambil sebanyak 24 pegawai diambil dengan metode total sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrument penelitian dalam bentuk kuesioner yang dituangkan dalam pertanyaan-pertanyaan, masing-masing diberikan alternative jawaban berdasarkan metode likert. Untuk menguji hipotesis penelitian digunakan analisa statistik deskriptif dan analisis statistik korelasi dan regrersi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Budaya organisasi mempunyai pengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja pegawai (2) Kepemimpinan mempunyai pengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja pegawai (3) Budaya organisasi dan kepemimpinan secara bersama-sama mempunyai pengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja pegawai.

Risk Assessment of Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station (SPBKLU)

The use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in recent years has become an alternative for people to switch to environmentally friendly technology. Exhaust emissions from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) vehicle which play a big role in air pollution are one of the strong reasons for people to switch. However, one of the main challenges faced when using EVs widely is the limited range and long battery charging times. The existence of limited electric vehicle infrastructure is also an obstacle to the sustainability of the use of EVs for daily activities. Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station/Stasiun Penukaran Baterai Kendaraan Listrik Umum (SPBKLU) are one of the potential solutions to this problem that allow EV owners to quickly swap out their depleted batteries for fully charged ones. This research study aims to determine the potential risks that can arise in the development process of the Public Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station (SPBKLU) as a solution to the limited range and charging time of battery – based electric motor vehicles. The data collection method was carried out through interviews and surveys to 3 respondents from divisions/units who are owners of business processes related to the SPBKLU project. A comprehensive risk assessment through risk management assessment is carried out on the strategic, financial, operational, project and compliance aspects of this technology. The risks that have been identified are then evaluated and prioritized to then be able to make a mitigation plan in reducing the level of risk to reach the level of corporate risk appetite. The results of the risk assessment identified 16 (sixteen) risks with different levels of risk as follows, there is 2 (two) risks at the Extreme level, 3 (three) risks at the Very High level, 9 (nine) risks at the High level, and 2 (two) risks at the Moderate level. Based on the Risk Appetite level of PT PLN (Persero), only 2 (two) risks that are at the Moderate level will be accepted. Meanwhile, for the other 14 (fourteen) risks, a mitigation plan will be carried out to lower the risk level to a Moderate/ Low level. The mitigation plan that will be carried out is prepared in the form of an action plan that the implementation process will be monitored according to the scheduled timeline.

Optimal selection of sustainable battery supplier for electric vehicle battery swapping station

ABSTRACT The problems faced in the electric vehicle (EV) charging station like time consumption and limited space can be overcome by battery swapping station (BSS), which not only saves time but also reduces the range anxiety problem among the users of EV. Batteries are the backbone of EV as it is power supply and essential to run the vehicle. Total price of EV has a good share in the form of battery, thus impacting a lot in the EV industry. Therefore, this paper presents a methodology for the selection of a sustainable battery supplier for BSS using fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method. Firstly, four main criteria segregated into 12 supplementary criteria are identified considering several requirements for BSS. To cope with the uncertainty in the decision-making process, triangular fuzzy number (TFN) has been implemented. The TFNs give the relative weights among the considered criterion, and to make this framework more customer-centric, quality function deployment (QFD) is implemented, leading to final weights of the criteria. The obtained results give the hierarchy of the criteria, and top five weights after implementing the QFD methodology are as follows: battery price (0.2313), innovation ability (0.2188), safety assurance (0.12135), financial condition (0.1119), and cost of transportation (0.066). Subsequently, integrating fuzzy with complex-proportional assessment of alternatives (COPRAS) leads to rank the alternatives. As a case study, Kolkata city of India is chosen to demonstrate a viable selection. It was found that supplier based on Kolkata Municipal Corporation is the topmost priority, followed by North 24 Parganas, eastern part of Howrah, and South 24 Parganas, with the relative significance value of 0.3305, 0.2575, 0.2540, and 0.1578, respectively. This paper reveals an approach to the stakeholders for accessing the sustainable battery supplier of BSS choosing the most significant one.

Optimal allocation of electric vehicle charging stations and renewable distributed generation with battery energy storage in radial distribution system considering time sequence characteristics of generation and load demand

The addition of electric vehicle (EV) charging station (EVCS)/EV battery swapping stations (EVBSSs) in radial distribution system (RDS) draws extra real power from the distribution substation. This paper proffers a novel strategy for obtaining the best location of EVCS/EVBSSs in the RDS. Further, the EV charger has been modeled as constant current load and the influence of EVCS/EVBSSs demand on the voltage profile, real power loss, total voltage deviation, energy loss cost and overall operating cost of the RDS have been investigated considering constant power (CP), industrial (IL), residential (RES) and commercial (COM) load models. In order to make the network more self-sustainable and reliable, it is obligatory to assimilate the distributed generations (DGs) of optimal size and at proper location in the RDS to diminish the impact of EVCS/EVBSS(s) load. In addition, non-dispatchable solar photovoltaic (SPV) and wind turbine (WT) units are converted into a dispactable SPV and WT units with a combination of battery energy storage (BES) (i.e., SPV-BES and WT-BES). This research work suggests a novel chaotic student psychology based optimization (SPBO) (CSPBO) algorithm to acquire the optimal size and site of SPV-BES, WT-BES and biomass in IEEE 33-bus and practical Brazil 136-bus RDS for CP, IL, RES and COM load models considering the average hourly load demand profile and the average hourly variation in generation profile of SPV and WT. The obtained results based on benchmark test problems reveals that chaotic maps are proficient to enhance the performance of the SPBO algorithm significantly in terms of local optima circumvention and faster convergence mobility. The obtained outcomes show that the attained size and site of renewable DGs in the RDS may be feasible ones. The attained outcomes of the proffered CSPBO algorithm are contrasted to SPBO and Harris hawk's optimization algorithm. The yielded results will definitely help the EV and distribution industry in improving the reliability and the efficiency of the system.

Joint planning of electric vehicle battery swapping stations and distribution grid with centralized charging

This paper presents a framework for optimal planning of battery swapping stations (BSS) in centralized charging mode. In this mode, the batteries are charged at a central charging station (CCS). Then they will be distributed among BSSs. Moreover, there is no charging equipment at BSSs, and depleted batteries are returned to the CCS to recharge. In this context, firstly, a probabilistic model is developed to estimate the power consumption profile of the CCS. Then, a planning framework comprised of linear and nonlinear parts is introduced to minimize the total investment and operation costs. In the linear part, a binary integer linear programing (BILP) model is proposed to determine the optimal place and grade of BSSs, considering the investment cost of BSSs as well as the batteries transportation costs. In the nonlinear part, which is solved by genetic algorithm (GA), a model is developed to find out which branches of the distribution network need to be reinforced to minimize the network reinforcement and energy loss costs. The developed models are implemented on the IEEE 69-bus network, and the results are examined under different scenarios. The obtained results verify the efficiency of the developed models.

Multiobjective optimal operation strategy for electric vehicle battery swapping station considering battery degradation

The study aims to analyze a futuristic view of the automobile industry conducive to the much-needed penetration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as per the current environmental and economic scenario. The study suggests the roll-out of EVs in tandem with the supporting Charging Infrastructure, which is a prerequisite for adopting the former. Although transport electrification is a much-accentuated and researched solution to the deteriorating environment and plummeting conventional resources, the design, production, manufacturing, use, degradation, and disposal of an exponential number of lithium-ion batteries for the same have environmental, economic, and social impacts. Thus, emphasis has been made on the sustainable use of charging infrastructure that curbs unnecessary and early battery aging from fast charging technology. Battery swap requests at a Battery Swapping Station (BSS) can be served via batteries from either available battery stock or by charging previously incoming discharged batteries. The study suggests an optimal strategy for the same via a mathematical model representing the operation cost of a BSS consisting of three components, namely, cost of battery utilization, damage cost associated with different charging methods, and dynamic electricity cost. The solution to the multiobjective optimization problem gave the optimum number of batteries that should be used from the battery stock and the charging decision for incoming discharged batteries, given the possible charging options and the constraints on demand satisfaction. Finally, the results from two different optimization tools, Solver in MS Excel and Lingo software, were compared.

Robust location and sizing of electric vehicle battery swapping stations considering users’ choice behaviors

Battery swapping electric vehicle (EV) is an effective way to achieve vehicle electrification due to its advantage in reducing the waiting time and the upfront purchase cost, and alleviating users’ range anxiety. This paper proposes a robust battery swapping stations location and sizing model for the EV battery swapping service network design problem considering the users’ choice behaviors. Specifically, this paper develops a multinomial logit model to characterize the interaction between the service provider’s decisions and the EV users’ choice, and derives closed-form results for the sizing decisions to satisfy the pre-specified service level criteria by utilizing the distributionally robust chance constraint method and GI∖G∖m queueing model. This paper develops an equivalent mixed integer second-order cone programming (SOCP) reformulation and a generalized Benders decomposition algorithm with speedup strategies to solve the non-convex robust model efficiently. We extend the proposed model to consider the power network constraints, and propose a data-driven algorithm to estimate EV users’ swapping demands from traffic network data. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art Gurobi solver in terms of run time and solution quality. This paper conducts a case study using real-world data to examine the influence of EV users’ choice behavior, service levels, charging rate, and battery swapping service rate on the optimal decisions and the expected profit, and presents useful managerial implications for practitioners.

Multistakeholder Planning and Operational Strategy for Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Stations

To have sustainable battery swapping stations (BSSs), a multistakeholder planning and operational strategy is proposed that involves BSS owners, electric vehicle (EV) drivers, and power-distributing company (DisCo) operators. A multiobjective bilevel optimization approach is used based on the flexible load linking the embedded optimization of DisCo operators and the outer optimizations of the BSS owners and EV drivers. BSS owners and EV drivers optimize their swapping and shifting visit decisions based on tradeoffs in the multiobjective framework. In addition, the strategy embeds the network-constrained allowed power decisions of DisCo operators. Case studies have been investigated such as shifting station visits, network constraints, and profit-sharing. For the Australian case scenario, cooperation between these stakeholders led to varied flexible load and power generation responses. The case studies have demonstrated the utility of the proposed multistakeholder approach.

Incentive Compensation Mechanism for the Infrastructure Construction of Electric Vehicle Battery Swapping Station under Asymmetric Information

Driven by the application and promotion of the electric vehicle battery swapping station (BSS), this paper addresses a key challenge in the BSS’s infrastructure construction, which is information asymmetry between the government and BSS. First, inspired by the insights of financial contracting, this study constructs the government’s capital allocation and compensation models for the BSS via the principal–agent approach. This paper is the first developing an incentive-compatible (IC) compensation mechanism for improving the operation of BSS in the presence of two kinds of asymmetric information (operation level and effort level). Next, this paper derives the government and BSS’s equilibrium strategies under two scenarios of symmetry and asymmetry information, respectively. Finally, this paper compares the equilibrium solutions obtained in the above two scenarios to verify the effectiveness of the allocation scheme and compensation mechanism. This paper finds that the capital allocation scheme and compensation mechanism proposed in this paper can incentivize the BSS to report its actual operation level and take the corresponding effort level. Moreover, the government and BSS’s underinvestment problems become smaller when the BSS’s operation level is relatively high. Several important managerial insights are derived based on our analytical and numerical results.
