Pride and mistrust? The association between maritime bridge crew officers’ professional commitment and trust in autonomy

AbstractIncreased automation and autonomy are anticipated in the maritime industry, and safe operation is contingent on operators’ appropriate trust in the technology. Seafarers have a strong professional commitment, valuing practical experience and professional independence, which might be challenged by autonomous vessels. It was hypothesized that professional commitment would be negatively related to trust in autonomy and interaction with age of the officer. Using a questionnaire on bridge officers in Norwegian vessels (N = 2016), we performed a multiple linear regression to test the hypotheses. Professional commitment was significantly related to lower trust in autonomy, thus supporting this hypothesis. We found partial support for an interaction effect with age, as the effect of professional commitment was strongest among those with lower age. The model did not account for much variation in trust in autonomy and, therefore, seems to be largely related to aspects other than those considered in this study. Implications for future research are presented.

Effect of Professional Commitment, Ethical Environment and Personal Cost on Intention to do Whistleblowing

This research was conducted to find out what factors influence a person's intention to do whistleblowing. The purpose of this study is to find out whether professional commitment, ethical environment, and personal costs affect the intention to do whistleblowing at the Public Works and Public Housing Office of Jambi Province. This study uses primary data and was obtained through questionnaires distributed to Civil Servants who work at the Public Works and Public Housing Office of Jambi Province with a research sample of 71 respondents who work at the agency with the sampling technique using simple random sampling. The data analysis method used in this research is multiple linear regression analysis using the SPSS 25 program. The results of this study indicate that professional commitment, ethical environment, and personal costs have an influence on the intention to do whistleblowing. So it can be concluded that the higher the individual's professional commitment, the higher the intention to do whistleblowing, the higher the understanding of ethics in a work environment, the higher the intention to do whistleblowing, and the higher the personal cost, the higher the intention to do whistleblowing.

Organizational Culture As A Moderation Of Influence Of Professional Commitment And Moral Reasoning On Independent Auditors' Ethical Decisions

This study aims to provide empirical evidence regarding the effect of professional commitment and moral reasoning on ethical decisions and the ability of organizational culture to moderate the effect of professional attention and moral reasoning on ethical decisions. The population of this study was independent auditors of the capital market at KAPs in the East Java and West Java Regions who were actively registered with the OJK. The sampling method used the total sampling technique and obtained a sample of 59 people. The data analysis technique used is the PLS model. The results showed that professional attention has a positive effect on ethical decisions, moral reasoning has a positive effect on ethical decisions, organizational culture strengthens the effect of positive professional attention on ethical decisions, and organizational culture strengthens the effect of positive moral reasoning on ethical decisions.

Professional commitment and willingness to care for people living with HIV among undergraduate nursing students: The mediating role of empathy

BackgroundAs future registered nurses, undergraduate students play a vital role in integrated care for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome; hence, there is a need to examine factors that can increase their willingness to care for persons with such conditions. ObjectiveThis study examined the relationship among nursing professional commitment, empathy, and willingness to care for people living with human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome among undergraduate student nurses, and the mediating role of empathy in this relationship. DesignQuantitative, cross-sectional design. SettingsNursing schools from five provinces of China, including Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Henan, and Hebei. ParticipantsA total of 747 undergraduate student nurses were recruited via cluster sampling. MethodsOnline survey was used to collect data. Nursing Willingness Questionnaire, Professional Commitment Scale, and Jefferson Scale of Empathy were the scales used to measure the variables. Structural equation modeling was used to determine significant relationships. ResultsRespondents' professional commitment and empathy demonstrated moderate positive associations with willingness to care. Empathy demonstrated a 21 % mediating effect on the effect of professional commitment and willingness to care (p < 0.05). ConclusionsFindings highlight the enabling role of professional commitment and empathy in improving undergraduate student nurses' willingness to care for persons living with human deficiency virus. Nurse educators can help improve the impact of students' professional commitment on their willingness by using educational strategies that enhance their empathy.

K33 Distribution in Surakarta. This research used quantitativemethods with 60 samples from 122 employee at PT. K33 Distribution in Surakartaand measured by the questionnaire method. Sampling using stratifiedrandom0sampling method. Data analysiswwas performed using descriptivestatistical test instruments, classical assumptionntests, multiple linear regressiontests and hypothesisstesting. The results of the analysis from the hypothesis testshow that attitudes have a significant effect onnwhistleblowing intentions, andprofessional commitment and perceptual control have a effect but not significanton whistleblowing intentions.

Analysis on the Influence Path of User Knowledge Withholding in Virtual Academic Community - Based on Structural Equation Method-Artificial Neural Network Model.

The phenomenon of knowledge withholding is a vital issue that undermines knowledge sharing and innovation, hinders the development of offline and online organizations. Clarifying the relationship between influencing factors and knowledge withholding is significant to improve the phenomenon of knowledge withholding in offline and online organizations. Few types of research focus on the online virtual academic community and integrate the three factors of knowledge, individual, and environment to research knowledge withholding. To solve the limitation, this research is based on sociology and psychology-related theories. The two dimensions of enabling and inhibition are divided into factors affecting knowledge withholding. An attempt is made to explore the path between the three types of factors influencing knowledge, individual and environment, and knowledge withholding. This study collected data from 616 users in China’s virtual academic community. It used a structural equation model combined with a cross-layer connected neural network to conduct an empirical analysis on the proposed hypothesis. The results found that: in the virtual academic community, knowledge power in the enabling dimension is the main reason for users to form knowledge psychological ownership, which affects users’ knowledge withholding. However, the effect of professional commitment on users’ knowledge psychological ownership is not significant. After SEM-ANN model fitting, the combined inhibitory effect of community privacy protection and community reciprocity on user knowledge withholding in the inhibition dimension is significantly improved. This research has a specific guiding significance for enhancing the knowledge withholding phenomenon of the virtual academic community and creating an excellent academic exchange atmosphere.

Profession in the accounting sector is a job that is often faced with ethical actions, especially work in the field of Tax Consultants. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of professional commitment, work experience, and tax sanctions on the ethical decision-making process of the Tax Consultant in Bali Province. The population in this study were all Tax Consultants in Bali Province, while the sample in this study used 223 people. Sampling with purposive sampling method. Data testing includes: validity, reliability, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, multiple regression analysis, hypothesis testing and coefficient of determination. The results of the study indicate that professional commitment, work experience, and tax sanctions simultaneously have a significant positive effect on ethical decision making for Tax Consultants in Bali Province.

PENGARUH KOMITMEN PROFESIONAL, SOSIALISASI ANTISIPATIF DAN LOCUS OF CONTROL TERHADAP WHISTLEBLOWING INTENTION

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the effect of professional commitment on whistleblowing intention. (2) the effect of anticipatory socialization on whistleblowing intention. (3) the effect of locus of control on whistleblowing intention. This type of research is quantitative research. The data analysis used is descriptive quantitative to measure the influence of professional commitment, anticipatory socialization and locus of control on whistleblowing intention with the help of the Statistical Package for the Social Sciens (SPSS) program for windows. The results of this study indicate (1) Professional Commitment has a significant effect on Whistleblowing Intention in the Regional Government SKPD of East Flores Regency. This result is evidenced by the coefficient value of the Professional Commitment variable of 0.297 with tcount&gt; ttable (2.354&gt; 1.672) and a significant level of 0.022 &lt;0.05. (2) Anticipatory Socialization has a significant effect on Whistleblowing Intention in the Regional Government SKPD of East Flores Regency. This result is evidenced by the coefficient value of the Anticipatory Socialization variable of 0.289 with tcount&gt; ttable (2.195&gt; 1.672) and a significant level of 0.033 &lt;0.05. (3) Locus of Control has a significant effect on Whistleblowing Intention in the Regional Government SKPD of East Flores Regency. These results are evidenced by the value of the coefficient of the Locus of Control variable of 0.236 with tcount&gt; ttable (2.105&gt; 1.672) and a significant level of 0.040 &lt;0.05.

Professional Commitment And Whistleblowing Intention: The Role Of National Culture

This study aims to identify the effect of professional commitment on whistleblowing intentions. This study also analyzes the role of Hofstede's five dimensions of national culture as moderating variable, including power distance, collectivism, masculinity, uncertainty avoidance, and long-term orientation. This study used a survey method. The primary data collection was through a questionnaire distributed to 92 auditors in accounting firms in Bali Province. The result shows that professional commitment positively affects whistleblowing intention. The moderating variable's roles are power distance and collectivism's culture weaken professional commitment and whistleblowing intention relationship. Two other cultures, namely masculinity and a long-term orientation, are proven to strengthen the relationship between professional commitment and whistleblowing intention. Contrary, uncertainty avoidance culture has no significant effect. Theoretically, this study confirms the role of the national culture in the auditing context. This result practically adds insight to regulators and accounting firm leaders in formulating regulations regarding the appropriate whistleblowing system for organizations. There are two limitations. First, this study uses a survey method. This method allows for social desirability bias for sensitive variables, such as whistleblowing. This study also uses the national culture popularized by Hofstede about forty years ago. Thus, further research might use other popular models.

ANALISIS PERBEDAAN KOMITMEN PROFESIONAL DAN SOSIALISASI ANTISIPATIF MAHASISWA BIDIKMISI DAN NON-BIDIKMISI PADA HUBUNGANNYA DENGAN WHISTLEBLOWING

This study aims to look at the effect of professional commitment and anticipatory socialization of bidikmisi and non-bidikmisi accounting students at Malikussaleh University on its relationship with whistleblowing. In addition, this study also aims to see differences in the level of professional commitment and anticipatory socialization between students of Bidikmisi and non-Bidikmisi Accounting at Malikussaleh University. Sampling in this study using the Slovin formula is a sampling technique that uses a critical value or accuracy limit of 0.1, so that the sample obtained in this study amounted to 90 respondents from a total population of 286 students. This study uses multiple regression analysis techniques with hypothesis testing using the SPSS 22 program. The results show that professional commitment and anticipatory socialization affect whistleblowing, as well as differences in the level of professional commitment and anticipatory socialization between bidikmisi and non-bidikmisi students at Malikussaleh University

Professional Commitment and Locus Of Control Toward Intensity In Whistleblowing Through Ethical Sensitivity

: This study aims to examine the effect of professional commitment and locus of control on the intensity of conducting whistleblowing through ethical sensitivity. The data in this study were obtained from 4 public accounting firms in Makassar. This study uses primary data by conducting direct research in the field that provides questionnaires to 31 respondents and to test hypotheses using PLS (partial least square). The results found that partially professional commitment and locus of control had a positive relationship and had a significant effect on ethical sensitivity. Professional commitment and ethical sensitivity have a positive relationship with the intensity of whistleblowing. While the locus of control has a negative relationship, ethical sensitivity has a significant effect while professional commitment and locus of control have no significant effect. While the intervening variable partially shows that professional commitment and locus of control have a positive relationship and significantly influence the intensity of whistleblowing through ethical sensitivity.

This study aims to analyze empirically the effect of professional commitment, locus of control and anticipatory socialization of accounting students on whistleblowing. The type of this research is quantitative research, the population in this study were students of the 2014 and 2015 primary years at the Padang State University. The sample was chosen as many as 100 respondents, the data used in this study were primary data derived from questionnaires distributed to respondents. This study uses multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21 software.The results of this study indicate that professional commitment variables have a significant positive effetc on whistleblowing, internal locus of control variables have a significant positive effect on whistleblowing, external locus of control variables have a significant negative effect on whistleblowing and anticipatory socialization variable of accounting students has no significant effect on whistleblowing. The fourth hypothesis is rejected.

The effect of professional commitment and ethical consideration on the desire to do whistleblowing with locus of control as a moderating variable (study on the banking sector in Palembang)

This study aims to obtain empirical evidence regarding the effect of professional commitment and ethical considerations on the desire to conduct whistleblowing. This study also adds locus of control as a moderating variable that influences the relationship between professional commitment and ethical considerations. Respondents in this study were 53 internal auditors placed in the banking operational unit in Palembang and sampling by saturated sample method. The results of this study indicate: (1) The professional commitment of internal auditors has a positive effect on the desire to conduct whistleblowing, (2) Ethical considerations of internal auditors have a positive effect on the desire to conduct whistleblowing, 3) professional commitment of internal auditors moderated Locus of control does not affect desire do whistleblowing, and 4) ethical considerations of internal auditors moderated locus of control does not affect the desire to do whistleblowing.

Pengaruh Komitmen Profesional pada Kepuasan Kerja Dengan Motivasi Sebagai Variabel Moderasi

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of professional commitment on job satisfaction with motivation as a moderating variable. This research was conducted at tax consultant office (KKP) in Denpasar area. Samples taken as many as 81 respondents by using purposive sampling method. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires. The analysis technique used is with Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). Based on the analysis results found that professional commitment has a positive and significant impact on job satisfaction at the Tax Consultant Office in Denpasar. These findings indicate that the higher the professional commitment the job satisfaction will increase, in addition the results of this study indicate that the role of motivation in professional commitment is strengthening, which means the implementation of professional commitment is better accompanied by the application of motivation together will be able to improve job satisfaction at the Tax Consultant Office in Denpasar.&#x0D; Keywords: professional commitment, job satisfaction, motivation.

An Analysis of Professional Commitment and Seniority as Moderator Variables of the Feedback and Performance Relationship among Hospital Nurses.

The present study examined moderating effects of professional commitment and seniority on the relationship between four types of feedback and individual performance using a sample of 369 nurses. The findings indicated a negative impact of reprimanding supervisory feedback on performance as seniority increased and a curvilinear relationship between client feedback and performance with greater seniority. Professional commitment did not emerge as a significant moderator of the feedback/performance relationship.
