Effect of finite chemical potential on QGP-Hadron phase transition in a statistical model of fireball formation

We study the effect of finite chemical potential for the QGP constituents in the Ramanathan et al. statistical model (Phys.Rev.C70, 027903,2004). While the earlier computations using this model with vanishing chemical potentials indicated a weakly first order phase transition for the system in the vicinity of 170 MeV (Pramana, 68, 757, 2007), the introduction of finite values for the chemical potentials of the constituents makes the transition a smooth roll over of the phases, while allowing fireball formation with radius of a few "fermi" to take place. Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking inQED3at finite density and impurity potential

We study the effects of finite chemical potential and impurity scattering on dynamical fermion mass generation in $(2+1)$-dimensional quantum electrodynamics. In any realistic systems, these effects usually cannot be neglected. The longitudinal component of the gauge field develops a finite static length produced by chemical potential and impurity scattering, while the transverse component remains long-ranged because of the gauge invariance. Another important consequence of impurity scattering is that the fermions have a finite damping rate, which reduces their lifetime. By solving the Dyson-Schwinger equation for the fermion mass function, it is found that these effects lead to strong suppression of the critical fermion flavor ${N}_{c}$ and the dynamical fermion mass in the symmetry broken phase.

Goldstone boson counting in relativistic systems at finite density

We study the effects of finite chemical potential on the pattern of symmetry breaking within the relativistic linear sigma model. In accordance with previous works we show that type-II Goldstone bosons may appear whose dispersion relation is quadratic in momentum in the long-wavelength limit. We show that their presence is tightly connected with nonzero densities of non-Abelian Noether charges, and formulate a general counting rule for the number of the Goldstone bosons. Working at tree level, we conclude with the discussion of the loop effects. Our results find an application in particular to cold dense quark matter, where a type-II Goldstone boson has been found, e.g., in the phases with kaon condensation.

We analyze the effects of finite chemical potential on spontaneous breaking of internal symmetries within the class of relativistic field theories described by the linear sigma model. Special attention is paid to the emergence of ``abnormal'' Goldstone bosons with a quadratic dispersion relation. We show that their presence is tightly connected to nonzero density of the Noether charges, and formulate a general counting rule. The general results are demonstrated on an $\mathrm{SU}(3)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathrm{U}(1)$ invariant model with an SU(3)-sextet scalar field, which describes one of the color-superconducting phases of QCD.

Specific-heat anomaly in theddensity wave state and emergence of inhomogeneous orbital antiferromagnetic order

We study the effect of finite chemical potential on the d-density wave state that has been proposed to explain the pseudogap phenomena in underdoped cuprates. We find that the specific heat anomaly at the transition temperature, below which the d-density wave state forms, gets weaker when finite chemical potential is introduced. This provides a useful ground for the proper interpretation of the specific heat measurement in regard to the existence of the d-density wave state below the pseudogap temperature. Further increase of the chemical potential leads to an incommensurate orbital antiferromagnetic state before the system eventually turns into the normal state. This is an inhomogeneous state characterized by novel charge ordering and an analog of the Fulde-Ferrel-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state in superconductivity.
