270 Interactive effects of available phosphorus and Ca:P on growth performance of nursery pigs fed diets containing phytase

Abstract An experiment was conducted to determine the interactive effects of available phosphorus (aP) and Ca:P on growth performance of nursery pigs. A total of 2,492 pigs [PIC 337 × 1050, initial body weight (BW) = 5.6 kg], placed in pens with 35 or 36 pigs each, were used in a 36-d trial. Treatments were arranged as a 2 × 4 factorial structure with two levels of aP (0.40 or 0.55%) and four Ca:P (0.85, 1.07, 1.29, and 1.51) with 9 replicates per treatment. Four basal diets with the extreme aP and Ca:P levels were manufactured in meal form and blended at the farm to create intermediate treatments. Phytase [Allzyme Spectrum Swine (Alltech, Nicholasville, KY)] was included in the experimental diets at superdose levels with an estimated 0.15% aP release. The experimental diets were fed from d 0 to 19 and a common corn-soybean meal-based diet with adequate aP and 1.20 Ca:P was fed from d 19 to 36. Data were analyzed with the MIXED procedure in SAS in a randomized complete block design with pen serving as the experimental unit and initial BW as the blocking factor. There was no evidence (P > 0.10) for aP and Ca:P interactive effects on growth performance (Table 1). From d 0 to 19, there was no evidence (P > 0.10) for growth performance differences between the aP levels. Increasing Ca:P resulted in a quadratic response (P = 0.043) in gain to feed ratio (G:F), with no evidence for (P > 0.10) differences in average daily gain (ADG) or average daily feed intake (ADFI). From d 19 to 36, pigs previously fed 0.55% aP had improved (P ≤ 0.047) ADFI and ADG. Pigs previously fed increasing Ca:P had improved (linear, P = 0.024) G:F. There was also no evidence (P > 0.10) for interactive effects on removal or mortality rates. However, pigs fed greater aP had decreased (P = 0.021) mortality rate. In summary, there were minor performance differences between different aP and Ca:P levels, but feeding greater aP diets resulted in a significant improvement in mortality rate.

Effect of dietary phosphorus and restricted feeding on performance, egg quality and serum biochemical traits of laying hens at the second production phase

The effect of available phosphorus and restriction of feeding on the performance, egg quality, serum biochemical and yolk fatty acid profiles in laying hens at 40 to 60 weeks of age was studied. A total 540 laying hens (Lohmann Brown) aged at 40 weeks were randomly placed in a 2×3 factorial arrangement of dietary treatments including two levels of available phosphorus (AP, 0.32 and 0.45%) and three restricted feeding levels (RFL, 90, 95 and 100%) having 5 replicates in each treatment, and the experiment were conducted for twenty weeks. The results showed that dietary interaction between AP and RFL had significant effects on egg production percentage (P<0.01), egg weight (P<0.05), daily egg mass (P<0.01) and feed conversion ratio (P<0.01). Production performance was significantly (P<0.01) affected by RFL; and both 95% and 100% RFL had showed similar mean value in egg production and egg weight. Egg quality traits: eggshell color and eggshell breaking strength were differed (P<0.05) among the treatments. Moreover, albumen height, Haugh unit and eggshell breaking strength significantly (P<0.05) increased in diet contained 0.45% AP. Dietary limitation of feed did not alter the egg quality except eggshell color. Serum albumin was influenced among the treatments and the mean value of albumin and total protein were same in sole effect of 95% and 100% RFL. Higher serum glucose was obtained in response to the primary effect of 0.32% AP. The total concentration of yolk fatty acid profiles was not assorted in the impacts of AP, RFL and in their interaction. Therefore, the results suggest that 95% feeding was sufficient to hens during second production period, for optimum production performance and egg quality as well as diet containing 0.45% inorganic phosphorus could have influenced positively on egg quality. Investigating the effect of available phosphorus and calcium level on the potential of a multi-carbohydrase and phytase complex on growth performance, amino acids and phosphorus digestibility in broilers from 1 to 21 days of age

An experiment was carried out to investigate the influence of dietary available phosphorus (avP) and calcium (Ca) levels on the nutritional potential of a multi-carbohydrase and phytase complex (MCPC) on the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) of amino acids (AA) and phosphorus (P) and performance of broilers fed with corn-soybean meal based-diets from 1 to 21 day of age. A total of 400 one-day-old male Cobb 500 chicks were allocated to 4 treatments in a randomized complete block design with 2 × 2 factorial arrangements of treatments. The two factors were levels of avP and Ca (adequate =4.5 g avP and 9. 0 g Ca per kg or suboptimal =3.5 g av and 7.5 g Ca per kg) and levels of MCPC supplementation (0 or 200 mL per ton feed). Growth performance, feed intake (FI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured on day 21. Excreta samples were collected on days 19–21 and ileal digesta were collected from all birds on day 21. There was an interaction between avP and Ca levels and MCPC on the final body weight (P < 0.001), body weight gain (BWG, P < 0.001) and FI (P = 0.002) from 1 to 21 days of age. Regardless of the dietary level of avP and Ca, supplementation with MCPC improved (P < 0.001) the BWG and the FCR. An interaction (P < 0.05) was also observed between level of avP and Ca and MCPC on AID of Cys, Gly, His, Lys, Met, Ser, Thr, Tyr, and Val. The addition of MCPC also improved (P < 0.001) apparent ileal digestibility of overall amino acids (AA) by (4.0% and 5.9%) and P (39% and 37%) for adequate and suboptimal levels of avP and Ca, respectively. This study demonstrated that MCPC is an effective solution to improve the availability of AA and P for broilers and consequently the performance. It also highlighted the need to consider interactions with dietary avP and Ca levels to optimize the nutritional benefits of an enzyme solution combining multi-carbohydrase and phytase activities in poultry nutrition.

Effects of Dietary Available Phosphorus Levels and Phytase Supplementation on Performance, Egg Quality and Serum Biochemical Parameters of Hy-Line Brown Laying Hens from 40 to 60 Weeks of Age

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of available phosphorus (AP) levels with or without supplemental phytase on the performance, egg quality, and serum biochemical parameters of laying hens. A total of 540 laying hens (40-week-old) were housed in cages and assigned to 6 dietary treatments with 5 replicates each, for 20 weeks. The treatments consisted of 0.20%, 0.25%, and 0.30% AP diets with or without phytase supplementation. During the 20-week period, egg production was lowest in hens fed the 0.20% AP diet; however, phytase supplementation in the diet completely corrected the adverse effect (<i>P</i>&lt;0.05). No consistent difference was observed in egg production between hens fed the 0.25% and 0.30% AP diets and those fed the 0.20% and 0.30% AP diets with phytase supplementation. Similarly, egg mass was lowest in the 0.20% AP diet-fed group, and no difference in egg mass was observed in the 0.25% and 0.30% AP diet as well as the phytase-supplemented diet groups; however, egg mass was improved in the phytase-supplemented diet groups(<i>P</i>&lt;0.05). Egg quality traits did not differ with dietary treatments. Serum alkaline phosphatase level showed a linear decrease (<i>P</i>&lt;0.05) in the phytase-treated groups with increasing AP levels; moreover, a numerically linear increase (<i>P</i>&lt;0.05) in serum Ca and P levels was observed in the phytase-treated groups. The results of this study indicate that phytase supplementation in the diet of laying hens could increase egg production and may lead to greater mineral absorption.

Wheat Production under Long-term Application of Inorganic and Organic Fertilizers in Rice-Wheat System under Rainfed Conditions

Under rainfed rice-wheat cropping system, experiments were conducted on wheat variety Annapurna-2 from 1998 to 2002 to study the effect of continuous application of inorganic and organic fertilizers in longer run on wheat production and soil properties in alluvial soil of Khumaltar, Lalitpur at 1365 msal. Eleven different fertilizers combinations comprised of inorganic and organic fertilizers were used. The results of the five-year experiment indicate that the applications of optimal level of inorganic fertilizers could supply the plant nutrients to wheat crop to produce sustainable yield. On the other hand, organic fertilizers could help to increase the crop yield and maintain soil fertility at the same time. Residual effect of available phosphorus applied in previous rice crop had significant response on wheat yield. For maintaining soil fertility, application of FYM and incorporation of crop residue into soil are worth practicable.Nepal Agric. Res. J. The Effect of Different Levels of Dietary Phosphorus (Inorganic Phosphorus) on Performance in Broiler Chicks

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of available phosphorus on the growth performance, phosphorus and calcium metabolism of broiler chicks. Four hundred and five 7 days old age chicks were fed with a diet containing 0.20, 0.25, 0.30% available phosphorus (0.30, 0.35 and 0.40 % respectively total phosphorus) in a completely randomized design, consisting of 45 chicks per replicate during a 14 days experimental period (from 8 to 21 days of age). All feeding programs were isocaloric and isoprotein. chicks were put at random into 3 treatment groups (3 replicates and 135 chicks per treatment).The effects of different levels of available phosphorus on body weight, daily feed consumption, feed conversion efficiency, feed/gain ratio, weight percentage of body parts, percentage of bone ash, calcium and phosphorus percentages in bone ash, and plasma inorganic phosphorus and calcium were assessed and determined. The results showed that the effects of different levels of available phosphorus on bod y weight, daily feed consumption, bone ash percentage, plasma calcium and phosphorus percentages (p<0.01) and bone ash phosphorus percentage (p<0.05) were significant while no significant effects were observed in the case of feed conversion efficiency, feed/gain ratio, and plasma calcium. From the results obtained, it seems that increasing levels of inorganic phosphorus (non-phytate phosphorus) led to mor e efficiency in the broiler performance, calcium and phosphorus utilized by poultry.

Effect of varying manganese and available phosphorus levels in the diet on egg production and eggshell quality of layers

The effects of graded levels of available phosphorus (2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 g kg −1) and added manganese (25, 50 and 75 mg kg −1) on performance of commercial layers were evaluated during the period from 42 to 52 weeks of age, in a 3×3 factorial design. All experimental diets contained 160 g kg −1 CP, 11.3 MJ kg −1 ME and 41.2 g kg −1 calcium. Manganese was supplemented from MnSO 4, 5H 2O. No significant effect of available phosphorus and manganese on feed consumption, feed conversion per kg of egg mass was observed. Egg production and egg weight were significantly ( P<0.05) increased with supplements of 50 and 75 mg kg −1 manganese, regardless of the available phosphorus level in the diet. Eggshell thickness was not influenced by manganese levels, but in increasing the available phosphorus from 2.5 to 4.5 g kg −1, eggshell thickness was reduced significantly ( P<0.05).

Arbuscular菌根菌をインゲンマメ栽培に利用するため, 品種「どじょう」と「セリーナ」を用いて, 土壌中の有効態リン含有量(ブレイ第2法にて測定)と菌根菌の関係ならびにインゲンマメの生育に対する菌株間の比較をおこなった. 得られた結果は, 以下の通りである. 播種時の有効態リン含有量が2.5 mg/100gになるとArbuscuIar菌根菌の感染が抑制され, 4.1 mg/100gではArbuscular菌根菌を接種してもインゲンマメの生育はあまりかわらなかった. このことから黒ボク土壌でインゲンマメ栽培にArbuscular菌根菌を利用するには, 播種時の有効態リン含有量が, 4.1 mg/100g以下であることが必要と思われた. 2種類のArbuscular菌根菌をインゲンマメに接種したところ, Gigaspora margarita, Glomus sp. (y) ともに接種胞子数が多くなるほどインゲンマメの生育はよくなかった. しかし, Gigaspora margarita と Glomus sp.(y)では, Glomus sp.(y) のほうが生育初期における感染率が高く, インゲンマメの生育もよかった. このことから, インゲンマメには Gigaspora margarita より Glomus sp.(y) のほうが, より有効な菌と思われた.

Effect of available phosphorus in paddy soils on phosphorus uptake of rice

Relation between available phosphorus in 6 types of paddy soil in, Human Province and its uptake by rices was studied by32P tracing. The result indicated that the P uptake by rices varied with available P content in the paddy soils. When the content was high, the rice absorbed more P nutrient from the soil and decreased the P uptake from the P fertilizer, which showed a poor contribution of the P fertilizer to the rice yield increase, and vice versa. The recovery of the P fertilizer varied with the soil types. Ranked the first was in paddy soils derived from lacustrine deposite but little rice yield increased. While in paddy soils derived from limestone, the yield greatly increased although the recovery of P fertilizer was the lowest. Rice absorbed P nutrient during its whole growth duration. No matter the different uptake amount due to the P supply by the different soils, rice plant generally had the greatest P nutrient uptake from tillering stage to elongation stage, and along with the rise of the rices dry matter, amount of P uptake was gradually increased but the P content in unit dry matter was tended to decrease.

The characters and effects of available phosphorus in dahurian larch-Manchurica ash mixed seedling stand

The characters and effects of available phosphorus in dahurian larch-Manchuria ash mixed stand was analyzed through measuring available phosphorus of rhizosphere-soil, phosphorus of living and withered leaves and tree height. The study results showed that the phosphorus of living leaves of larch was equal to or less than that of ash. For 5-year-old larch-ash mixed seedlings stand, larch has more available phosphorus in soil, which is not caused by the decomposition of leaves, but the acts of root. The root of larch activates available phosphorus by acidoid fine rhizosphere-soil. At the site with a high concentration of available phosphorus (growing bean before), 5 aged larch grows faster than the same aged ash in pure stand. The ash at the site with a high concentration of available phosphorus at 20 cm soil layer showed a trend to grow over larch, and at the site, with a low concentration of available phosphorus at 20 cm soil layer, had a trend to be suppressed by same aged larch.
