Dear editor, The potential of virtual reality in health1,2 is an exciting topic of discussion in the Journal of Public Health. We intend to highlight smoking behavior in the global community and relate it to virtual reality. Generally, we support research on the harmful effects of substances contained in cigarettes, whether filtered cigarettes3–5 or electronic cigarettes6–8, that could endanger the body. According to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) report in 2021, the percentage of adult smokers worldwide is trending downward. However, due to the increasing global population, the actual number of adult smokers is still on the rise. In 2020, it was estimated that there were around 1.1 billion adult smokers worldwide. Although this number has decreased from the previous year, it is still huge. Additionally, according to the WHO, the use of e-cigarettes among adolescents is continuing to increase and has become a serious global public health issue.
