ABSTRACT Introduction: The research on vibration training has experienced a period of development in many projects, such as badminton, handball, long jump, and volleyball. However, there is still no quantitative research evaluation of its effects on the development of shoulder, elbow, and upper limb muscle strength in volleyball athletes. It is believed that a specific training protocol with vibration may bring benefits to sensory-motor performance and muscle strength implementation in volleyball athletes. Objective: To study the effects of vibration training on upper limb function in volleyball players. Methods: Literature, experimental, and mathematical-statistical research methods were used to explore the relationship between vibration training under the muscle strength of the upper limbs and their joints. Results: The vibration training with an amplitude of 2mm, at a vibration frequency between 30Hz and 45Hz, the frequency of vibration training presented inversely proportional to the effect of vibration training. Conclusion: Vibration training showed the benefits of motor coordination and increased muscle strength in volleyball players. An appropriate vibration training strategy can maximize athletes’ skills, such as body coordination, flexibility, and jumping ability. The effect of vibration training on delayed muscle soreness: A meta-analysis.

Background:Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is caused by unaccustomed exercise, especially eccentric exercise, and is highly likely to cause skeletal muscle injury. It mainly manifests as ultrastructural changes in skeletal muscle, as well as decreased muscle strength, muscle soreness, swelling, and elevated levels of creatine kinase (CK). Vibration training (VT) has been attracting increasing attention as a new type of rehabilitation therapy. It can effectively minimize the occurrence and relieve the symptoms of DOMS, reduce muscle stiffness and soreness, and reduce serum concentrations of CK and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). This article systematically assessed the impact of VT on the mitigation of DOMS through a meta-analysis to provide updated evidence-based information.Methods:Electronic databases such as China Knowledge Network, VIP Electronics, PubMed, EBSCO, and Web of Science were searched to identify randomized controlled trials of VT on DOMS. Searches were performed from database creation to November 2021. The quality of the literature was assessed using the Cochrane Manual for the Systematic Review of Interventions, and meta-analyses were performed using RevMan 5.4 software.Results:VT intervention in DOMS was shown to effectively reduce subjective pain, improve pain tolerance, and accelerate the reduction of serum CK and LDH concentrations. Subgroup analysis of different test time periods showed that subjective pain decreased more significantly after 48 hours than after the other 2 time periods, and pain tolerance increased more significantly after 72 hours than the other 2 time periods; serum CK was significantly increased after 24 and 48 hours of intervention, but showed no significant change compared with the control group after 72 hours. Serum LDH decreased significantly after 24 hours of intervention, but there was no significant difference compared with the control group after 48 hours or 72 hours.Conclusion:VT effectively reduced the subjective pain sensation after DOMS, increased the pain threshold, reduced serum LDH and CK concentrations, and accelerated muscle damage repair compared with control interventions. However, the effect of improving the range of motion of the joints is not clear and should be studied further.Registrationnumber: INPLASY2021120115.

目的: 观察中老年人进行振动训练时下肢骨骼肌激活特征和生理负荷指标,探讨将振动训练应用于中老年人的可行性。方法: 选取28名50～65岁健康中老年人作为研究对象,分别在振动条件下(VT)和无振动条件下(NT)进行5次40 s静力半蹲练习,测试下肢主要肌群表面肌电和生理负荷指标。结果: ①VT受试者腓肠肌内侧(MG)、腓肠肌外侧(LG)、胫骨前肌(TA)、股直肌(RF)、股内侧肌(VM)、股外侧肌(VL)、股二头肌(BF)、半腱肌(ST)均方根振幅(RMS)显著高于NT(P＜0.01,P＜0.05),VL、BF、ST、MG、LG、TA平均功率频率(MPF)显著高于NT(P＜0.05);VM、VL、BF、MG、LG、TA平均功率斜率(MPF slope)显著高于NT(P＜0.05);②VT受试者心率和摄氧量显著高于NT(P＜0.05),主观疲劳等级(RPE)与NT比较无显著差异;③VT受试者尿素氮与NT无显著差异。结论: 50～65岁中老年人采用施加振动刺激的静力半蹲练习可以使机体募集更多的运动单位和更高比例的快肌纤维参与工作,在不增加主观疲劳感的基础上增加运动强度,同时未发现肌肉损伤。.

Effects of vibration training vs. conventional resistance training among community-dwelling older people with sarcopenia: three-arm randomized controlled trial protocol.

IntroductionSarcopenia is a chronic and progressive disease, which is accompanied by the decline in muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance with aging, and it can lead to falls, fracture, and premature death. The prevention and treatment of sarcopenia mainly include exercise therapy and nutritional supplement. Exercise therapy is one of the most potential interventions to prevent and/or delay the progression of sarcopenia. Resistance training (RT), one of the most commonly used exercise types, is widely used in the treatment of sarcopenia, while vibration training (VT) is a prospective strategy for improving sarcopenia in older people. The aim of our study is to compare the effect of VT and RT in older people with sarcopenia on muscle mass, muscle strength, physical performance, blood biomarkers, and quality of life.Methods and analysisOur study is a 12-week, three-arm randomized controlled trial with assessor-blinded. The diagnosis criteria for subject recruitment adopt the guidelines for the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. A total of 54 subjects who met the criteria were randomized into one of the following three groups: VT group, RT group, and control group. The VT group and RT group received a 12-week whole-body vibration training and a resistance training program three times every week, respectively. The primary outcome is lower limb muscle strength, and the secondary outcomes include muscle mass, upper limb muscle strength, physical performance, blood biomarkers, and quality of life. We then performed assessments three times, at baseline (0 week), after intervention (12 weeks), and follow-up (24 weeks). The adverse events were also be reported. All outcome measurements were performed by the same researchers. Data were saved in the unified database, and the collected data of all subjects were analyzed by intention-to-treat analysis.Ethics and disseminationThis study was reviewed and approved by the Ethical Committee of Xinhua Hospital Chongming Branch. The findings of the study were authorized in peer-reviewed journals with online access; meanwhile, it will be presented at domestic or international academic congresses.Clinical trial registrationChinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2100051178), registered on 15 September 2021.

Effects of Vibration Training on Weight Loss and Heart Rate Variability in the Obese Female College Students.

Objective The present study examined the effects of a 12-week whole-body vibration training (WBVT) regimen on heart rate variability (HRV) and body composition in the obese female college students. Methods Participants were assigned to either the WBVT (n = 17) or obese control group (n = 19). The students in the WBVT group conducted a 12-week (5 times per week and 30 min per time) exercise protocols (30 to 40 Hz of frequency and 4 mm of amplitude), and the obese control group did not perform regular physical training during 12 weeks of study. Then, body composition (body weight, BMI, body fat, body fat percentage; trunk fat mass, muscle mass, MM) and HRV (time domain and frequency domain index) were measured in all subjects before and after WBVT intervention. Results (1) After 12-week WBVT intervention, body fat mass, trunk fat mass, and body fat percentage significantly decreased and muscle mass increased in the WBVT group (P < 0.01, respectively); there was no significant change in body weight and BMI (P > 0.05, respectively). (2) After 12-week WBVT intervention, LFn, LF/HF, and HR significantly decreased (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), R-R interval and RMSSD significantly increased (P < 0.01, respectively), and there was no significant difference in HFn (P > 0.05). Nevertheless, there was no significant change before and after the test in body composition and HRV in the obese control group (P > 0.05, respectively). (3) After 12-week WBVT intervention, compared with the obese control group, body fat mass, body fat percentage, trunk fat mass, and LF/HF significantly decreased (P < 0.05, P < 0.01), muscle mass, and RMSSD increased (P < 0.05) in the WBVT group; but there were no significant difference in other indicators (P > 0.05) between the obese control group and WBVT group. (4) The reduction of body fat percentage before and after the WBVT intervention are positively correlated with the reduction in the LFn and LF/HF (r = 0.542, r = 0.504; P < 0.05, respectively) and negatively correlated with the increase in the RMSSD (r = −0.514, P < 0.05), and the reduction of trunk fat mass are positively correlated with the reduction in the LF/HF (r = 0.540, P < 0.05). Conclusion The results indicate that WBVT improves HRV and body composition in obese female college students, and the reduction in body fat percentage and trunk fat mass are associated with a shift in cardiac autonomic regulation towards vagal dominance and improve sympathetic-vagus balance after WBVT intervention. In conclusion, WBVT may be a feasible treatment to improve cardiac autonomic function and body composition.

Physical activity in cancer - effectiveness of exercise therapy approaches

The positive effects of oncological exercise therapy are sufficiently proven according to scientific studies. International evidence-based guidelines confirm this importance and recommend physical exercise as part of the standard therapy for cancer. The effects of physical activity on cancer-specific deficits are versatile ranging from positive impact on fatigue syndrome, mortality, incontinence, lymphoedema, CIPN, anxiety, depression to reduction of pain. According to current knowledge, sensorimotor training is recommended for the treatment of polyneuropathy. The actual effectiveness of vibration training in reducing symptom burden is undetermined. There are more than 100 randomized, controlled studies with the highest evidence rating for the management of CrF available. In this regard, exercise therapy is more effective than drug therapy in alleviating the symptomatology of CrF. In addition to the movement-therapeutic approach, a coordinated diet is necessary to avoid nutrition shortages.The evidence on physical activity in oncology must be considered not only in theory, but also in practice and be accepted as a general recommendation for oncology patients. The personalized OTT treatment concept represents a practical implementation and offers a targeted treatment option with low side effects.

Effect of the frequency of weight-free vibration training on the isokinetic strength of knee muscles in juvenile football players

BACKGROUND: Vibration training can affect strength improvement. However, the role of the vibration frequency, in terms of knee muscle strength, is unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of vibration training with the same amplitude and different frequencies on the isokinetic muscle strength of the knee in juvenile football players. METHODS: Juvenile football players were divided into four groups: low frequency (n= 13, 25 Hz), medium frequency (n= 14, 40 Hz), high frequency (n= 14, 50 Hz), and control (n= 13). The frequency groups completed 12 weeks of weight-free vibration training (three times/week) with the same amplitude (3 mm) but different frequency. RESULTS: Compared with baseline, the peak extension torque of the knee at 60∘/s and 240∘/s increased by 8.4% and 12.9%, respectively, in the medium-frequency group, and by 8.9% and 15.5%, respectively, in the high-frequency group. The extensor endurance (the ability of joint muscle groups to maintain a force output over time) of the knee in the high-frequency group increased by 4.3%. At 12 weeks, the high-frequency group had greater knee extensor endurance than the low- and medium-frequency groups. CONCLUSION: In juvenile football players, weight-free vibration training at 40 Hz and 50 Hz improves peak torque of the knee extensors at 60∘/s and 240∘/s, while training at 50 Hz improves endurance of the knee extensors.

Effects of vibration training on quality of life in older adults: a preliminary systematic review and meta-analysis.

PurposeOlder adults experience reduced quality of life (QOL). Vibration training has been applied in older adults. However, it remains inconclusive whether vibration training improves QOL in this population. This review summarized the effects of vibration training in changing eight domains of the Short Form-36 (SF-36) among older adults.MethodsFive randomized controlled trials enrolling 212 participants were included. The mean difference (MD) was calculated as the effect size measurement. Meta-analyses were completed for each of the eight SF-36 domains.ResultsRelative to control groups, vibration training is more effective in improving five QOL domains: physical function (MD = 15.61, p < 0.001), physical role limitations (MD = 12.71, p = 0.001), general health (MD = 10.59, p < 0.001), social function (MD = 11.60, p < 0.001), and vitality (MD = 6.86, p = 0.002). Vibration training may not lead to greater improvements for the other three domains (MD = 0.13–3.25, p values = 0.21–0.96) than the control groups. Vibration training showed a low attrition rate of 7.1%.ConclusionVibration training programs may significantly improve five of eight SF-36 QOL domains. While three domains did not demonstrate significant improvements, results were slightly in favor of vibration training compared to the control groups. Effects of whole-body vibration training in a cachectic C26 mouse model

Targeted exercise combined with nutritional and pharmacological strategies is commonly considered to be the most optimal strategy to reduce the development and progression of cachexia. For COPD patients, this multi-targeted treatment has shown beneficial effects. However, in many, physical activity is seriously hampered by frailty and fatigue. In the present study, effects of whole-body-vibration-training (WBV) were investigated, as potential alternative to active exercise, on body mass, muscle mass and function in tumour bearing mice. Twenty-four male CD2F1-mice (6–8 weeks, 21.5 ± 0.2 g) were stratified into four groups: control, control + WBV, C26 tumour-bearing, and C26 tumour-bearing + WBV. From day 1, whole-body-vibration was daily performed for 19 days (15 min, 45 Hz, 1.0 g acceleration). General outcome measures included body mass and composition, daily activity, blood analysis, assessments of muscle histology, function, and whole genome gene expression in m. soleus (SOL), m. extensor digitorum longus (EDL), and heart. Body mass, lean and fat mass and EDL mass were all lower in tumour bearing mice compared to controls. Except from improved contractility in SOL, no effects of vibration training were found on cachexia related general outcomes in control or tumour groups, as PCA analysis did not result in a distinction between corresponding groups. However, analysis of transcriptome data clearly revealed a distinction between tumour and trained tumour groups. WBV reduced the tumour-related effects on muscle gene expression in EDL, SOL and heart. Gene Set Enrichment Analysis showed that these effects were associated with attenuation of the upregulation of the proteasome pathway in SOL. These data suggest that WBV had minor effects on cachexia related general outcomes in the present experimental set-up, while muscle transcriptome showed changes associated with positive effects. This calls for follow-up studies applying longer treatment periods of WBV as component of a multiple-target intervention.

Study Selection 19 randomized controlled trials (full text available, PEDro score > 6, human subjects, available in English, and conducted within the past 5 years) with a total of 695 subjects met study methodology guidelines using the PEDro scale. Data Extraction A total of 38 articles were screened, and 19 studies were included in the systematic review. With heterogeneity in vibration parameters including dosing and prescription, no meta-analysis was conducted. Data Synthesis A systematic literature review revealed that there were statistically significant improvements reported in terms of improved BMD outcomes in the use of WBV with or without resisted exercise (RE) vs no intervention in 11 of the randomized controlled trials (n= 442). There were no significant differences found between WBV with and without RE vs no intervention in eight of the randomized controlled trials (n= 223). Our results revealed that WBV significantly elicits improvements in BMD in majority of the reviewed studies. Conclusions There is substantial evidence for recommending the use of WBV in improving BMD. Studies to determine effective dosage of vibration to improve BMD are recommended in WBV training. Effects of Vibration Training on Cognition and Quality of Life in Individuals With Multiple Sclerosis.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) detrimentally affects cognition and quality of life (QOL). Interventions that can improve cognitive deficit and QOL in individuals with MS are desired. This pilot study investigated the possible effects of vibration training on improving cognition and QOL in individuals with MS. Eighteen adults with MS were randomized into 2 groups: training and control. The training group underwent 6 weeks of vibration training, and the control group maintained their normal lifestyle throughout the study. In both groups, before and after the training course, the disability status was evaluated by the Patient Determined Disease Steps scale and the Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite (MSFC), cognitive function was assessed by the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adults (BRIEF-A) and the Buschke Selective Reminding Test (SRT), and QOL was gauged by the 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). The training was well accepted by the participants, and no major adverse event was reported. All participants finished the entire protocol. Compared with the control group, the training group showed greater improvements in MSFC score, Metacognition Index score of the BRIEF, SRT score, and physical domain score of the SF-36. These results suggest that vibration training could be an effective alternative training paradigm to enhance cognition and QOL in individuals with MS, and they provide an encouraging base to conduct a large-scale clinical trial.

Methods and Data Extraction 19 randomized controlled trials (full text available, PEDro score > 6, human subjects, available in English, and conducted within the past 5 years) with a total of 695 subjects met methodological quality guidelines using the PEDro scale. Results A total of thirty-nine (39) articles were screened, and nineteen (19) studies with a total population of n = 695 were included in the systematic review. With heterogeneity in modality and vibration intensity/frequency including dosing and prescriptions, no meta-analysis was conducted. There were no significant differences found between WBV with and without resistive exercise (RE) vs no intervention in eight (8) of the randomized controlled trials (n= 223). There were statistically significant improvements reported in terms of improved BMD outcomes in WBV with or without RE vs no intervention in eleven (11) of the randomized controlled trials (n= 442), a positive trend towards improvement of BMD in one (1) of the randomized controlled trials (n= 30), and a mixed result of statistically significant improvement of BMD in lumbar spine and no effect towards BMD in femoral neck in one (1) of the randomized controlled trials (n=38). Our results revealed that WBV significantly elicits improvements in bone mineral density in majority of the studies. Conclusion and Recommendations The studies presented substantial evidence for recommending the use of WBV for improving bone mineral density. The use of WBV with and without RE significantly improves BMD when compared to no intervention. Studies to determine effective dosage of vibration to improve BMD are recommended in the field of WBV.

The Efficiency of Vibration Training on Changes in Strength

The study aim was to determine the effectiveness of vibration training on changes in strength in individuals of both sexes. Vibration training is a modern form of training that is becoming more and more widespread and frequent, and involves the application of vibrational stimulations of a certain form to cause functional and structural changes. It is used during strength training, where it can act in isolation on individual muscle regions or as whole body vibrational training. These observations provide an opportunity to apply a new method in training to improve the training itself and thus the performance of the athletes. The impact of this training on motor skills, and even strength, as one of the most studied areas, has not been extensively researched. This paper analyzes 14 studies on the effects of vibrational training on the change in power, and the papers are systematically analyzed. A review of research conducted in the field of this training shows that the effects of such training methods show in both professional and recreational athletes. In most of the studies analyzed, training has shown significant changes in power as well as in other motor skills.

Effects of Vibration Training in Interstitial Lung Diseases: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: Numerous studies have reported positive effects of exercise training in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) on physical capacity and quality of life. However, evidence is rare on the effects of specific forms of training and further pathophysiological mechanisms in these patients. Objectives: In this multicenter study we aimed to explore the clinical effects of whole-body vibration training (WBVT) in patients with ILD on various outcome measures, including proinflammatory cytokines and myostatin. Methods: We randomly assigned 26 patients with different forms of multidisciplinary confirmed fibrotic ILDs either to the WBVT group (n = 11; 55% male, 61 ± 14 years old, forced vital capacity 83.2 ± 29.3% predicted, 6-min walking distance [6MWD] 478 ± 79 m) performing 3 months of a standardized training (3 times per week), or to a control training group (CTG, n = 15; 60% male, 63 ± 9 years old, FVC 74.6 ± 20.5% predicted, 6MWD 455 ± 85 m) performing sham WBV training. Training in the two groups was performed on a Galileo^TM vibration plate (6–20 vs. 5 Hz). The functional assessments before and after the intervention period included pulmonary function, 6MWD test, chair rise test, ultrasonographic measurement of quadriceps muscle thickness (cross-sectional area), quality of life questionnaires, and serum samples. Results: We observed a significant increase in 6MWD (∆_Training = 30 m [12–67], p = 0.024) and a decrease of myostatin (∆_Training = –465 pg/mL [–713 to –166], p = 0.008) in the WBVT group. In contrast, no significant differences were observed in the CTG. Conclusions: The present study demonstrates that WBVT is able to significantly increase 6MWD and decrease myostatin in patients with fibrotic ILDs. Therefore, WBVT seems to be a beneficial and feasible training modality in ILD patients. Clinical Trial Registry: German Clinical Trials Registry (DRKS00012930).

Effect of Vibration Intervention on Balance, Core Stability and Muscle Strength in Martial Arts Athletes

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of vibration training(V)and control training(C)on balance, core stability and muscle strength in young martial arts athletes. METHODS: Fourteen athletes were recruited and randomly assigned to two groups:vibration group(V, n=7)and control group(C, n=7). Before and after the 12 weeks training, The SMART Balance Master system was used to measure scores in the limits of stability(LS): reaction time(RT), movement velocity(MVL), end point excursion(EPE), maximum excursion(MXE), and directional control(DCL). The core stability is evaluated by the performance of grade 8 abdominal bridge. Core muscle strength are indirectly evaluated by integrating electromyography (iEMG). Student t-tests were used for data analysis. RESULTS : MVL(1.37 deg/sec, P < 0.01),EPE(10.86%,P < 0.01),MXE(7.00%,P < 0.05),DCL(2.86% ,P < 0.05)in group V were significantly higher after the Vibration Intervention . EPE ( 8.86%,P < 0.01),MXE(4.43%,P < 0.01)in group C were higher after the control training . The percentage range was higher in group V(8.29%)than C(4.50%). No significant differences were found in LS between the groups at 12 weeks of follow up. The full score of grade 8 abdominal bridge was obtained in the vibration group, and the overall Range was higher in group C than group V(P < 0.01). The scoring of core stability also revealed no differences between the groups. In group V left rectus abdominis iEMG value(nearly 100% mV·s ,P < 0.01), left rectus femoris(0.71 mV·s,P<0.05) , left tibialis anterior ( 0.39 mV·s, P<0.05)were higher after 12 weeks training .In group C left rectus femoris ( 0.42 mV·s, P < 0.01), left tibialis anterior ( 0.12 mV·s ,P < 0.05) were higher after 12 weeks training . After 12 weeks training, the iEMG value of left tibialis anterior( 0.63 mV·s ,P < 0.01),right rectus abdominis ( 0.34 mV·s ,P < 0.05) in group V were higher than C. There were no significant differences in the right erector spinae, left Rectus abdominis, left rectus femoris, left erector spinae and left gluteus maximus between group V and C. CONCLUSION: Vibration training improved balance, core stability and muscle strength of movements in young martial arts athletes.

PO-281 Vibration Training Restores Food Intake and Body Weight in a Rat Model of Depression

Objective Stress is well known to negatively affect body weight and food intake in animal models, but the underlying mechanisms have not yet been well elucidated and effective treatment is lacking. This project was initiated to study the potential beneficial effect of vibration training, a novel neuromuscular training method, in the treatment of depression.&#x0D; Methods Adult Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into the following three groups: 1) naïve control group, 2) depressive disorder group, and 3) depression with vibration training treatment group. To develop a depression phenotype, rats were individually and gently restricted in a modified, well-ventilated tube for 4 h every day for 21 days. Animals in vibration training treatment group were subjected to 30 min of vibration training (30 Hz, 5 days / week) for continuous 5 weeks. Body weight, physical and mental condition, and food intake were recorded daily and the data were statistically analyzed and compared between groups.&#x0D; Results 1. Daily body weight and food intake measurements revealed that both parameters decreased rapidly after the initiating daily restraint stress, compared with control group. Intriguingly, both body weight and food intake of the depressive disorder group with 5-week vibration training were significantly improved. 2. The secretion of serotonin and dopamine in animals with chronic restraint stress were decreased compared with normal animals, and this attenuation was significantly prevented by vibration training.&#x0D; Conclusions The present study demonstrates that vibration training is capable of restoring food intake and body weight in a rat model of chronic restraint stress-induced depression.

Effects of iliopsoas tensile vibration training on the walking ability of stroke survivors

Objective To observe the effect of iliopsoas tensile vibration training on the walking ability of stroke survivors. Methods Thirty stroke survivors were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, each of 15. Both groups were given traditional rehabilitation treatment, while the observation group was additionally provided with iliopsoas tensile vibration training. Both groups were evaluated in terms of the root mean square (RMS) of iliopsoas, active range of motion (A-ROM) of the hip joint, the kinematic parameters of gait and Berg balance scale (BBS) scores before and after the 4-week treatment. Results Before the treatment there were no significant differences between the two groups in any of the measurements. After the treatment improvement in all of the measurements was observed in both groups, with the average RMS iliopsoas, A-ROM, step length, step velocity and BBS score of the observation group significantly better than those of the control group. Conclusions Tensile vibration training of the iliopsoas can significantly improve the muscle excitability of the affected iliopsoas in stroke survivors, and improve their balance and walking ability.
