Enhancing Rooting in Morus alba Cuttings: Effects of Indolebutyric Acid and a Commercial Rooting Agent across Branch Positions

Sericulture is the cultivation of silkworms to produce silk using white mulberry leaves (Morus alba L.); thus, the sector's quality production of mulberry seedlings on a large scale is economically important. The production of seedlings through cuttings is the most effective and fastest reproduction method. Still, it can also be enhanced using synthetic rooting agents, increasing the productive potential of white mulberry crops. The current work aims to evaluate the response of cuttings taken from different parts of the branch of M. alba var. Miura (Apical 1, Apical 2, Medial, Basal 1, and Basal 2) and treated with indolebutyric acid (IBA; 500, 1,000, and 1,500 mg L-1) and commercial rooting agent Forth® (10 % v/v), in addition to a control treatment. After treating the branches, they were placed in polyethylene containers filled with substrate and kept in a greenhouse for 70 days. The application of hormones on cuttings of M. alba favored several morpho-agronomic parameters evaluated for the propagules obtained from different positions on the branch. In conclusion, applying 500 or 1,000 mg L-1 of IBA is recommended for the various positions, with Basal 1 and Basal 2 showing higher values ​​in the evaluated parameters than the other positions. The results can help silk breeders optimize white mulberry crop production.

Application of Indole Butyric Acid (IBA) to Improve the Quality of MD2 Pineapple Seedlings from Crown Shoots and Sapling Shoots

This aim of this research is to determine the effect of Indole Butyric Acid (IBA) concentration to the origin of the planting material and their interaction on the growth and development of Millie Dillard-2 (MD2) variety pineapple seedlings so that quality pineapple seedlings with good performance and rooting are obtained. The research was conducted from May to December 2023, experimentally using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD). The first factor is IBA concentration of 0 ppm, 200 ppm, 400 ppm, and 600 ppm. The second factor is the origin of the crown shoots and sapling shoots. Thus, there were eight treatment combinations; each treatment was repeated three times, so there were 24 experimental units. Each experimental unit used 3 plant samples. The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) results were tested further using the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) test at the 5% level. Observation were carried out on seedlings aged 30 Day After Planting (DAP) and 100 DAP with observation variables consisting of the root fresh weight aged 30 DAP and 100 DAP, total primary roots and increase in number of leaves. The research results show that giving a concentration of IBA of 400 ppm and seedling shoot planting material is the best treatment combination to be applied to MD2 pineapple seedlings.

Effect of indole butyric acid on the propagation of Hylocereus undatus "pitahaya" under greenhouse conditions

Hylocereus undatus "pitahaya", is a tropical species of cactus that has been established throughout Latin America. Its fruit is considered a potential nutraceutical food because it provides numerous beneficial antioxidant and probiotic properties for health. Reason for which its cultivation has increased both for the national and international market, one of the main limitations being the rapid propagation and establishment of the cuttings. Given this, it was proposed as a research objective to determine the effect of indole butyric acid on the propagation of Hylocereus undatus "pitahaya", as a promoter of root growth. In the greenhouse, stems of mother plants were used, which were subjected to different doses of IBA (0, 5000, 10000 mg/L). A completely randomized design was used, evaluating the longest root length, number of primary roots, root mass weight, root dry weight, stem weight and stem length. The data were analyzed using the software R version 4.1.2, showing the not existence of significant differences between the treatments. It is concluded that treatment 1, constituted by 0 mg/L of IBA, is the best, since a better response was evidenced in relation to the greater root length, number of primary roots and root mass weight, in the same way. for weight and stem length of H. undatus "pitahaya". Therefore, for its propagation the use of indole butyric acid is not essential.

Effects of indole butyric acid and coconut liquid endosperm on rooting of Crateva adansonii stem

Indole butyric acid (IBA) and coconut liquid endosperm (CLE), two rooting agents, were tested in three concentrations to see how they affected the rooting of Crateva adansonii DC stem cuttings. 300 mg/L, 200 mg/L, and 100 mg/L (IBA) of rooting material and 100%, 80%, and 60% of CLE were the concentrations that were assessed. This was done in three replications using completely randomized design (CRD). The setup, which lasted six months, was on exhibit in the Botanic Garden at the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. While control stem cuttings took the longest to start and finish bud break on the stem cuttings, higher concentrations of the rooting chemical substances, 300 mg/L IBA and 100 percent CLE respectively, influenced the shortest times (initial and final). The results showed that the control had the fewest buds that sprouted into leaves, whereas 300 mg/L IBA and 100 percent CLE had the highest percentage of buds that turned into leaves on the stem cuttings. Regardless of the treatment concentrations utilized, a thin callus formed on the stem cuttings. Observations on rooting revealed that not all callused stem cuttings subsequently took root. IBA and CLE were applied to stem cuttings in various concentrations, and the results were seedlings with lateral and feeding roots. The maximum percentage of rooting response was seen in stem cuttings treated with 300 mg/L IBA and 100 percent CLE, respectively, while the control did not root. The findings of measuring the aerial and sub aerial growth characteristics of seedlings revealed that 300 mg/L IBA and 100 percent CLE had a greater impact on the development of higher values of the growth parameters examined than cuttings treated with lower concentrations of the two rooting agents. Based on the findings of this study, it is possible to draw the conclusion that C. adansonii can be multiplied vegetatively by using rooting agents to help stem cuttings take root. It is recommended that more research be done using rooting medium with a higher concentration and rooting agents like auxins at different concentrations.

Effect of Indole Butyric Acid and Zinc Sulphate in Different Media on Rooting of Olive Cuttings

Olive (Olea europaea L.) is an oil fruit crop with the physiological potential to survive and produce in rain-fed areas. In Pakistan, it is grown in upper Punjab and Baluchistan due to their climate suitability for better production. Due to the increasing trend of olive oil, peoples show more interest in planting disease-free plants for better oil production. The successful nursery of olives mainly depends on growth substrates with rooting hormones like Indole butyric acid. A recent study was conducted to observe the influence of growing substrate and combination of IBA with zinc sulphate during the vegetative stage of two cultivars of olive. Semi-hardwood olive cuttings were treated with indole butyric acid (IBA) at a level of 3000 ppm with zinc sulphate at 2000 ppm and 3000 ppm and cultured on various types of soil in pots under plastic tunnel conditions under completely randomized design with three factors and each treatment replicated thrice. Both varieties with all treatments significantly affect all traits. The maximum number of shoots were recorded in the media that contain sugarcane press mud with 3000ppm IBA and 3000ppm zinc sulphate that showed the maximum number of shoots (5. 66), branches (6. 66), shoot length (17. 01), number of roots (5. 33), root diameter (0. 23), plant survival percentage (73. 66) and root length (16. 86). In contrast, the minimum number of shoots (1. 0), branches (1. 00), shoot length (3. 77), number of roots (1. 00) root diameter (0. 01), plant survival percentage (44. 33), root length (4. 92) were observed in control media in cultivar Ottobrattica with the treatment of IBA at 3000 ppm+ zinc sulphate 2000 ppm. Results from all treatments revealed a favorable correlation between medium and IBA when combined with zinc sulphate for all measured growth parameters. The 50% sugarcane press mud, 50% silt soil with IBA 3000 ppm+ zinc sulphate 2000 ppm proved to be the best approach for better germination of olive cuttings in pots. The resulting outcomes play a significant role in the better germination percentage under dry climatic conditions. Analysis of variance was used to examine the data obtained (Statistix 8.1). The least significant test (LSD) was used to compare significant means at a 5% probability level.

Vegetative propagation of bird’s-foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.) using different rooting agents

Objective: To evaluate the growth dynamics based on the dry matter production of Lotus corniculatus L. variety 202700 and its morphological composition.
 Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was carried out in the glass greenhouses of the Colegio de Postgraduados in Montecillo, Texcoco, Edo. Mexico, from December 2020 to May 2021. The effect of indole butyric acid (IBA) growth promoter in solid presentation Radix 1500 and liquid Radix T 3000 (S+ESolid and S+ELiquid) and a control (Substrate) was evaluated., a completely randomized design with three replicates was used, each with twenty pots as replicates. 1300 pots were planted, of which 20 of each treatment were taken monthly (30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 days) for subsequent data recording.
 Results: S+ESolid was the one that presented the highest values ​​followed by S+ELiquid and Witness (S) respectively.
 Study Limitations/Implications: Destructive sampling of less than 30 days or greater than 150 days was not considered.
 Findings/Conclusions: The plants with the application of 1500 ppm of IBA registered the greatest response in terms of variables: number of leaves, number of stems, leaves (g), stems (g), roots (g), root height (cm), root volume (cm3), greenness index, leaf area (cm2 /g) and plant height (cm), with respect to the rest of the treatments.

Indolebutyric acid and light quality in the rooting of african mahogany minicuttings

The vegetative propagation of african mahogany allows the formation of more uniform seedlings, at a lower cost and with greater productive potential. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of indolebutyric acid (iba) and light quality on the rooting of african mahogany minicuttings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, using an experimental design in randomized blocks, in a 3x4 factorial scheme and 4 replications, totaling 48 experimental units. The treatments consisted of light supplementation (period between 7 and 9 p.m.), with 2 luminous spectra (white and red), one control (kept in the dark) and 4 concentrations of iba (absence, 1500, 3000 and 4500 mg l-1). Each experimental unit consisted of 8 minicuttings, and the experiment was conducted for 80 days. The combination of iba (4500 mg l-1) and light supplementation in the red spectrum yields a greater root system growth of african mahogany minicuttings.

Effect of different concentrations of indole butyric acid, putrescine and hydrogen peroxide on stem cuttings of the rootstock GF677(Prunus amygdalus × Prunus persica) according to the cutting season

The rootstock GF677 is an interspecific hybrid with an important economic and horticultural value. In this research, the effect of indole butyric acid (IBA) in combination with putrescine (Put) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on rooting of GF677 semi-hardwood stem cuttings in three cutting seasons (July, March and October) was investigated. Treatments as IBA (0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 mg L-1), Put (0, 800, 1600 and 3200 mg L-1) and H2O2 (1.5, 3 and 6% w/v) were included. The results showed that in July cuttings, the highest levels of callogenesis were observed in IBA treated cuttings in both concentrations of 1000 and 2000 mg L-1. The rooting was very low in July cuttings, while the highest percentage of rooting (14%) was observed in the combination of 2000 mg L-1 IBA+ 3% H2O2. In March, the cuttings treated by 1000 mg L-1 IBA+800 mg L-1 Put and 1000 mg L-1 IBA+1600 mg L-1 Put revealed the highest percentages of callus formation 83.31 and 83.33%, respectively. In these cuttings, the highest percentage of rooting (63.88%) was gained at 2000 mg L-1 IBA+3200 mg L-1 Put. The application of 1000 mg L-1 IBA+800 mg L-1 Put increased root fresh weight. In cuttings prepared in October, only 800 mg L-1 Put caused callus formation in more than 55% of the cuttings. The rooting of cuttings at this time was as low as the July cuttings, whereas the highest rooting percentage was observed in cuttings treated with IBA at a concentration of 1000 mg L-1. Overall, the experiment showed that the season of the cutting and the treatments with IBA+Put or H2O2 could improve rooting properties of the rootstock GF677.

Exogenous Application Effect of Indole 3-Butyric Acid and Myo-inositol on Improving Growth, Productivity and Bulb Quality of Garlic

Two successive field trials were performed at the Agricultural Research Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Suez Canal University during the two successive of 2018/2019 and 2019/2020. to investigate the influence of 0, 0.5 and 1 mM of indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) and 0, 1, 1.5 and 2 mM myo-inositol (MI) and their interactive as folair application on vegetative growth, bulb yield, biochemical constituents and mineral contents of garlic plants cv. Seds 40. The treatments were laid out in a split plot order with three replicates. The obtained results reported that garlic plants positively responded to the exogenous treatments of IBA and MI individually or interactively. It showed generally that application of IBA at 0.5 mM recorded the highest values of vegetative growth, yiled, quality parmemters as well as the mineral content (N, P and K). In the same regard, application of MI at 1.5 and 2 mM significantly promoted moast of studied traits compared to control and the rest of MI concentration, in both growing seasons. Furthermore, the two-factor interaction was found to be significant for all measured traits in both seasons, except for K content. Whereas, exogenous treatment of IBA at 0.5 mM along with exogenous treatment of MI at 1.5 and/or 2 mM resulted in the highest means of most of the above mentioned traits. Thus, it could be suggested that applying a combination of IBA and MI was found to be effective for enhancing vegetative growth, bulb yield and quality as well as macro-elements content.

The study was conducted to find out “Effect of Indole butyric acid (IBA) on cutting on rooting of Ixora” at farm of Horticulture Section, College of Agriculture, Nagpur in 2019-2020. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Completely Randomized Design with fifteen treatments and three replications. The treatments comprised three types of cuttings i.e. Softwood cuttings, Semi hardwood cuttings and Hardwood cuttings and five concentrations of IBA, 0 ppm, 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm, 4000 ppm. The result obtained from the present investigation in respect of root parameters, it was observed that, minimum days to rooting was observed in treatment T13 (hardwood cuttings treated with IBA 2000 ppm). However, maximum number of roots cutting-1, length of main root, survival percentage of rooted cuttings, root volume, fresh weight of roots cutting-1 and dry weight of roots cutting-1was noticed in hardwood cuttings with 2000 ppm IBA.

Effect of indole-butyric acid (IBA) and wounding on rooting ability and vegetative characteristics of apple rootstock cuttings under Nepal conditions

Use of seedling rootstocks is widespread in Jumla and research on the evaluation of clonal rootstocks for propagation has still not started. Study on the concentration of IBA and wounding effect in cuttings is also deficit. Therefore, this investigation was carried out in the Hi-tech Greenhouse of Kalika nursery in Jumla, Nepal from February to July, 2018 to investigate the rooting response of MM111 apple rootstock to wounding (with or without) and various Indole-Butyric Acid (IBA) concentrations (0, 2000, 2500 and 3000 ppm). The experiment was laid out in a factorial Complete Randomized Design by preparing cuttings of 20 cm length and 5 to 10 mm diameter and planting them in rooting media made by mixing perlite, cocopeat, forest soil and vermicompost in 1:1:1:1 ratio after 15 second of quick dip in IBA solution. All the rooting and vegetative parameters were significantly affected by different concentration of IBA solution and wounding. The results revealed minimum number of days to first sprouting (15.50), highest rooting percentage (68.52%), highest number of roots per cutting (23.11), highest length of the longest root (22.83 cm), maximum diameter of main sprout (2.92 mm), maximum number of leaves at 86 DAT(20.06), 93 DAT(22.50) and 100 DAT(30.17) in the cuttings treated with IBA 2000 ppm. Increasing the IBA concentration beyond 2000 ppm produced negative effects. Similarly, wounding resulted in better root and shoot parameters of cuttings than with no wounding. The rooting percentage (57.4%), number of roots per cutting (21.83), length of the longest root (20.96 cm), diameter of the main sprout (2.66 mm) were significantly higher in wounded cuttings which also recorded the lower days for first sprouting. The interaction effect was significant (p<0.01) only on the rooting percentage while all other parameters were non-significant. The results indicated that 2000 ppm IBA with basal wounding perform better than other treatments.

Impact of IBA and bio-inoculants on growth and rhizogenesis in pomegranate (Punica granatum)

The present experiment was conducted to study the effect of Indole butyric acid (IBA) as alone or in combination with synergetic bio-inoculants i.e. Azotobacter, phosphate solubilizing microorganisms (PSM) and Arbuscular Mycorrhizae (AM fungi) on rhizogenesis, vegetative growth parameters, biomass accumulation and nutrient uptake in hardwood cuttings of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.). Fifteen treatments excluding the control (water dipping) treated with IBA and inoculated with bio-inoculants alone or in different combinations were examined. All root and shoot related parameters were significantly improved in the cuttings treated with IBA and inoculated with bio-inoculants treatments. Maximum cuttings survival %, diameter of primary root, fresh and dry root weight, number of primary roots, plant height, number of branches, shoot diameter and shoots fresh weight was observed in cuttings treated with IBA and pre-inoculated with PSM + AM fungi followed by AM fungi + Azotobacter combinations. This study gives the future insight for exogenous applications of IBA with ecofriendly bio-inoculants in improving vegetative growth and increasing the production of healthy plants of horticultural crops under nursery conditions.

This study aimed to evaluate the viability of vegetative propagation by cuttings in the development of rooting and budding of Glyicidium sepium in different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with completely randomized block design and increasing concentrations of IBA 0, 625, 1250, and 3000 mg.L-1 with six replicates. The cuttings were standardized in length and diameter, then treated with sodium hypochlorite and immersed in different concentrations of IBA. The parameters plant evaluated were the sprouts number, sprouts length, sprouts diameter, sprouts dry weight, and roots dry weight. The concentration of IBA was shown to be effective in increasing all parameters studied at the IBA concentration of 2100 mg.L-1 and the higher concentrations did not offer any cost-benefit advantages for the production of gliricidia by cutting.

Effect of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and cane position on rooting of rootstock’s cuttings

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and to evaluate the influence of the part of the cane from which the cuttings were taken on rhizogenesis of rootstocks (1103 Paulsen, SO4, Dogridge) and grapevine cultivar ‘Vidiano’ (Vitis vinifera L.). Three rootstocks (1103 Paulsen, SO4, Dogridge) with five different auxin treatments (control, 60, 120, 250 and 1000 ppm IBA) were examined under hydroponic conditions. A comparative study of rhizogenesis was performed between grapevine cultivar ‘Vidiano’ and the three rootstocks, as well as the part of the cane. The cuttings were collected from the vineyard of the Laboratory of Viticulture of the Agricultural University of Athens. It was shown that, in general, the middle and, secondarily, the base part of the cane give the best results concerning the percentage of kalogenesis, the percentage of rhizogenesis, the average diameter of roots, the average number of roots per cutting, the total surface of roots and the total length of roots. Among the concentrations, 120 and 250 ppm showed a high percentage of rooting for the three rootstocks studied (Dogridge, 1103P, SO4) and the cultivar ‘Vidiano’. The effect of three factors (cultivar, part of cane from which the cuttings were taken, IBA concentration) was evaluated concerning the percentage of kalogenesis, the percentage of rhizogenesis, the average diameter of roots, the average number of roots per cutting, the total surface of roots and the total length of roots. The results showed that controls had the shortest roots and 60 ppm IBA showed a sharp increase at root length probably due to increased rhizogenesis compared to that of the controls. The bases of the cuttings of the three rootstocks gave the longest roots probably due to better nutrition. The highest percentages of rhizogenesis were observed in the base, middle and top cuttings of 1103 Paulsen at the treatment of 250 ppm (95, 80, 80%, respectively), followed by the treatment of 120 ppm of the middle cuttings of the same rootstock (75%). The experiment showed that the cultivar (‘Vidiano’) and the rootstocks (1103 Paulsen, SO4, Dogridge) which rooted easily need smaller concentrations of IBA. The treatment of 1000 ppm IBA gave the lowest rates (kalogenesis, rhizogenesis, root number, root length, root surface, and average root diameter) at all cuttings of ‘Vidiano’ and the rootstocks SO4 and Dogridge.

MINIESTAQUIA DE ERVA-MATE EM QUATRO ÉPOCAS DO ANO

Ilex paraguariensis é uma espécie florestal que apresenta múltiplas potencialidades, sendo utilizada na indústria alimentícia, farmacêutica e cosmética. Contudo, a propagação seminal da espécie é limitada devido à baixa (inferior a 20%) e desuniforme germinação, além do longo período de estratificação das sementes (de quatro a seis meses) necessário para a quebra da dormência embrionária. Diante do potencial uso da miniestaquia como técnica alternativa para superar tais limitações, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito do ácido indolbutírico (IBA) no enraizamento de miniestacas de erva-mate coletadas nas quatro épocas do ano (de julho/2014 a maio/2015). As miniestacas foram confeccionadas com 6 cm (± 1 cm) de comprimento e duas folhas reduzidas à metade e, a porção basal dos propágulos foi imersa durante 10 segundos em diferentes soluções hidroalcoólicas de ácido indolbutírico (0, 2000, 4000, 6000 e 8000 mg L-1). Após 90 dias da permanência do material vegetal em casa de vegetação climatizada, foram avaliados: porcentagem de enraizamento, número de raízes e comprimento médio das três maiores raízes/miniestaca, porcentagem de calogênese, retenção foliar, brotações desenvolvidas e mortalidade. A primavera foi a época mais promissora, proporcionando aproximadamente 70% de enraizamento e, aliada à aplicação de 8000 mg L-1 de IBA, as miniestacas atingiram o maior comprimento (4,3 cm) e número de raízes (9,1) bem como, a menor taxa de calogênese (0%). A coleta das miniestacas na primavera e a aplicação de 8000 mg L-1 de IBA é a mais indicada para miniestaquia de erva-mate.

Auxin and Sodium Nitroprusside Effects on Wheat Antioxidants in Salinity

The effect of indole butyric acid (IBA) as auxin hormone and sodium nitroprusside (SNP) on total antioxidant, carotenoid, total phenolic compounds, catalase activity and shoot dry weight in wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Chamran) under 50 and 100 mM NaCl as salt stress were studied. These two experiments were done separately and in a completely randomized design, in three replications. Indole butyric acid in three levels and sodium nitroprusside in one level were used as spray on the plant to compare their effects. According to the results, the amount of carotenoid, total phenolic compounds, antioxidants and catalase activity have increased but shoot dry weight have decreased by either salinity alone and/or combined with IBA and SNP in our experiments, comparison to the control but with different level. None of the carotenoid, total phenolic compounds, antioxidants, catalase activity and shoot dry weight showed significant changes when indole butyric acid or sodium nitroprusside treatment were induced alone that shows their nontoxicity for seedlings. In connection with indole butyric acid or sodium nitroprusside treatment, these compounds appears to alleviate the stress conditions by showing significant decreasing of carotenoid, total phenolic compounds, antioxidants and catalase activity and significant increasing of shoot dry weight. Our results showed that IBA and SNP had the same effects in salt stress, so in salt stress conditions it is recommended to use IBA for crop and non-crop plants and SNP for only not edible plants.

Effect of Indole 3-butyric acid (IBA), rooting media and their interaction on different rooting and growth characteristic of air-layers in guava (Psidium guajava L. cv. L-49)

The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of different concentrations of Indole 3-butyric acid (0, 2000, 4000, 8000 and 10000 ppm), different types of rooting media (i.e. sphagnum moss, coco peat, vermicompost, sphagnum moss + coco peat and sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost) and the interaction of these in different combinations on rooting and growth characteristic of guava, cv. L-49. The results revealed that the exogenous application of Indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) 8000 ppm with media combination of sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost (I3M5) significantly increased the root characters i.e. success percent of air-layers (83.3 %), callus formation (23.7), number of primary roots (24.21) and secondary roots (32.57); and growth characters i.e. number of leaves (48.17), branches (7.92) and sprouts (8.48) and survival percentages (83.18) over the other treatments and control. Among the rooting media, the combination of sphagnum moss + coco peat + vermicompost (M5) produced the highest rooting percentage (71.27), root characters and growth characters during months of July and August.
