Analysis of the Effect of Government Spending and PDRB on Human Development Index in Districts/Cities of Bengkulu Province

HDI, or Human Development Index, is a measure used to assess the level of human quality development in a country. The purpose of this research is to see the effect of government expenditure on education and health as well as GRDP on the level of HDI in the Regency/City of Bengkulu Province. The analysis method in this study uses panel data regression and uses Stata/MP 14.0 software. Panel data covering 10 regencies/cities in Bengkulu Province for a period of 7 years, namely 2015-2021. The results of the research conducted have a significant influence between health expenditure, and GRDP on HDI in the Regency/City of Bengkulu Province. However, education expenditure does not have a significant effect on HDI in the Regency/City of Bengkulu Province. Through health expenditure and GRDP, it is hoped that it can improve the quality of life of people in Bengkulu Province.

Effect of Government Expenditure on Human Capital Index in Nigeria

The study examined the effect of government expenditure on human capital index in Nigeria. Government expenditure on administration, economic services, and social community services were the independent variables of the study, while human capital index was the dependent variable. The specific objectives were structured as follows: To ascertain the effect of government expenditure on administration on human capital index in Nigeria; to examine the effect of government expenditure on economic services on human capital index in Nigeria; and to investigate the effect of government expenditure on social community services on human capital index in Nigeria. The study adopted an ex-post-facto research design, covering the period between 2001 and 2021. Multiple regression technique was used for the data analysis. In line with the specific objectives of the study, it was revealed that Government expenditure on administration has a significant negative effect on human development index in Nigeria with a p-value of 0.0444 and t-statistics of -2.194267; Government expenditure on economic services has a non-significant positive effect on human development index of Nigeria with p-value of 0.3785 and t-statistics of 0.907474 and Government expenditure on social community services has a significant positive effect on human development index of Nigeria with p-value of 0.0403 and t-statistics of 2.245271. This implies that among the explanatory variables x-rayed, Government expenditure on administration and social community services are the major determinants of human development index in Nigeria. The study recommended therefore that the government should strive to block all the financial loopholes available to corrupt public officers and also ensure that any official caught perpetuating corruption should be prosecuted by relevant agencies. The government should increase the budgetary allocations made for agriculture, construction, transportation, communication. These expenditures increase human development in Nigeria. The government should ensure they increase the funds allocated to education, health, electricity and other social and community services. Such expenditures have proven to affect human development positively and significantly.

Government expenditure, informality, and economic growth: Evidence from Eastern and Southern African countries

AbstractThis study investigates the dynamic linkages among government expenditure, informality, and economic growth in 15 Eastern and Southern African countries over a 25‐year period during 1991–2015. The analysis exploits panel vector autoregressive models to construct the time path of one variable following an orthogonal shock to another variable using impulse response functions. The analysis is complemented by panel quantile regressions to investigate the potential role of informality in the expenditure–economic growth nexus. The findings are threefold. First, both government consumption and investment expenditure have positive and significant effects on real per capita GDP. Second, informality has a direct negative impact on real per capita GDP. Third, the informal sector dampens the impact of government expenditure on real per capita GDP. These results are robust to the inclusion of selected control variables and are unchanged across GDP quantiles. The study's findings suggest that government policies aimed at reducing informality can have direct impacts on economic growth and indirect impacts through improvements in the effectiveness of government expenditure.

The Effect of Government Expenditure in Education, Health and Social Assistance Spending on the Poverty Rate of Yogyakarta Special Region Province

This study has the final results to determine the relationship between government spending in education, health and social assistance spending on poverty rates in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This secondary data-based research has the form of a time series in 2012-2021, then the method used is multiple linear regression analysis with the OLS (Ordinary Least Squares) method. The results showed that programs on education implemented by the government of the Special Region of Yogyakarta through variable government spending in education were right on target and able to reduce poverty. but, variable government spending on health has not been able to reduce poverty and social assistance spending will increase poverty due to the effects of government dependence.

The Effect of Government Expenditure on Education, Health and Road Infrastructure Sector on Human Development Index in Kabupaten Sidoarjo

Human development in East Java continues to grow, one of which is Kabupaten Sidoarjo. The Kabupaten Sidoarjo Human Development Index (HDI) in 2021 is ranked 4th in East Java. The Human Development Index in Kabupaten Sidoarjo has experienced a good increase every year. With this increase, a study was conducted that aims to determine and analyze the effect of government spending in the education, health and infrastructure sectors on the human development index in Kabupaten Sidoarjo. This research was conducted in Kabupaten Sidoarjo by collecting and processing periodic human development index data from 2011-2022 (12 years). The approach is done using descriptive quantitative. For data analysis methods using classical assumption tests, regression analysis and hypothesis testing. From the results obtained that government spending in the education and health sectors has a significant effect and a positive relationship while the infrastructure sector has no significant and positive effect on the value of HDI in Kabupaten Sidoarjo in 2011-2022.

The Effect of Government Expenditure on Nigerian Economic Growth: 1987 - 2017

The paper sought to know effect of Government Expenditure on Nigeria Economic Growth from 1981 – 2017. The study used secondary data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and adopted the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) Regression Analysis technique for analysis. The results from the analysis show that there is a positive correlation between Inflation, Money Supply, Government Consumption and Expenditure. Time Series data used in the model includes those on gross domestic Product (GDP} and other different structures of government. The Results indicate that government expenditure has a significant effect on economic growth, though the significance is a form of dependent. i.e. the form of government expenditure considered. Also, capital and recurrent expenditure have significant effect on economic growth but in varying degrees and extent. Finally, it was found out that capital expenditure would have exert positive impact on the level of economic growth but for the issue of corruption and institutional oddity in Nigeria though the intended capital expenditure is indirectly converted to recurrent expenditure somehow which has its own effect on the Economic growth.

The Effects of Government Expenditure on the Output: A Real Business Cycle Analysis for the Romanian Economy

Abstract One of the most researched topics in macroeconomics is the development and implementation of Real Business Cycle models. This article presents a small Real Business Cycle model, which is built for the Romanian economy, with data from the 2nd quarter of 1995 through the 3rd quarter of 2022. The main aim of this analysis is to assess the historical influence of exogenous and government spending shocks on economic growth. In order to obtain accurate results, we implemented a Bayesian estimation technique for calculating the parameters of the model. The main findings indicate the significant exogenous shocks effect on the Romanian economy, and the way in which government spending had a positive effect on increasing economic growth for the period between the 1st quarter 2000 and the 3rd quarter of 2022.

Effects of Government Expenditure on the Poverty Level: A Nonlinear ARDL Approach

The argument on the behaviour of government expenditure toward reducing the poverty level is still controversial among economists and policymakers. This study investigates the role of government development expenditure in alleviating poverty in Malaysia. The study employs a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) model from 1970 to 2019 using annual time series data. The bounds test of the NARDL specification suggests the presence of cointegration among the variables, namely the poverty level, development expenditure, gross domestic product per capita, inflation rate, physical capital and human capital. The empirical findings demonstrate that an increase in development expenditure is an insignificant determinant of poverty, but the reductions in development expenditure significantly eradicate the poverty level in the long run. For robustness checks, the share of development expenditure on gross domestic product is used in the estimation. The findings show that all development expenditure has little to no impact on lowering poverty levels over the long and short runs. The Malaysian government should therefore consider how crucial it is to allocate public funds effectively and make sure that the emphasis on spreading development gains across all economic sectors must have an influence on the poverty level.

The Effect of Government Expenditure on Economic Growth in South Sulawesi

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of balancing funds on the economic growth of regencies/cities in South Sulawesi Province as measured by the GRDP value. This study specifically analyzes general allocation funds, special allocation funds, and profit-sharing funds, which are considered to have an impact on regional economic growth. The data analysis method used is the Vector Eros Correction Model (VECM) panel, which involves carrying out a stationary test or unit root test, a correlation test, and a Granger causality test. This analysis was carried out with reference to the South Sulawesi Province APBD data for 2019–2021. The results of this study indicate that general allocation funds and special allocation funds do not have a significant effect on economic growth, while profit-sharing funds have a significant effect on the economic growth of districts/cities in South Sulawesi Province.

Effect of Government Expenditure and Value Added Tax on Economic Growth in Nigeria

The study seeks to examine the relationship between government expenditure and VAT on economic growth of Nigeria. Both the exploratory and ex-post facto designs were adopted in this study. The study population consist of 28 years period given the number of years the data was collected. Using a consensus sampling method, the 28 years are used as sample size. The study used the ordinary least square regression technique, specifically the Vector Autoregressive model for testing the hypotheses stated. The first findings revealed that, government expenditure has a positive insignificant effect on gross domestic product of Nigeria While, the second hypotheses tested revealed that, value added tax has a positive significant effect on gross domestic product of Nigeria. As a result, it is recommended that, government expenditure has not translated to the needed improvement in gross domestic product of Nigeria. This might be as a result of misappropriation of funds and corruption or the political will to supervise expenditure on development items. It is recommended that government to set in place financial discipline measures that regulates payment for contracts and other expenditure such that these funds allocated for development to spur GDP will be utilized. The government should either maintain the current VAT rates or increase the VAT rates. But they should ensure that social amenities are made available to cushion the effect of VAT increase for revenue generation purposes.

The Effect of Government Expenditure on Sectoral Performance In Malawi

The relationship between government expenditure and economic growth has always been debated among scholars. While the Keynesian school of thought postulates a positive causal relationship, the Neo-classical school argues that the relationship is negative. A rather neutral view is associated with the Ricardian school, which postulates that the relationship is non-existent. Recently, the Malawi Government launched its long-term development plan for the country, the Malawi 2063. As has been the tradition with all the other policies that Malawi has been implementing, the agriculture, education, and health sectors have been highly prioritized in terms of public resource allocations. However, the performance response of these sectors to the increased government expenditure has not been established. Using data from 2002 to 2020, we employed the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) technique to estimate this effect. We find a significantly positive relationship between government expenditure and the growth rates of the three sectors. Holding all other factors constant, a K1 billion increase in the Government’s total expenditure to each of the three sectors heads to a 0.24 percentage point increase in sectoral growth. Moreover, this effect is markedly higher for development expenditure (0.34 percentage points) than for recurrent expenditure (O.26 percentage points). The results point to the need for the government to continue allocating more resources to the three sectors, especially for capital investment rather than consumption expenditure. There is also a need to control inflation and encourage measures that curb corruption as the two retard the growth of the three sectors. The Effect of Government Expenditure on the Level of Poverty in the People's Republic of North Sumatra Province in 2010-2021

Poverty has become a common problem to hear about, but it is also a problem point that has not been resolved until today's progress. The purpose of this study is to find out how the influence of government spending on poverty levels in the province of North Sumatra. The data used for this research is secondary data. The data collection technique is through observation from North Sumatra bps data https://sumut.bps.go.id/. The research technique used in this research is path analysis. The results of the research using SPSS 25 data show that North Sumatra provincial government spending from 2010-2021 has a significant but negative effect on the poverty level of the people of North Sumatra province.

This study aims to find out: 1.) To find out if there is an influence between Local Original Income and Government Expenditure on Kerinci Regency Spending in 2011-2020. 2.) To find out how much influence between Local Original Income and Government Expenditure on Kerinci District Revenue and Spending Budget 2011-2020. 3.) To find out which factors have the most influence between Local Original Income and Government Expenditure on the Kerinci District Revenue and Spending Budget in 2011-2020.The data collected in this study in the form of secondary data, namely data on Regional Original Income, Government Expenditure and Kerinci District Revenue and Spending Budget from 2010 to 2019. The data analysis tool used is Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. There is a significant influence on the Regional Original Lumsing Budget and Kerinci Regency Spending in 2010-2019. This can be proven by thitung ? ttabel (2,290) ? (2,365) with a significant increase of 0.056 > 0.05. There is a significant influence on the regional revenue and spending budget. This can be proven by thitung ? ttabel (9,202) ? (2,365) with a significant rate of 0.000 < 0.05. There is a significant influence between Local Original Income and Government Expenditure on the Kerinci District Revenue and Spending Budget in 2010-2019. This can be proven by the calculated F value of 604,200 ? F table 4.737 or the significance value of 0.000 ? 0.05. Large Influence of Local Original Income and Government Expenditure on Kerinci District Revenue and Spending Budget in 2010-2019. The effect of Regional Original Income (X1) on the Regional Revenue and Spending Budget (Y) was partially 19.24%. The effect of Government Expenditure (X2) on the Regional Revenue and Spending Budget (Y) is partially 80.16%. The effect of Local Original Income (X1) and Government Expenditure (X2) simultaneously on the Regional Revenue and Spending Budget (Y) is 99.4% and the remaining 0.6% is influenced by other factors outside of this study

Effect of Government Agricultural Expenditure on Economic Growth: Evidence from a Developing Country

Abstract Fiscal policy has been used by various governments to promote economic growth. The effectiveness of government expenditure on economic growth depends on recipient sector of government expenditure. This study contributes to this research area by investigating the effect of government agricultural expenditure on economic growth in the Kingdom of Lesotho. The government of Lesotho identified the agricultural sector as a productive sector that is central to the achievement the economic growth goal and development plan. Descriptive statistics and inferential econometric techniques (ARDL, DOLS and VEC Granger causality) over time-series data for the period 1982-2019 were utilized in this study. The results suggest that while current level and pattern of government agriculture expenditure cannot stimulate the desired economic growth and prosperity in the country, domestic investment appear to be a stimulant of the desired economic prosperity. Consequently, any economic growth policy or strategy that is premised on government agricultural sector expenditure would fail. Thus study recommends that countries including Lesotho should prioritize sustained increase in domestic investment.

To see whether government spending has reduced inequality, we analyse data from Sri Lanka. We find that public expenditure is ineffective for the policy objective; instead, it increases inequality.

Fiscal multipliers, expectations and learning in a macroeconomic agent‐based model

AbstractThis paper evaluates the government expenditure multiplier and the influence of agents' expectations and consumption choices thereupon in a pre‐existing estimated macroeconomic agent‐based model. If the simple consumption heuristic of the baseline model is replaced by inter‐temporal optimization subject to a budget constraint based on agents' estimations of future income, the multiplier becomes significantly smaller. When agents' beliefs about the effects of expenditure shocks are explicitly introduced, they can strongly increase or decrease the multiplier. If agents are allowed learn about the effects of government expenditure on their income from repeated shocks, they are able to correctly predict these effects.

Determinants of Wealth Accumulation: Time Series Evidence from Pakistan

Wealth sustainability has always remained a policy concern for policymakers in developing economies like Pakistan. This study has filled the gap by investigating weak sustainability and determinants of wealth accumulation for 46 years, from 1972 to 2017, in Pakistan. Wealth sustainability has been analyzed through the Genuine Savings (GS) Index.Moreover, the auto-regressive distributive lag (ARDL) model has been applied to find out the effects of wealth determining factors ̶ which include Government expenditure, real gross domestic product (GDP),real money market rate, life expectancy, and real money supply ̶ over wealth accumulation. Results of the GS estimate imply that during the reporting period, the economy is sustainable, and ARDL results show that the effects of government expenditure, real gross domestic product(GDP), and life expectancy on wealth accumulation are significant and positive in the long run, the effect of interest rate is positive but insignificant.
