Effects of Information Communication Technology and Customer Service on Customers’ Satisfaction: A Study of the Courier and Parcel Industry in Nigeria

The study investigates the effects of information communication technology and customer service on customers’ satisfaction in the courier and parcel industry in Nigeria. Correlation design was used to investigate the relationship between the independent variables ICT and customer service and the dependent variable customer satisfaction. Questionnaire was administered conveniently to sample 220 customers of the courier and parcel industry in Nigeria, and data analysis carried out using SPSS version 21. The study revealed a significant relationship between ICT and customer satisfaction in the courier and parcel industry in Nigeria. Also, the study found a positive relationship between customer service and customer satisfaction in the courier and parcel industry of Nigeria. Practical implication for service managers and direction for future studies are presented.

Determinants of Supply Chain Performance in the Energy Sector in Kenya: A Case Study of the Kenya Power.

The current supply chain management in Kenya energy sector is deficient of an acceptable SCM performance level due to the inability to connect every willing buyer, and the cost of rural electrification by grid development due to dispersion as is expected in the service charter. The general objective of the study was to establish the determinants of supply chain performance in the energy sector in Kenya with an inclination to KPLC. The specific objectives of the study were to; determine the effect of information communication technology on supply chain performance of KPLC; examine the effect of buyer-supplier relationship on supply chain performance of KPLC; determine the effect of procurement professionalism on supply chain performance of KPLC and establish the effect of contract management on performance of KPLC. The study employed a descriptive research design. The researcher used stratified random sampling technique. The study population was 698 employees working in KPLC from which 254 respondents were selected. Questionnaires were used as the main data collection instrument and a pilot study was undertaken to pretest the questionnaires for validity and reliability. For the purpose of analyzing the data that was gathered, and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences Version 24 was utilized in analysis. In order to establish the statistical link between the independent factors and the predicted variable, the study made utilization of the regression model. Descriptive statistics were computed whereby frequencies, percentages and means were clearly shown in the form of both tables and figures. The study revealed that a unit increase in the elements of information communication technology, procurement professionalism, buyer-supplier relationship and contract management will translate to improvement of supply chain performance in KPLC. the study recommends that KPLC and other firms in the energy sector should exploit the aforementioned determinants in a hierarchical order. This would enable KPLC and other firms in the energy sector to focus on the determinants with the most positive significant effect on supply chain performance and prioritize resources allocation and deployment appropriately. The study recommends this order, buyer-supplier relationships, followed by contract management while information communication technology and procurement professionalism should be exploited concurrently.

The Effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on Revenue Generation in Gombe State Internal Revenue Service

This study examined the effect of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on revenue generation in Gombe State Internal Revenue Service to find out if the application of ICT increased the efficiency of revenue collection. The theory adopted for this study was the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The research design used was survey research in which information was gathered from a sample of respondents. The total population of the study was 98 staff of Gombe State Internal Revenue Service who constituted the sample size of the study. The questionnaire was administered using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analysed using average mean score, while the hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant difference in mean between the availability of ICT Infrastructure and an increase in Revenue Collection; that there is a moderate positive relationship between ICT availability and revenue generation in Gombe State Internal Revenue Service; and that there is a correlation Coefficient for the relationship between the introduction of ICT and the ease of doing business in Gombe State Internal Revenue Service. The study recommended, among others, that Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue should ensure an improved ICT infrastructure which includes completion of the fibre-optic network project, provision of adequate computer systems and reliable UPS to all offices for staff.

PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS ON EFFECT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Information and communication technology serves as the foundation stone of the modern world, with the potential to revolutionise educational methods. There is an increasing demand on educational institutions to employ ICTs to educate students the skills and knowledge they will need in the twenty-first century. Therefore, the objective of the study is to study the perception of students on the effect of Information and Communication Technology in higher education with reference to Academic achievement, Connectivity, Resources and Social circles. The researcher has followed descriptive survey method to conduct this study. The 211 postgraduate students from four department students of Ravenshaw University of Odisha have participated in this study. Data were collected through self developed Perception scale on Effect of Information Communication Technology in higher education. Quantitative evidence showed that those who used ICT resources like social media, electronic devices and other collaborative apps have high academic achievement as compare to others. The findings of the study revealed that majority number of students use electronic device for their academic improvement and there is positive effect of ICT on higher education with reference to academic achievement and connectivity, resources, and social circles.

The Effects of Information Communication Technology on Administrative Efficiency of Tamale Technical University

The aim of the study was to assess the effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on administrative efficiency using the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) as a study area. A descriptive quantitative design was adopted. The total population was stratified into teaching and non-teaching and samples were drawn from each stratum by the method of purposive sampling and a total of 214 respondents were arrived and used for this study. Structured questionnaire was used in collecting data. The study found that TaTU has deployed ICT in administrative functions to some extent even though the ICT logistics are still not available in offices for the administrative functions. The deployment of ICT at the administrative functions improves efficiency and effectiveness. The study however revealed: the lack of human resource management software as well as antivirus software; the lack of proper maintenance; inadequate budget allocations; lack of in-service trainings; using different brands of ICT logistics; and unstable internet connections are the challenges bedeviling the ICT deployment in the University. Standardized brands of modern ICT facilities need to be provided together with reliable internet facilities at all times to avoid unnecessary interruptions which affect efficiency. The maintenance culture of the ICT logistics should also be improved and training of in-service personnel on the usage of the ICT facilities to help ensure their efficient utilization in the University.

The Effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on Health Outcomes: Evidence from BRICS-T Countries

This study analyzes the effects information and communications technology (ICTs) have had on health outcomes on Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS countries), and Turkey both on a panel and country basis using data from the period 1990 to 2018. The study has created three models. According to the general findings obtained for the panel, the error correction coefficients of the models other than Model II are negative and statistically significant. Based on the variables of income level, number of physicians, education level, and CO2 emissions used in Model I, the number of physicians and education level are seen to negatively affect life expectancy both in the short and long terms, contrary to theoretical expectations, while income level positively and CO2 emissions negatively affect life expectancy. The number of mobile users represents ICTs and negatively affects life expectancy both in the long and short term. Model III includes number of Internet subscribers, and all variables in this model except number of physicians support theoretical expectations. Accordingly, education and income levels have positive effects, and CO2 emissions have a negative effect. The number of Internet subscribers has both long- and short-term negative effects. When evaluating the findings according to country groups, the variable of income level positively and CO2 emissions negatively affect life expectancy in all countries. The variable of number of physicians has a negative value in all models and countries except for China in Model II. Similarly, the variable of education level generally has a negative impact in all models except Model III. All the ICT variables have negative values and negatively affect life expectancy.

Synergy effects of ICT diffusion and foreign direct investment on inclusive growth in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The present study critically examines the synergy effect of information communication technology (ICT) diffusion and foreign direct investment (FDI) on inclusive growth in Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries using a modified system-generalized method of moments (GMM) model based on panel data covering the period 2005–2020. This study differs significantly from the previous studies in four ways: (i) this study uses a more comprehensive measure of ICT by computing a composite ICT index, which takes into account several ICT indicators; (ii) some existing study uses a narrow proxy of inclusive growth using the Gini index as a proxy, while others consider three patterns of economic growth dynamics (GDP growth, real, and per capita GDP). For robust analysis, we computed a composite inclusive growth index that takes into account several shared growth indicators; (iii) our model captures the heterogeneity effect of the interaction term of FDI and ICT diffusions on two groups of SSA countries, unlike the previous studies that estimated the joint impact of FDI and ICT on the whole group of countries; (iv) we contribute to the extant studies by determining the threshold level at which ICT diffusion may determine the effect of FDI on inclusive growth. Overall, empirical results show that the positive effect of FDI on inclusive growth could intensify when ICT diffusion is beyond a given threshold level, while inflation and vulnerable unemployment deteriorate inclusive growth, among others. We are of the opinion that ICTs should engage to cushion present and future environmental threats/natural catastrophes through improving geographical monitoring and concerted reaction coupled with other policy recommendations paying special attention to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) fifteen (15)—inclusive growth.Supplementary InformationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s11356-022-22689-3.

Managing Information Communication Technology and Effectiveness of Electricity Distribution Companies: A Re-Strategizing and Evolving Paradigms

Preponderance of literature on the effects of information communication technology addressed ICT functionality and usage majorly, leaving a lacuna in strategic alignment and management of ICT systems and processes. The study investigates the impact of Information Communication Technology Management (ICTM) on organizational effectiveness of Electricity Distribution Companies. Hypotheses were formulated to guide the study which relied on the survey research design. The population consisting of 937 was taken from the staff of the major electricity distribution companies in Nigerian namely: Port-Harcourt and Benin Electricity Distribution companies and subsidiaries; a sample of 280 was selected. Questionnaire was structured and administered through online survey. Consistency of instruments was confirmed at Cronbach Alpha value of 0.93 and Confirmatory Factor Analysis used to assess strength of the good fit of variables that predict the variables. Results affirmed significant relationship between ICTM’s constructs of facility availability, integration, polices, and effectiveness of Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies.

The ICT Antecedents and Sole Proprietary Practicing Audit Firms: A Quantitative Study

The main objective of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) training on the linkage between ICT confidence, ICT challenges as antecedents of Sole Proprietary Practicing Audit Firms (SPPAFs) were the firms having lower than 100 clients. The study adopts a quantitative approach where a set of questionnaires were designed using a Likert scale to collect 165 usable data from auditors of SPPAFs in India. The data were analyzed using Smart PLS and SPSS statistical tools. The findings confirmed that ICT training mediates the linkages between ICT antecedents (ICT confidence and ICT challenges) and SPPAF. The conceptual model of the study can be useful to understand ICT antecedents of SPPAFs to increase the effectiveness of auditing. Hence, practicing auditors could realize ICT confidence and ICT challenges to improve firm effectiveness.

Corruption Perception Index (CPI) and Government Expenditure in Sub Saharan Africa: The influence of Information Communication Technology (ICT)

This study introduces the moderating effects of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the relationship between corruption perception and government expenditures in Sub Saharan Africa. Two hypotheses were developed to address the research objectives. Data were collected from secondary sources and analysed with regression model through Eview package. The results of the study shows that corruption perception index (CPI) and Mobile cellular Telephone subscription (MCTS) are positive and significantly related with general government final capital expenditure. Even though corruption perception index and fixed telephone subscription (CPI*FTS) and CPI*MCTS are positive, they are both insignificant, however, fixed telephone subscription declines final consumption expenditure. The result also shows that one can be misled when thinking that corruption perception index influences the degree at which the government makes expenditures on final consumption.

Human Rights are (Increasingly) Plural: Learning the Changing Taxonomy of Human Rights from Large-scale Text Reveals Information Effects

This manuscript helps to resolve the ongoing debate concerning the effect of information communication technology on human rights monitoring. We reconceptualize human rights as a taxonomy of nested rights that are judged in textual reports and argue that the increasing density of available information should manifest in deeper taxonomies of human rights. With a new automated system, using supervised learning algorithms, we are able to extract the implicit taxonomies of rights that were judged in texts by the US State Department, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch over time. Our analysis provides new, clear evidence of change in the structure of these taxonomies as well as in the attention to specific rights and the sharpness of distinctions between rights. Our findings bridge the natural language processing and human rights communities and allow a deeper understanding of how changes in technology have affected the recording of human rights over time.

Assessment of the impact of Smartphone Technology on Tour Guide Performance in Kenya

Several studies have been conducted to examine the influence of technology on the travel and tourism industry. However, there exists limited literature on the adaptation and usage of Smartphone technology by Kenyan tour guides, a gap this study sought to address. The objective of the study was to examine the effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on tour guiding performance in Kenya, investigate the effect of smartphone usage on the guides’ performance and finally, explore the possibility of adoption smart guiding techniques by Kenya’s tour guides. The study used descriptive methods and target practicing tour guides as the respondents. The data collected was analyzed using the Pearson’s Chi-square test of independence. The findings indicated Smartphone technology positively influenced guides, performance (χ2=65.025;df 2; P<0.05).The study concluded that smartphone and information communication technology have significantly influenced guides performance and hence recommend to the government and other stakeholders to invest more in infrastructure that supports smart destinations, which offer interactive pre-tour services, during the tour and post-tour experiences. Innovation on applications that support real-time interaction with attractions, accommodation and financial institutions is recommended.

A Literature Review on Peers’ ICT Support, Teachers’ ICT Support and Family Involvement on Students’ Engagement in ICTS for Learning Mathematics among Iranian Secondary School Students

This paper is an attempt to propose a framework for elucidating the effects of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in enabling high-school math students' capacity and facilitating students' learning desire and involvement. The paper also argues that students' engagement with ICT is boosted as a result of the ICT utilization and entails their teachers' sustenance, peers' influence, and family support. In other words, it is argued that getting engaged with ICT plays an instrumental role to stimulate teachers and peers support along with family involvement. Namely, a triangle is formed that contributes to the learning desire towards ICT engagement for approaching math. To this goal, the paper empirically demonstrates that the application of ICT among Iranian secondary mathematics students has resulted in positive output. For measuring the independent variables such as school leadership, teachers’ higher productivity, peers’ ICT support and family involvement under ICT introduction and presentation in mathematics classrooms, this study utilizes the data collected from the respondents regarding their opinions about the effect of ICT engagement in learning Mathematics. The study will also play an essential role in linking the gap that exists in ICT research between Iranian education center and the rest of the world.

The Effects of Information Communication Technology on Stock Market Capitalization: A Panel Data Analysis

The level of investment in information communication technologies (ICT) that may affect stock market capitalization varies substantially across countries. Using data on 81 countries from 1998 to 2014, we use a country-fixed effects model to estimate the relationship between ICTs and stock market capitalization. Our empirical model is built on the premise that (1) increased deployment of ICT allows financial market participants to make more informed decisions at reduced inherent risks associated with deficient information or uncertainty in financial markets; and (2) increased access to and use of information communication technologies is expected to improve a country's economic fundamentals. The empirical results support our hypothesis that ICT expansions are positively associated with stock market capitalization.

Effects of Information Communication Technology (ICT) On Collection of Premium a Case of Jubilee Insurance Company in Uashin Gishu County, Kenya

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on collection of premium by jubilee insurance companies’ profitability. This study was guided by the following research questions: What are the factors that influenced the Jubilee Insurance to adopt the use of ICT in collection of premiums? How has this collection contributed to profitability of the insurance? To what extent does ICT affect the remittance of low- income households and micro-enterprises? This study adopted an ex-post facto research design; with target population of 105 consisting of branch manager, unit level managers, supervisors and sales agents. A sample of 45 was selected using simple random sampling procedure. With structured questionnaire, interview guide and observation as the main instrument of collecting primary and secondary data respectively. The study found that a positive correlation exists between ICT adoption and insurance companies’ profitability in Kenya. The results also show that: ICT adoption is not a substitute for effective regulation of the insurance industry. The study concluded that, there is a positive relationship between ICT adoption and insurance companies’ profitability in Kenya. Based on the findings the study made the following recommendations; Jubilee insurance company should steam line the organization structure in the line with ICT, A company should recruit employees with the necessary knowledge and skills in ICT know how. The company should engage in campaign to create awareness among policy holder on ICT.

Effects of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the Childhood Developments and Lives of Disabilities: A Multivariate Analysis

This study investigates the factors acceptance of childhood health and development of disability and the quality of everyday lives of disabilities. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is a widely used to identify the factors which are responsible to health and development. This research is sample based and data has been collected using a structured questionnaire and assessed according to the acceptance of anthropometric measurements, disability scale and ICT relational quality measure. A structural equation modeling may conduct to justify the overall relationship of the variables which are majorly responsible. Overall, the respondent acceptance of ICT was moderate especially who has good health condition. Results shows positive correlations between malnutrition and disability condition as well as disability and ICT for quality improvement of live of disabilities. Our research findings can be used to improve individuals, social as well as national development and provide psychological intervention to promote their acceptance of disability.

Effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on agricultural information access among extension officers in North West Province South Africa

This study determined the effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on agricultural information access among extension officers in North West Province South Africa. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 169 officers from which data were collected with structured and face validated questionnaire. Fourteen statements were perceived by officers as having an effect on improving information access. Significant determinants of the effect of ICT on information access were education (t= 2.61, p = 0.11); constraints to ICT tools (t= 2.60, p = .010), use of ICT tools (t = 4.67, p = .000) and e-readiness (t= -3.01, p =.003).
