Realistic Analysis of Reactive Routing Protocols of VANETs for Rajiv Chowk [NCR] Flyover

Background: Although research has been done in the areas of VANET routing protocol performance focusing on highway scenarios, no research has been observed for highway flyovers. This research paper is an effort in this direction to find out the solution for flyover scenario where line of sight is one of the major challenges. Objective: The main objectives of the proposed research paper is to analyze the feasibility of vehicular ad-hoc networks for highway flyover (NCR) Scenario. Further to Compare the performance of an on-demand routing protocols for vehicular ad-hoc networks using VanetMobiSim 2.0 and NS-2 .34 to find out the best one that may be used as the most reliable and efficient ondemand routing protocol. Methods: The prime focus of this paper is to explore the feasibility of VANETs for Highway traffic management over flyovers (NCR) and to analyze & compare possibility of reactive routing protocols AODV, DSR and TORA for VANETs under study. The feasibility of vehicular ad-hoc networks based on live data for Rajiv Chowk on NH- 8 Scenario has been analyzed. The performance of On-demand routing protocols for vehicular Ad-hoc network is compared using VANETMobiSim 2.0 and NS -2.34. Results: The simulation is done for four performance matrices for mentioned reactive routing protocols using VanetMobisim 2.0and NS 2.34. The graphs are plotted for all three protocols to find out the most feasible protocol. Conclusion: It is observed that DSR is most feasible reactive protocols for proposed research on flyover.

Hybrid on-demand greedy routing protocol with backtracking for mobile ad-hoc networks

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to design an efficient on-demand routing protocol for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) which combines greedy forwarding and backtracking.Design/methodology/approachIt uses a hybrid approach. It uses greedy approach to determine a route from source to the destination. If the greedy approach fails, then it uses a backtracking approach. Combining greedy and backtracking approaches results in a more efficient protocol.FindingsA new routing algorithm for MANETs which performs better than some of the existing algorithms.Research limitations/implicationsA major limitation of this work is that the authors did not implement the protocol on a test bed and evaluated the performance. They neither had the infrastructure nor the resources to actually implement the protocol. Instead, like most of the researchers, they evaluated the performance of their protocol based on extensive simulation. The mobility model, the area of deployment and the density of nodes chosen to simulate the protocol are consistent with what many of the other researchers have done. Intuitively, the authors’ protocol, as the performance evaluation indicates, is likely to perform well in small networks.Practical implicationsThe authors did not implement the protocol on a test bed to evaluate the performance of the protocol. The authors used simulation to study the performance of their protocol. Their simulation model is similar to many of the research works published in the literature.Originality/valueTo the authors’ knowledge, no other paper has combined the greedy and backtracking approach to design a routing protocols for MANETs.

Efficient on Demand Routing Protocol to Optimize Throughput in Manet

Throughput oriented route selection is still a challenging task due to several constraints of ad-hoc networks such as absence of central control, dynamic network topology, selfish nature of nodes, etc. A routing protocol produce optimum results if it prioritizes wireless links on the basis of link quality and consider high quality/ efficient links at the time of path selection. Proposed protocol discovers high quality/ efficient links and connects those links to establish efficient route in mobile ad-hoc network that leads to high Aggregate Network Throughput. This work has been done by estimating every link’s ENT (Expected Number of Transmission) value as QoS parameter and considering qualifying high capacity/efficient links to communicate data packets. To estimate ENT value of each link, variability in packet loss rate on that link is observed in simulation experiments. Probability of errors in transmission is estimated at bit level. Results are stochastic and high fluctuations observed in packet loss rate hence (i.e. packet loss variance on a wireless link) included in link quality estimation. In proposed protocol EODRP (Efficient On Demand Routing Protocol) link quality based route metric ENT, selects QoS qualified wireless links during route computation and routing information disperse through reactive routing protocol. Simulation results have been analyzed and compared with MXAODV [7] which indicates significant improvement in network efficiency in terms of throughput and other parameters.
