IntroductionThe aims of this study are to observe the clinical course of all patients affected by infection with SARS-CoV-2 undergoing HD focusing on the impact of HP. MethodsPatients were divided into Group A: HD sessions with HP and Group B: patients without HP. We registered all the data regarding patients’ clinical course. Results13 patients have been enrolled in group A. 9 patients were discharged from the hospital after 43 days (range: 35–56). 30 days was the mean hospitalization stay for the deceased. We did not observe any side effects with HP cartridges. 9 patients did not receive HP during their hospitalization. For those who represented as symptomatic, 8 out of 9 patients died after 6 days of hospitalization (range: 1–14), 2 of them in ICU. ConclusionHP seems to be a helpful, safe and quite efficient tool in the battle against Covid-19 in HD patients.

The Efficacy of Early Additional Hemoperfusion Therapy for Severe COVID-19 Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study

Introduction: Currently, the effect of hemoperfusion on outcome in severe COVID-19 patients is still unknown. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the effects of early HA-330 hemoperfusion in severe COVID-19 patients. Methods: We conducted a single center, prospective cohort study on patients who were diagnosed with severe COVID-19 patients and admitted to ICU. Patients in hemoperfusion group (defined as patients who were treated with hemoperfusion therapy at least 3 sessions in combination with standard therapy) were compared with the control group (defined as patients who received standard treatment alone or received less than 3 sessions of hemoperfusion therapy). The primary outcome was daily sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) scores. Secondary outcomes were all-cause mortality at 28 days, mechanical ventilator-free day, daily C-reactive protein (CRP), oxygenation (defined by PaO₂/FiO₂ ratio), and severity score of lung infiltration on the chest X-ray (CXR RALE score). All outcomes were adjusted by regression analysis to reduce the confounders due to some difference in baseline characteristics. Results: A total number of 29 severe and critical COVID-19 confirmed patients were enrolled. Fifteen patients were defined as hemoperfusion group and 14 were control group. The median of CRP and SOFA score at the baseline (the day after severe pneumonia diagnosis or before hemoperfusion) in hemoperfusion and control groups were comparable, 96.79 mg/L and 87.3 mg/L, p = 0.53, 3.53 ± 0.99 versus 4.3 ± 1.89, p = 0.15, respectively. Clinical improvement associated with decreased SOFA score and improvement of CXR RALE score were found in hemoperfusion group compared to control group (p = 0.008 and p = 0.005, respectively). The 28-day mortality rate was significantly lower in hemoperfusion group compared to control group (6.67% vs. 85.71%, p < 0.001) and the adjusted hazard ratio of death was 0.017 (95% confidence interval = 0.008–0.351, p = 0.008). Conclusions: The addition of early HA-330 hemoperfusion to standard therapy improved severity of organ failure and might reduce the mortality rate. However, the results were affected by the baseline confounders and limited sample size.

The outbreak of COVID-19 was declared a pandemic without definitive therapies. Extracorporeal blood purification has been proposed as one of the therapeutic approaches in patients with Covid-19 because of its beneficial impact on elimination of inflammatory cytokines. Considering the association of increased cytokine release with severity of COVID disease and the effect of hemoperfusion on removal of these cytokines, this study was conducted to determine the outcome of hemoperfusion in patients with severe and critical COVID admitted at Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

Hemoperfusion with HA380 in acute type A aortic dissection patients undergoing aortic arch operation (HPAO): a randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial

BackgroundCardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is an important cause of significant systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in the surgical treatment of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). In patients with arch vessel involvement, extensive surgical repairs often necessitate prolonged use of CPB and results in extensive inflammatory responses. Cytokines and chemokines released during CPB contribute to the progression of SIRS, increase perioperative complications, and negatively impact surgical outcomes. A cytokine adsorber (HA380) is expected to reduce the level of cytokines during CPB, which may decrease both intraoperative and postoperative inflammation. The purpose of this study is to investigate if HA380 is able to reduce the levels of inflammatory cytokines and decrease perioperative complications in ATAAD patients undergoing CPB and deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA).MethodsThis study is a single-center, randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial. The study aims to recruit 88 patients with ATAAD and aortic arch involvement who will undergo CPB and DHCA to repair the dissected aorta. Patients will be randomized equally into the CPB/DHCA only group (control group) and the CPB/DHCA + HA380 hemoperfusion group (intervention group), with 44 patients each. Patients in the control group will undergo CPB and DHCA only, while patients in the intervention group will undergo continuous hemoperfusion with HA380, in addition to CPB and DHCA. The primary outcome is a composite of major perioperative complications. The secondary outcomes include related inflammatory markers, coagulation parameters, and minor perioperative complications. To comprehensively evaluate the effect of hemoperfusion on the perioperative outcomes, we will also determine if there are differences in perioperative all-cause mortality, length of ICU stay, and total hospitalization costs.DiscussionIn the current trial, hemoperfusion will be applied in patients undergoing CPB and DHCA for repair of the aorta involving the aortic arch. This trial aims to test the safety and efficacy of our hemoperfusion device (HA380) in such settings. Upon completion of the trial, we will determine if HA380 is effective in reducing perioperative proinflammatory cytokine levels. Further, we will also verify if reduction in the proinflammatory cytokine levels, if present, translates to improvement in patient outcomes.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov NCT04007484. The effect of hemoperfusion on the recovery of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients; case series and review study

Hemoperfusion is an effective modality in removing certain toxins from the blood, especially those that bind to proteins in the body. Hemoperfusion has shown a therapeutic effect on COVID-19 patients. In this case series, we report four patients without effective results following the use of hemoperfusion on the recovery of COVID-19 patients. This study is a case series which carried out on four patients referred to COVID-19 ward of Velayat hospital in Qazvin, Iran. The mean age of the COVID-19 patients was 52.75 ± 18 years. The mean stay at the hospital was 21.5 ± 15.15 days. This study showed that hemoperfusion cannot show a significant therapeutic effect on COVID-19.

THE APPLICAT ION OF HEMOPERFUSION WITH PERITON ITIS IN CHILDREN: CORRECTION OF GAS CO MPOSITION AND AC ID-BASE BALANCE OF THE BLOOD

Introduction: The gas composition and acid-base balance of blood play a main role in assessing the patient in critical condition. Estimating the dynamics of acid-base balance, one can judge the severity of pathology and the adequacy of therapeutic measures. The aim: to determine the effect of hemoperfusion on the gas composition and acid-base balance of blood in children with severe forms of peritonitis. Material and methods: The study was performed on the basis of a prospective analysis of acid-base balance of blood and blood gas composition of 30 patients in the early postoperative period with severe forms of peritonitis, who were treated in the Department of anesthesiology and intensive care of the Grodno regional children’s clinical hospital. This study was conducted in accordance with the standards of bioethics, was approved by the ethical Committee of the institution and complies with the principles of the Helsinki Declaration. Results and conclusions: This article describes the methodology of hemoperfusion in children, analyzed the dynamics of changes in the basic parameters of acid-base balance and blood gas composition in the early postoperative period with severe forms of peritonitis during hemoperfusion. The positive dynamics of laboratory data obtained as a result of the study proves the high effectiveness of the use of antiproteinase biospecific hemosorbent. The use of biospecific hemoperfusion as an additional method in the complex therapy of peritonitis gives a real opportunity to improve the results of treatment of this category of patients.

Effect of hemoperfusion with hexadecyl-immobilized cellulose beads on myocardial fatty acid imaging in hemodialysis patients: a case series study

BackgroundHexadecyl-immobilized porous cellulose beads (HICBs) can be used to remove β2-microglobulin, as well as several inflammatory cytokines and free protein-binding uremic toxins (PBUTs). Interleukin-6 and PBUT levels have been associated with oxidative stress and/or cardiovascular disease. In this retrospective study, we investigated the potential of direct hemoperfusion with HICBs to improve impaired myocardial fatty acid imaging in hemodialysis patients.MethodWe evaluated 24 hemodialysis patients who did not undergo percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting during the observation period. Among these patients, 12 who had been treated using HICB columns for more than 4 years were assigned to the HICBs group (mean observation period, 61.9 ± 16.3 months), while the remaining patients who had never undergone treatment with HICB columns were assigned to the non-HICBs group (mean observation period, 58.0 ± 12.2 months). Impaired myocardial fatty acid metabolism was assessed by single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) using 123I-β-ethyliodophenyl pentadecanoic acid (BMIPP). Uptake on SPECT was graded in 17 segments on a 5-point scale (0, normal; 4, absent) and assessed as the BMIPP summed score (SS).ResultsWhile the HICBs group showed a lower mean β2-MG than the non-HICBs group, the other baseline clinical patient characteristics did not differ between the two groups. In the HICBs group, the second BMIPP SS was decreased significantly compared with the first BMIPP SS. A decrease in the BMIPP SS was observed in nine (75%) patients with the first BMIPP SS ≥ 6, and no change was observed in three patients with BMIPP SS ≤ 2. In the non-HICBs group, the second BMIPP SS was increased significantly compared with the first BMIPP SS.ConclusionThe improvement in myocardial fatty acid imaging suggests an improvement in the impaired myocardial microcirculation. We suggest that the use of direct hemoperfusion with HICBs may have improved the impaired myocardial microcirculation in hemodialysis patient through the removal of protein-bound toxins and inflammatory cytokines and might contribute towards improving the survival of dialysis patients.

Impact of hemoperfusion with polymyxin B added to hemofiltration in patients with endotoxic shock: a case\u2013control study

BackgroundSeptic shock is a leading cause of death in critical patients. In patients with gram-negative septic shock, hemoperfusion with polymyxin B aims to remove endotoxins from plasma. We analyzed the clinical and biological response to hemoperfusion in patients with septic shock and acute kidney injury.MethodsThis prospective case–control study in the medical–surgical intensive care unit of a university hospital included consecutive adults patients with septic shock and suspected gram-negative bacteria infection with elevated plasma endotoxin activity (EAA > 0.6 EU/ml) and acute kidney injury requiring continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). At onset of septic shock, half underwent CRRT plus hemoperfusion with polymyxin B for two hours a day during two consecutive days (hemoperfusion group) and half received only CRRT (control group). We measured clinical, physiological, and biological parameters (EAA, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and cytokines) daily during the first 5 days.ResultsWe included 18 patients (male, 33%; mean age, 67.5; mean SOFA score, 11.3). Abdominal infections predominated (50% had peritonitis). At the beginning of CRRT, RIFLE classification was “failure” for 72% and “injury” for 28%. Baseline characteristics did not differ between groups. Patients in the hemoperfusion group required longer mechanical ventilation (12.4 vs. 9.4 days, p = 0.03) and CRRT (8.5 vs. 6 days, p = 0.01) than in the control group. Noradrenaline doses, lactate, procalcitonin, and C-reactive protein decreased in both groups. At day 5, EAA was significantly lower in the hemoperfusion group (0.58 EU/ml vs. 0.73 EU/ml in controls, p = 0.03). There were no significant differences between groups in other biomarkers or ICU mortality (33.3% in the treatment group vs. 44.4% in the control group, p = 0.5). No adverse effects of hemoperfusion were observed.ConclusionsHemoperfusion with polymyxin B added to CRRT resulted in faster decrease in endotoxin levels, but we observed no improvements in clinical, physiological, or biological parameters.

Objective To observe the effects of hemoperfusion on homeostasis in patients with acute poisoning.Methods The data of 26 acute poisoning patients treated with hemoperfusion were retrospective analyzed.The clinical data included blood pH,PvCO2,PvO2,blood lactate,potassium,free-calcium,bicarbonate and blood glucose assayed and recorded at 0 min,30 min and 120 min after hemoperfusion.The statistical software SPSS 18.0 was utilized to analyze the statistical differences in the above biomarkers among three different intervals after hemoperfusion.Results At the beginning of hemoperfusion therapy,levels of homeostasis indicators were pH (7.36 ± 0.05),PvCO2 (41.0 ± 8.8) mmHg,PvO2 (37.0 ± 11.8)mmHg,lactate (1.35 ± 1.00) mmol/L,potassium (3.1 ± 0.5) mmol/L,sodium (136.3 ± 4.8)mmol/L,free-calcium (0.95 ± 0.11) mmol/L,blood glucose (7.90 ± 3.47) mmol/L,bicarbonate (22.8±3.3) mmol/L.At30min,the levels of those were (7.36±0.04),(40.0±5.7) mmHg,(41.0±7.5) mmHg,(1.11 ±0.57) mmol/L,(3.1±0.4) mmol/L,(137.3 ±5.4) mmol/L,(0.94 ±0.12) mmol/L,(6.20 ± 1.55) mmol/L,(22.2 ±2.3) mmol/L,respectively.At 120 min,the levels of those were (7.35 ± 0.06),(38.0 ± 6.7) mmHg,(46.0 ± 7.9) mmHg,(0.69 ± 0.52)mmol/L,(3.0±0.4) mmol/L,(137.3±5.0) mmol/L,(0.97±0.10) mmol/L,(5.88±1.43)mmol/L,(22.0± 2.2) mmol/L,respectively.Apparently,there were significant statistical difference in PvO2,lactate and blood glucose (P ＜ 0.05) among three different intervals,and no significant statistical differences in other indicators (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions There were no significant effects of hemoperfusion on relevant indicators in acute poisoning patients. Effect of Hemoperfusion Using Polymyxin B-immobilized Fibers on Acute Lung Injury in a Rat Sepsis Model

Direct hemoperfusion using polymyxin B-immobilized column (PMX-DHP) is recognized as an effective treatment for septic shock. However, whether its efficacy is limited to cardiovascular dysfunction remains unknown. Therefore, we planned to examine the effects of PMX-DHP in an acute lung injury model. [Materials and methods] Rats were assigned to either PMX-DHP group or control group (n= 7 in each). A lung injury was created by the intratracheal instillation of LPS. In PMX-DHP group, an arteriovenous extracorporeal circuit using PMX column was applied for three hours. The same procedure using a dummy column was applied in control group. The lung microcirculation was observed, and adherent leukocytes, RBC velocity, and the arterial PaO2 were calculated. Pathological changes and the wet/dry weight ratio of the lungs were examined. [Results] Adherent leukocytes and platelets to the lung venules were recognized at 3 hours, and their numbers increased over time. Treatment with PMX-DHP significantly suppressed these events and helped maintenance of the blood flow and PaO2 levels. The lung edema and the histologic damages were also suppressed. [Conclusions] PMX-DHP improved the microcirculation by suppressing leukocyte and platelet adhesion. PMX-DHP had beneficial effects in a model for acute lung injury.

Effect and possible mechanism of hemoperfusion treatment for severe Henoch-Schönlein purpura

Objective To research the changes of clinical symptoms and serum free radical in children with severe Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) between before and after accepted hemoperfusion. And evaluate the curative effect of hemoperfusion treatment for severe HSP and discuss the mechanism. Methods Twenty-three severe HSP patients in Children's Medical Center of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University which were divided into 2 groups: 13 cases were divided into traditional treatment group, 10 cases were divided into hemoperfusion group; 11 healthy children were divided into healthy control group. The alleviate situation of clinical symptoms were observed and recorded such as purpura, abdominal pain, joint pain, hematuria, albuminuria, and the changes of urine RBC count, 24 hour urine protein quantitative before and after hemoperfusion and traditional treatment. Collected the serum before and after the first time hemoperfusion treatment, after the second time hemoperfusion treatment, after the third time hemoperfusion treatment in hemoperfusion group; Collected the serum before and after conventional therapy in traditional treatment group; Collected only once serum in healthy control group. And then their superoxide anion(), hydroxy radical(·OH), hydrogen dioxide(H2O2), malonaldehyde(MDA) values were detected with spectrophotometry. The diffe-rences of each index among each group were compared respectively. Results After treatment, the clinical symptoms of 23 severe HSP children such as rash, abdominal pain, joint pain, hematuria, albuminuria which were reliefed compared to before treatment. The urine erythrocyte count, 24 hour urine protein quantitative were reduced in 2 groups, but the symptoms of perfusion group children relieved faster, and the clinical index decreased more obviously. The serum , ·OH, H2O2, MDA levels of 23 HSP children were significantly higher than those of the healthy control group(all P<0.01). In the traditional treatment group, compared between before and after treatment, the indexes were decreased(all P<0.05); After 3 times of hemoperfusion, all indexes were decreased in hemoperfusion group, but only after the third hemoperfusion the indexes were decreased statistically significant(all P<0.05). But compared with the hemoperfusion group, the index were decreased more apparently in after the third hemoperfusion, and it was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusions 1. The serum free radicals are increased in severe HSP children, they may play a role in vasculitis.2. For severe HSP, the recent therapeutic effect of hemoperfusion ally with traditional treatment is better than the alone traditional treatment.3. Hemoperfusion ally with traditional treatment can remove more effectly the serum free radicals, reduce lipid peroxide products, then mitigate the damage of the oxidate stress to the vascular endothelial. Effects of Hemoperfusion in the Treatment of Childhood Henoch-Schönlein Purpura Nephritis

Immune mediators play a role in the pathogenesis of Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) nephritis. Since hemoperfusion (HP) is able to eliminate the immune mediators in many diseases, we investigated the effects of HP in the treatment of HSP nephritis. 90 children with HSP nephritis were enrolled and followed up for 12 months. They were assigned to the HP group or the control group, respectively. Both groups were treated with corticosteroids and other supportive therapy. Patients in the HP group received HP for 3 consecutive days. The major outcomes included the percentage of patients with HSP nephritis, extrarenal symptoms, and recurrences and changes in serum levels of immune mediators. The percentage of patients with nephritis in the HP group was less than that in the control group at each visit; the differences for prortions at 1, 3, 6, 12 months were 16.7% (p = 0.133), 31.3% (p = 0.004), 10.8% (p = 0.283), and 20.6% (p = 0.003), respectively. The severity and duration of abdominal and joint pains in the acute phase were significantly improved in the HP group compared to those in the control group. Hemoperfusion also significantly reduced patients' serum levels of immune mediators including IgA, TNF-α, IL-6, and LTB4. However, recurrences between the two groups were not significantly different. Hemoperfusion in combination with corticosteroid was more effective than corticosteroid alone in treating HSP nephritis. The effects may be achieved by eliminating immune mediators.

Studying the therapeutic effects of hemoperfusion with continuous venovenous hemofiltration in paraquat-poisoned patients by the ratio of residual normal lung in 3D-CT image

Results There were no significant differences in mortality (28.26% versus 24.49%) between the two groups on day 28 after poisoning. The mean time between poisoning and death in HP-CVVH group was (5.2±2.1) days, which was significantly longer than that (3.8±1.7) days in HP group (P<0.05). The ratio of residual normal lung in 3D-CT image on 6th day after poisoning in HP-CVVH group was (31.80±12.71)%,which was significantly higher than that (25.60±14.06)% in HP group (P < 0.05). Conclusion The combined therapy of HP and CVVH could prevent advances in lung injury induced by acute paraquat poisoning and prolong survival time, but failed to reduce mortality of paraquat-poisoned patients.

The effect of hemoperfusion combined with daytime high capacity hemofiltration in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis

Objective To explore the therapeutic value of hemoperfusion combined with daytime high capacity hemofiltration in the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis.Methods The clinical data of 25 patients with severe acute pancreatitis treated by hemoperfusion combined with daytime high capacity hemofiltration(the observation group) were retrospectively analyzed,and compared with 30 severe acute pancreatitis patients without blood purification treatment(the control group).Results After the treatment,the biochemical indicator of the observation group was improved obviously compared with pre-treatment.Of the observation group,the hospital slaying time was shorter [(21.6±12.3) d vs(30.8±15.6) d],and the cure rate was higher(72％ vs 40％),and the death rate was lower (16％ vs 30％),compared with the control group(all P ＜ 0.05),but the treatment costs had no difference between the two groups.Conclusion Patients with severe acute pancreatitis on the basis of conventional treatment should conduct as early as possible hemoperfusion combined with daytime high capacity hemofiltration,and it could improve the success rate of the rescue and shorthen the length of hospital stay,and its curative effect was accurate. Effects of hemoperfusion on oxidative stress, matrix metalloproteinases and their inhibitors in acute paraquat poisoning rabbits

To observe the effects of hemoperfusion on oxidative stress status and the levels of matrix metallo proteinase (MMP-2, MMP-9), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP-1) in lungs, livers and kidneys in paraquat poisoning rabbits, and to explore the mechanism of therapeutic effects induced by HP on acute paraquat poisoning. Seventy eight rabbits were randomly divided into normal control group (N group, n=6), exposure groups (PQ group, n=24), hemoperfusion treatment group (HP treatment group, n= 24) and blank control group (HP group, n=24). The PQ, HPQ and HP groups were divided into 4 observation time groups (1, 3, 7 and 21 d). N group was exposed to 5 ml normal saline and PQ group was exposed to 50 mg/kg PQ by oral gavage. In 1 h after PQ exposure, HPQ group was exposed to the activated carbon hemoperfusion for 2 h. The content or activity of MDA, SOD and GSH-Px in lungs, livers and kidneys were detected, the expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 were measured with immunohistochemical SP method for all groups. The contents of MDA in lungs, livers and kidneys of PQ and HPQ groups decreased and the activities of SOD and GSH-Px in lungs, livers and kidneys of PQ and HPQ groups increased with observation time. The expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in PQ and HPQ groups enhanced on the first day, PQ group was most obvious. Along with the observation time extended, all kinds of positive expression were still high. Compared with normal control group, the activities of serum SOD and GSH-Px in PQ and HPQ groups declined significantly, but the contents of serum MDA increased; the expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in lung, liver and kidney tissues increased obviously, the ration between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 significantly increased (P < 0.05). Compared with PQ group, the activities of SOD and GSH-Px in HPQ group significantly increased, the content of MDA declined, the expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in lung, liver and kidney tissues declined obviously, the ration between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 significantly declined, but higher than N group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The oxidative stress and MMPs may be involved in the pathogenesis of tissue injuries induced by paraquat. The treatment with HP could obviously reduce oxidative stress and the expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1, enhance the ration between MMP-9 and TIMP-1. So HP treatment could play a role in rescuing the PQ poisoning and protecting the organs function.

To observe the effects of hemoperfusion on plasma concentration and histopathological changes in paraquat (PQ) poisoning rabbits. Sixteen rabbits were randomly divided into exposure group (PQ group, n = 8) and hemoperfusion plus PQ exposure group (HPQ group, n = 8). HPQ group were given hemoperfusion in 45 min after exposure to PQ. The plasma PQ concentrations at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 6.0, 12.0, 24.0, 48.0 and 72.0 hours after exposure were measure in 2 groups. The histopathological changes of lung, liver and kidney were examined, the behavior changes and the survival number of 7 days were observed. The poisoning symptoms of HPQ group were generally better than those of PQ group, in each group six animals survived for 7d. The plasma PQ concentrations at 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 6.0, 12.0, 24.0, 48.0, 72.0 h after exposure in HPQ group were significantly lower than those in PQ group (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). In HPQ group, the plasma PQ peak concentration [(5.01 ± 0.15] µg/L], area under the curve [(54.03 ± 5.31) mg×h(-1)×L(-1)] and PQ half-life time [(16.29 ± 3.26) h] after treatment of HP were significantly lower than those [(11.97 ± 0.75) µg/L, (141.40 ± 10.10) mg×h(-1)×L(-1) and (31.16 ± 9.85) h] in PQ group (P < 0.05). The apparent volume of distribution and PQ clearance rate in HPQ group were significantly higher than those in PQ group (P < 0.05). Congestion, edema, cell infiltration and other pathological changes were found in lung, liver and kidney in PQ group under the light microscope, which were significantly more severe than those in HPQ group. The pathologic scores of lung tissue, liver and renal tubular damage on the 1st, 3rd, 7th days after exposure in HPQ group were significantly lower than those in PQ group (P < 0.05). When acute PQ poising, rabbits appeared the quick absorption, high toxicity and long half-life time of PQ. The early hemoperfusion can effectively remove the toxicant in plasma and reduce the pathological injury in major organs, which may be beneficial for further treatment.
